I have now eaten at Mo's in Carmel twice. Â The food is just ok. Â If I am going to spend that kind of money I would much rather go to Ruth's where we have never been disappointed with anything. Â
The service is Mo's is horrible. Â Maybe they are still trying to work the kinks out but both times I have been there it has been pretty bad. Â It took forever for the waiter to come to order our drinks. Â This is not your typical steakhouse where you have professional waiters/waitresses. Â There is a room off to the side where we were seated, we were a table of 10. Â We felt like we weren't even in the restaurant, we were off to the side and it was a weird feeling. Â The restaurant was so loud that I noticed there was a table with 4 older people that were literally holding their ears. Â I felt so bad for them.
The worst part of the evening was when we went to the bar for a drink after dinner. Â It took FOREVER for us to get our drinks. Â While we were waiting we asked the piano player to play a particular song. Â He told us that he already played that song. Â He told us that mgmt told him that he couldn't repeat songs. Â When we told him we thought that was a stupid rule he said he thought there were a lot worse things. Â He was such a jerk that I walked away. Â My friend continued to talk to him about the music and he proceeded to ask her if she was a dancer. Â He was completely condescending and completely rude!!!! Â We did speak to mgmt about him and they told us that there was no such rule about not playing a song twice so, go figure.
That will probably be our last time at Mo's. Â It's a shame.
First visit to this location... First impression - hostesses were dressed inappropriately. I don't mean classy and skimpy... I mean they looked liked they fell out of the Victoria Secret's discount catalog. Boobs falling out, sheer dresses, tight skirts... it was awkward and tacky. I didn't know if we were in a steak house or a strip club. So there's that. (I know, some would like to gawk at babes all night, but I was on a date and there's only so much sleaze I can take during dinner.)
The service was excellent. Good waiters, prompt attention for drink refills and silverware. The ambiance is pretty loud, so be prepared for some noise. I did enjoy the piano, but the tall ceilings and busy restaurant amplified everything.
We started with the shrimp cocktail - nice and spicy sauce, four prawns. Yummy. My date had a salad and it was fine. I had the lobster bisque and had to send it back because it was cold - this was the one real blemish on the evening.
For our entrees, my date had the tuna steak and she said it was very good. I had a nine-oz sirloin and it was OK. This dish also wasn't sizzling hot and the steak was tasty, but not the best I've had.
We decided on the strawberry shortcake for dessert and two coffees - very nice. Nothing outrageous, but nice.
Overall, it was a fine experience, but for the price, I felt they were lacking. Flemings and St. Elmo's are still a better choice.
