Im a fan of the sister restaurant on Bethel Road, so I was excited to see all the advertising that they were doing to promote their new restaurant on Hamilton. I was even more excited to see that they put sushi on their menu too! I stopped in on a weekday afternoon, the place was empty, and the two workers there were watching tv at the bar. They cheerfully sat us on the (sparsely decorated) patio and we went to go put in an order for sushi and the server informed us that they tore out their sushi bar last month.... because their sushi chef quit.... and also because they never really wanted to put sushi on the menu anyway.... what a let down!
Im not a fan of the "americanized" chinese food (you know what I'm talking about- kung pao, mongolian, the same salty thing every time) so I wasn't keen on eating lunch there... we just got the pu pu platter. The crab rangoon was GREAT by the way. Lots of filling. But not great enough that would make me want to come back a second time.
I'm still looking for a reasonably priced Asian restaurant that has something other than the standard cookie-cutter fare. Â This still isn't it.
My mother and I came here for carry-out last night. Â The service was great. Â They were friendly and because we stopped in another store while we were waiting, they actually brought it outside to us when they saw us walking up to pick it up.
But the food wasn't very good at all.
Thai Chicken Curry - I was really excited about this as I love Thai Curry, but it wasn't anything like I was expected. Â From the appearance I would say it was a yellow curry but it was watery. Â The menu said it was spicy but it wasn't at all and I had to add more chilies myself. Â The chicken was mushy to the point where my mom mistook it for dumplings and wondered where the chicken was.
Vegetable Mu Shu - It was OK but the pancakes were dry and already stuck together by the time we got home.
Potstickers - These tasted pretty bland and were on a bed of shredded lettuce that was wilted and brown. Â Pretty unappetizing. Â I had to throw the lettuce out so as not to ruin my appetite!
We also got an order of crab rangoon, steamed rice, and fried rice which were also OK, but lacked taste.
Guess I will continue on my search for a good-tasting, Asian take-away restaurant.
Sunday night I got carry out for dinner. This place is just down the road from where I live. I was glad there was another Asian place to choose from in the area. It is very nice, simply decorated, but to me it is just OK.
The prices are about the same as the other places but what I got, Tung Ting, was basically chicken and vegetables in a white sauce with steamed rice. It was good but sort of bland. I also got the won-ton soup and egg roll. The soup good broth, 3 tasty won-ton, but no shallots or meat strips like other places. The egg roll made my stomach hurt, was small greasy and not much filling.
I may give this place another try one day to see if something else on menu is to my liking.
