IF you have ever had the desire to learn how to line dance, this is THE place to go! Great Tuesday night line-dance lessons, $3 cover and $2 domestic beers and margaritas, ya can't get a cheaper night out in LA!

My first visit was probably ten years ago. But I went back last week and experienced (in my mind) a somewhat smaller version of what I experienced in my youth. Friday night is why we came, the disco music. Where do you hear disco music and see people of all ages and genders dancing and having a blast? All this place needs is a lighted dance floor! They have a crappy selection of beers. I get the country theme, love some of the music actually but something other than bud light and miller light would be cool. haha But this place rocks. karaoke upstairs (although come early or else you will never even have a chance).

There was a time when Oil Can Harry's had the BEST retro-disco Saturdays...the music would be authentic radio and club disco, from Donna Summer to Chic. No more. This is my seventh time back on Retro Disco nights, and it is with regret I have to find a new place to get my disco fix.
The music is on par with shitty wedding party music. If I hear one more "remix" of "Disco Inferno" or any other stereotype of this kind of music it would be too soon. The DJ's on Saturdays pander to a new crowd that are a mix of older gay clientele who bring their hetero girlfriends and their annoying too-old-to-still-be-frat boyfriends with them, and dominate the dance floor by trying to "show off" grinding and knocking their drinks and themselves into other patrons.
Oil Can's used to be one of the most fun gay discos here locally, but in the last couple of years have widened an audience of just a lot of "lonely straight girls" who claim they don't want to be "bothered", but have no problem bothering the rest of us who just want to dance.  I don't want to feel like I'm at a damn bachelorette party or be a part of some sloppy ensemble who think they're gonna relive the movie "Bridesmaids"
THIS is what Oil Can Harry's has become, at least, on Saturdays.
Please note, I love my friends, both guys and girls- straight and gay. It just sucks that Oil Can Harry's has become this weird kind of endless Wedding-after-party music lair, complete with those wedding barnacles, like these "bridesmaids" type of patrons.
For the person looking for the "lonely female" private dancer who just happens to "let it all out" in a gay bar, this is the place to meet them.
For the person looking for true disco, this is NOT the place. This is a never-ending- Wedding music dive. Expect to hear "Don't Stop Believing" and " YMCA." again. and again. and again.
The drinks are cheap, but the top shelf tastes (and feels) like well. Every time. They have karaoke upstairs too...loud, and someones always singing a damn slow country song. And crying. every time.
