They have an amazing beer selection here and the food has been spot on every time, delicious and plentiful. The mussels are quite good, highly recommended. The burgers and wraps are all tasty but nothing really spectacular. My friends say the fish and chips are excellent. The downstairs has a bit of a dive feel to it so we prefer the upstairs. We will have to try the upstairs patio once summer comes.

This is a bar - take it for what it is. Good beer specials throughout the week and tons on draft from the usual light beers to fruity-girly beers that I like. (UFO Raspberry)

Never had a problem with service and the food has been above average for a bar in Manchester. Good wraps, salads, and sweet potato fries. I don't complain. Recently for two: six draft beers, and two entrees (one wrap and sweet potato friends and one steak tip entree): $44. A steal I'd say and plenty of TVs to watch the Bruins.

This used to be an awesome place to start off or end for drinks for my friends and I . The last time I went there I had by far the most horrible experience. We walked in about 11 and sat down at a table. Instead of the waitresses coming over to assist us they stood around and were joking around with each other and mocking customers. When we were finally greeted by our waitress, Danielle, she seemed extremely short and rude. She took forever to come to our table to take the order and then the drinks took another 20 minutes. It was not like it was super busy she was to busy socializing with her coworkers to pay attention to our table. This whole experience has turned me off from going back here again unless they have a serious change in the waitstaff.

Great place to hang out, have a quality draft beer beyond the standard domestic beers. Beyond pub fair. The California Burger was cooked medium as requested. A good portion of quality bacon :) Avocado spread aka Guacamole, was tasty. If you feel like an pile up of meats on a bun, there is a burger with pulled pork and bacon. :)

The nachos are a entree in itself, really generous portion we had ours with grilled chicken, they were decent, standard tortilla chips nothing unique. Huge portion we couldn't finish.

Smithwicks on draft...hmmmmm

Server was patient and pleasant and made the experience even better. It is PERFECT for eating and hanging out before going to a show at the Verizon center (which is a stones throw across the street).

Their outside deck is a pretty solid choice for a warm weekend day or night of drinking (or dining) . Inside (outback) they have a bar with bands on the weekend. Expect dancing and loud music and good times. The front bar just doesn't do it for me...not sure why, it just seems to be missing something (not sure what).

They have a ton of beers on tap and they know how to make a cocktail.

Also good to watch games as they have a decent amount of TVs

All in all a great place to party with friends.

cant beat $3 shock top drafts. Went on a thursday with a group of five, it was pretty busy but the waitress was kind of slow...I think she had been given our table by a waiter that was leaving. Took forever to get the check. Live 90s music was excellent!

We went to see friend play on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised by the casual atmosphere and the extremely friend bartenders Heather and Becky!! Thanks for the cool, yet un-named drink! ;-) We will be going back!

Murphy's is definitely a great place is you just want to hang out and drink a few beers. Especially when there's a sports game on. This place is definitely a summer/nice weather place, with the outdoor and deck seating with live music. The specials nights are great too. The typical pub food is good, but I wouldn't go there for dinner.

Crappy bar with poor beer selection and a bad sound system.

Murphy's is one of my favorite places mostly for the atmosphere and the drink specials. The only issues I have are with service and food.

The new addition of the deck adds a nice venue to the bar when the weather is nice out or when your in the mood to people watch. Yet, I do feel like Murphy's is turning into a biker bar and it's annoying as hell when these "weekend warriors" in leathers are constantly trying to act like badasses reveing there bikes unnecessarily.

They have a solid line up of entertainment as well that seems to get the crowd moving in the back room or the deck.

The only downside is the service and food. We used to have huge after work get-togethers at Murphy's but since stopped due to poor service and indifferent attitudes. The waitresses are nice, but God Almighty! is the service freaking slow. I've had Thanksgiving dinners that went faster. We usually got an attitude when my boss would ask for the checks and extra silverware. You'll find patrons often looking around wondering where the waitstaff is. It's the kind of service where waitstaff is horrible and still act like they are entitled to a fair or generous tip.

The food has gone downhill as well. The menu and food are lacking the quality that it once had going from pretty good to slightly better than average.

Overall, it a good place to hang with a bunch of friends and have a good time.

Good:
- Fantastic buffalo chicken wrap
- Friendly service
- Cold beer
- Reasonable prices

Bad:
No Van Halen playing on the sound system before the show???? Extremely disappointing.

Back in 08 this was a favorite campaign hangout.

Update: Service has gone way down hill since my initial post 3 years ago. We used to be in the mug club here, but after terrible service time after time we only return if friends insist on going here. Oh and the last few times we had beers in our mugs, there was viable dust on the outside of the mug and floating in the beer when they served it to us because they just grabbed the mugs off the wall without even a little rinse before filling. Gross.

This was one of my favorite bars for a long time. I don't know how soon I will be going back. In my recent visits, I've experienced mediocre food, a terrible menu, and quite frankly the worst service in Manchester.

My friends and I stopped here for a couple of drinks just after 11 PM on the 30th of September, 2011. Two of our friends were from out of town and we wanted to help them experience Manchester. We stopped at the Strange Brew, had a bad experience there before even ordering, and decided that the next best place to stop would be Murphy's Taproom.

We grabbed some brews from the bar inside (to the bartender's credit, I was greeted with a warm smile and quick service each time I approached the bar), and headed out to the second floor of the deck.

The entire time we were there, the server completely ignored our table. We decided to just make trips to the bar inside for the night to get our drinks. Problem solved. No crappy server, great bartender.

We were not sure if smoking was allowed on the second floor of the deck, and so a friend of mine lit up, figuring someone would let him know if it was not acceptable. Within a few minutes, a bouncer came by and explained that smoking was not acceptable on the patio.

No problem. My friend put his cigarette out, and moved outside onto the sidewalk with another friend to continue. When they attempted to get back inside, the bouncer at the door would not let them back in unless they waited in the line again (even though, there was no line when we arrived and it was packed then...and at 12:20 AM when my friends were trying to get back in it had cleared out a bit and now there's a line.)

My friends calmly explained that they already have a tab open and they just stepped out for a smoke because the other bouncer told them they could not smoke on the patio. At this time, the bouncer at the front door explained to them that they should have smoked on the first floor of the patio. Fair enough, but that is not what we were told. He eventually told them that they could either wait in line or get arrested, at which point my friends had to explain to this sad excuse for a bouncer that no one can be arrested for just asking a question or having a conversation.

I could see if my friends were drunk, belligerent jerks, but none of us were drunk. We had maybe consumed two beverages each. Eventually, he finally let them back in.

The crazy part about all of this to me was the attitude the bouncer gave our entire group on our way out. He sarcastically yelled "Have a greeaaat night" or something to that effect, at which point my two friends began a bit of a heated conversation with him. He clearly had some sort of chip on his shoulder.

Being a security guard myself, I understand what it's like, but all of the bouncers at this establishment have radios. It would have been as easy as contacting the other bouncer and confirming that he told them they couldn't be on the patio, and after confirming it, let the CUSTOMERS back in.

This guy does not have the temperament or patience to be at the front door of a bar or club anywhere.

I went there for beer, no food. Great waitstaff, and I loved the outdoor seating and the band was great! The inside seemed a little small though. I guess I'll visit again when it's colder and see how that is.

Murphy's has a great summertime setup with outdoor seating, outdoor bar and even a raised deck. If you go during a busy time you might have to yell to talk to your friend at the other end of a table, but it's a bar or should I say "tap room". So basically, there's plenty going for them in the "Irish" pub department.

Now, I would have given Murphy's a few more stars but I can't recommend their food. I had a Reuben sandwich, which I will proclaim as the most-pathetic-reuben-in-manchester. Their personal pizza's look and taste like they were purchased at the local Market Basket (there may in fact be empty Celeste frozen pizza boxes in their dumpster). So if you decide to get food, get another beer (or three) to wash it down with.

Honestly, not impressed w/ this bar. I'll go for the $2 beer specials & outside deck seating. Not my first pick, but some of my friends love this place. I do love the name though. Great choice!
Maybe if the menu improves and the chicken fingers don't look like i micro'd up some frozen ones, then I'd be more of a fan. Until then I'll take my $2 Blueberry beer and a tan on a Sunday afternoon.

I've been to Murphy's frequently in the past two years.

In the past year, there have been some changes. The first is the hiring of a new chef, and with it, a new menu. Since then, all of the food I have had has been superb.

The volume of people who visit Taproom has also dramatically increased. This is neither a plus nor a minus depending on what kind of atmosphere you're looking for.

The newly expanded deck is amazing! Especially now that spring is here, sitting outside with a great beer (selection is great) and some good food while chatting with friends is one of the highlights of my week.

The staff generally seem pleasant, though I have had some negative experiences in the past. Fortunately, Keith Murphy (the owner) takes criticism and complaints seriously and is generally willing to hear your issues if you feel inclined to bring them up. Additionally, they seem to be hiring more staff to deal with the increased volume and more space.

The only downside is that parking is sometimes annoying. The deck eliminated the few parking spaces that it previously had. Street parking is usually ample, but being across from the Verizon Arena, this situation can dramatically change if there is an event. The police shutting down the street for traffic control is also somewhat annoying.

Every night has a different special promotion, my favorite being half-priced apps between 4-6pm and $2 drafts on Tuesday.

We had an engagement party for a friend of mine here last weekend. The staff was very helpful and the food was great. The only negative was the bartender was pretty rude and unfriendly. We gave him a large tip on top of tips from everyone that was there and he seemed annoyed to be there.

I've been going to Murphy's since the opened the doors. Keith (the owner) has done a great job of growing the bar, and creating a fantastic "go to" type of place in Manchester. The food is great (I love the burgers), and the beer selection is fantastic. Murphy's has done a great job of maintaining amazing specials & pricing, but not being a "cheap" type of place.

With the addition of the new patio/deck, Murphy's will undoubtedly steal a lot of business from places like Jillian's or The Derryfield. The outdoor scene reminds of a good beach-side club with live music, great eye candy, and a good vibes. While still working out some kinks with service (the place has been packed since opening), I'm sure the deck here will be the place to be for many summers to come.

My only minor complaint about Murphy's is that they have stopped carrying the UFC fights, but I understand this is due to the extremely high price charged to them for the pay-per-view events.

Good open bar, 20 to 30 beers on tap and always some sort of beer specials running. There is live music in the back most nights and they always have sports on the TVs. The food is passable but not the greatest by any means though the portionsa re pretty big. Good location helps a lot. Gets a little too packed on the weekends sometimes and the service is sometimes slow but overall a solid place to get a beer and relax for a while.

Never again will I contemplate drinking at Murphy's. The one solid effort I made with my ex and a friend of his led us straight back to the brew in under 10 minutes. Upon arriving at the bar, my ex asked for a beer menu - not an unreasonable request at a bar, nor was it unreasonable considering he had recently lost his glasses and could not see the taps. Instead of handing him the little list, which was located directly behind her with about a dozen of its little plastic encased menu bretheren, the bartender looked at him, ROLLED HER EYES, pointed to the taps and said "they're all right there". Then walked away....
Unbelievable. Mind you, she was not busy nor was the establishment, there were a handful of people in there on a quiet, lazy weeknight.
So I grabbed a beer menu from behind the bar when this unpleasant purveyor of futility was turned away from me.
Then, after our subsequent review of the list, our assesment of the atmosphere and our disgust with the staff sunk in... we bailed.
Never again.
The Rover has a better small, Irish-bar feel, Milly's has better beer (and is a great week-night bar), and the Brew is just better all around.

Murphy's is one of my favorite regular locations in Manchester.

I've only eaten there a couple times and the food has been good not great. I don't recall ever having a complaint with any menu item I've ordered, nor do I recall anything about eating them at all. =)

The beer specials are great and happen often. If you're looking for a great place to watch a sports event, this place will always have a big crowd.

One of my favorite things about Murphy's is that they sponsor a local sports league: http://www.nhssc.com - for adults 21+ Players in the leagues get great deals on drinks after their games so any night of the week you're sure to see a crowd of athletes kicking back here.

Now that I've moved away from ManchVegas, I have to tell you -- I'm sure going to miss this place.

Murphy's sponsors the Manchester beer leagues, the NHSSC, a pack of psuedo-athletes (such as my fat self) who use sports as an excuse to drink and make new friends. When we're done with our kickball, volleyball, floor hockey, dodge ball or whatever else, we head down to this bar. That alone would be enough to cultivate loyalty -- but here's the thing, the food is outstanding.

We're not exactly talking gourmet cuisine here, but when you've taken a volleyball to your nose or a kickball to the cookies, who needs it? What you really want is beer and anything that goes with it. Well, beer they have, in fact, the beer selection here is more than respectable. Whether you're a basic bud drinker or a microbrew snob, they'll accommodate you. They can even make a fruity mixed drink if you're so inclined.

But back to that food. When you get the menu it's often really difficult to decide what you want because it's all so good. The burgers are juicy and cooked just the way you order them. The mac and cheese is creamy and flavorful. The Shepherd's pie will brighten a cold dreary winter day. The wraps, which I never even used to eat until I decided I was too fat to be allowed the aforementioned, are outstanding.

The sandwiches come with three choices (yes, count them, THREE) of fries: regular, spicy curly and sweet potato. If you're there in the fall, the latter go ridiculously great with Shipyard pumpkin.

Of course, there are some serious drawbacks to Murphy's. First, the bands out back are too loud -- someone needs to tell them that they aren't as good as they think they are, so turn down the amp. Sometimes the bar staff can be as slow as molasses (they don't exactly hustle), so order your refill when you're half full. The wait staff sometimes get weeded on the busy nights, so if you're not the patient sort, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are a big thumbs down. Lastly, parking is a serious issue. Their tiny lot doesn't hold anything close to their capacity -- which is fine so long as nothing is going on at the Verizon center (there's plenty of street parking). But there's often something going on there -- so you might have to hoof it from a far flung space downtown if you don't get rock star parking.

Still, despite these issues, Murphy's has enough going on to make up for its downsides. It's a friendly young place with good food at a great price.

Murphy's would be a potential favorite of ours if there was a little acoustic padding added to the front room. Even when it's half-full, I feel like I'm going deaf.

We usually have a really hard time trying to get our waitresses to notice us, but they're often very sweet, and with lots of beer specials I suppose I'll take the savings over service!

Good for going out with friends. I usually run into at least 2-3 people I know on a night out.

I really like murphys, its definilty my kind of bar. nice and clean inside. great selection. great happy hour specials. The food is also pretty good. last time i went i had the nachos and a turkey club. They also have outdoor seating which is nice on warm summer nights. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because I went here once with a party of 4 and one time with a party of 7 and the food came out at all random times. some of us were finished before others started. Never had this problem with 2 people though. Also this was when they first opened.

Good place for pub food with some Irish dishes on the menu. The interior is an open concept with high ceilings, cherry finished bar area (with large flat panel TVs), cherry finished wood tables & seating (high top and regular), and hardwood flooring. There is also outdoor patio seating out front along Elm Street.

My buddy and I stopped here on a Friday evening for Happy Hour, when Appetizers are half price (Monday-Friday: 4 PM to 8 PM). We sat ourselves at a high top table. The server came over shortly and gave us menus. We ordered our drinks (Pint of Guinness, Captain Morgan & Coke) first and then some food a few moments later.

APPETIZERS (happy hour prices): Nachos ($4.00 - tri-colored chips baked with lots of cheese, scallions, crushed jalepenos & tomatoes, with salsa & sour cream), Seared Sea Scallops ($4.00 - with greens & balsamic syrup), & Bangers & Mash ($3.50 - grilled thick sausage chunks, chunky mashed potatoes, sauted peppers & onions) were all very good.

DINNERS: Shepherd's Pie ($6.99 - ground beef /lamb, corn, carrots, onions, & gravy topped with mashed potatoes & baked) was a bit greasy and filling. The Murphy's Guinness Beef Stew in a Bread Bowl ($12.99 - beef, vegetables, thick Guinness & beef gravy) had the hearty and rich taste of Guinness in a very doughy bread bowl.

DESSERT: Individual Pear and Apple Tart ($4.99 - cold apple & pear chunks in a sweet thin sauce topped with toasted walnuts in a doughy shell) was okay, nothing special.

BONUS: While we were dining here, the Sea Dog beer girl was walking around the place handing out bottle openers, caps, & t-shirts while promoting the Sea Dog Ales on tap.

SERVICE: Good service on this visit. The server asked us how the food was and if we wanted anymore drinks throughout our visit.

PARKING: On-site diagonal parking is available on the north side of the building with one way circulation. Exit left through the alley in the back.

New place. Interior is clean looking, high ceilings.. good vibes.
Half price apps mon-fri. YEA! Nachos are SPICY.. crushed peppers hiding under all that melted cheesy goodness. Mussels are teeny tiny, but doused in Guinness. YEA! Scallops were the most pricey and the least worth it.. i swear they cut one scallop into 3 pieces and served only like 7 or so pieces.

A plentiful selection of beers on tap... Leinenkugel, Boddington, Magners. and a bunch more bottled. LIKED THAT. mucho.

Minus one important star because the service was S-L-O-W. Waitress was nice... but crawled. i swear. all we wanted to do was order more drinks. Is that such a bad thing? haha
