Absolutely the worst tasting pizza in Norfolk. For the life of me, I can't understand why anybody would put this on par with Andy's or Granby Street Pizza. Even Regino's, which is a shell of its former Wards Corner self, is hands down a better tasting pie with better toppings. Their pizza tastes like cardboard. The sauce has no flavor, the dough tastes like they buy it frozen. And the toppings pre-packaged blandness. I tried them once when I was high school. Gave them another try in my late 20's. And recently was swayed by a lady friend who swears by their pizza to give them another try. Completely underwhelmed each and every time. Nothing has change one bit, still as bad as I remembered.

Good stuff from this place today. I had a speaking engagement and was responsible for bringing lunch so I called in at 10:50 to place an order for two medium pizzas to pick up at 11:30. I rolled in at 11:15, pulled out the laptop to get some quick emails out and by 11:25 my pizza was ready.

My group of 10 ate away and left me about four slices. That left me an afternoon of Yelp work on the laptop enjoying the pizza that I always enjoy.

Take note: their pies aren't circular... They're rectangular and are pretty phenomenal.

The restaurant has also gone through some serious renovation and looks great. My preference is to hang out on the restaurant side since smoking is allowed in the bar area.

It's always a treat to come back to my stomping ground.

went there one day last week. the only other guest inside was leaving so it was me and my dining companion. was told to sit anywhere so we grabbed a table and waitress gave us our menu and took our drink orders. about 3 min later she cameback and asked if we were ready to order which we did . I ordered a burger and it came with fries. My guest ordered a med pizza that came with salad. they served his salad appx 5 min later. was surprised to see pepperoni in a salad but he said it was good. then another guest came in and he sat at the bar. he ordered then they had a phone order and was told there order would be ready in 20 min. so the guest who ordered at the bar recieved his food..finished off his food and and paid then left. the phone order comes in and picks up there food. Guess what i still have not had my order yet. Waitress told me when the guy at bar order came out mine would be out very soon, Anyhow  45 min later still no food i ask for the check i just want to pay for our drinks. which should of been compt for the long wait but i still was charged. Then all of sudden the waitress stated that our meal is ready do i want it to go at a discounted rate. I politely told them that ya'll can keep im finished here. Never again will i go there and its ashame cause i really do love their burger.

Been a while since I dined in here. Since my last visit they have done some additional remodeling on the restaurant side. The counter in the back has been completely redone and looks outstanding. I noticed the back wall also has a kinda rock like finish on it now too. It looks good.

We were  a group of 3 on this visit and I went with a medium pepperoni pizza. My companions had had a cheese steak and fried chicken sandwich. The cheese steak comes on a steak platter and fills it from side to side. Not quite as big as it used to be but still a large and impressive sandwich. The same can be said for the fried chicken breast sandwich. It also comes on a steak platter. Half of it is the sandwich while the other half is loaded with steak fries. Pictures included.

Last but not least my pie... The pizza here is truly unique. Made with a thin crust on a cookie sheet and slices are cut in squares. One of the best pizza's Hampton Roads for sure.

As always the food was cooked to perfection. That's why this is one of the very few places I go to that consistently gets a 5 star review. They're that good IMOP. Check them out!

Was all excited for a great pizza while on the road......well not so good.  Will not go back or recommend.  Chain such as dominos or papa johns would have been the better choice but can get those anywhere.

Very tasty pizza. They've got a lunch special if you eat-in (not sure if you can order this to-go), where you get 2 any-topping small pizzas for the price of 1. Add 2 side salads & you can enjoy very tasty eats for less than $15, and that's including a very healthy tip.

The waitress was a bit skittish, but polite & helpful.

So after all the glowing reviews this place went on the short list.

Left work tonight and when my wife asked where I wanted to go, my mind immediately flashed to Joe D's recent bacon cheeseburger pic / description and off we went.

Cool place, very friendly, comfortable.  Definitely has that feel of a place that has a loyal and steady customer.

It does seem strange to have had one of the best bacon cheeseburgers I've had from a place called Pizza Chef, it was nothing crazy, Just a good, straight up burger, but the chopped bacon under the cheese is the right way.

My wife had the same (half is still in the fridge for my lunch tomorrow) but she had the onion rings, which did get her seal of approval.  "You can taste the beer"

Speaking of beer, always a bonus for having Yuengling on tap.

Now I have to get back in and try the pizza!

My husband and I tried to eat here last Friday night and there weren't any parking spots so we had to have Zero's next door. (there's addtl parking out back that we missed first time). So I decided to give it a try on an off day/off hour. And it was worth the wait. I had the small supreme pizza (Tuesday's special-buy 1 small get 1 free) with pepperoni, onions, shrooms, sausage & green peppers) and let me say, it was worth the wait. The pizza was small but I was full after 3 pieces. I don't know if it was the light, crispy crust, lotta cheese or that it was super hot but that pizza is in my top 5! My waitress was super nice and friendly, the place was quiet and clean and I'll definitely go back. Oh, another daily special is the 12oz ribeye & shrimp for 9 bucks. Can't beat surf & turf for that price.

I love using yelp to find new places. So, when i typed in my address and then pizza (when i lived in Norfolk) this place was the first one to pop up. It had good reviews and since i was acquainting myself with the neighborhood, my roommate and i figured what the heck, why not?

We walked into the restaurant and ordered a basic pepperoni pizza...we waited, looked at the walls and posters they have hung up and then it arrived. It was cut into squares and looked heavenly, which it was. I can't describe how good this pizza was! We were hooked already...now for the best part:

we had ordered a pitcher of beer and the waitress brought us a half pitcher because she said they had to swap out the keg, she said she'd give us the other half when the new one was tapped, with a mouth full of pizza we nodded and grunted back. Within five minutes she comes back with another full pitcher!.... What?.... Amazing pizza and technically *free beer?          I love you pizza chef was all i could think!

My roommate and i looked at each other and we knew we'd be coming back. We did: about twice a week, every week for the 8 or so months that i lived there... especially once we figured out on our second trip that they had an actual bar area. The bar was a good size complete with another room where they have corn hole, dancing, darts and a pool table. They have an event of some sort almost every night of the week. Truly a neighborhood bar with some darn good pizza!

This is a great place for pizza.  Being that its locally owned, i like it even more.  It's been a local staple for as long as I can remember.  friends used to work there when we were in high school, parents went there to eat way back when, etc.
ordered a pizza for takeout recently and i was very happy as always.  the sauce and the crust of the pizza is great and the toppings are cooked well.  i hate when you get a pizza and when you pick up a slice the ingredients slide off  the face of it.  i don't know why but i blame the super thick crust at some places.  there is something to be said about a good thin crust pizza.  i would say pizza chef's crust is thin, but not like super thin where your basically eating cheese on a water cracker.  i think people feel like thin crust pizza doesn't give way to flavorful dough since its more crispy and less bread like.  give this pizza a try and see how you like it.
place was empty on a Sunday night when i arrived to pick up my pie.  staff was friendly and i was on my way home.

I have a love/hate relationship with this restaurant.  We frequent this pizza joint/bar at least twice a week.  My parents have pictures of me in a high chair eating in there and now I have pictures of my son eating in there too.  It doesn't get much more classic than this.

They have a family friendly, non-smoking side and they also have the bar side that you can still smoke in.  On the bar side there are a couple of pool tables and lots of flat screen tvs.

The waitstaff is always friendly.  They all know us by name and treat us great.  The kitchen even knows my son's "regular" (fries) and starts them as soon as we come through the door.  The owners, on the other hand, I could take or leave.  My family has been going here for over 20 years and they still don't recognize us.  The owner's wife actually came over to us in the bar recently and said "oh, it's so great to see new faces in here!"

It is a great place to go and eat with your family.  The food is good.  The pizza is awesome.  You will not find pizza anywhere else like this.  There is something for everyone on the menu and it is decently priced, although I wish they ran more specials.

We go over to the bar side quite a bit.  Drinks are good, but a little over priced for domestics and wells.  The Miller Lite draft seems to always be conveniently out of order which means we have to pay per bottle.  The bartenders are always great.  They are quick and friendly and they always make time to chat a little.  The weekend bar crowd tends to be a little younger, but during the week it's just your good ol' Norfolk folks in there.  It's a great place to just relax.

I would definitly recommend checking it out!  As much as I bicker about it I still love it and will probably spend a lot more time there.

Pizza Chef is definitely a staple of the Bayview area... they recently did some remodeling and updated their booths, but the food's still the same great pizza and entrees as ever!  We love the salads- and frequently split a pizza.  Other menu items are good and they make pretty decent drinks as well.  Service has always been good, and we love "our" local pizza hang out.

The Good: Full bar, inexpensive, good service, late hours

The Bad: Location (there are better parts of town), limited parking

I live in the Philly area these days, but every 3-4 months I venture back to the Virginia Beach area and I almost always meet up with my brother for a late night pizza and a pitcher. The restaurant is divided in half with more of a bar on one side and the eat in area on the other.

The pie is thin crust, rectangular in shape with a flavorful sauce, and cut into squares. I get a standard pepperoni most times that is both tasty and delicious. The God Father (think Pizza Hut meat lovers) pizza is also a fine choice for those who need to feed their inner carnivore. A full Italian menu is provided but I've never wanted to stray away from the apps and pizza. The beer is cold!

Service has always been good, but I've never been in before 10 PM so there haven't been many other customers to get in the way.

For a good pie that is a nice change of pace from all the standard NY style pizza I highly recommend Pizza Chef.
