An average bar in Long Island. They do have bands a few nights each week so some people enjoy the live music while others don't. What's the alternative? DJ playing some popping music! Do they? Eh, not really. There's a huge dance floor to dance but I've rarely seen people actually dance. I like the outdoor area the most. It's good and refreshing to hang out there when the weather is good.
Drinks, DJ, band and the cover fee all make it an average place overall. It's exciting the first few times but then gets boring after going a few times. Not a routine place I'd visit or recommend a friend but I guess for life on Long Island, it's alright. Check it out at least once!
I mean I shouldn't really give or take any stars as I didn't get to see the interior but I was denied entrance due to "faggy haircut," "baggy pants,'  and "bad attitude" and that was all for joking that there was a cover to get into a place on Long Island.  Have a sense of humor you pathetic excuse for a  human *sswipe working the door.
That being said, maybe another night.
Oh and if you're reading this (doubt the guy knows how to use a computer) you're lucky I didn't turn around and get you booked for assault you absolute moron.
Definitely a place you have to stop if you want a beer in Farmingdale. This place changes crowds almost at the drop of a dime. Sometimes happy hour can be pretty quiet, and seems like the locals have assigned seating. Come 8 o'clock or any type of drink specials and BAM here comes the young crowd.
Food is awesome, drinks are cold, and the wait staff is great. Big John knows how to run a place and does a great job here.
you would think this is a very big guido bar, but its actually not that bad. Â it is a very mixed crowd, almost always a decent time if you like to dance. Â they have some decent bands sometimes, and Dj Cory is pretty good as well.
if you go with a few friends, you make it pretty fun.
I really like this place. I do love it most of the time but I did not love it this weekend when I went for my birthday and it was like 90 degrees! we spent most of the time outside instead of watching the band because it was way too hot inside. I love to go there and see the bands, dance and drink but it's hard to do that when it's boiling.plus some of the people (random people not anyone who works there) are complete idiots. this one guy just started dancing like crazy with some girl not caring about the 10 people behind him who he kept bashing into. like how do you just start dancing and not care you keep hitting into a huge group of people? who not to mention were there first and you squeezed in. and on TOP of that there was plenty of room. it was like he just wanted one of us to slap him which I almost did but luckily my friend yelling at him and screaming WTF when he hit into her for the 20th time made him move slightly away. I'd say those are just the drunken idiots who at that time should be moving on home instead of onto the dancefloor. so yes please put the ac on higher next time! also I agree with the reviews others l left about the cover. $5 is much better then $10.
Review Source:They always have decent live music, and nice karaoke nights on Wednesday. If you can score a G.I.F.T. Card late in the year, you don't have to pay cover for most night during the year.
This is a great place to hang out with friends on the weekend. Although you do get a lot of guidos who seem to be auditioning for "Jersey Shore". However, it is fun to observe these guidos, LOL
You never really know what you'll find at the Nutty - as a 22 year old it's strange for me to feel like I'm the oldest/youngest person in the bar, yet it's pretty likely here. The $5 - $10 cover is annoying, the crowd can get downright weird, and no one wants to watch people humping in the corner while the live band sings Killers songs....right?
When I come home from Boston on holiday weekends I try my best to avoid these places but sometimes it's impossible. I really wanted to hate the Nutty but while it does have its faults, I actually found myself having a good time. A few reasons why:
- free coat check!
- $3 bud lights
- decent live band
- LOTS of room for dancing/standing/sitting
- the diversity of the crowd can be pretty entertaining
I've also been here during the week on karaoke night which is always fun - especially for a girl who likes to close down bars with a ballad of "Piano Man". At least the Long Islanders appreciate it :)
More like 3.5 stars, but I round up.
This place doesn't have a long shelf life meaning that you'll love it when you're 21 - 24, but probably not for too long after that.
First, the cover is ridiculous for this type of bar (it's anywhere from $8 - $10 depending on the night). I get they have to pay the band, but it's the Nutty Irishman. It should be $5 or less. Â That being said, the place offers plenty of room and it usually doesn't take longer than a couple of minutes to get a drink at any given time (prices for drinks are pretty standard too).
They usually have some sort of live act / band going on which is a nice touch and a change of pace from the top 40 DJ that you usually here elsewhere. Most of the time when I go it's some sort of cover band which I'm a fan of.
They also have an outdoor patio with another bar which is fun when it's nice out. I'm not sure they do this anymore, but in 2008 every weekend was a BBQ thrown for a specific town (you show your ID and you'd be able to go to a BBQ on the back porch for free..very cool stuff).
The place also has free popcorn..if that's something you care about. Overall, it's not a bad place to spend the night, but this place does get old after a couple of years.
Tip...order a beer from the first beer when you walk in. The bar by the dance floor is usually very crowded.
Came here twice so far, once for New Years Eve and once on a Saturday night later in the evening and was somewhat impressed both times.
The Nutty is a mix of an Irish bar meets wannabe dance club. They have all the knick-knaks that make it an Irish bar with a number of TVs while also reserving a small area for people to dance (sad part is, the DJ usually isn't that good and people don't usually come here to dance). Â
Overall, it's pretty spacious so even at peak times, you will NEVER feel crowded and will always have space to move around. You probably won't ever have to wait longer than 1 or 2 minutes to get a drink at the bar since there are two full service bars.
NOTE: When coming on Saturday night, they charge $10 just for cover, unless you have the $20 "Nutty Card" that lets you in all year long. They might also have live bands every Saturday night playing all of your favorite old school rock favorites.
Ouch, did anyone get the number of the bus that ran me over...
The Nutty is still throwing a kicking happy hour- or happy hours in my case. Â Although the place was surprisingly slow for a Friday, our group still had a great time.
Double bonus: The guy at the door carded me - lol, I thanked him profusely.
Last night was my 3rd time visiting on a Friday.
Met up with my coworkers for Friday Night Happy Hour around 5:30pm. The (weak) drinks were half price and the Buds were 2 for one. Â The free buffet is one of the best I've seen for a happy hour..with options for everyone.
They had the Mets, Yankees and Rangers on and a band was playing in the back.
The outdoor area is good for the smokers among you, or for a breather.
Just seems to be something to do before going somewhere else for my group.
After a night of drinking, my head is throbbing and I've got allergies to beat the band.
This place is completely solid, the dance floor is large enough for an entire crew of people (50 or more), they have two bars separated by about 50 feet. The live bands on Saturday are a pleasure to sing along with while drunk as a skunk. I myself was singing along to Journey (I don't care what you think it was hysterical watching myself go at it). The female factor in here is good size, 3 women per guy, problem is most of them brought boyfriends (Grrr).
The beer selection is medium sized (9-11 so bottled, 6 on tap), so I was happy with my selection of Heineken ($5.25). After about 7 of those I began to feel completely shit-faced and wandered around in a stupor, watching UFC (great show btw), talking with friends, taking dumb photos, you name it. Left at around 1am, couldn't continue on with the partying, was feeling sick (I drink rarely).
On a side note I would to talk about the dress code: Apparently wearing chains of any kind on the outside of your shirt is prohibited. We had a bouncer walk right up to us (wearing a "Staff" t-shirt) and said "tuck it in buddy", my friend obliged, he said it was routine. Another thing is hats. Now I got away with wearing mine, but my friend mentioned to me that they don't allow them in the club. I don't see how they could enforce that, since hats are worn everywhere, why would this club in particular prohibit them?
Second note: for the love of god, park in one of the municipal lots! There are plenty of them and if you aren't well enough to drive you can leave your car overnight in some of them (check the signs first). Street parking is just not an option, no spaces and your car is exposed to drunk people (not good)
Final note: Ladies, when you're dancing, please don't dance with your hang bags hanging off of you. It looks ridiculous and you aren't safe guarding your property by holding it out in the open.
Total Assessment: Spent $46.75 (7 drinks and $10 cover charge). Well I didn't actually pay $10, the bouncer said $10, the change lady in this little booth to the right handed me back $12 from the twenty I gave her. I didn't say anything but I don't like being ripped off, nor would you. Â I love my fellow Yelpers too much =)
I have been to this place numerous times and It is usually a pretty good time. Â Lots of people from the town go there so you almost always end up seeing a bunch of people you know. Â There has been a 5$ cover the times that I went in the evening.
They have pretty good food and the kitchen is open till last call. Â Bartenders are pretty good there. Â
On Thursdays they have 2fers and beer pong tournaments.
Besides having to pay a $15 cover (which I always HATE!) I kind of like this bar. Great big stage for live music, outdoor patio with heat lamps if you want a cigarette or change of pace. It's a treat not to have to fight for entrance in NYC so I'll take this Long Island spot if I have to :)
Review Source:I wanted to hate it. And if it wasnt for Wednesday night, I would have given it 1 star on account of the new haircut guys hanging out there. Ive gone before and it was the usual Mulcahy's... I mean Crazy Donkey... I mean Dave and Busters... I mean a Long Island bar.
Karaoke night with DJ Barryoke is awesome. I have never seen a song selection so big - and so cleanly organized. More than that, the sound system is great, DJB really knows how to get those vocals to stand out. The singers sounded great, there were more than a few times I forgot that we were listening to live people singing and not the recordings.
Nutty seems like a different place altogether when they close the back doors. For Wednesday's karaoke and a kitchen that closes at last call (!), I will be back. Come trashy girls on the weekend... count me out.
The kind of place you go to for a while, then get tired of it...then go back after a while, and wonder why you used to come here so much.
this place is good for one or two visits, but its gets very stale.
although guitar hero night on Tuesdays are alot of fun.
they do have very good bands that play...mr. greengenes, kristen and the noise, and the gyst. Â but i always feel like im hearing the same music from the DJ between sets, even though i come once every couple of months.
This place is really lame. Not only do they charge a $10 cover, the drinks are weak and overpriced. Â This place is almost always crowded on a band night, but the atmopshere is so shitty, you'd be better off going elsewhere to see your favorite band play. Â Even the Dj here isn't great. Â Â
The crowd here is your typical Long Island girls and guys (stuck up, ignorant and arrogant) Â I've never gotten so many dirty looks from so many different people at a bar before, nor have I had not one person try to talk to me.
Sadly (but also obviously) their other location in Bayshore is exactly the same.
