Oh Fusion is probably the best place in Muncie to go for sushi and/or Japanese/Korean food. The decor and atmosphere are cool. Sometimes the wait staff can be weird - either too attentive, or not attentive enough. But they are always very nice.
Of course I love the sushi/nigiri options, but a lot of times they are out of several types of fish/seafood. It's a bit ridiculous to offer things like clam and sea urchin and then never actually have any to offer a customer who has ordered it. Every time we go in there is always something we order that the waiter/waitress comes back and says they are out of. Disappointing, but not a deal-breaker.
I adore the Chap Chae. It's a Korean dish of noodles made from sweet potatoes, stir-fried with delicious vegetables and sprinkled with sesame seed. It's got a chewy texture and a sweet taste. Seriously, Google a picture of it and tell me it doesn't look amazing! And nothing could be better than washing it down with some Sapporo or Asahi beer.
The portions are big, and my eyes always wind up bigger than my stomach. For the amount of food you get for the price, it's a decent value. The food also tastes way better than Domo or Fuji. (No hibachi tables here, which is a-ok by me!)
There have been tons of restaurants in the Village that have come and gone, but I'm glad to see Oh Fusion still in the game.
I was a little taken back arriving here on a friday night at peak dinner hours and finding the place practically empty. I was promptly greeted by a waiter and told to sit where ever I chose. We picked a booth and was greeted with a menu and a fill in the blank sushi menu. I ordered the Lady K and the April. My better half ordered the salmon bento by recommendation of our waiter. She said her salmon was cooked well but she kept finding bones in her salmon. Which she was turned off by but still managed to eat the majority. I was impressed with the freshness of the rice with the sushi. It really added to flavor and made it that much better. I had a tough time spending over $40 for the both of us, but I imagine I would be back if I was in the mood for sushi again.
Review Source:Of the other Japanese restaurants here, Oh Fusion is my favorite.
It is hard to judge the ambiance because there were only 1 other couple in the restaurant. Â
I had the bento box Spicy Pork. Â I thought the presentation was nice. Â It came in a box which was compartmentalized and the food was placed neatly within each compartment. Â The bento box comes with the main dish, fried or sticky rice, 4 California rolls, 2 sushi rolls and some fried vegetables. Â The portions were very large and easily enough for a 2nd meal.
Our bill came to $40 ish without tip. This included 2 bento boxes and a beer. Â Considering the meals were big enough to take home, I was ok with that.
The only minuses were that I am a newbie with chopsticks and asked for forks. Â The waiter tried to offer them out of his trouser pockets. Â Also, they were out of a lot of the beer that was on their menu.
I'm so glad that my brother introduced me to this place when I was home for a visit - and I'm also sad that Oh fusion japanese wasn't in the village during my time at Ball State! Â It's a great addition, for sure, and I love eating here whenever I make it home to Indiana.
Don't let the outside of the building fool you - it isn't much to look at - but once you're inside Oh fusion japanese, it's like stepping into another world. Â Love the decor. Â I've been here a number of times and have always been seated right away. Â The service is always good, too.
The edamame appetizer is great - as is the miso soup. Â My favorite entree is the teriyaki chicken bento box, which also comes with 4 California rolls, steamed white or fried rice, 3 pieces of delicious tempura vegetables. Â I uploaded a picture of this meal on here. Â
I also recommend trying the mango mochi ice cream. Â It is fantastic and such a pretty presentation! Â I uploaded a picture of this, too. Â
My brother is a big fan of their various rolls and he and his friends have recently been partaking in their all-you-can-eat sushi nights. Â I hope to branch out and try more off their menu soon! Â
This place is a real gem in Muncie. Â Check it out!
Finally great sushi options in Muncie! My husband and I had the Fang Fang Roll, the Playboy Roll, & the Ninja Roll. All 3 were delicious. The price is lower than nearby competitors ( naked tschopstix), but the sushi was just as wonderful. We will definitely be coming back anytime we are in Muncie!
Review Source:I ate here (and reviewed it!) a week or so after the store's opening. I thought $42 for lunch for 2 (before tip) is on the steep side, but it's the only place for Korean in this town. Â Miles was run outta town and new management was heralded in MAYBE?
Regardless, I've been in several times for the Monday Tuesday AYCE sushi for $15.
While you can't get every roll or nigiri from the standard menu, you can make out pretty fucking well. Â Included is tempura, chapchae, miso soup, teriyaki chicken, and 10 or so respectable norimaki and nigiri sushimono. Â They offer too many deep-fried rolls for my taste, and not a whole lot of big pieces of sushi grade fish, but overall, this is a helluva deal. Â A couple Sapporos and tips the server (hot Rachel) and the Tibetan sushi chef, and you can bring it in at $30ish. Â I'll be back!
Oh Fusion Japanese is a wonderful find ... a cool sushi bar and restaurant along the sadly desolate strip of empty store fronts on the campus of Ball State University. Walk in the doors and you're instantly transported into beautiful asian decor and water cascade. Spacious, you can easily have a group of friends meet for dinner, or intimate enough to share with a special someone.
Service is great, knowledgeable staff can answer any questions you may have about items on their menu with confidence and detail. Our server offered great recommendations as well.
I had the Teriyaki Shrimp and veggies ... very tasty and fresh. I opted for the fried rice side dish, and it left much to be desired. Had a very cardboard after tasted about it. The main entrée was great, however.
My friend ordered the Sushi Moriawase sushi and tuna roll dinner. The Ahi roll was amazing! Mild but flavorful.
One of the only local places where you can also find Sapporo Japanese brew, which pairs nicely with the meal!
Prices are moderate. A nice place to treat yourself too when DoMo Japanese Steakhouse doesn't suit the budget. I look forward to visiting Oh! Fusion again.
My Fiance' and I met up with a couple of friends from Hartford City who are fans of the non-traditional as we are. Â My friends' wife is from Japan and He actually taught there for a couple of years before moving back in '08.
We were completely sold on the outstanding quality of everything. Â We started with a sashimi app. that was simply unbelievable. Â There's a "white tuna" on it that is to die for! Â A creamy-textured fish? Â I know, but OMG! Â AWESOME! Â Unlike anything I've ever had!
Then Bento Boxes all around! Â WONDERFUL! Â
Just a GREAT addition to the restaurants in Muncie. Â And the vote of authenticity from from our friends made us feel like we'd almost had a cultural experience.
We're going back tonight!
What can I say? I love this place. I don't claim to be a sushi aficionado, but  I can say this is the best sushi I've had in the Midwest. Always fresh, always well presented, always delicious.
Great for lunch! Their bento boxes go for about $10 during lunch, and that includes a California roll, veggie tempura, rice, and an entree (I recommend bulgogi or chicken katsu).
Great vibe here, definitely good for a date.
this is the better of the two japanese restaurants in muncie, though the other is a hibachi grill. Â so maybe they should be evaluated differently?
i have two criticisms of this place. Â
one: the yakitori had raw button mushrooms skewered on it. Â yakitori is not an american style kebab. Â please stop putting vegetables on it. Â but the sauce was good and chicken was tender.
secondly: my friend ordered some kind of sushi bowl. Â it was like a salad of sushi, avocado, and some other vegetables and sauces. Â it honestly looked like a pile vomit. Â the presentation i suppose could be worked on and maybe it needs to be scaled back to an appetizer portion or something. Â we both agreed it was the oddest thing we've ever seen.
Amazing sushi - every item created to order. Both the miso soup and the egg drop soup are outstanding, and have depth of flavor. The volcano roll, and the Geisha roll, are particularly nice. Â Rolls come with soup and salad, so the meal is quite filling for relatively little money. Don't plan to be in a rush, at least not for dinner - this is a slow meal, and meant to be savored.
Review Source:Fresh, tasty sushi with great combinations. Â Favorites were Alaska roll (cali roll topped w very fresh salmon), Lady K (shrimp tempura, avo, cucmber topped w spicy crab and a dot of sriracha hot sauce) and ninja roll (soy paper, tempura salmon, spicy salmon, avo, cucmber crunch w spicy mayo...my fave of all!) Â Quality of fish is excellent, no old "fishy" tasting sashimi. Â Just-right sized rolls (not too big, not too small) and are fairly priced. Â Nice atmosphere with good service and reasonable prices. They are working on their liquor license, beer now available and wine to be coming in the future. Â Try the deep fried tempura oreos for something different!
Review Source:Pretty good overall. The egg drop soup was quite possibly the best I've ever had. The sushi was tasty but definitely not "the best in Indiana" as stated in another review. I'd strongly recommend the unagi (eel) nigiri and the maki roll with shrimp and mango. The rainbow roll was average and the Philadelphia roll was just okay. Service was excellent and parking was abundant. Â Whatever you do, avoid the restrooms ...at least before you eat. They are quite truck-stop-esque and totally contradict the otherwise classy decor in the rest of the restaurant. Nevertheless, I'll visit this restaurant again the next time I'm in Muncie - Â the egg drop soup alone is worth a repeat visit.
Review Source:Went here on a date and was pretty happy with the food, and prices are about average for a sushi place. The service was decent enough, and I highly recommend the university roll. Amazingly good. My only complaint was our waitress didn't explain the dinner options or inform us about soup and salad additions, which would have been nice. Still, its a nice date place expect to pay about fifty bucks for two.
Review Source:I was skeptical of eating quality sushi in Muncie (sorry local peeps). I was completely mistaken. This place was AMAZING! The appetizer of the yellow tail roll was heaven. We ordered a rather large meal of the dinner portion of Bento box I think. Â It came with soup, choice of meat, tempora and california roll.
The seafood was all very fresh and excellent quality. The egg drop soup was complex and by far the best soup I've ever had at an Asian restaurant. The chicken teriyake was wonderful too. Overall, I will come back to this place every time I go to Muncie on business.
A group of four of us were in town for a consulting job and we ran into someone at the gym who recommended Oh Fusion. Â We were thinking we would not be able to find any decent sushi in in Muncie but we were wrong. Â
Two of us shared a chef's choice sashimi platter and it was really delicious. Â The seaweed salad was also very good as was the side salad which was served with a refreshing light citrus dressing, a nice change from the usual mayonaissey ginger dressing.
We ordered another sashimi platter, that our other colleagues shared and they also enjoyed it. Â Afterward the green tea ice cream was a nice finish.
This is a new place in "The Village" by BSU. Â Great vibe to this spot. Â The senior staff is attentive -- junior staff not so much. Â The Sushi Boys behind the prep area look totally in charge. Â Started with Bento Box -- beef -- it was a bit fatty but delicious. Prior to that salad with a great sweet asian dressing, and soup (a bit bland for me, but that's likely the way it's made). The rest of the Bento Box had sushi, rice, tempora. Â Nice. Â My wife had tuna -- delicious. We had Geisha Sushi prior and that was fantastic. Beer and wine served though they were out of most of their white wines. Ugh! Â Dinners were around $15. Give this a chance -- boy I'd love to see them make it!
