I couldn't have been more excited to see two of my top favorite bands play here on Saturday; Opeth and Katatonia. They played a great set and the sound was great which is why I was generous enough to put one star; however everything else about this place was a disaster.
First of all, isn't there a max capacity for venues? This place is cramped as it is but seriously there must be a hazard as to how jam packed a place should be. I made the mistake of leaving the balcony, because I couldn't see a thing thanks to the 2 ginormous poles in the way of the stage. Plus, you can't see a thing from the balcony in the first place unless you are one of the fortunate 20 people right in the front. i go downstairs and it took me a good 25 minutes to go from the stairs to the bar because the place was packed and I mean hazardous packed, just to see that there were people by the bar texting and looking bored. Why? Because they could see a thing on stage. Unless you are at the very front, good luck trying to enjoy your favorite bands play. Most sold-out venues I've been to have a slope on the floor so that shorter people like myself are able to enjoy the view. When I was lucky enough to catch a peek I only discovered that even the bands looked stiff on that tiny cramped stage. I don't even want to get into how disgusting the women's bathrooms are.
So unfortunate for this place. I just found out that 3 more of my favorite bands will be playing here soon and I want no part of it, unless of course they get real about their maximum capacity and they reconstruct this to actually look like a music venue rather than an old rundown nightclub. It sucks because these are bands that I really want to see but the memory of this venue has haunted me out of it.

    Let me get this straight:

You want to go to a microscopic venue in the B.F.E., IL that has one miniscule, narrow entrance/exit (the owners of E2 would approve), a stage built by and for the residents of Munchkinland, a sound crew from Yoko Ono's camp, and a women's restroom from the set of The Toxic Avenger? (Ladies - BRING YOUR OWN TOILET PAPER AND GO TO THE BATHROOM EARLY!)

Then Mojoes is definitely the place where you want to be.

Due to overselling the Sevendust/Coal Chamber show to the rhythmically retarded demographic of the Midwest, I spent the majority of the night in someone's very sweaty armpit (thankfully, he was very courteous) and fending off extras from the cast of Deliverance who couldn't understand why I wasn't there to see Sevendust (I went for Lacuna Coil) because the lead singer is black so that MUST mean that I'm there to see him. Hello, Veiled Racism. It's been almost 2 hours since we last spoke. How I've missed you!

Then there was the moshing. Look, I have nothing against moshing as long as you (1) respect the Rules of the Pit; and (2) respect the rules of the venue. Every few feet, Mojoes has signs spelled out in Comic Sans *shudder* font:

    NO MOSHING
    No stage diving
    No crowd surfing

Guess who obviously can't read? Yep. And guess who wasn't enforcing those rules? Yep. Security did an excellent job of escorting out the knuckle-draggers who were stupid enough to start fights with them, and this happened on at least 3 occasions, but they did nothing about the giant mosh pit that started in my section, and I was in a corner, stage left. Rule of the Pit No. 1: KEEP IT TO THE CENTER AND FRONT! I learned this at age 15; the dillhole who started moshing in our corner was at least 25. We're not all intellectuals, ladies and gentlemen.

On the single positive note that I want to make about Mojoes, I would like to give a shout-out to the bartenders last night. You guys were on the busy as hell and managed to get me my drinks very fast. You're the reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars.

My closing remarks: Coal Chamber performed a song entitled "F**k This Place". That is all.

Management here is a JOKE.  Went to a show last night, and I watched a band play from upstairs, and throughout the show I noticed a couple people had slipped on the staircase below the balcony I was standing above (about 10 stairs.)  After the show I went to go downstairs, and my foot slipped on the first step, and I totally wiped out halfway down the staircase that was SOAKING WET for some reason (probably beer.)  About 4-5 patrons came to help me up, and I was in tears because my spine hit so hard going down.

When I got to my feet, I told a security guy was happened, and he directed me to notify the owner at the ticket booth.  I located the guy (whatever is name is, the redhead guy who rides a scooter around the joint), pretty mad because I was in pain, and told him what happened and how they need to get some cones or CAUTION signs up before someone else got hurt.  He basically shrugged and said it happens sometimes, that they USED to have rubber pads on the stairs but they came off.

So, 10-15 minutes later, the next band starts playing, and there are still no cones or signs on the stairs.  I went back to Mr. Scooter, screaming pissed and still in pain, asking him why no measures were taken to warn patrons of danger, and he told me that he doesn't need to be lectured on how to run his building.  SO irresponsible and unprofessional.  My back and elbow are bruised, and I'm hoping I won't be in pain too much longer due to building negligence.  Never going back to that stupid place.

Where do I begin with my horrendous experience?
I went to The Tenderloins ( Impractical Jokers) comedy show at the early 5:30 showing.
Mojoes severely overbooked.  It was supposed to be a 250 capacity show but they didn't have seats for about 1/4 of the audience.  Dozens of people were standing on the main floor, at least a dozen on the stairs, and sooo many people were standing upstairs in the balcony area.  What a shame since this was a $30+ show.

So many poles in the building that ruined the view.

    Bathrooms were god awful.

They usually do a meet and great but since they booked the Tenderloins for two shows they barely got to see everyone and didn't get a chance to sign signatures.  This was so upsetting since it cost $30 dollars and the other shows they have done before in iowa/new york were around $20.

The security was completely rude and yelled a lot for no reason.  Completely unorganized by MoJoes.

    Would not recommend going here.

Not a great venue for comedy.

This might be an OK venue for concerts, but not for comedy shows.  For the comedy show my friend and I saw, there were more tickets sold than they have chairs, for $30 a ticket, I expected the place to be laid out like a typical comedy club with tables and chairs, but it was set up with just rows of cheap folding chairs downstairs and bar stools upstairs.  There was also lounge style seating upstairs, but there was no way to see the stage from those.  If they only have so many chairs they should sell tickets for the chairs at a higher price and general admission tickets for a lower price to those people who don't care about standing.  Being able to sit there should not be based on who is willing to stand outside in the freezing cold the longest.

I did not use the restroom there, but my friend did and according to her the toilets were either too gross to use or had no toilet paper, this was about half an hour after they opened, so attention to detail does not seem to be a big priority for them.

Also, the website says their hours are 4pm-2am on Saturdays, which is confusing for people who haven't been there before, since it leads you to believe there are separate areas - one main part that opens at 4 and the event area that opens at 5.

An encounter with 2 of the owners proved they don't really care about making their customers happy.  while they eventually were sort of accommodating to our issue, they each tried to pass us off onto the other.  As owners, I would hope they would not just be concerned about making money but making sure their paying customers are happy. I hope they know happy customers come back, unhappy ones write reviews on yelp.

Horrible. Went to Mojoe's last night to see the Impractical Jokers do their stand up routine. It was a horrible experience, and Mojoe's is 99% to blame (the show wasn't that funny either.. but that's not really relevant).

First off, we got there at 7 because doors were to open at 7:15. We arrive to a line wrapped around the block. My first thought was "this place better be huge, because this is a LOT of people". We stood in the freezing temperatures until 7:15 passed.... then 7:30.... then 7:45.... OK NOW I'M FREEZING. A bunch of meatheads in security t shirts wandered around aimlessly looking confused the entire time, they were useless. We finally got in around 8.  But the nightmare was just beginning!

We got inside and saw that every seat (cheap fold out chairs) on the main floor was already taken, as were the upstairs stools. Which meant our options were to stand on the stairs or off to a corner of the stage or sit on couches in the back of the upstairs area, where you couldn't see the stage at all. We decided to stand to the side of the stage, behind a giant pole. Luckily we found some extra fold out chairs in a pile, so we were at least able to sit behind the pole eventually.

Drinks were not really an option as the line at the bar was miles long and a waitress never came around to us or any of the people around us. That's ok though, I didn't want to waste any more of my money at this pit anyway.

Half of the show was based around videos, which we couldn't see from our awesome spot behind the pole. I'm guessing at least 40% of the people there couldn't see the screen. And yes, there was only one screen.

The bathrooms were disgusting and this was at the start of the show, can't imagine what they were like towards the end of the night. No TP, nothing to dry your hands on. The stall was so small, the door touched my knees as I sat on the toilet, and I'm 5 feet tall.

Seriously the worst venue I've attended, and I've been to shows in pretty nasty places. Some tips..
    - DO NOT OVERSELL YOUR SHOWS.
    - DEVISE A BETTER SYSTEM FOR GETTING PEOPLE IN FASTER
    - BUY SOME MORE SCREENS SO THAT PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY SEE WHAT'S GOING ON IF THEY ARE IN AN UNFORTUNATE SPOT
    - HIRE A BATHROOM ATTENDENT
    - MORE WAITRESSES
    - SERIOUSLY, DON'T OVERSELL YOUR SHOWS

So, it's the beginning of November and I just froze my arse off waiting in an around-the-block line to see Eve6 and Everclear. Gahh.

Free parking in the garage is a plus, though on a Saturday night was also pretty packed.  Even with my Groupon instruction that they'd have my ticket at "Will Call" at the door, the guy couldn't find my name on the list even with my ID.  Thank GOD I had printed out my Groupon.  So, don;t count on them to be able to get their List right, and be sure to cover your own arse.

$4 beers weren't too bad.  If you can choke down PBR, it's a better value. :)  2 (at the beginning of the night) to 3 (towards the end) bartenders also didn't suffice, and if you stood at the ends of the bar you were regularly ignored.

They ran out of TP in the Ladies restroom EARLY - about 1/3 into the night.  Out of desperation, ladies were passing around paper towels (the scratchy brown kind). One disposable hand soap dispenser wasn't enough.

In all, the show + cheap price justified some of the aggravations, but I wouldn't go running back.

Went to Mojoe's to see Otep and Butcher Babies and it was a pretty great venue.  No matter where you are in the place you get decent sound and a good view of the stage. The bathroom was surprisingly clean (not something I am used to seeing at concerts) and the staff there, minus the guy at the front door, was nice and fast at serving drinks.  My only real complaint is that it is in Joliet

Great place to see a show.   We came for the Sevendust show on 7/17.   The sound and stage setup was great.   The crowd is interesting!?  (well it is joliet).   The location is not ideal for me....way to far as I live right next to Chicago.

As others have stated the entry way is a little crowded.  People are coming in and out of the same doorway(1 door?).    The balcony around the stage looks like a good idea.  I tried to get vip tickets for this show but could not find a way to get them.  Mojoes website could be better at this.   Maybe I'm just not VIP enough to get those seats.  But anyways, we found a great spot on the floor to watch the show,  meet some local joliet girls and drink.     Add that to an EPIC show by SEVENDUST and you've got yourself an awesome night.

oh,  A girl came around handing out free tickets to the FILTER show coming up.  i had to ask her..."The real filter?  The "hey man nice shot filter?",  She said yes.

I'm not sure if this is legit or not but we will be there for the filter show.  If this pans out Mojoes will get a complete 5 stars from me.   Its all about the atmosphere people.

I have been here for a few metal shows, and I love that its so close to home. Lots of parking available (2 parking garages that I can see and no charge) Does not make me miss Chicago venues at all.

The only things Mojoes needs to work on is getting customers inside. The line moves too slow getting in. The first time I was here they had one girl taking tickets and selling tickets. Took me an hour to get inside after the doors were open.

They have improved on this, and its quicker. The other thing that is weird is selling alcohol upstairs at the bars. The bottom bars sell nothing but NA stuff.

Not sure if this is for certain shows?

The sound here is great. Any spot inside is a great view. Security guys are not D-bags.

I am looking forward to Mojoes bringing in more acts that I follow!

After receiving a disappointing email from the Mojoes establishment in response to my "abrasive" reviews. I realize I have hurt their feelings.

I'll edit my previous review to say the following:
Over my entire life of attending live concerts, every venue I have been to in Tampa, Orlando, New Orleans, Winter Haven, Lakeland and Chicago, Mojoes is by far my least favorite so far. If they change their ways, i will change my review.

The good thing about Mojoe's is that every time they close and move to a new location, something usually gets upgraded. Their most recent move to Joliet had me curious to check out because  now they have a bar, which means one thing...beer. Thank God, the balcony/bar area is great if you are checking out a show and you want to get away from all the younger kids. Hopefully this one sticks around for a while, the venue is nice (trendy for being located in Joliet), but  then again you have the Casino right down the street, so I guess you need to keep it classy.

I go for Friday nights in the red room... DJ Sonryze is the resident DJ and host... There are other DJ's that jump on occasionally which are all friends/family of mine. I love this place for that fact. $3 Looong Islands and Blue MF'ers...The music is straight Chicago underground hip hop/ old school/ new cool. I caught a show put on by SIC a Slipknot cover band and the sound was sweet! Come hang out get a drink and strike up a convo if you can hear. It's not a Northside packed to the gills with college kids or junior associates... just artists and drinkers. ;) One thing before I go... mop every now and then will ya?

I was here last Sunday to see Alex Goot, Luke Conard, and some other YouTube superstars. I was seriously nervous about coming here because of the poor ratings other Yelpers have given this place. But in all honesty, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting --which, was kind of good.

Online, it has said the show as starting at 6:30 and we were running late so I was afraid that we were going to have to wait in a long line to get inside. When we arrived, there were a few people in line, but we got in without a problem. The downstairs, depending on what type of show you're there to see, is mainly for those who are under 21 or don't drink. Upstairs is the only bar that was open. Beer was surprisingly cheap. I was expecting to spend quite a bit more after hearing of others' complaints. But a Corona and an MGD (bottles) were $9!! Pretty good, considering we live in Chicago where alcohol prices seem to fluctuate along with the prices of gas.

The only complaint that I have is how the upstairs is laid out. Since we were not allowed to bring our drinks downstairs, we spent the entire show upstairs. Unfortunately, there isn't much room for everyone to hangout along the balcony to see. But it was okay for us because we got there early enough to grab a spot.

My boyfriend's only complaint was that he had to pay $1 extra because he bought our tickets online.

But all in all, I had a blast --even got to meet Luke Conrad :) If you don't know who he is, check him out on YouTube. His music is awesome and he makes some cool videos.

Oh, and a helpful tip: There's barely any parking on the street, so just park in the parking garage which is located on the left just a block or so before you run into Mojoes!

They seriously need to fix their entry issues.  For a venue this size, there should never be a line around the block after doors have opened.  They need to get people in quicker.

Drinks are a bit expensive.  I suppose you have to pay the bands somehow - but a beer costing the same amount as a mixed drink is just wrong.  Could be a bartender error - but still?

That being said, It's not a bad place to see a show.  The place is a lot cleaner than most places in the greater area and is starting to book top talent.  I'll give it another try.

Fix the entry issues, get a bit more reasonable on drinks and your grade goes way up!

This place isn't officially open but I can't wait until it is.  4 bars, really cool decor, tons of space, and a bitchin' sound system for live music.  My only complaint would be that it's in Joliet, but I'll make that drive.  Check it out and see what a lounge and music venue SHOULD be like!
