The reviews from 2011 and earlier for this place don't do any justice.
Though this place has looked the same, there has been huge improvements, most notably their beer selection. They carry some of the best microbrews that you will find in the greater Burlington area. Their kegs are constantly rotated and you'll find some beers that you won't find in other craftbeer pubs around town.
The bartenders are extremely chill, friendly, and attentive. it's one of those local dive bars with interesting / edgy clientele. If you want to avoid hippies, rich Vermonters from Shelburne/Charlotte, and douchey bros, this is probably the place for you.
I took off one star because their drinks are usually more expensive than some of the craft-beer pubs downtown.
Tip: You can order half sizes of beer
I've always appreciated the Monkey House as not only a great bar (fair prices, good selection, nice atmosphere) but also as a true supporter of the local arts scene. Â There are always different selections of paintings from local artists on display around the bar, and it's one of the few venues in the area that will allow newer/non-mainstream artists (whether they be musicians, comedians, etc.) have stage time to present their work. Â And beyond local shows, because of the Monkey House's collaboration with Angioplasty Media and Burlington Shows, they are able to book a lot of upcoming acts from out of town. Â A great bar, a great music venue & a true asset to the Greater Burlington arts scene!
