Peg's Pocket

There aren't a lot of bars in Palmetto Bay, or areas to go that are open past 10 pm. Peg's Pocket is, but is also a bit hidden. Down 156th on the back side of a strip mall, the pool haul is open pretty much every night. While visiting a fraternity brother who has recently moved to the area, he suggested we head over as Tuesday and Thursday is free beer night.

The second you walk in, you get the sense of the atmosphere - its a pool haul, plain and simple. Yes, there is a juke box, and yes, they do serve food somehow, but most people in side are smoking. While not packed, the place had a steady stream of customers the whole time we were there. We asked the girl behind the bar and she said it was packed Thursdays and Saturdays.

So we rented some balls for a table, got our free drinks (Bud, Miller, or Ice House) and started playing. There were a number of tvs playing the basketball playoffs, a mix of men and women playing, and a lot of cheap beer.

I love this place! Typical pool hall, prices are better than most places. Best nights are Tues, Thurs, and Saturday... free beer with a game of pool, can't say no to that.

Took off a point for 2 things, the smoke gets pretty bad sometimes. I'm not hating on the smokers, but when 80% of people are smoking indoors it gets a little much. I can't go there with my hair down because it will stink of cig smoke until i wash it.

2nd thing is, people obviously do not come here for the food but it would be nice to have a decent option of choices. The menu is deceiving, I ordered a basket of fries once and I saw them grab a bag of microwaveable fries and literally it was maybe 15 fries in total lol.

Irregardless... its still an awesome place to hang out and play some pool! just don't order any food lol

I've been here twice now on a Tuesday and Thursday and it is a great place to go have free beer and pay $5.50/hr for pool. In a city where you can spend too much money going out; this place is great to just sit around with some friends and play pool while spending very little money! The jukebox has a fair selection and isn't too expensive either. The location isn't in the best of spots but if you can fair the drive, you're bound to have a good time!
