An all-around terrific club...fantastic ambiance, great live music, delicious food, professional staff and drinks that are out of this world. This should be the happening place in North County but it is a bit difficult to locate as they are located in a strip mall center with very little or no signage.  Persist...it is worth the find!

I can't believe more jazz lovers aren't flooding in by now!!! The Art Olson Trio is just soooo talented with straight-ahead jazz. Ok, I'm a horn player, but all will thoroughly enjoy this place... like a little New York jazz dinner club smack in the middle of San Marcos!! The wine and food are superb and well worth the experience. I seriously hope all come out to keep Nattiya's great place alive for years to come. Its about time, San Marcos!!!

I checked this place out after eating next door at their restaurant. This place is awesome and the specialty cocktails are unique. The staff was so friendly and knowledgable and it was great that you could still order food from their Thai establishment next door while enjoying a cocktail in a lounge atmosphere. Whoever came up with that idea should know that it was a great one. I have tried quite a few of their specialty cocktails and of the ones I've had they are great. Nice atmosphere, but what really makes this place enjoyable are the staff that I've met. It's one of the few places that actually make their food spicy if you request it. I'm usually between a 7 or an 8 on their scale, but I really enjoy spice!

This is one of my absolute fav spots in San Marcos.  It has an awesome ambiance, good music (sometimes a cute lil live jazz band) great drinks, amazing food, friendly staff (Nattiya is a sweetheart) and priced very reasonably. If I had created my own lounge, it would be Northern Spirits...but bigger :)

They DO NOT close late. Generally, if there are no customers after dark, they close the place down.

Tried going in three separate times after 11pm but the doors were locked. I thought this place was a BAR... C'mon guys!

There are too many real bars in san marcos for northern spirits to closing early.

We ended up going to Applebee's, at least they're open till midnight.

The only time I was able to get in was around 7pm with another friend. The drinks were good and the service was good. Hardly any local beer choices and their prices were pretty high. They specialize in their own house drinks, which were pretty good.

All in all, I wish this place would figure out what kind of goldmine they could operate if they did a little research and operate as a real, competitive bar in san marcos.

My new favorite place in San Marcos hands down. Beautiful, tasty drinks. Good prices. Great environment. I love it. The staff was awesome and the owner was the nicest lady ever. If you're looking for a dimly lit, upscale, classy environment but also comfortable and laid back, THIS is the place. I don't have one thing I could complain about.

This is a lounge thought up by the people who brought you Nattiya's. It's tucked away in the same shopping center as Denny's across from the Lowe's shopping center.

First time out I had Thai food that is still served from Nattiya's. And I do love Nattiya's next door. Especially anything that comes with peanut dressing.  After having dinner a few weeks ago at the bar, and I came back for drinks this past weekend. The bar menu looks like it has a "premium" feel to it. I have only ordered the beef skewers, and they were fantastic.  Definitely try out if you are a meat lover.

What's cool is that you can order food from the restaurant as well as well as from the bar menu.  I think this is a serious plus.  Who doesn't enjoy Thai food at the midnight hour?  I do thank you.

Even though I had a rookie bartender the first time out, he was very friendly and eager to please.  The second time I had a different bartender but has was seriously awesome.  He had drinks going, and recommended fruity flavors for the ladies I was with.  They loved every drink they had, in particular the blueberry infused Mojito.

With all the awesomeness of this place, the drinks were a tad bit on the high side ($8 for 16oz Lost Abbey, $12 Martini's).  Downtown-ish prices.  But the atmosphere was "jazzy" cool, and it doesn't feel like you are in San Marcos.  I was told they have happy hour too, so I am going to have to drag my boss out here soon for some after work drinks.  Great little place, try it out for yourself.

They advertise Happy Hour specials on their website but when we went there they said they do not have any specials. Not even a 1.00 off! That is bait and switch. We left.

Finally! San Marcos meets classy!!! I stumbled upon this place accidentally the other night....the bright signage caught my attention.

I went online and found a menu & a very exquisite cocktail list which excited my taste buds!

First I had the lemon blueberry mojito - great concept but I had to send it back - but it just needed a missing key ingredient! Mind you; I'm a very tough grader on the cocktail end, so any person that is not familiar with recipes, etc. wouldn't have been bothered by it. :)

Second cocktail was the Chili Mango Martini - NO COMPLAINTS - AWESOME!

Third Cocktail - Sparkling mango martini - great, but I was a little bothered that I paid about $12 for it and the tender didn't even fill my glass to the top (minus a point)!

Appetizers: Angus Sliders - great, and they even garnished it  and it came with condiments on the side and a nice serving of shoe string fries!
Tempura Veggies: A very generous portion of veggies - nothing spectacular

My tab came to $63 for 2-3 drinks & 2 apps

Very new establishment - still ironing out its quirks - very classy lounge
Great for a date night, or a girls meet-up!

Alrighty the momster and I stopped in here for happy hour on a lonely 3pm Wednesday afternoon. (We have the week off and I'm on vacation. Don't you judge me).

The bartender was super attentive. Probably because we were the only two in there but bless his heart for dealing with our antics. And while the kitchen WAS out of crab for our crabcakes (sob) it was due to a holiday delivery confusion and we was more than helpful to offer up his favoriate dish as a substitute. PS the grilled mahi tacos are major swoon-worthy.

Plus $10 off bottles of wine during happy hour? Done and done. Will be back. Probably before I head up back home. And then a few more times whenever I'm in town. :)

Only 4 stars because the wait for our food was a bit long. Especially for two ladies killing a bottle of wine.

Reuniting with my globe trotting friends after 6 months, we wanted to try a place that was new and sexy.

I hopped on Yelp to find this new lil' gem, right here in San Marcos.

Northern Spirits has been open for only 3 weeks, it is decorated in a very classy way, with crystal chandeliers, nice huge windows, very comfortable seats, and a very nice ambience lit bar.

Perfect place to go for a girls night out, or a romantic tete a tete with your date!

    THE FARE and the DRINKS

They offer full bar, and the signature cocktails are dangerously delicious.

I ordered the Blueberry Lemon Mojito, made with fresh squeezes and fruit, my friend Steph had the Chili Mango Martini; a perfect mix of spicy kick and sweet aftertaste, and Carissa ordered a wonderful Lotus drink.

    FOOD

I was very hungry so I ordered a full entree:
Grilled salmon served on a bed of whipped mash potatoes with a wonderful lemon glaze and fresh steamed broccoli...I gobbled the whole thing!

Steph ordered the Spinach Salad and the beef skewers (from the appetizers section), the presentation was very decadent, and tasted delicious as well... the meat was very lean and tender!

Carissa ordered from the Nattiya menu (thai restaurant operated by same owner), she ordered the chicken fried rice, it was a generous portion. I didn't get to try it, but looking at how fast Carissa's plate emptied, it is safe to assume it was a hit!

    DESSERT
Girls night out without dessert, doesn't qualify as girls night out!

We shared the fried tempura bananas with coconut ice cream!
Wonderfully crispy, not greasy at all and the coconut ice cream was amazing just like that!

    Drinks: between $ 10 and 12
Lounge Menu: Appetizers and entrees vary between $10 and 25

BONUS: you get to order from the Nattiya Thai menu (On the web it says from 9pm on you can order from Nattiya, but we were given the menu right the way @ 7pm)

Definitely check it out, I am already looking forward going back with my hubby this weekend!

NOTE: On the weekend reservations are recommended

This place has taken a dive with the change in staff! I cannot believe the lack of knowledge this bar staff has. My husband and I were so dissatisfied with the service. With so many choices in the area, we will go elsewhere.

Nice atmosphere. Great service. Really makes a huge difference when the people taking care of you actually care.
I'd go back again for sure.

Hidden gem of this cute and thriving city. Marvel in it's eclectic design. No expense has been spared. Very sexy and lounge like. Comparable to if not better than a west Hollywood bar and lounge. Bar food is served to compliment it's onset of tasty flavored house cocktails. A must for those who looking for sexy and romantic ambience. Setting is meant to inspire lasting memories with friends for those late nights. Opens til 1am everyday. Enjoy!

You must check this place out. Finally, a cool, hip bar/lounge circa the swing jazz era of the 40's and 50's right here in San Marcos.  It's connected to one of our all-time fav Thai restaurants and features several interesting drinks, including the ginger mojito.  Apps are great too, especially the lettuce wraps and includes several american and asian influenced entrees as well.  Happy hour includes some great specials and drinks, including bottles of wine are 1/2 off the rest of the month!

Expect to see piano entertainment in the coming weeks in this beautiful new lounge right here in San Marcos!

We found this place by chance and can't wait to go back!

The bf and I decided to try a different Thai restaurant and while we were walking through the doors of Nattiya's , I glimpsed the Northern Lights announcement board outside and noticed that drinks were all half-off for the month of November. So we decided to check it out after dinner.

This place is connected and owned by the same people as Nattiya Thai Restaurant but other than the Thai inspired décor and drinks, the menu and ambience are completely different. We walked in and instantly knew that this place would be our new watering hole. It's a bar with a sophisticated and modern flair that's perfect if you want to lounge, listen to some songs played on the piano and sip on some amazing drinks.

I liked the chili mango martini (it was like sipping on mango juice with a kick) and the bf liked the Thai Old Fashioned. We just had dinner but next time, I'll definitely be ordering something (maybe the sliders or calamari?).
The bartenders, Tim and Ray were awesome! It was a slow night but it was great talking to them. They also told me that Happy Hour will be from 5-7pm and that the bar is open daily until 1am.

I didn't want to jump the gun and rate this place a 5 after just one visit but we can definitely see ourselves coming here regularly. If you need a different bar scene, you should check this place out. Cheers!
