The restaurant is a house that's been converted, and the dining area kind of snakes through a few small rooms. It's a little awkward, but it works. The food wasn't anything spectacular, but better than some chain. I had the peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes with a side of country ham. The pancakes only had a couple peanut butter chips and a few more chocolate chips in them, so it wasn't the sugar overload I was anticipating. The ham I don't think could have been any saltier without being pure salt. It wouldn't be my first choice, but I'd do it again.
Review Source:I have been in Johnson City for 2 days now. I have eaten at the Old Towne Pancake House for 2 breakfasts now. There are not many local-type places like this for breakfast. Hardee's does not qualify. That is not the only reason I went here for a second time. The food to great. The eggs are perfectly cooked and not greasy/oily. The gravy is peppery and delicious. The pancakes are cooked evenly. There is nothing fancy here, just a good country style breakkie. The first reviewer was right, there is not much parking though. The service is friendly and fast.
Review Source:DH and I ate at this little breakfast place on our day trip into Jonesborough. Â I can see why the parking might be very difficult, but on the day we were there, it wasn't busy. Â It is a small, cozy little place, and the staff seemed friendly and helpful. Â DH ordered a larger breakfast (not sure of the name) that included pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and eggs. Â I tasted most of it, and was impressed with the flavor and quality. Â I was especially impressed with the gravy, and I don't usually even like it!
I ordered pumpkin spice pancakes, which the menu says they make all year, not just as a seasonal offering. Â YUM!!! Â I was a little disappointed in the scant amount of whipped cream on top, but they had a fantastic texture and flavor.
Overall, I would definitely visit this place again if we are in the area.
NOTE: I believe they are open only until 2, so plan accordingly.
