What a disaster of a place.
I was here a few weeks ago for dinner & will never come back. Â We got there around 7pm, sat down and ordered beer. Â We waited a long time for the waitress to return so we could order food. Â And finally when she came, she said, "I just want to let you guys know that we're changing our menu, and there's some things on the menu we don't have today." Â She pulls out a list. Â "We don't have wings, chicken strips, veggie burgers, crabcakes, shrimp, or anything with pork." Â .
I KID YOU NOT. Â THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
I was an idiot for not leaving right then and there! Â They should put a sign on their door saying half their menu was missing! Â However we were waiting a long time already, still drinking our beers, and we were starving. Â We ordered burgers, which It took forever to come out, and throughout the night the waitress was not checking on us. Â We had to keep flagging her down.
AWFUL PLACE. Â WILL NEVER GO BACK, which is a shame because I live right down the street.
Take this review with the following disclaimer: I was here with some people after attending the funeral of one of our friends.
And now I regret celebrating his life in a place like this.
Not that it's this bar's fault. That's the kind of place it is, and we should have gone somewhere else. But, for cheap beers (and a decent selection, considering) it was OK. Grilled cheese was American cheese on white bread. Menu says there's an option for bread and cheese, but I didn't get one. Over salted potato chips, very much so. When the bartender was clearing our plates I grabbed the last chip for a friend (we hadn't eaten much all day), only to get an eye roll (yes I did see that).
Mozz sticks actually were not that bad. Not too crowded for a Sunday afternoon, so that meant quick service, which was typically pretty good. I can't say that I would come here in the evening, for fun, but because I don't live in this part of Philly (or Philly at all) I don't have to make that decision.
Hey Shanda, I should have listened to you in the first place. I got the impression as soon as I walked in that Muhammed Ali & Joe Frazier were going to attack. It appeared to be a fighting place. I didn't feel comfortable at all. I just drank beer because I heard they "water-down" the drinks from a guy on here named Dean. Thanks Dean for the heads-up my friend by-the way~ & with what you're paying for mixed drinks now-a-days, I'd figured their not going to rip me off.
I didn't eat there because of the other reviews that were posted here on this website. It didn't appear to be older-people friendly. That's just my opinion. You, on the other hand, appear to be a few years' younger than me but I agree with what you said about the place too Shanda. I back you up 100%. Thanks again for the warning.
In Philly anyhow, there's a bar in Philly just about every 50 feet or so.
I'm sure I'll be able to find another waterng-hole in the very near future.
So, too my new friends: Dean & Shanda, thanks for the tips & keep -on-chuggin'.........LOL !!
I stopped at Paddy Whacks on Comly this afternoon for lunch with a couple other guys.
The layout is primarily a bar with tables scattered around the edges. Being more of a bar than a pub it was pretty empty as would be expected on a Tuesday.
Since we were going back to work we were just eating and not drinking.
The food was pretty decent as far as pub food goes. The menu is a little fuller than most pubs menus, having all the pub staples and then some Irish style dishes.
We started off with some wings, which were OK. They had a good amount of flavor and were average sized. We ordered hot but they didn't have a lot of heat to them.
For lunch I got a cheesesteak. Like the wings it was OK, if you're looking for a good cheesesteak you can do better.
The service was very good. There was only one waitress working, but she did a good job keeping track of us. The food came out quickly.
In conclusion Paddy Whacks wasn't the greatest pub I've ever gone into for lunch but there was certainly nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't hesitate to stop there again if I were looking for somewhere quick to grab lunch.
I went to Paddy Whacks for the first time for Lisa M's birthday. It was Friday night and the bar wasn't crowded. The music varies but requests can be put in to fit your style.
Some of our friends had trouble picking a drink. Everything they asked for Paddy Whacks simply didn't have. It was hard to believe but we eventually found our drink of choice.
We went again on Saturday night and it was a completely different experience. The dance floor was crowded and the DJ was annoying. He kept making announcements over the loud speaker and making fun of people.
I still had fun on both days and will go again.
