I just came here for a birthday party with a set menu of various items. First came the salad which included fruit, shavings of cheese and a raspberry vinaigrette. I am not one for fruit in my salad but the flavors worked surprisingly well! Next on the table were avocado chicken rolls with a spicy dipping sauce - we all devoured these as they were delicious. The salsa on the table was very good as well as it had a significant kick of spicyness and balanced consistency. For entrees, I got the shrimp fajitas and everything tasted really delicious - vegetables were not soggy and overcooked like some mexican joints screw up on. These were absolutely delicious and I ate almost everything. The staff were friendly and very attentive. Drinks were included with the birthday group so we were ordering many margaritas in which our waitress was very quick about! I also thought the Sangria tasted really good as i could pick up on the bourbon. I particularly love the decor and atmosphere. It really made me feel like I was in a mexican house and the whole vibe was very warm. I have not tried that much food here but I have to say that my experience was great and I look forward to coming back for a review update!
Review Source:I'm docking them two stars. Â I'm a little mad at them.
I went with my sister after a movie last night; we had a 6:30 res. Â We arrived at 6:45; this was due to the fact that South of the Border has no parking. Â They share their lot with, what, five other businesses? Â That might be a conservative estimate. Â One of those businesses is a pizzeria. Â We drove in and out of the lot twice; that involved making two u-turns to get back to South of the Border. Â Once we walked in, the hostess said, "Oh, it will be a twenty minute wait, and that's for a bar table..." Really? Â Because, literally, next to the hostess, was an empty table for four. Â If they had people waiting (which it didn't look like they did, but assuming, ok, they did), then why hadn't they sat them at this table? Â
We left. Â I wasn't going to wait twenty minutes to sit at a bar table when it was their parking situation that made us late in the first place. Â
Look, we could have called and explained, but it was just such a hassle trying to get a  spot that we didn't.  South of the Border needs a better parking situation.  I'll re-update when I'm less mad.
Overall rating: 3.5
I'm torn between a 3 and a 4 star rating because the establishment is small, and the wait time could become astronomical (anything over an hour is ridiculous because I can finish a whole meal in an hour). However, the food is delicious. Since this was my first time here, I asked my friends what they recommended and they said, "honestly, we haven't had anything we didn't like." That 's a good sign. So, I ordered the porkchop with cranberry sauce (I forget if that was a special or a normal menu offering) and it was cooked well and tasted delicious. Everyone else was pretty pleased with what they had also. The service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere within the restaurant was lively (and by lively, I mean you sometimes have to shout over other people to even be heard by your own party).
