Good food and fun quirky environment but avoid whenever there are more than two groups waiting. Â Have been 10+ times and may have had enough. It regularly takes ten minutes to put your name down, the hostesses must represent the least qualified employees, and there are always 5+ tables open when you're quoted a half hour wait. Why have the tables if you can't utilize them? Â Love supporting local but this place could use an operational overhaul (and maybe some more staff??).
Review Source:Very popular restaurant. Very convenient spot. Close to downtown, and on outskirts of Bradley University Campus. Hippy very jolly warm feeling. Waiters are very personal. Recommend Barbque Chicken Pizza and dell  sandwhiches. This is the type of place you are willing to try something new and mysterous because its bound to be good.
Review Source:My girlfriend and I had Dinner at One World cafe recently. The salad and soup we ordered were both very good. However, our entrees were problematic. Her sandwich was oily and drenched in dressing. My falafel was burned to a crisp. We sent both dishes back. The on-duty manager and waiter were very patient and nice with us. I have no complaints whatsoever about the service. My coffee drink was also very good. I just wish the entrees had been cooked better. I would be willing to try this place once again as I like the atmosphere.
Review Source:My brother recently moved to southern IL so I was in the area for the first time in many years. Â I did my Yelp homework and read some solid reviews about One World before I made my dinner destination decision. Â One World won the "Where to have dinner" battle and I'm glad this is the place we ended up.
I walked into One World and I almost walked out after almost 5min. passed without a greeting from anyone on the staff. Â The Hostess was non-existent and I was honestly really annoyed. Â I am sure this location loses business to a bad first impression frequently. Â The introduction to the restaurant was awful! Â Finally someone takes my name and we have about a 10min. wait, which was not too bad for a Saturday night. Â
Once we were seated the experience got 110% better. Â I believe our waiters name was Ben, he was phenomenal and we couldn't have been any happier to have him for a server. Â We were greeted by our server and had our drink orders promptly taken. Â I had a $5 Long Island and it was delicious and the price could not be beat! Â
We had my nephew who is 2yrs. old with us and our server promptly took his order as well which was awesome. Â It was really nice for him to get his food before us so that we were able to enjoy our meals later when he was already happy and full. Â
For appetizer, we tried the chips and salsa which were good. Â The salsa is very hearty is like nothing I've had before this diced tomatoes with salsa spices. Â For dinner, I had a really good chicken ranch wrap with Baja rice on the side. Â The rice was different from anything I've had before and I really enjoyed the mixture of rice, potatoes, peas, carrots, and seasoning. Â For dessert I tried some of the chocolate cake which was decedent and tasted homemade. Â I was very pleased with the food. Â
If you have a bad 'greeting' experience, try to look past it. Â The dining room service and food will make up for most of the bad feelings you have about the place afterwards. Â I would definitely visit again.
I had a great experience here. Â Go on Mondays & get 1/2 price bottle of wine! Â I had hummus appetizer which was good but I think it needed a little garlic. Â I had the cuban pulled pork sandwich was awesome. Â The roasted veggies were also delightful. Â I will defiantly visit this place again.
Review Source:This will be my new favorite spot in Peoria.   Even though parking is not real convenient  it's definitely worth it.  The Cuban sandwich was delicious and the service was very good.  The place really fills up at lunch so get there early if you can or you will have to wait, but it's worth it.  It has a hipster/collegey (made up word) atmosphere which I find cool.
Review Source:I was staying right across this restaurant for one year and used to go there once every week. I never had any bad experience over here; all dishes are amazing and have One World's own touch. Desserts are awesome here. They keep on changing the art and in the restaurant and sometimes you find some really interesting stuff hanging on their walls. Staff is super nice and always give you suggestions if required. Definitely one of its kind in Peoria!!
Review Source:I normally visit Peoria about once a year to see my husband's family. Â I have been meaning to try One World for a couple of years but never got around to it. Â Now I live here! Â I finally made it to One World a couple of weeks ago.
I was really excited to see they had falafel on the menu. Â It was not the best falafel I've ever had, but it was really good. Â Service was really friendly. Â We had a large party (I think 19 people) and the waiter immediately started everyone on separate checks so we didn't have a big mess when the check came at the end of the meal. Â The atmosphere is a chill coffee shop type of vibe. Â It's a cute place.
I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu! Â I checked in on the Yelp app and got a free tote bag as well.
I had high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately it fell a little flat. Â For an appetizer we got the spinach and artichoke dip, which was good but very heavy on the cream. The presentation with huge slices of bread on the platter was a little unappealing, as well. Â For dinner I got the bistro salad, which was decent. My dad got the Hungarian Stuffed Pepper, but when it came out it was drowned in so much sauce that you couldn't even make out what the pepper was! Â The presentation of the food at this place needs a lot of improvement!
Review Source:This restaurant is definitely overrated. I heard nothing but good thigns but ended up disappointed. The wait was long, the service was terrible, and their "famous" hummus wasn't as amazing as people raved.
Also, when I showed the waitress my first check in on my phone to receive my free tote bag, she accused me of trying to con my way into getting free things from the restaurant.
Yup, never going there again.
My absolute favorite restaurant in Peoria. Â I love it so much that I recommended it to all of our visiting wedding guests two months ago...many were equally pleased!
The World Turkey Club is to die for along with the delicious hummus. Â So happy that the restaurant has expanded in size over the past 5 years...now more people can experience the amazingness of One World at a time! :)
Looks great on paper (in pixels?) but in reality it's a mediocre hippie cafe. Most of the people who work here seem miserable and totally holier than thou. We walked in and were immediately snarled at by a girl who seemed to be just sitting down to her lunch ("not my problem" says the paying customer), who brought us all the way to the back of the restaurant, between the kitchen and bathroom, and left.
We analyzed our surroundings and the many open tables and tried to find someone to ask if we could switch, but everyone was busy pretending we were invisible. We waited for about 5 minutes for our waitress and just decided to move to a table by the window.
Our new waitress came over and, finally, smiled. She seemed to be the only person in the whole cafe who was actually waiting on her tables (and she had quite a few of them).
The falafel wrap was decent, but someone needs to teach these people how to make tzatziki. It shouldn't be the color and consistency of watered down milk. M's sandwich was disappointing as well.
We had planned to order coffees and sit for awhile, but it was clear once we were finished eating that we weren't welcome anymore so we brought our business to the Starbucks across the street.
I haven't eaten here yet.. The times Ive come have been with friends for coffee but the coffee is good.
The staff was pretty cool and friendly and seemed to joke with us which is a cool thing.
From what my friends say the food is good. Plenty of room in this restaurant and they have plenty to choose from along with desserts.
It is well lit and the decor is so so. My friend seem to like the Hummus but I'm not a fan of it.
Fun place to eat. Good food with a very eclectic menu that has something for everyone. This place is especially good if there are people that have other food restrictions (vegetarian, food allergy). Service could be better but this place is so busy that's understandable. I've had the appetizer sampler (hummus and spinach artichoke dip was great), Sante Fe Chicken Wrap was good, gyros were ok, Spinach&Feta Pizza was great, Eggplant Lasagna was ok, Crispy Salmon Volcano was really disappointing. Desserts are limited by comparison to the rest of the menu but just as yummy. Convenient location with Starbucks and froyo nearby. Stays open relatively late.
Review Source:Visited One World after Yelping on a road trip. Delicious!
Service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere is nice, with a college town feel. Artsy but not snobbish. But the food was what stood out the most. I got the Eggplant lasagna and my parents got a pizza and specialty salad. We all loved everything, and it was nice to have a plethora of healthy options to choose from. It was hard to decide what to get.
Overall, fantastic restaurant. Plus, the free tote bag didn't hurt :P.
Service: 8/10
Atmosphere: 8/10
Food: 9/10
I went to Bradley from 02-06 and One World was always a favorite and it is one of the few Peoria gems I find myself missing to this day. I recently was back in Peoria for a day due to some fortuitous events and "brunched" here with fellow Bradley friends. It was as good as ever and the BBQ chicken pizza was just as I remembered it.
However I'm only giving 3 stars due to the remarkably bitchy woman behind the counter. My friend decided to buy an overpriced t-shirt on our way out so he politely asked the woman behind the coffee bar if she could help him get one of the shirts locked behind glass. As if offended by the request, she snottily replied that she "had drinks to make" and told him he should "ask someone else." Then when my friend went to just look at the shirts already out on display she came over anyway to "help," which was a rather unpleasant exchange. She then abrasively asked a server if he could "just help these people" because she "had drinks to make." Whatever, lady, I get it, you're a barista - get over yourself. If management reads this you should put that barista prima donna in her place -- long dark brown hair, tattoos on her arm, and a terrible attitude -- can't miss her!
One World has is a super chill joint. I had the pizza; beware, they are much larger than you expect. The pizza itself was pretty good, I had the BBQ chicken. We had the cheesy flat bread as an appetizer, which was more like a cheese pizza. By the end of the meal I was pretty "pizza'ed-out"
Server was very friendly
One World is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. I don't think I've ever had a dish here that I didn't like. Except for maybe the occasional soup.
I've been eating here for over ten years. I've traveled the world and found very few hummuses that are better than One World. The hummuses that are better tend to be homemade. The spinach and artichoke dip is also one of my favorites here. I have yet to find a place that does it better (besides homemade, of course).
I love the BBQ chicken pizza, the Thai chicken salad, the breakfast is good, the macaroni side ($3) which is a newer item, is excellent for the taste buds as well as the wallet. The coffee drinks are good, the addition of the bar is great.
The walls are cozy and the changing art exhibits keep it fresh.
A definite must if you are in Peoria.
After eating at pretty much everywhere in Peoria, I'm dubbing this the best in town. Â If you can't find something on the menu to suit your taste, you don't like food. Â Meatavore, and vegi, it's fairly eclectic. Â Add on top of the food, the solid bar and coffee service, and you've got a winner. My favorite is the cuban pork, because the spicy bbq mayo is heaven in a tiny little dish. Â The blue cheese, mushroom, and walnut pizza is solid as well. Â I've never had a bad brunch or dinner, so check it out. Â You won't be disappointed.
Review Source:Great Humus. Barbecue chicken pizza is a favorite.
Only time I had a beer there, the lines at the bar were not clean- the drink was terrible.
There interior decorating is interesting and rather spastic. Murals all over the walls. Very friendly staff. Food is good but a bit highly priced for its quality.
If I were to own a restaurant, this would be it. Everything about this place made me smile. I had the portobello mushroom burger with blue cheese, thousand island, greens, and a jam of sorts (strawberry?). This was the best portobello sandwich I have ever eaten. AMAZING. The pesto potato salad was my side. OMG. I couldn't stop. They also had a great variety of beers on tap. Server was super friendly as well. The desserts looked superb, but I had no space left. I cannot wait to return to this restaurant over and over and over again!
Also note, if you check in with the Yelp app, you get a free bag! So cool!
One World serves breakfast all day, something I just realized on my last visit. After attempting to come in several Sundays in a row and be faced with a line out the door, I decided to mosey on in at 3pm for my breakfast and avoid all those pesky people who want their breakfast in the morning! I decided to try the Alexander Supreme egg bowl. It was a layered dish starting with potato chunks then eggs mixed with green/red peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and onions and then topped with sliced ham and melted cheese. It was baked in this dish so the cheese was all melty too. I added bacon rounds because I love bacon and also wanted to see it be round. It certainly was round and delicious! The bowl was huge and despite my attempts to convince myself that scrambled eggs don't actually have any mass, I failed to finish it.
The only downside to this meal was my chai was served just warm and quickly cooled in just a few minutes. Our server was very kind and heated it back up though so he saved the day! I think I have found my new 3pm breakfast spot!!
Turns out Yelp is alive and kicking up in Peoria, and the app lead me straight to One World on a random trip out there. It was open until 11pm during the week and someone's mention of their supposedly awesome hummus had me craving some, so I gave this place a visit!
As far as appearances go, One World is just alright. It's almost TOO well-lit inside... the lights hurt my eyes coming in from the dark of the evening. The décor is just so-so, but don't let that discourage you from trying something off of their rather extensive menu. So, what did we decide on? Quick rundown:
Hummus--really just okay and not much flavor... the portion size is nice, though, and the pita bread it comes with is so soft. Like unbelievably soft.
Freshly made salsa--Ohhh wow, so good. Ripe tomatoes, spices, herbs, and the perfect amount of heat. I'm a fan of salsa that's more pico de gallo than liquid form, and I wish I had that recipe to make this one at home.
Portabella quesadilla--the star of the show. Loaded with tangy cheese and juicy mushrooms, I never expected it to have as much flavor, but wow. It comes with a healthy dose of sour cream, too.
All that for just $24? You've got yourself a deal, One World. They do offer alcohol and also an impressive selection of coffee drinks, perfect if you need help staying awake on the drive back to St. Louis. I have no idea why I'd ever be in Peoria again, but should I be, this spot is on my list!
There are a lot of unique food options at One World. I love their hummus and their Herbivorian sandwich. The BBQ pizza can be heavy on the BBQ sauce sometimes, but it's yummy and great to share.
On this latest visit our server Benjamin was very good.
Be warned that at times you may have to wait for a table or things can take a bit more than an hour from start to finish, so if you are on a strict schedule it may be a problem.
They also have a great eclectic breakfast menu and Bloody Marys, which makes One World a great Sunday stop.
There is a coffee bar so if you want to grab a Joe to go, they've got you covered.
Wow, what a menu! One of my favorite things to see is a non-vegetarian restaurant that has a menu chock full of veg options. I'm not vegetarian myself, but I don't like to eat a lot of meat, so the variety of choices One World offers is really fantastic (no veg pasta, though? That's just weird). I haven't eaten here a lot, but I've stopped in a few times and enjoyed everything I've had. If we were closer, we'd probably be here at least once a month.
This place isn't perfect. Some dishes seem priced a little high (though the pizzas are definitely enough for two, so that works out nicely), and service can be slow sometimes. Parking can be a real pain depending on time of day. But as a whole, this is a good, solid restaurant, and you WILL find something you like here.
I'm in love with this place. Driving through Peoria I wanted a place that:
- was tasty
- had a menu online
- offered a variety of options
- was open sundays and had extended lunch hours
One World met all these criteria and more. We called from the car, ordered to go, swooped in and picked up the food and were off again! Once on the way to and another on the way from our destination. Both times were flawless, staff was uber friendly, and I loved the whole feel of the place.
The menu is extensive enough not to run out of options either - and the soups were so good (white bean tomato, asian mushroom, etc). Our first trip I had the southwest chicken wrap and the second the falafel. Both recommended. Next time in town I'll hopefully have a chance to enjoy a sit-down meal here and one of their tantalizing-looking desserts. Clearly One World is a local favorite, as it was full with people waiting both Friday and Sunday. I bet their brunch is to die for as well...
This place is great. Once I got past the Hippy sorta atmosphere, I really got into the food, and the drinks and the fun of it.
My friends and I come here to splurge a bit every so often. The food is really good, and inventive. The atmosphere is upbeat and fun. The servers are always nice and accommodating to additions and changes to requests.
The drinks at the bar are fair priced and are generously poured.
I enjoy this place every time we go.
One World, Oh I Love Thee.....
So its Saturday, and hubby and I drove down to visit his grandma (the greatest cook in the world, who has hung up her apron--bless her soul for all those marvelous meals up to this point). We intended to go to our usual hangouts (Jim's or Jim's Bistro) and drove to BOTH only to learn they were not yet open. We tried a few other of grandma's favorites that are tolerable (thank GOD VOP is closed... bleh) and NONE were open.
Seriously... Saturday in Peoria and not open for lunch!?!?
Hello One World. Not only were we famished, but we were lucky enough to get seated without a wait.
I love the decor. The painted tables and the wall murals which are hiding things in the images--so you have to look close {:-) (blush)
Service was great. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive doting on grandma.
I had the falafal salad and it was good. I loved the dressing.
Hubs got some wrap thing that was a bit small, so he got to enjoy 1/2 of grandma's burger--which they both said they enjoyed their meal.
Thank you One World. You made the 3 hr @ way ride to Peoria tolerable :) I may return more often.
Fell in love with One World on my Bradley campus visit, and it never let me down for 4 years of college. I haven't lived in Peoria for over 3 years, and I still miss their food!
The atmosphere in One World is great... eclectic mix of furniture, murals on every wall, and ever changing art exhibits. One of my favorite art professors in college painted the giant face that's on one wall.
The food here is soooo good. You can't find this kind of stuff at other places in Peoria. The hummus and the spinach and artichoke dip are two of my favorites, but literally everything here is awesome. Like the World Turkey club. And the Veggie breakfast Bungle. And... ok, I'll stop, this is making me really really want to make a trip to Peoria. Yummy...
Beware, peak times (like Friday and Saturday nights) when Bradley is in session, the place gets packed. The waiters get spread a little thin and sometimes you have to wait a little while, but it's well worth it. And it could be better now, the last time I was here was 2 years ago while visiting campus.
Been here twice, travelling through town, and had a good experience both times. Â First was a late lunch midweek, it was very quiet & seating was immediate. Â Had the shrimp wrap -- spicy, messy , and full of flavor.
Second time was with the family in tow, Labor Day brunch. Â Place was packed -- waited about 15 minutes for a four-top. Â Service was very friendly and as fast as could be expected given the circumstances. Â I had the fish sandwich (tilapia). Â I suggest they change the species -- there's not much saving grace to Tilapia except its price. Â Another option would be nice; even catfish has more flavor. Â But the herb rub and the pesto mayo helped. Â What helped even more were the seasoned fries -- ohmigod! what a wonderful heaping of salted fried goodness. Â
My wife had the Herbivorian. Â It looked tasty and WAS tasty -- but came stacked so super-tall that it was almost impossible for her to take a bite. Â Presentation is nice, guys, but it shouldn't be your prime directive.
Had a very nice lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. Â The space is large, warm, and very inviting. Â Staff were a bit frazzled, but friendly.
My husband and I each had the falafel --mine in a wrap and his served on toasted pita. Â Mine was definitely the way to go, as his was a complete mess to eat. Â Falafel was delicious and served with a very nice hummus and tahini dressing mix of tomatoes, onions, etc.
I had a side of fries and he had veggie chili. Â Both very good, as was a side salad I ordered.
Seemed to have a good beer and drink and dessert selection, although we didn't partake.
Absolutely someplace I would return. Â Prices a tad steep and service a tad slow, but wonderful place well worth a visit.
The first time I ever visited One World I had a wonderful experience, yet the subsequent visits continually get blocked by poor service and over priced food.
First, One World's Service continues to leave much to be desired. If you can get the hostess/host to seat you in a timely manner, then you more than likely have some form of Jedi powers. Typically you wait to be greeted and then eventually get someone to get the host/hostess to seat you. While sitting you typically must wait at least ten minutes for someone to bring you water, then another ten or so to take your drink and food order, and then more time to simply receive your meal.
Second, One World's food remains good, but not spectacular. Presentation remains brilliant with properly placed garnishes and spices. Flavor, consistency, and temperature are also well done. Yet, the food lacks a wow factor that many individuals search for in such an environment. The establishment's prices remain fairly steep for portions of food that do not match up.
Finally, the restaurant seems to suffer from an identity crisis. I absolutely adore the walls and "hippie, fair trade" feel of One World, but it appears the restaurant is caught between trying to be a great place for a date and a wonderful place to study. Regulars frequent the place, but then One World attempts to push their business to more upscale clientele.
Overall, I will continue to eat at One World occasionally, but probably will not make it into a weekly event or even a "special" event. If you really enjoy the place, then befriend the servers to ensure great service that remains quick. As for me, I will just continue to make sure I do not have to be anywhere particular for fear of being late.
New to Peoria/Bradley? Â Great place for a date, or just a nice lunch out. Â A new remodel brought in a new bar, and moved the kitchen to an adjacent storefront. Â Local artists showcase exhibits and works that are for sale. Â Definite artsy atmosphere, cool vibe, great service.
My favorites: Â Breakfast, go for the the Original Eggs Alexander. Â For lunch, try the Cuban Pork sandwich with baked fries or veggies. Â The hummus is the absolute best i've had anywhere, but they hardly give you enough pita bread to go along with it.
To drink, try a chocolate pepsi. Â If you don't like it, you can send me a hate message.
