Muncles!! A real, deal dive in South Jax Beach. When I think of Monkey's Uncle, I think smoke rings, green carpet, and surprisingly well-executed karaoke. Their food ain't half bad either. With a big, circular, indoor bar and another on the patio, getting a drink is rarely a problem here. The seasoned bartenders make 'em strong too. You can play ring toss, pool, and photo hunt in relative peace from the crowds that usually flock to the central beach bars. Monkey's provides a good party scene on the weekends, but it never loses the divey-ness factor, and you shouldn't expect to come here without rubbing shoulders with grandpas and groms alike. Now, back to the karaoke. People take it SERIOUSLY on Friday on nights. I once saw a girl belting Carrie Underwood at the top of her lungs as her boyfriend looked on in awe, trying to hold back a tear. Geez. You'd think there was a talent scout in the building. Needless to say, this makes for great entertainment. Despite any issues with seediness, Monkey's is a great bar with zero snobbery. Just a good place to grab a drink.

For those folks who read reviews and wonder if they stay relevant after some time, go to Jonathon S's review of Monkey's Uncle, because his experience from 8 of 2011 was the same as ours from last weekend. First of all, this was our second visit to the Uncle, and I will say that both times I went, we had fun. That being said, I will mention that the DJ running the karaoke machine did play more dance music than had people singing. This was rather annoying, because we had come to hear some good and bad singing, not really to watch a bunch of not really funky people trying to get funky. The crowd is pretty mixed in age, which is cool, the waitresses are very attentive, and the drink special for the night  ($2 Heini) just hit the spot. I love the video game/trivia machines that they have on some of the tables. All in all, able to report that this is a decent place to hang out, but don't count on being entertained by karaoke.

I was out with some friends of mine for a big birthday party and we went to Monkey's Uncle because we all like Karaoke and a lot of the people at the party live at the beaches.
The night started off good enough and was fun, but we slowly started realizing that it was going down hill from there.  I was only able to sing ONE song from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. Not because there were so many other people singing, but because some people were requesting dance music.  For most of the remainder of the night the Karakoke DJ played dance music instead of calling people up to sing.
If people want to dance, go to a dance club.  We went here to sing and barely got a chance to.  It was really annoying when he started playing one dance song after another.  He could have at least played one dance song, then call one person up to sing, and keep alternating like that, but he did not.  Not the greatest experience compared to all thre other karaoke bars I've been to.

Monkey's is one of those places you mainly go to people watch. Saturday night karaoke definitely makes for an entertaining night. I can't say I have ever had a bad time here, but I also don't take myself too seriously. It's very casual and drinks are reasonably prices.

There is always something extra to do at Monkey's Uncle!  The whole week has some fun activity scheduled; Bingo, trivia, Karaoke, Beer Pong, pool tournaments....

DJ Austin puts on a great show as well on Saturday and Sunday evenings!!  I haven't eaten the standard bar fare here, but with great drink specials during the week and their 'pour generous' bartenders, who needs food to have a great time here?!!!!

If you are looking for a Great neighborhood bar. Monkey's is IT!  I have been going to Monkey's for 20 years and still don't get tired of it.  It has grown from a small bar to incorporate 3 sections, Main bar, pool table and game bar and then the outside bar.  They also have a liquor store next to the outside bar.

The beer flows, so do the mixed drinks and their wine selection is a little larger than most corner bars.  These bartenders can make anything and more likely than not you will be served new concoctions made up right on the spot.  Just know, if you go on karaoke night or on the weekends, the crowd starts hoppin' and the lines can get deep.  If you are lucky enough to grab a table, the waitresses will keep you swimming in booze as fast as you can drink'em.  This is a bar you can smoke in, so puff away, the filters are pretty good and the ac system stays running.

Monkey's does serve food and it's pretty good.  Lunch and dinner.  They also have an early bird special that a lot of seniors enjoy.  I always got the meatloaf sandwich.  The appetizers are standard fare but cooked well and served hot.  The burgers are thick and there is stuff on the menu the kids will like.  But not after about 8pm depending on the night.

If you are in South Jax Beach, give them a try.  You won't be dissapointed!

Another little out of the way bar I went to for the first time last night. I questioned my friends about attending after hearing the name of this place, but in the end I'm glad I went.

The place is broken up into 3 distinct sections. The first, and main, section has a large rectangular bar which last night had 3 attentive bartenders servicing it. There was a live DJ playing pop/rap music, and a decent crowd in the mid 20s to mid 30s range. To the right of that is another section which is an outdoor seating area that has heaters and a nice size bar. Now to the left of the main area there is another section that is the "game" area of sorts. It has 3 pool tables, electronic darts, and several other arcade games. The pool is $1 a game and coin operated.

Smoking is allowed in this bar which was a plus for me, but maybe not for everyone. The drinks were reasonably priced and made well.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for some place new to mix it up.
