Me and the husband had the fish and chips on Monday. They were pretty good. Three good-sized planks of cod. I imagine they start off frozen but nonetheless, still pretty good and flaky. You get a choice of two sides with entrees. I selected fries and the side salad from the list of sides. Â We were charged for the two side salads, which was disturbing. I didn't question the charge, but will definitely ask next time as to what the choices really are.
Review Source:I love this place! It is great for a mid week breakfast or fantastic for an evening of live music and drinks. Its a beer and wine only joint but the Bharmacy capitalizes on its nostalgia and makes a fantastic Guinness Float in their old float glasses just like I used to have my floats when I was a kid here! Â It's also a lot less racist then I was a kid too! Which is a perk! They have some awesome lunch fare a decent amount of space, great service and a wonderful outdoor patio! Its quickly becoming a new venue for some really neat artist and has been working on developing this for some time now. Its definitely one of my favorite City of Olmos places and I do reccomend a visit!
Review Source:OK, I've heard a lot about this place. Â Maybe I'm too old ... not hip ... or I am just from another planet ... I just don't get it. Â From the point of parking and having to walk past stinky trash dumpsters to just how unclean this place was ... I just don't get it. Â
I went with a friend on July 4th for lunch. Â It was not busy. Â In fact, maybe there were 3-4 other tables at most. Â When you walk in, you're told to sit wherever you want. Â Like another reviewer for this place said, I just don't get the seating. Â The half booths with small tables and an opposite chair put you right next to the table next to you. Â The tables and chairs in the dining area are pretty darn close together so, if it were busy, I would have waaaay not enjoyed that arrangement. Â
So, did I mentioned how dirty the place was? Â I mean, not a busy place when I was there and yet, dirty tables everywhere, flatware on the floor and general food particles on the floor as well. Â I would have left (I know, I could hear you saying it too!) but 1) my friend picked this place and 2) I've always heard about this place and that I should try it. Â
We ordered the nachos for an appetizer. Â They are the kind of nachos that are a mound of tortilla chips with beans and cheese poured over them. Â Then 1 big dollup of guac and 1 big dollup of sour cream. Â Now, if the beans had been seasoned, these would have been pretty good. Â But ... they weren't. Â The cheese was good. Â the chips were good. Â At the end though, they looked pretty yucky as it all got smushed together! Â
We both ordered burgers ... I had the Bacon and Bleu. Â It came with steak fries. Â The steak fries were uneventful although fresh - but they had no seasoning. Â The burger ... omg. Â While their trademark must be to brand the bread/bun with the Rx symbol, I have to tell you ... all I could smell was burned bread and all I could taste was burned bread. Â The trimmings appeared to be fresh and you get mayo and mustard on the side if you ask. Â The patty itself was OK but a wee bit overdone - as in well done. Â It had no juice and no flavor. Â
We moved onto a shake and a malt. Â This was probably the best thing. Â The malt was malty. Â The whipped cream was fresh. Â You get the extra malt stuff in the metal container thingy. Â It was really good. Â
Will I go back here again? Â No. Â I am sure at night when libations are flowing and you are there for the entertainment (which is hard to believe a band really fits in this place) - maybe it is all good. Â Â if you have low expectations, it might work for you.
Pros: The music tonight was a cool old dude playing songs about his pro wrestler grandfather.
Cons: The food is really bad at best. Â It's dirty. Â It's a bad example of a dive bar.
This place has a ton of potential, but it is just nasty. Â You can go to a dive just down the road with way better food, way more beers and you won't worry about spending extra time in the restroom the next day... Â But then again you won't get to see the old guy singing about his pro wrestler grandfather.
The more I live and experience new things, the less I understand the power of hype. Take for example the much lauded Olmos Bharmacy, a faux throw-back to the old diners. But I fancy myself as being a pretty open-minded person and in my experience hype is usually just that.
When you get there the layout of the place is not really conducive to a good drinking and eating experience. Tables there are situated so close that you could probably help your neighbor eat their soup. The seating arrangement is all jacked up also. You have, what would be booth seating, with small tables in front of it. It's really kinda hard to describe because if I did it still wouldn't make sense. Confused? When you go to this etablishment you will realize just how impractical this seating arrangement is. Another thing that doesn't help this place earn stars is the service.
Looking at the place and then seeing the influx of people I began to ask myself, just who are the servers here. There seems to be this insistence in trying to be hip, by the attire of the people that work there you never truly know who the waitresses, cooks, barkeep etc. At much more organized places that I have been to the staff usually wear things that tie the club together. But here you have two waitresses that didn't seem like they knew what their roles were. So when you tried to order anything they both seemed clueless. I must digress. Let's get to the food.
On this day we ordered the nachos, mozarella sticks and of course I tried the (in)famous Guiness Milkshake. First the nachos were overfilled with a goop on top, we couldn't eat but half of it. The mozarella sticks seemed like they defrosted a bag of pre-made Oreda ones, somehow still cold in the center. And now for the Guiness Milkshake. I'm not a mixologist mind you, but it seemed like they took a milkshake then dumped a bottle of Guiness in it. Feats of great rocket science I tell you! I could have went to DQ, bought a shake, and placed a bottle of Guiness in it. It would have been the same exact thing. Again, all part of the hype.
For the food, the service and the area I was in I expected a little better on all fronts.
Pretty soon the place was packed and people were looking for seating. Oh, wait there is none you say? Well it's because some really bad band's gear was taking up a good portion of the Bharmacy by then. For the size and space of the place it seems like that area would have been better utilized by more tables and just let a jukebox play in lieu of a band. In my opinion the house band did nothing for my experience, it just made the room feel smaller. As I am writing this, stars are being subtracted quickly.
At the end of meal and drinks l asked for the bill and eventually got it. The whole bill was a ridiculous total, but anyway I just wanted to leave. And by now the place was booming with customers arm to arm. We waited for 20 minutes before our bill was finally settled. I figured each few minutes she did not respond I deducted it from her tip. I really did not take any pleasure in doing in that, but one of my pet peeves is when wait staff totally ignore you or flat-out disregard you. But I also understand that the place was bumping when the evening crowd came in and the establishment was majorly understaffed. However, when this sort of thing happens, and I am sure this is not the first time you should hire a few extra people, so all points will be covered.
I guess I look at the reviews to my right side and see that they like this place. And maybe they are right. Maybe it's just me. But in a perfect world good- food and good service would walk hand in hand. However, this is the real world and within that realm this place only gets one star by me. But just barely.
My first visit to the niche place with food & live music was almost a complete disaster. Â Vintage is definitely in the air when you approach the entrance as the green neon glow from the windows illuminate the old counter where hand dipped milkshakes are prepared. Â The lunch/dinner menu is small but my mind was already made up to try the burger based on a recommendation.
First my friend requests beer which is typically stocked, however today they're out. Â He shrugs and asks for another selection only to find out it was out as well. Â Third times the charm and he gets a Stella Artois served in a bottle, no glass provided. Â The [inexperienced?] server took our order without writing anything down, and when I had to repeat what I wanted three times I assumed something was going to be missed. Â The menu offers a burger with a choice of mustard or mayonnaise and the standard lettuce, pickle, tomato and onion. Â I requested a mustard burger with no onion, add jalapenos and avocado.
After a lengthy wait, the burger arrived with a cool "Rx" branded on the bun. Â No avocado, [mustard or mayonnaise] Â was to be found, and the [white colored] tomato slices were some of the saddest looking tomatoes I've seen in a long time. Â I reached for the Heinz ketchup, put some on my plate to realize that I had been fooled again. Â This was NOT Heinz brand ketchup and the plastic bottle had been worn paper thin with all the refills and use over the months[?], year[s][?].
I finished my burger, which was fine, to order a Guinness Milkshake other people had reviewed so fondly, only to find out they're out of Guinness too. Â Arghhh! So I decide to have a regular chocolate shake, and it's true to form; very good. Â The server apologized as they were out of whipped cream... seriously?!
Mediocre burger with deplorable grade toppings, seemingly out of everything under the sun, and table that wobbled more than one in an earthquake makes this a "M'eh. I've experienced better". Â The milkshake was the only thing which saved this place from a "Me thinks not" rating.
Back To The Old Days
The place is an old time Pharmacy turned restaurant with beer and wine, & with malteds and shakes at the original sit down counter. You can just imagine Poodle skirts and ducktail haircuts that had sat in those seats during the 1950s.
Very nice menu, at prices that you can afford. Very friendly staff and the owner practically lives there, which is great to see such a great work ethic.
The food is your typical family fare, so if you are looking for Filet Mignon then you are in the wrong place. We bring the kids there as well as do others. Great breakfasts and lunches. We have not had dinner there yet, but have had evening wine and beer while listening to their live music shows.
So if you want a great lunch sandwich (yes they do serve dinner too) or just to unwind with a few glasses of vino while listening to some acoustic Celtic music or old 70s Rock n Roll then this is the place to try. Music every day too... WOW
So look up the music guide on the website.
I highly recommend Olmos Bharmacy
PS try the Guinness Shake... yum
Terrible service even though there were very few people on a Sunday morning. Â Waiter was pleasant though. Â Pancakes were raw in the middle and the gravy for the biscuits and gravy dish was bland and tasted like it was out of an envelope. Â Spinach omelette had very little egg and was a block of spinach.
Review Source:clever name, great location, fun local atmosphere. i'm not going to lie, when i went there with a group of people a couple weeks ago at 7 p.m., we clearly skewed the median age by 30 years, but thankfully, my friends were cool with it, and nobody bolted. i'm sure the place has a pretty decent mix of demographics that frequent the joint regularly.
let's get down to brass tacks: the famous guiness milkshake. now, there will be those who shake their heads in disdain, cringe, eyeroll, and furiously gesticulate. others, like 6 out of our party of 8 that embraced this tasty libation ordered it...at $6 it's a real value, for not only do you get a bottle of guiness but a high quality chocolate milkshake. it's so big, you feel like you're getting 2 milkshakes. i couldn't finish mine, so i gave it to a friend that was also finishing my other friend's second milkshake. funny anecdote, that guy wound up ordering a salad as a way to negate all the calories induced during the milkshake consumption. i digress, "the milkshake" is one of those novelty menu items like fried twinkies that you must have on your culinary/gastronomic bucket list. let olmos bharmacy check that item off your list!
The best thing about this establishment is the nightly live music. A great beverage to go with the good jams is a Guinness Chocolate Float. It is really delicious and addicting. Â Their burgers are thick and juicy. The chili has just the right amount of spice. Don't forget the onions and cheese. There menu is not all the extensive but they do serve up some good grub. Don't order the mac and cheese. It taste more like mac then cheese.
Review Source:I've only had the beer milkshakes here, and if you haven't tried it yet then you should head to the Bharmacy ASAP. It appeals to childhood nostalgia via the delicious chocolate milkshake served in a milkshake glass and cup with the rest of the shake. It appeals to adulthood since its mixed with Guinness and they even give you the bottle so you could pour the rest of the beer with the rest of the shake.
I would have never guessed how good milkshakes could be with Guinness. They compliment each other very well, and you basically get enough for 2 glasses (It's so tasty I inevitably start to drink it fast so this comes in handy). It's the perfect desert drink for beer fans and a great drink to cool off in the summer as well. I've never seen this place crowded, the crowd is a little older and mature, I believe it's open until 1am, and they often have live music. Have a good time here, but if you have too much fun you should avoid driving through Olmos Park.
Most Yelp about the drinks, live music and evening food offerings but i am here to tell you this place has some very tasty breakfast offerings too.
Last Saturday I had a need for breakfast real bad and wanted to try someplace new. So as any true Yelper would do i opened up the mobile app to see what was close and open. I had no idea this place served breakfast.
I got the biscuits with sausage gravy, added an egg and hash browns. All very good and very filling.
I will be back for breakfast and to try them at other times of the day.
I am new to San Antonio and this place was recommended by an acquaintance. Â We went to the restaurant to hear the San Antonio Blue Cats, not for the food, but the food did not disappoint. Â My husband and I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was fantastic. The chicken fried steak was huge! Â It was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Â Yummy! Â It came with homemade gravy, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese and Texas toast. Â They have homemade milkshakes but we were too full to indulge. Â Maybe next time and there will be a next time. Â
We loved the SA Blues Cats and they play at the Olmos Bharmacy every Friday. Â The band had a great sound with trumpet, trombone, and sax players, in addition to a harmonica player, drummer, and lead and bass guitarists. Â
The place originally started out as a pharmacy in 1938 and has a great historical vibe. Â Make plans to stop in.
My good friend took me to Olmos bharmacy and while I had a pleasant time, the food wasn't all that great.
I ordered the pharmacy burger which consisted of beef, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles. I added cheese for 99 cents and that to me, was a little expensive just for cheese. The beef lacked flavor and moisture. There was really nothing special about the burger. Â I LOVE burgers but I definitely won't order it again. As a side dish, I ordered the Mac and cheese which, by the taste of it, probably was just instant kraft Mac and cheese. I had a few bites of it and did not come back for more.
I love to eat and I usually finish all the food on my plate, but this time I didn't and I didn't ask for a to go box. While I loved the retro feel of the diner and while the waitress was super sweet, the food wasnt memorable.
Olmos Bharmacy gets an A for effort, but in reality, as you can see by the star rating, it was pretty mediocre. The food was relatively cheap but disappointing because it was plain and boring. I ordered the BLT with a side of corn souffle which I thought would be amazing but it fell real short. The bacon was dry and some parts hardened which made it even harder to eat. I also got to try the meat loaf and grilled cheese and at most, both were 'OK', it definitely lacked bold flavors. For the meatloaf, it's cooked twice, once in the oven and then again when they pan fry it to give it a crispy brown texture on the outside, but for some reason, it's not served when any gravy or sauce on top which leaves the meat dry.
One thing this place does have which is probably the only way I'd go back for are the Guiness Milkshakes. I can't even begin to explain how delicious and decadent these alcoholic shakes are. When you first take a sip, all you can taste is the chocolate but as soon as it hits the back of your tongue, you get the kick from the dark Guiness beer. The texture is perfect -- smooth, creamy, and not too thick.
Ups: affordable prices, Guiness milkshakes
Downs: the food, parking, service
BLT - 1.5/5
Grilled Cheese - 2.5/5
Meat Loaf - 3/5
Macaroni & Cheese - 3/5
Corn Souffle - 3.5/5
Guiness Milkshake - 5/5
Nice atmosphere with live music but food not so good. Service was spotty at best. Standard beer in bottles. I ordered a Black and Tan and was told I couldn't have it due to an overload of customers. I normally try things twice before writing them oft! One more time, but not for a while.
Review Source:Went here for lunch on the strength of the Yelp reviews - and had a fine time.
Only one gal was waiting tables, but it was slow and not an issue. I had the chicken sandwich, my two amigos both went for the pastrami. All was delicious! But the clear standout was the mac & cheese side. Oh dear lord time for some more checkins at the gym.
Can't wait to go back at night when the bar is open and the live music was playing.
Somebody call the real pharmacy and get Olmos some better service meds!!
My visit to Olmos entailed the following situations:
- Ran out of coffee mugs so I got an expresso shot mug with no room for cream and sugar for my coffee AND and an unfulfilled promise that I would get a coffee mug once the dishes were done.
- Waited 41 minutes (thanks for the check in feature Yelp!) until the waitress realized she forgot to put our order in and once it was actually put into the kitchen, food came out in 10 mins.
- Our order of blueberry pancakes contained ONE BLUEBERRY mixed in with random walnuts here and there.
- Witnessed the live musician stopping in his set to bring some menus to a couple right next to him, but the place was not even packed.
I guess I should have topped off the experience with a milkshake as I heard from a co-worker (after-the-fact) they are pretty decent there.
My wife and I loved the vibe of this place. Â It's an old pharmacy and still has the lunch counter. Â Before the band played, great jazz was on the sound system. Â Their beer and wine selection is great. Â Food is good--the people we were with both complimented the fish, and my wife and I enjoyed our sandwiches. Â My wife, who is picky about her mac and cheese, raved about the Olmo Bharamcy version.
Later, the place got crowded (but not too crowded) and a terrific live blues band performed. Â
I wish the two businesses (bar and restaurant) could coordinate their orders--you get two bills and need to pay separately, which is strange. Â Our bill made me laugh--$15 for food and $39 for drinks.
Check it out. Â The Bharmacy is a casual, comfortable spot for comfort food, good beer and solid music.
I enjoyed a Guinness milk shake here the other day.
I have always loved ice cream and always loved beer. Combining the two is pure genius. The heavy, dark beer paired well with the vanilla ice cream and mixing the two together made this foamy, frothy concoction that was like a root beer float on alcohol. Amazing. Why I haven't thought of this before, I don't know, but for serving me one so scrumptious, I'm bumping the Bharmacy up to five solid stars.
I have yet to try any food, other than ice cream. I would have imagined they would serve something more unique, but it would figure it was Blue Bell. They've got to keep that old fashioned flavor I'm sure!
I love the whole atmosphere and being on the corner of McCullough and Hildebrand, you see a lot of passing by.
It is a very unique setting when the bands play. I love all the neon lights and Christmas lights as well. Every night the music is different and always entertaining. They don't serve hard alcohol, sake only, which is kind of weird. They have a great wine selection and beer selection.
Since the (P)Bharmacy is a historic landmark in San Antonio, I will frequent it as much as possible to keep it open.
A bharmacy... the place you can go to cure what ails you. Or in this case "ales" you. Har har. Chalk another one up on the San Antonio is cooool side of the board for you all counting em out there. We walked in to this kitschy bharmacy -- the only one I've ever seen, incidentally -- with Elvis on the speaker and low lighting giving me the sense that I'd somehow landed in an episode of Quantum Leap.
The 50s diner serves food, natch and the menu looks divine. Although we were too late to try anything, I hear good things. I'll be back for sure for some of that banana split lovin'. Back to the matter at hand -- boooooze, glorious booze! They've got a great list to choose from no matter what your preferred flavor. I had a couple glasses of red wine and my beer nerd drinking partners bounced around the pints like kids on crack.
Stop in, grab a drink, grab a bite. The evolution of this institution is just the next step in it's great history.
Three stars for the food, four for Monday nights half-price wine bottles and jazz! Â My first trip to the Bharmacy was with the ex, and we split a banana split. Â So-so, nothing to write home about. Â Servers were friendly but assembling said dessert seemed to involve multiple trips to the freezer to determine if they had the necessary ingredients...??
Next visit, I borrowed my pal's hubby for wine and jazz. Â The trombone player's multiphonics schtick aside, the combo was pretty impressive. Â I did find it a little weird to be drinking wine in front of young kids with milkshakes though.
Sock hop. It needs to happen here. Krys: OYE! I love a good old-fashioned diner, and this place has all the right touches: little lights strung up over the wall-length booths. School-like tiled floors and chairs. Not much kitsch, so it comes off feeling authentic and just plain cool. Wiled away an hour or so here on a Sunday night, with just a few other patrons. Beer list and wine list had plenty variety to choose from, and prices were reasonable. Hate that we missed a chance to do diner-style food. But with the soundtrack ("reunited and it feels so good" to "you give me fever" to "sitting on the dock of the bay"), you can't help but feel fine.
Review Source:Blink and you'll miss it, this blip along a stretch of McCullough: inside, this thin, dineresque spot made for the perfect kind of laid back, pseudo-kitschy hang that remind me of the kind of fun secrets that sometimes lurk in our state. They're not trying to do anything particularly complex here, which suit me and my tour guide just fine.
Musically, they seem to book singer-songwriter types, and if that's not your fave, grab a seat at the mini bar in the back and let them pour you a tall one. I grabbed a Chimay white and a Leffe on my two recent stops and was pretty impressed at the selection available. Obviously beer nerdy territory. Second only to perhaps some good old fashioned conversation.
Honestly, half these reviews look like management making stuff up.
I can't say much for the night life here, but we came here one evening after work just randomly hoping for a decent dinner, and we were extremely disappointed. We walked into a dark, dirty atmosphere, and there were maybe 1 or 2 other parties. We weren't acknowledged by any staff when we entered and we could not see any menus, so we just sat down confused and waited for someone to come and help us out. Nothing. We sit there 10-15 minutes, nothing happens, and we just leave. Worst service I've ever had.
Over the past few years, I have heard magical things about Olmos Bharmacy, including Current reviews about the lively atmosphere and genuine diner fare. While I now believe that maybe this time has come and gone, I am sure that on some nights the chicken fried steak that I eyed on the menu is of excellent taste.
However, we walked in on a Sunday morning, expecting to find a savory breakfast worth waiting for. We were mildly disappointed, not necessarily by the dishes, although obviously lacking, but overwhelmingly with the service.
I ordered the biscuits and gravy with sausage, with a side order of an egg over easy. My gorgeous date resurfaced with a pastime favorite, migas with a side order of buttermilk pancakes. While breakfast is not always easy, I must admit that it is not incredibly difficult to achieve. That being said, it seemed obvious that my sausage and gravy were haplessly thrown together, with just overcooked sausage patties cut up and thrown in to a simple white cream and flour. The biscuits were delicious, however, and my egg was cooked perfectly.
My counterpart's migas contained undercooked potatoes accompanied by overcooked eggs, tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos. The tortillas were fresh, but the salsa left something to be desired. While the dish was mostly devoured, I believe it was the longer that usual wait for our food the drove our hunger.
Unfortunately, our waitress forgot our order of buttermilk pancakes, and so when we finally received them, it was apparent that the dish was made on the fly. As such, we unable to eat most of the most prized staple of the Bharmacy because the pancakes were undercooked in the middle. Because Olmos is both known for their diner style service and specialty pancake dishes, we were equally disappointed.
The highlight of my brunch was the live guitarist who provided an appropriate acoustic medley. Even though this Sunday meal was not inspiring as hoped, I am willing to give this diner dive another chance, just probably not at breakfast.
You may have seen this little gem while passing down the street on McCullough. At first, what probably catches your eye is the unique, very well-kept art-deco architecture. It's truly pristine. When I first saw the building, I thought, "Wow, what a cool old Pharmacy!" And then.....I saw those beautiful liquor bottles all lined up in the window, gleaming in the sun, calling out my name...My head, seriously, almost snapped off my neck while I was driving. I thought.....OMG!!! Now THAT is a place I have got to check out!
And so I did. Last night, with my best friend. It was Monday, Jazz night. Half off all bottles of wine (well actually, ALL wines are only $16.50! Â Reg $25-$50.....Great wine list too). There were musicians, everywhere. Literally, one after the other walking in the door waiting for a chance to sit in and play with a highly talented group of local jazz artists. There were horns, trombones, bases, flutes, base guitars, drummers, base sax....the list goes on and on. There were almost more musicians that jazz-loving fans. Wow.
The decor inside is "early 50's diner." If you're wanting something more "chic" than that, you're missing the point. The menu has everything from big juicy burgers, to blast-from-the-past fried bologna sammies and of course, ice cream and malt-shoppe fare. We tried the fried jalapeno poppers which were quite good.
The crowd was delightfully eclectic. People my grandparents age (there for the old, big band tunes no doubt), to younger, Jazz-loving afficionados.....even some aspiring Michael Buble types who took a turn at the mic.
Everyone seemed quite mesmerized, dreamily transported back to a by-gone era.....jazz tunes lilting seductively in the air. I ordered a $45 bottle of Champagne.....wow, for $16.50. THIS will be my new standing Monday night happy hour in San Antonio.
The "people watching" opportunity alone, is worth checking this place out. Lawyers, doctors, janitors and handymen. Beautiful music is the glue that breaks down walls and brings us all together......I can't remember the last time I saw so many people smiling, starry-eyed, peaceful and content. Â
Who could ask for anything more? They can't do anything better at Olmos Bharmacy. They shouldn't touch a thing. It's perfection in too many ways to count. It's a time machine.......one where we can step in for a few hours and leave all of our cares behind.
Come early to get a table. The bar is open until midnight and cafe serves food until 9pm (disregard posted hours here on Yelp.....we notified the management of that and they'll get that corrected).
I used to dread Mondays. Now, it's my new favorite day of the week....
Frequent this place often as a few friends play here every now and then. The food has always been great and definitely has that homemade Jim's-ish thing going on. Beware of the mac and cheese-it's straight up like a great aunt's at Thanksgiving (by that i mean with the grease on top and bottom, baked and tons of rich {cheddar?} cheese. Que rico!). The pasta salad is the http://bomb.com. Love that they have a theme with coinciding specials every night and also...yes, usually great local acts. I do like the mixed 50's diner & wine bar decor/ambience-sounds weird, but it works for some reason? It's comfy. Booths against the wall on your left and a sit down bar on your right with tables in the middle makes for plenty of seating. Glad they could keep this classic part of San Antonio around.
Review Source:Having grown up in this area of town I was definitely a visitor to the pharmacy. Now that I'm an adult nothings changed. I really enjoy visiting the Pharmacy.
The vinyl booths are so much fun. I always love that old timey feel and that's definitely something that you can feel here. It can be a bit pricey so don't expect pennies for food. The milkshakes are for sure the best thing here. What's funny is that you wouldn't expect to see everything you see when you walk in. It's a fun place and I would definitely recommend it to someone that doesn't know the area.
Good for a milkshake. Can't really say anything else b/c I have only had their milkshakes. They have more flavor choices than your average "diner." Be prepared to pay an extra $0.40 for to-go shakes.
Dang, my reviews seriously make me sound like such a frugal person. I swear I live a little..
You have got to be kidding me. We went there for a drink and appetizer on a weekend night. What a mistake.
I got the appetizer plate for $10. It had olives and couple of nasty dolmas that both looked like they came out of the original bottle purchased when they opened the pharmacy. The star of the plate was a thick, sticky hummus-like paste that was obviously made out of a dry mix and water. They served it with a handful of tortilla chips. The wine list had nothing that you would pay more than $9 for at HEB.
And to top it off I was surrounded by people talking about how the world is going to hell without Dubya in the White House!?!
Once upon a time, there was the Olmos Pharmacy, home of milkshakes and outdated medical equipment. Then, there was the Olmos Bharmacy. Not much has changed inside. Vinyl booths line the walls and inside, and the soda fountain and counter still run along one wall.
If you're up for a new experience, have the beer milkshake and fried pickles, both surprisingly good. The beer and wine selection was excellent. The live music was a little loud, so I was glad we brought Scrabble to play. All in all, it was my kind of bar - not too loud, not crowded, and open to board games.
