Molly's has great staff, food, drinks, live music and regulars. My favorite bar in San Clemente!

This is my rest stop when I'm travelling from San Diego to Los Angeles. The drinks are always strong and cheap. Friendly staff and good  vibes. Much better bar than the Tavern place next door. I've had the Sheppard's Pie and the Mahi Mahi sandwich over and both did not disappoint.

Truly an awesome rest stop for those lookign for a beer to take the edge off from the traffic.

We didn't think this place was a dive at all, despite previous reviews. It's pretty big and sectioned off half bar half restaurant. There is an outdoor patio out front. A few large TV's for sports. Our waitress was very nice despite other reviews.

I got corned beef and cabbage and really enjoyed it. Hubby got Fish & Chips, he said he wouldn't order it again but it was alright.

Great food!! I had the fish and chips and it was awesome. Service was a little slow and beer was way overpriced but if you want a good meal, this place is great!

This place was just a few doors down from where we were staying so we decided to check it out.
We were pleasantly surprised by the filet minion - fried shrip - cheddar and bacon mashed potato - plate.  My wife actually said that the shrimp were "perfect" which is saying something coming from an Asian.

I had the corned beef and hash which was pretty good - not amazing but certainly not bad.

The jukebox had a bunch of free credits on it, a hundred football games on all the TV's, a super cool rockabilly girl server..... a solid 4 star pub!

Last bar hop spot for the night, since it was near our hotel. Thought nothing of it since it was quite outside and inside, but it turned into a fun night. The bartenders were really cool and fun to talk to, the guests around the bar were also the same. With the exception of the rude bitchy young girls, you know the ones who judge everyone for no reason. Yeah tried to talk crap to me but when confronted quickly shut their mouths. We stayed till closing getting drunk here and making friends. Had a nice selection of beers and even got everyone hooked one jameson and pickle juice shots.

Stopped in while on vacation on the way back from Oceanside to Los Angeles. The atmosphere is pretty much what I expect from an American "Irish" Pub. Kinda dark, nothing fancy.  The food was very good, especially the shepard's pie. The boxty was also very good. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. . Even though it says it's not good for kids I had no problem bringing my 10 year old niece and 14 year old friend's daughter into the restaurant. If I ever make it back to San Clemente I will definitely go back

Great beer! However they need more/better Irish dishes on their menu.

Dark and dingy, but they had good corned beef and the people who worked there we're nice. The customers seemed like retired couples. Not too many young people. They had the sports going on so I stayed and had a meal.

My favorite Irish bar, 4++. Mind you, it is a Irish bar: boxty with the lightest potato pancake I've ever tasted, yummy shepherd's pie, meatloaf, fish and chips.  Broad range of brews. Friendly service, warm feeling, esp after redecorating. Comedy night and music can be pretty cool. If you order nachos at an Irish bar, don't complain!

This is a dive but the people that go there haven't noticed. The crowd seems to be the best thing about this place. I'd recommend going here for the fun and the booze..... just DO NOT ORDER FOOD - well, not the nachos anyway (see below under Cons)!

    Pros:
    - Service is Ok
    - Local atmosphere
    - Great to hang out with friends

    Cons:
    - Last time we went, we ordered the nachos. I asked the waiter how they were prepared. The description was quite a stretch. I guess certain details do matter - Velveeta in my book does not equal cheese. A couple of pieces of wilted tomato also don't equal salsa.... and the chicken shouldn't taste like fish. In fact, there was a distinct fish smell that slowly permeated the area where we were sitting. Fortunately the place filled up with a great crowd soon so you forgot about the smell.

This is a great Irish bar even if you're not Irish.  Excellent priced drinks, great looking women.  I loooove the Chicken noodle soup because it is totally and completely unlike any chicken noodle soup I've ever tasted.  It is filled with tons of chicken, veggies, noodles, spices and the chef prepares it for a king.  All their food is above any other bar food.  It is delicious.  I go out of my way to eat there.  Check it out.  And also, on Wednesday nights they have a hilarious comedy show, Free.  I can't believe how good the comics are...and the show is free!!!  Check it out or you are missing out.

Jeff the bartender is the man. Great place, great drinks, great times. My wife and I stopped here driving home to LA from San Diego.... needless to say, what would've been a five minute pit-stop turned into us sitting at the bar, getting drunk with Jeff and enjoying the AMAZING shepherds pie. We will definitely be coming back.

And seriously, tip Jeff extra. The guy is cool and he deserves it.

Great place, and the owner is a stand-up guy. It's always on my list of stops when I'm in the area. Wish I had come by more when I lived near by.

Went on a Thursday night, around 6:30pm.  Wasn't too busy.  Service was good.  Pretty attentive wait staff.  The food was okay... we ordered 1) corned beef and cabbage, and 2) bangers, beans and mash.  Both dishes tasted good, but the mashed potatoes and baked beans were borderline cold... I think maybe the dish sat waiting while the corned beef cooked or something.  Also, there were only two "bangers," which was a little disappointing since it was a main entree.

Still, all of the food was good and I would definitely give this place another shot.

I absolutely love Molly's, especially for their comedy night on Wednesdays (two item minimum, but otherwise free admission).

The food is good, I don't think I've ever ordered anything there I did not like.  I cannot really say much for the service as I have been coming there for years, so my opinion may be biased based off the fact that I am a regular.

If you want a good local Irish pub, I recommend Molly's.

Had the BEST fish and chips I've ever had outside the UK.  Not sure about the other reviewer's experiences but a few in our party had the same and had the same opinion.  Definitely a must visit when we head down to San Onofre again!

Service at the bar was great as ever. Wings were great. Nice "light" lunch.

Well folks,  this place is need of Chef Ramsay for it's food. We had fish and chips and chicken and mushroom boxey.  The chicken and mushroom boxey was good, yet nothing to brag about. The fish and chips was not up to par. The chips were substandard and the fish was not terrible, but was flaky and had some bones in it.  Not yummy!

The interior is GREAT!  The bathrooms are clean and newly redone.
The furniture and over all interior is clean and well fashioned.

The service is great! Very friendly staff.

I will be back for drinks and appetizers and perhaps "Shepard's Pie" ( hard to screw that up). Coleslaw is wonderful!  The harp beer is fresh and cold, unlike many other bars.

There needs to be a regular "Irish" folk song band at least twice a month  playing at this pub. I would certainly go there for that type of band.  The spirit of the "Dubliners" could make this place a favorite  for many.

Mollys is a chill place, I didn't have a bad  experience there. Its a bit too crowded.  I had a bunch of White Russians--they were great.  I was bummed being part Irish, I was hoping for a more "Irish feel" to the place but not so much...especially when they were playing reggae music...But it was still fun and I ended up dancing anyways ; ) Also the bouncers are so chill helped us get a cab home even, tho I lived like 5 mins away--Soo worth it--not worth getting a DUI--Ive heard the messed up stories.

This has got to be the best bar that has ever opened in SC.  I just love the vibe this place gives off.  And the owners and bartenders are awesome, always friendly.  The cocktail waitresses are not always so friendly, but I like the place nonetheless. The food is really good pub food.
Fish and chips - So good!  You can not go wrong with ordering these!  They have great taste and the batter is perfect.  The fries are just okay, but I don't order it for the fries!  The bangers and mash is a fun one too!  And the Irish breakfast is my favorite! Good food, great spirits, and awesome prices, you really can't go to wrong here.  The weekends do tend to get a bit crowded, so beware!  There are always cops around too, so be sure there is a sober driver!  They also host comedy nights which are worth a check out...from what I hear.

Irish pubs are a tough call, it all depends on what you are looking for in an Irish pub experience. This one is pretty authentic to pubs in Ireland. We have eaten lunches & dinners here & have not been disappointed. The food is good, they have all the right booze & the publican has always been friendly with us. I always have a good time & a good meal here. A huge plus is they have the LeperKhanz play here.

Molly's is still consistent as ever. Went to dinner and drinks here on Saturday night, and had a pleasant time. Everyone ordered something different, and everything was really good. The bartender recommended the Shepard's Pie and the Boxty (which is a huge plate with everything). My husband got the Shepard's pie and said it was extremely filling and really good. Two of our friends got the corn beef and hash and the other the boxty. I stuck with the hamburger, I'm not a huge fan of corned beef and what not. Service was great. There was no live music this time, so the bar was really empty. Overall, it was a great night out.

In the middle of a four hour 90 mile drive from LA to San Diego, I had major road coma and needed a break, BAD.  We stopped at Molly's because it is right off the highway with easy on off access and as luck had it, they have a nice outdoor patio where my dog could hang while we sat inside nomming and chatting with the nice bartender.  The waitress had just finished work, and while she was chilling outside with a pint, she brought my doggy a bowl of fresh clean water.  LOVES!

We drank some wine, yay! And I tried the Shepherd's Pie fries.  Which is basically Shepherd's Pie ingredients with tons of gravy over fries instead of mash.  It was naughty but pretty delicious.

If I lived anywhere nearby I would swing by on the weekends for music or comedy on a regular basis. This is all that a pub should be. Communal and warm for the locals and friendly and welcoming to passers through. They have definitely won a fan or three.

    3.5 stars

Just got back from this place. It was my first time going here. I had read the other yelpers reviews and was determined to go there with an open mind. I liked the place. It has a nice locals vibe and is mellow and friendly, which I love.

Wednesday IS comedy night and unlike some people I thought comedy night was fun. I laughed a lot. The guys there were there were really funny and I'm kind of embarrassed that I was laughing so hard at time. I was told that sometimes comedy night is lame.

Drinks are cheap and decently strong and service was pretty good. I would go back again.

when I am in san clemente this is where I choose for several reasons:

    1. 1/8th the amount of douche bags compared to oc tavern on a typical night
    2. Drinks are reasonable
    3. Kind of goes with reason 1...good crowd
    4. It Never gets way too crowded where you can't get a drink

    two thumbs up

Pro: the port-a-potty had toilet paper. Con: imagine the biggest bitch ever and that was our waitress.

Service was disgraceful!! We would order from our waitress saying please, thank you, yes ma'am, etc. She never responded! Completely ignored we even existed let alone were trying to communicate with her. We had to flag down people several times to order. My friends never received napkins for their buffalo wings. "The Comedy Night" was super awkward too.

The food was delicious. My Caesar salad came with the most delicious grilled chicken and lots of it!!

ugh.  this kind of place is one reason that explains why i don't want to live in a small monochrome town.  supposedly this is the place where the younger generation hangs out.  the OC Tavern next door looks like a joke.  it's a hard life for the youth out here.

the margarita here tasted like water from a mop bucket.

when i visited, some high school teacher was having her retirement party here. laaaame.

This is an awesome Irish pub that reminds me of my trip to Ireland! We came in here on a quiet Sunday afternoon and there weren't very many people here, so we were nervous at first but decided to give it a shot, and it was a very pleasant surprise. Great service and good food. Some of the best fish and chips I've ever had (tartar sauce might be a little too sweet for some, but I thought it was perfect), the Shepard's pie is huge and delicious, and the corned beef sandwich was good.

I can't give it five stars just because I don't know how it usually is, but this first trip left such a good impression that I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area.

Note: Although our server says the vegetarian curry is the best thing on the menu, she informed us that they do in fact use a chicken based broth, so it's not for strict vegetarians. They've only found out recently that the chef uses the chicken broth base, so I'm not sure if they're going to change the recipe or if they're going to list it on the menu, but otherwise it isn't listed right now.
