Very impressed with my first visit to Mojo! The food was amazing and the service was awesome. Love the sauces. Everything was very delicious. The Onion rings were the best I have ever had and were also very huge. The ribs were very tender and didn't even need any BBQ sauce because the dry rub was that tasty. The brisket and pulled pork were very delicious as well. The mac n cheese is very cheesy rich n creamy. I will Definitely be coming back to Mojo for more of their great BBQ. This is possibly now my favorite BBQ spot. You wont be disappointed choosing this place.
Review Source:Excellent bbq in the middle of a touristy area and wasn't expecting it! Â Get the Kansas City burnt ends as an appetizer. It's phenomenal. Â Pulled pork and brisket are excellent. I got the sweet potato mash which was great and the beans which were eh. Tried the Mac n cheese which was also okay.
Review Source:Good BBQ. Â Good Mac N Cheese. Â Sit outside. Â Drink good beer. Â I had the Sloppy Mojo and it was not what I expected but it was delicous. Â They put 5 different BBQ sauce on your table to use on your food. Indoor and outdoor seating. Â On Cordova Street across from Tolomato cemetery.
Review Source:Service was an A+. Friendly & helpful & professional. I don't find that often in Florida, just sayin. Great food. The portion was so big I could have shared it easily. Instead I ate it all because it was so delicious. Their special sauces are lined up on the table and tried them all with pulled pork. Yum. Excellent beer selection. I liked the cavernous building--we sat on the bar side and got a window that looked over an old native American graveyard. . it was noisy, but a fun place to eat.
Review Source:Excellent brisket, decent smoked chicken, awesome mac & cheese, average cole slaw. Adds up to a very tasty lunch.
The brisket was served dry, which is good. I added a small amount of their 'Mojo' BBQ sauce. It seemed the most balanced, with a little spiciness. The chicken seemed to be at its best without sauce. I'm usually not big on the chicken at most BBQ places, preferring brisket, ribs or pulled pork. Mojo's is decent, as I said, so BBQ chicken lovers might very well rave about it. But the brisket was top notch.
Very good service. The patio, although today was warm and muggy, is the place to be, I think. Kinda chilly inside.
I'm not a BBQ expert or anything but... I know what tastes good and THIS IS IT! Plus, the location is clean, huge and we enjoyed very pleasant and unhurried service in air conditioned comfort!
Air conditioning and great BBQ in the same place? A rare combination indeed!
The nearly-fall-off-the-bone ribs were almost as good as fantastic pecan smoked ribs we've had in Texas. Being a close second to those is number one in the BBQ wasteland we all affectionately know as "Florida".
Our sides were quite tasty too. The Mac and Cheese had a nice mustard (?) flavor to kick it up a notch. The greens were not spicy or too vinegary so they were perfect for me. The beans were sweet and safe. No risks here.
Finally, the burnt ends appetizer were totally the best thing since they invented... well... since they invented burnt ends! Yum!
So, my trip to Mojo started out a little rough - the hubs and I were on our way to the restaurant and I called to confirm the address (I'm not from St. Augustine). The staff member that answered the phone could barely hear me over the shouting of customers in the background (quite a turn off). We arrived and the wait to sit inside (DO NOT SIT INSIDE) was only 10 minutes, which, isn't bad for a Saturday night. After we got sat and we were in the midst of all of the shouting of the other patrons, I immediately wanted to leave. The hubs was hungry and he wanted BBQ so that's the only reason why we stayed (lol). Our first waitress was actually quite rude about it when we commented on the noise level - which prompted my hubs to check with the hostess about sitting outside. He was told that it would be an additional 35 minute wait, until another hostess said, "what about the back patio"? We relocated drinks and all to the back patio where there were only a few other diners, it was much nicer, and the servers were even better in the back.
Our server Lauranda immediately came over and was ready to offer suggestions on her favorites and to take our order. I ordered the two meat plate (another diner stated that the portion sizes were huge, but, it was actually just right), for my meats I chose the pulled pork shoulder and the smoked turkey. There was a nice helping of pork and only two slices of turkey (so, I was sorta bummed). The handcut fries were delicious but the mac 'n' chz is by far the BEST that I have ever had. It was creamy and melted in my mouth (oh my GOD!)
The hubs ordered the two meat plate also with the pulled pork shoulder and the smoked chicken. I had a tiny bite of his chicken which was smoked to perfection and had a great dry rub on the skin. Yum.
Another favorite for me - the selection of sauces and that the meat didn't arrive drenched in sauce like you'll find at other bbq joints. Mojo sauce, sweet, chipolte, and mustard were all delicious - but, for my pork, I chose the mojo and the sweet mixed together, the perfect combination.
Note to diners - if you park in the parking lot behind the back patio, there is a good chance that your vehicle will be towed (there is signage on the back patio indicating that as well). While we were dining, quite a few people were scouring the parking lot for their vehicles, only to find out that a few minutes prior, it was towed away.
Amazing Food!! We were looking for something different for dinner one night found a menu for this place at the B&B we were staying at. The food was really good, if you like some heat in BBQ the I would definitely recommend you try the Sloppy Mojo sand which it brings the heat and still has a great BBQ flavor.
Review Source:We were visiting St Augustine and planned on spending most of our day on St George Street. As we left the parking garage and walked towards the old part of the city, all we could smell was some amazing BBQ. After we were done walking around, everybody was in agreement that Mojo was where we were going for dinner. We had a large party and they sat us promptly. We got an assortment of dishes. One I would recommend is the Whole Hawg. Although it is said to feed three people, it is more likely that four or five people could share this dish. The pulled pork shoulder was my favorite but everything was good.
All in all, this was probably one of the best BBQ restaurants I have ever been to. Definitely a required stop going forward anytime I visit the St Augustine.
If you're looking for some true upscale good priced BBQ dining, this is the place to go.... The inside is huge and they even have two outside patios for anyone who'd like to enjoy the lovely weather. The pulled pork quesadilla is mouth watering.. and if you aren't feeling BBQ that night please try their Mahi Mahi ... its one of my top 5 favorites!
At night this place transforms into a nightlife bar scene. Come here and hear live bands and enjoy their special cocktails! Also what kept me here was their late night menu ;)
My son and I were in St Augustine on a school trip, but we got to have lunch wherever we wanted near the fort. Since we could smell the delicious BBQ as we passed by, we had to check out the menu and give it a try.
The shrimp appetizer and buttermilk-battered onion rings were among the best we've ever had, and their chipolte BBQ sauce was beyond delicious. We both had pork BBQ - mine was North Carolina-style and among the best I've had. Their smoked corn side is delicious and not too buttery. Such fresh ingredients, we're planning to come back next time we're anywhere near north Florida.
They have a great local draft beer selection.  Their fried pickles were great.  I ordered the two meat combo (brisket and NC pulled pork).  The brisket was nice and  moist.  It had the perfect flavor of beef and smoke. The NC had was really good, it had the perfect amount of vinegar.  I did not need any sauce for my meat.  My sides were also delicious.  I had Mac and cheese with smoked sweet corn.
Review Source:This was my favorite BBQ in Florida so far.
For anyone from Orlando, you know we have Four Rivers thing going on. I won't lie.. I do it too. It's local, its good, its filling and southern. But if this were in Orlando, Thats it... this would be my thing.
You mean to tell me I can order meat as an app? This is acceptable? I speak of the Burnt ends of course. OHHH, everything I've wanted from Burnt ends ever, right there, in that bowl.. to my mouth. 4Rivers burnt ends absolutely can't compare. Mojo was juicy, favor busting, burnt fattiness. I had found Nirvana.
Its been months now, but I did get the chicken sandwich as the burnt ends made me feel guilty, and while the chicken was good, it was just that. The Mac and chess though, that was some real good mac.
The area is awesome, as it is right across the street from an old cemetery. Walk there from your hotel, sit on the patio, have a good mixed drink ( I enjoyed the sangria) and take in St. Augustine's yard of bodies and salty air.
We went here bc we could smell the deliciousness outside.
My boyfriend got the NC pulled pork w the beans and Mac and cheese. I got the BBQ shrimp w the Mac and cheese and potatoes w out gravy. We thought everything was amazing.
They even had sauce at your table. I lied the sweet BBQ which was on my shrimp and I mixed the chipotle in there too. He mixed the sweet and mojo on his pork. If we lived here this would be a reg spot because it is affordable when there are lots of overpriced places in the area!
Went here today for lunch and enjoyed myself again. Got the Carolina style pork with fries and the garlic grits and enjoyed it. The pork was surprisingly tender and tasty. The only somewhat issue was that it was chopped a bit too fine for me and it threw off the texture just a bit. The fries were great, nice and hot with great seasoning. It's a nice place and the service was again top notch.
Review Source:Really cute place on Cordova with wonderful Chipotle barbecue sauce!!! Â I had the turkey sandwich and a side of green beans and just didn't eat the bread. Â The turkey was very good and the green beans had lots of flavor. Â My husband had the turkey lunch with green beans and corn and enjoyed his also.
Review Source:This has become our favorite lunchtime BBQ place at the office. Â The food is excellent, and the service is top notch.
The portions at lunch are reasonable, and I've never been able to completely finish my lunch! Â So there's always extra.
We try to hit Mojo's at least twice a month if not more.
Rolling Rock for 2 bucks? Yep. That's a tip if I've ever heard of one.
I really liked this place. It's in the heart of Old Town St. Augustine. I've seen a few other reviews that seem to think that they know the "most" about BBQ, but as I try different places it is my opinion that there is more than just one right way. I smoke at home and of course I'm going to tell you that my ribs are some of the best ever, that's correct. Let's not kid ourselves into thinking that this is a super difficult art from that only certain people can do correctly. That's just not true. This is one of the oldest forms of cooking and so there are going to be many variations by now. It's only logical to think that.
I digress.
I got the Carolina Pork and the Brisket. I like the pork the best and I soaked it down with their vinegar sauce. See, this is the type of BBQ that I grew up on. My parents are from Va. so eating BBQ with a tinge of vinegar sauce was the only acceptable way to do it. I found Mojo's to be quite pleasing and the little cup of slaw that they gave me to put on top was a fantastic and un expected garnish to my plate. The brisket was ok, not my favorite because to be truthful it was a touch on the tough side but I would like to try it again because I really liked the flavor. Brisket is hard to do. I was very happy that unlike a place that I was just at a few weeks ago, Mojo's brisket was not dripping with grease. All of the sauces were good with the original Mojo sauce being my least favorite. (Sorry guys...I just liked the others better.) My dirty rice was pretty darn good and the pit beans tasted slow cooked and delicious. I love baked beans and I thought that these were right on par for some of my favorites.
We had a great waitress and cheap beer. Yep. I think we'll be back.
After being seated for lunch, I first thought we might be in BBQ trouble with all the sauces on table (seemed a bit gimmicky), but boy was I wrong. Â We ordered the burnt ends as an appetizer. Â The vinegar sauce, the mustard sauce, the mojo sauce, the chipotle sauce, and the sweet sauce... SO MUCH DELICIOUS SAUCE! Â And plenty of mixing and matching going on.
From there, we decided to split a lunch plate since we weren't that hungry. Â
The server (Tim) was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and super friendly. Â He even explained what the history of "Cheerwine" was for me before I ordered it (it's amazingly delicious). Â He also had the kitchen split our lunch for us onto two plates, and there was enough food here for a meal to take home! Â Great portion sizes. Â
Three important words: Â North Carolina Pork! Â OMG. Â I've never had pulled pork this tender and tasty before. Â I love that it was so finely shredded and served with a fine slaw for mixing into it (our server's suggestion)! Â The sweet potato mash and mac n' cheese were also to die for! Â
I'm not usually a fan of smoked BBQ, but this place seriously blew me away. Â Wish there was one in Miami. Â We'd eat there often. Â SO DAMN GOOD.
Mojo BBQ was one of the best meals we had in St. Augustine as far as portion, flavor, and value go. While we were on our short getaway we found most places to be overpriced for the food they served.
Mojo is open late, even on Sunday, which is a plus because we were worried we would have to order a pizza for dinner. We did a ghost walk and asked our guide for some late night dinner recommendations. He pointed us in the way of Mojo. We were happy to discover they had a pretty large late night menu. We split a pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, and we couldn't resist the chicken nachos after seeing the table next to ours.
The food came out super quick. The pork was good, but a little bit on the dry side. They do offer about 5 sauces that I assume are made in house. The mojo was my favorite, but all of them were good with a unique flavor. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy with slightly overcooked noodles, but I can forgive that. The nachos were delicious, loaded with toppings. Have you ever run out of chips for nachos? There was so much cheese, chicken, and other toppings that there weren't enough chips to put it on, but that is better than being left with a plate full of toppingless chips.
Service was decent. I think our server was the only one left and he had a few tables all over the restaurant.
Overall would be a great stop for lunch, dinner, or late night. Just a block from St. George it is in a convenient location and so much better than the average tourist trap.
Great setting, fantastic outdoor seating. Beer selection is good. Chicken was a little tough, but the girlfriend had a brisket salad that she loved. John the waiter took care of us, he was fantastic, especially after connecting over all living in New Mexico before. Â Good spot for BBQ, will be back and try something else.
Review Source:Excellent BBQ. Â We stopped here briefly, while on a walking ghost tour, to make a pit stop for our bladder challenged little girls. The smells were intoxicating, but there was no time to indulge. The next day, after visiting the local fort, we made time for Mojo.
Living in Orlando, we have our fair share of BBQ, both good, and bad, with 4Rivers being the gold standard. Let me tell you, that Mojo stacks very well against anything Jon Rivers puts out, up here in Orlando. The dry ribs are nothing short of fantastic (the ONLY criticism would be, that they don't remove the fibrous membrane opposite the meat side of the slab. Why do some folks leave that on, to get dry and papery?). Â
The Carolina Pork is juicy and vinegary. Delicious! Â I thought the Mac N Cheese was excellent. Â As was their slaw. The dirty rice was the only disappointment. It lacked spice and enough seasoning to make it memorable. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mojo to the most discerning BBQ aficionados.
We spent the day in St Augustine and at lunch found ourselves drawn to Mojo. Â It has a bar area, a large dinning room, and good sized patio. Â They have a bunch of craft beers on tap and the menu has lots of options (especially for the sides). Â I ordered a two meat plate with brisket and pulled pork, comes with texas toast and 2 side orders. Â The pork was spot on and the brisket was good but slightly dry. Â Sauces are on the table and in 5 varieties. Â Mojo, Mustard, Vinegar, Sweet, and Chipotle. Â For my two sides I had the mac and cheese and fried green tomatoes(upgrade). Â They are rather generous with the sides. Â
I guess my over all opinion is that Mojo does bbq that is flexible to please most everybody. Â With a variety of sides, meats, and sauces you can concoct what you want. Â Its a great idea for a destination like St Augustine, and I would go back for the over all experience, Not for a pristine example of any single regional bbq.
Yes sir, the reviews don't lie about Mojo's... this place is THE place for good BBQ in the oldest city. Sonny's and Bono's are okay, but certainly not slap your momma type BBQ that you expect to find in the South. Mojo's delivers on all accounts, son.
I have yet to go past this place and not see it packed, so when the wife and I walked up, we noticed the outdoor patio slammed with patrons, however when we walked in, there were plenty of open seats at the bar and tables inside (must have been the 60 degree December weather people were enjoying). We sat at the bar and the bartender introduced himself, shaking our hands, and welcoming us to Mojo's. Nice.
Loved the atmosphere and decor here. Kinda old west, kinda oldest city, but wide open and comfortable. Plenty of room both inside and out to grab seats and grub down.
The liquor selection is impressive, but I'm always drawn to draft beer, and the selection here wasn't as varied, but very cool to see they stocked local beers on tap. I settled for a red ale, the wife a light lager. Very delicious.
We were going to rock out on a couple of appetizers, but wisely decided to just go for the main meal. I got a two meat BBQ combo, the wife a smoked turkey sandwich. and we split a side of mac-n-cheese. We were pleasantly surprised to be served about 7 minutes later, and given a tray of BBQ sauces.
I got the ribs and beef brisket (after a long, brutal decision making process of what I wanted). Holy sh*t, Yelpers, excuse my language, but these ribs are something delivered from the hand of God. Cooked perfect, fall off the bone perfect. The beef brisket was juicy and tender, and they were paired perfectly with the Chipotle and Sweet sauces. Baked beans were delicious, as was the corn. Texas Toast was golden. Mac-n-cheeze was pretty good, not the best, but I'm here for the BBQ. The wife LOVED her sandwich. It was a few pounds of turkey served up on a nice crispy bun. She hates BBQ, but she loves Mojo's.
Great BBQ served with great local beer, coupled with great service at the bar. I loved my trip here to Mojo's. I've had it recommended to me multiple times, and I have now recommended it to all my family and friends, and of course to my Yelp buddies. Can be a bit expensive- but this place is definitely recommended for those looking for great BBQ in St. Augustine, especially if you're spending the day downtown. Will be back. A LOT.
We were in St. Augustine over the weekend and everyone always looks to me to pick a place to eat. After passing by Mojo's on their opening night last summer, I knew I wanted to check this place out. I certainly wasn't disappointed. It was a fairly busy night at British Night Watch, but the service was good. No complaints with service, decor, etc. I'll preface my review of the food by saying I'm very picky about bbq. After smoking meat, making my own rubs and sauces, as well as sides for the last few years, there are few bbq joints that will impress me.
The burnt ends were amazing. A traditional burnt end is really just the bark and should be crispy. Mojo's burnt ends are less traditional, with less crispy bark and a good chunk of the pork attached. Very moist and nice flavor, though a little light on the smoke. I could have easily made a meal out of these though.
The pulled pork was a kinda long and stringy, so that was a little different. Tender, decent flavor and quite good, but was a little tame for my tastes. A little more smoke or heavier family would bump it up a tad, imo. A really good bbq sauce would have been helpful as well. I have to say, the sauces were awful. All of the sauces were very heavy in the vinegar, which is not common for the sauce. A little variety would have been helpful. The sweet was the most palatable, while the other 4 were just horrid.
The fries were pretty good, worth getting. The mac n cheese was rich and creamy and probably the best I've ever had from a bbq joint. The next side is something that should be a good go-to side for every great bbq. The baked beans lacked a lot of flavor and what flavor was there was a little...off. They just weren't good at all.
I'll definitely be back.
Flew up to St. Augustine with the gf for the day and got a little hungry...we were going to hit up Collage around the corner because it got good reviews on here but holy dick was it expensive! Â So we went a little cheaper and came out happy.
Not the world's best BBQ, but not bad by any means. Â Good pulled pork, good house BBQ sauce, good homemade fries, good dirty rice (a little dry though).
They had lame plates that kind of reminded me of going to Old Country Buffet or something. Â Also it was REALLY LOUD inside, probably the loudest place I have been to in recent memory...not that it was incredibly full, maybe just from bad acoustics or something.
Anyway, if you're in St. Augustine and in the mood for some decent BBQ, give it a shot.
Another star in the Mojo family. Â Glad you've finally arrived!
This is, by far, the largest of the various Mojo locations. Â Menu is pretty much the same as Mojo #4. Â Full bar service.
It's in the historic district, about 2 blocks from "the fort," so parking may be an issue. Â There is a lot beside the building which can accommodate 7 or 8 vehicles, one space is a handicapped space. Â You might consider parking at the garage about a block away.
I had a Mojo Mary with my dinner tonight (even though it was the "wrong" time of day for this drink) and it was amazing. Â Could really taste the bacon in the vodka, and the smoked salt on the rim and okra garnish complimented the drink nicely.
Your choice of dining indoors, front patio, or back patio. Â I believe they allow smoking at the back patio.
As with the other locations, lots of cool art; most of it by Nicklos.
They are planning to add live music, so keep an eye out for that!
