You're just piling on the miles along the Speedway here--either to or from the ferry, or maybe dealing with a long commute. This place is on the way to somewhere else, and the strip malls start to get pretty repetitive. There's nothing that would make you expect that there's a serious and adventurous little wine bar with some culinary background in evidence in the kitchen, but that's exactly what Piazza's is. They seem to have cultivated a little retinue of regulars, and deservedly so for sure.
Plenty of parking. Inside, it's on the small side, but that's alright. Maybe 12 tables and a few stools at the bar. Couple of bartenders, small unisex bathroom back through the kitchen. The wine list is short but exactingly edited--two or three examples each for 8 or so reds and 8 or so whites. The tenders know exactly what to recommend for every taste, and they pull from all over the west coast and the rest of the world. They do a great job of pulling in good wines from wineries you've never heard of.
The food is a similarly expert survey from appetizers through soup, salad, entrees, and dessert. They mix it up a lot, and always offer fairly adventurous stuff that not everybody else does well. Prices are fair, and service is super friendly and sweet. There's everything to like about this place.
When you arrive a piazza's be ready for a very interesting layout. This is a very small place, where you walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. This small setting actually led to amazing customer service. We started out dinner with a bottle of wine. Â The selection was fairly limited for a wine bar, and there really was not much for higher end bottles but the pricing was fantastic. We then went with a Cesar salad. Hard to mess up a Cesar salad, but this one was great. They did not soak the salad in dressing and just drizzled it leaving the greens to speak for themselves. My wife and I both loved this. Next I had the scallop and shrimp with diablo sauce. I highly recommend this! The sauce was flavorful with a perfect kick. All around we loves Piazza's and plan on returning shortly. I would suggest reservations as the place is small and fills up quick.
Review Source:Ambiance: nice and fun for girls happy hour. Â Not loud but didn't feel like we needed to whisper
food: just ok... Salads were good and cheese plate were good but kind of pricey for amount you get
Convenience: this was my biggest complaint. Don't open for HH til 5pm which seems late but food is not available until 5:30pm. Â Dint skip lunch and exoect a quick snack!
Bathrooms... Have to walk through kitchen to get to it. Â Not the best set up by any means. Â
I'd recommend wine 101 down the road...
if you want a small , intimate, classy place....... this is it.
first off Chef Moh is amazing, you will love every dish he creates, and his soups???? this man is an artist
the owner is knowledgeable and her staff is friendly and ready to serve.
i highly recommend this restaurant for a casual night, romantic "date night" or fun with friends.
My husband and I decided to check this place out for a VERY early dinner. Â I have written this review by named and numbered bullet points:
Here we go:
1. TABLES: Â One word: Sticky. Â We sat at a few different tables as the first one was sticky AND wobbly. Â The second table was an improvement as it was just sticky. Â
You've had all day to clean your tables; why are they sticky? Â They even looked sticky when we walked into the restaurant.
I mean there is sticky and then there is sticky-from-a-distance sticky. Â Both are bad, one is worse.
2. FEEDING TIME: The restaurant opens at 5:00pm but the chef doesn't get there until 5:30pm. Â There is literally NO ONE in the kitchen...who is did the prep work? Â Schwans?
I just want to say that perhaps this was a fluke, but it seemed like this was a normal thing. Â The waitress acted like this was a normal occurrence and the place smelled of gas because the server had JUST fired up the stoves.
3. HAPPY HOUR: Â The Happy Hour menu for food and drinks states: 5:00pm-7:00pm. Â Food is not available until 5:30pm (due to the whole lack of a chef thing).
4. CONFUSED SERVER: Â When we walked in the server said "May I help you"? Â "Uhhhhhh....yeah, is this a restaurant? We'd like to eat at your restaurant? Is this a restaurant"?
Wait, is that confused patron? Â Well whatever, one of us was confused.
5. WINE PRICES: Â Some of their by-the-glass prices are just ridiculous. I mean, $18 for a glass of Veuve Clicquot? Â
They had wine on the menu that I know go for $15.00 a bottle and they were selling for $50.00.
6. SMALL PLATES = NOT SO SMALL: Â Their small plates are HUGE. Â They are the same portion size as their "Big" plates. Â
7. Â PRESENTATION: There was no panache.
When I order ravioli I don't expect it to look like something was shot and then my meal was placed on top of it. Â Well, not for $18.00 I don't (but that is the next point). Â It also could have looked like something was shot from a distance and the blood spatter ended up on my plate (sorry for being so graphic, just watched a bunch of Dexter).
I think they were going for the rustic look but, it just looked, well...HUGE...and shot at.
8. Â MENU PRICES: Â Pricey. Â
After seeing the size of the small plates I can understand why they were priced the way they were. Â
The entrees were pricey for what we received. Â Like $18.00 for a plate of vegetarian ravioli. Â Also, I think I can feel confident in saying these were not house-made.
The special was an arugula salad for $15.00. Â Was the arugula harvested by Unicorns?
8. I WILL NOW WRITE SOMETHING NICE: The caprese salad was pretty good and at first I thought pricey, but it was HUGE.
9. Â I WILL NOW COUNTER MY NICE COMMENT WITH CYNICISM: It is a caprese salad, if you mess that up you have real problems.
10. Â ITALIAN RESTAURANTS SHOULD KNOW HOW TO DO PASTA: If you are an Italian restaurant and especially one trying to be upscale, then at least have good pasta.
Please don't give me "Luigiano's-all-you-can-eat-pasta-bar" pasta (no offense Luigiano).
It doesn't have to be complicated. Â Pasta does not always have to be in heavy sauces...and Carbonera is not supposed to be in a heavy sauce (just a little tip from me to you Piazza's). Please, at least, cook it properly.
This place would get 2.5 stars if:
-No sticky tables
-My pasta wasn't undercooked
-My husband's carbonara wasn't weighed down with 20 pounds of sauce
-The chef was at the restaurant for opening (there is something disconcerting when you get there before the chef)
3 stars if:
-The above happened (see 2.5 stars)
-It didn't smell like the whole place was gonna blow when we walked in
-The prices were reflective of the type of food and the quality of food we received
-Umm, again the sticky tables really hurt their score
WHY can't we have a cute little Italian Bistro in the Suburbs? Â I mean don't most of us live out here? Â Why is our food so sub-par? Â Sub-parbia....ha ha.
Great wine and delicious cheese plate! The waitress was really sweet and her wine knowledge was impressive. A friend and I got to sample a few different types based on her recommendation and they were all good. I ordered a glass that I hadn't expected to like. Highly recommend Piazza Wine Bar for a quiet place to dine and chat.
Review Source:Classiest joint in Mukilteo, by far. Â Piazza's has always been friendly, fun and delicious! Â I've always received exceptional service. Â And it's not an uncommon tale to meet new friendly faces.
I've learned just about everything I know about wine from here. Â Flights of wine, wine tastings, wine dinners, ever-evolving wine menu... it's pretty awesome.
I won't admit to craving wine [what would that say about me?], but I can appreciate that I crave Chef Moh's cooking. Â You gotta go back to the kitchen and chat with him... funny guy.
I'm going to list off my favorites and I think ought to have a go at it.
Campuget Rosé
Torres Cabernet Sauvignon
Bruschetta
Salmon Ceviche
Clam Linguini
Beef Tenderloin
Chocolate Torte
Enjoy!
Amazing!!! One of the very happiest places in Muk!!! Had a fabulous tomato Basil pizza for FREE!!! Turns out it is a promotion EVERY Friday and Saturday free pizza with the purchase of a bottle of wine after 9 p.m. How great is that??? And if pizza isn't your thing, Mo's soups are phenomenal!!
Oh and did I mention the wine??? Exceptional selection no matter what type of wine you desire. Admittedly I am usually a red wine girl, but have learned to appreciate a nice riesling (try the Kung Fu Girl).
If you have no wine knowledge, no worries ask your server or Darlene, the owner, for suggestions.
Short answer --- Love it and you will too!!!
Every time we go to Piazza's we love it. Â They're one of the gems of Mukilteo. Â The owner is usually there and her staff is attentive and classy. Â The chef always remembers us and comes out to shake hands and say hello. Â We usually choose something from the specials board knowing that it will be special. Â We enjoy sitting up at the bar so we can chat with other wine sipping 35 and over locals and the staff. Â There's a whole lot to like about Piazza's.
Excellent food, excellent wine, excellent people.
Good news: the food was good! We ordered the bruschetta, clams, and tenderloin crostini! All very pleasing, well-priced, and good portions size. The bread came out warm which I always like. Although I do want to mention that the bread was a little on the soggy side from the balsamic vinegar.
The not-so-good: When we came in, we were not acknowledged at all. Are we ok to seat ourselves? Do we need to wait for someone to show us to our seats? Are u just gonna barely glance our way with not even a hello? The service was lackluster and we just didn't feel very welcomed so it's doubtful we'll be back :(
You can't beat their bruschetta. It can be a meal in itself. They always have wonderful soups, too. Very gourmet. Great wine selection and there is a good price range in case you don't feel like spending a lot. Its a romantic little place me and my husband like to go to. Really nice staff. Even the guys in the kitchen smile and wave.
Review Source:One of my favorite spots in the area! Staff is always really friendly, and the food is outstanding. A smaller menu ensures the chef really knows how to execute those dishes and maintains high quality standards. The fresh seafood and pasta are some of my personal favorites. When I come in I'll usually just order a bunch of their GREAT appetizers and share with friends.
Wine selection is just okay, nothing really choice or super rare, but they do have half price glass night (no, I'm telling what night) so you are able to sample many different selections without putting too large a hole in your finances.
As I said before, I will keep coming back as long they maintain the small restaurant feel and keep churning out wonderful food.
I've been to the Wine Bar many a time with my parents and their friends. Â Although I don't think I've ever purchased my own food or drink here, I know it's rather pricy. It's also a pretty small place, which is great for the intimacy and not so great for, oh, fitting lots of people inside. Â
My first experience with the Wine Bar was actually eating a catered meal. Long story short, we had a meal catered by Piazza's (which we only ever refer to as "the Wine Bar") for Christmas one year and it was quite good - fettucini alfredo, chicken, and I can't recall what else. Since then, I've tasted a few of Tracey's dishes - the hummus & pita they serve is to die for, and the bruschetta is pretty amazing as well. I most recently went to the Wine Bar for a private party, and unfortunately the pasta they served was way too spicy for me to handle, but I could tell it would be good if I liked spiciness.
It seems to be the hangout for the swanky fortysomethings of Mukilteo, but I've seen some younger people and no one has ever looked at me strangely for being so young. Sometimes there is live music, sometimes there isn't. I also find the bathroom situation a little strange - you have to go through the kitchen to use the restroom - but aside from that, it's not a bad little place.
My chef friend had been wanting me to try this place for awhile, so we had a great idea, we would park at Piazza's, walk the 4 mile Harbor Point loop and then settle back in for some good food and wine on their half price pour night (I'm not telling you which night that is, it was already crowded)!
Let me just get this out of the way, and say our waiter was so cute, not in an adorable way, but in a hot way.
So two of my friends ordered the Tenderloin Crostini and Beef Tenderloin with Mashed Potatoes and me and the chef ordered the antipasto plate and calamari and tenderloin crostini. Â You could cut the tenderloin with a fork, it was excellent. Â And the calamari was really good - it was spicy though so if you can't take the heat...
The antipasto plate was weird, a lot of the stuff on it had been pickled, which apparently is the new trend. Â I couldn't eat it, so my friend said, let's send it back!!!! Â Hold the phone, this is not something I normally do and I was scared - she said the chef will probably hate us. Â I was more afraid someone was going to spit in our food! Â I guess I should stop frequenting cheap food joints. Â Anyway, there didn't appear to be any problems and the cute waiter was really gracious and great at deflecting any anger spewing from the chef.
Needless to say, we have decided to make this our...oops, I almost said what night, our weekly ritual to go on half price pour night. Â Really great if you are new to wine and want to try a lot of different types.
P.S. Â We really were underdressed in our sweats....
Sandwiched in between a Hallmark store and Taco Del Mar, Piazza's Wine Bar transcends its inferior surroundings to evoke the relaxed, sophisicated feel of an authentic vineyard. This place is classy enough to go with your parents (or a date) and sample wines from around the world, as well as some tastefully displayed dishes. The portions are small, but it's perfect for a light, leisurely meal. The regular weekend crowd are local forty-somethings but there are younger, hipper couples in the bar as well. Its intimate environment is a double-edged sword - on the one hand its a nice spot for a low-key evening but it also fills up early.
