Excellent simple Mexican food prepared in slow motion from a grandma. The pork tacos and steak quesadilla were especially nice. Cheap by Hawaii food truck standards.

Don't miss this if ur a foodie trapped in paradise.

If you've been to Mexico you know this food is authentic!
This aint Taco Bell.  When we moved to Hawaii we missed Mexican food the most.  So happy when this stand opened up!  Love the homemade refried beans & corn torillas!!

Just like Cali!!! It's hard to find good Mexican food in Hawaii but I found it! Nelly wakes up at 4am everyday to make fresh food and loves what she does. She rolls and presses her corn tortillas fresh right in front of you, then cooks them on the flat top. The food is great! It's tucked behind all the food trucks.

Nelly's tacos were absolutely wonderful! After having eaten at many food trucks and stands on the North Shore, I found this little one by chance near the other Kahuku trucks and high school. Best to park in the front and walk back until you see the stand  toward the back. Already tried some other Mexican places in Hawaii and overall was not impressed. That authentic taste was missing, until I discovered Nelly's! Very kind and quiet woman. Rolls out the tortillas right there and cooks them. Who would have thought? Right there and then. Ordered chicken, and got everything that was included. Potatos, rice, beans, onions and cilantro, chicken and green sauce. I asked for extra cilantro and onion the second time around because I felt like it needed a bit more for flavoring. The reason I have 4 stars was because the second time we also got a cheese quesadilla and it wasn't anything special and was $5. Just cheese and the tortilla. Maybe next time we'll ask to get some other things on/in it. Like rice, cilantro, or some salsa. Definitely be headed there again the next time we are in the area!

Disclaimer: I'm originally from California so it's REALLY hard for me to like mexican food in Hawaii. It just doesn't really compare. So if I were still in California, I'd probably rate Nelly's 3 stars. But for being in Hawaii, Nelly's deserves 4 stars. It's a simple meal done well. Quite possibly... no wait... Definitely(!)  the best tortilla on the island. Probably the one and only place I'd want to eat mexican food on Oahu.

OK, so on to the review...this is a lil mom n pop set-up. They aren't actually a food truck. The couple speaks spanish so that's a good sign. The wife hand makes the tortillas right in front of you - another good sign. They have homemade salsas, too.

At first we ordered 2 tacos: steak and pork (carnitas). $4 each. You have the option of adding papas (potatoes), rice, beans, onion, cilantro and salsa. We asked for our tacos with all the fixin's. We sat down and we were both quite pleased with the portion size and the taste. These aren't lil corn tortillas with a spoonful of meat and a squirt of salsa. These are sizable tacos (as they should be for $4 each!).

We liked the tacos so much that we decided to skip all the neighboring shrimp trucks and random other food trucks to try a chicken burrito. For an $8 burrito, it's a good heavy portion. What was interesting was that in the to-go container, they lay 2 tortillas down to cover the length of the container. They pour in all the food as if it's a huge taco. And no, they don't roll your burrito into a burrito. Strange, right? A burrito here is actually a huge ass taco! Hey - I like the stuffing so I'm not complaining. But if you're looking for something to hold upright in your hand...you won't be able to do that at Nelly's. The best part of the burrito was eating the middle portion where the tortillas overlapped. It was extra chewy and delicious. I really do love the handmade, fresh tortillas. It makes a world of difference!

Now... if only we could get Nelly's to move to town...

All I can say is, wow.

I LOVE tacos, and one of the things I have a hard time finding in Hawaii are authentic Mexican tacos, and this place really hits it out of the park.

The owner, Nelly, is originally from Mexico City, and she really knows what she's doing. She starts by making each corn tortilla by hand and then puts them on the flat top to cook. You have your choice of chicken, steak, or pork. I got two chicken tacos that were topped with onion, potato, queso fresco, beans, and fresh cilantro. All I can say is, YUM.

Nelly's is located in the huge lot where Giovanni's and all the other food trucks/stands are, but her stand is kind of tucked away in the back sort of behind the yogurt place. It might be hard to find for first timers, but it's so worth it!

From what I saw, the menu has three choices. Tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. I think the menu said the quesadillas are only available as cheese and then for tacos and burritos you can get steak, chicken, or pork. Tacos were $4 each and make sure you bring cash because they do not accept credit cards!

Lucky for me, my house is only about 30 seconds away from this place, so now I known where I'll go to get my taco fix, which might be every day considering how good it is.

My wife and I ate here and enjoyed the food.  It was a little difficult to find, hidden back behind se other vendors. The fresh, hand made corn tortillas provide an incredible base for the tacos. The choices of chicken, beef, or pork were all good (we ordered one of each so we could try all three).  We weren't sure about the potato, but it really worked.  At $3.50 each it is a great deal.

These tacos are really good. They start with a freshly made corn tortilla that is made by hand. Nelly, then places the tortilla on the flat top to cook. This fresh tortilla becomes the base for your taco. They have chicken, carnitas (shredded pork) and azada (steak). The twist on these tacos is that the meat, rice, beans, potato, is then all put in the taco. I was somewhat skeptical at first, but after my first bite I was hooked.

The taco is topped with cilantro and onion and your choice of salsa. The only thing that was lacking for me was there was not enough salsa and the salsa was not.

i will be back for sure as these tacos are filling and delicious.

They are $3.50/each but large, about 6 inches.

They are open until about 6:30pm.
