I've been a regular at the Mucky Duck for a few years now, as has my girlfriend. Â We live around the corner, and for the Inner Sunset you'll be hard pressed to find a bar with more of a neighborhood feel, awesome bar staff (really, they're some of the best in town), and a great selection of beer on tap. Â
So why am I giving the place only three stars now? Â The latest prices. Â Spend a night drinking here and you'll think you've been drinking in the Marina instead of the humble Inner Sunset. Â A Stella will set you back $5.50, a Bulliet $8, and a Hendrick's & Tonic or a Buffalo Trace a staggering $10. Â Let that sink in for a moment. Â A plain old Hendrick's & tonic (and not even a fancy tonic like Fever-Tree), for the same price as any number of expertly crafted high end cocktails at places like Nopa or the Alembic. Â Hell, it's actually cheaper to drink at the Alembic now as a Hendrick's or Bulleit is $1 less, and a Buffalo Trace is $2 cheaper. Â
It's not that I can't afford it of course, but it's just a bit insulting given the bar and the neighborhood. Â So while my girlfriend and I still come here often, any time we're meeting friends we end up going elsewhere because no one else wants to pay these prices in the Inner Sunset, and I can't say I really blame them. Â I'm hoping things change for the better because lately it seems like more and more of the regulars are complaining about these prices when I hang out here.
