Interesting menu, great selections of beers, bourbons & scotches. Â Dark atmosphere, a little loud, would be good for a date. Â I was with a group. Im pretty sure our waitress wanted us dead, but whatever. Â The portabella fries were amazing..Ive never had portabellas fried like this...dipping sauce, yes. Â baked brie with bourbon cranberry compote on top, or something. Â The Bloody mary was real good. you can get Threesomes (3 sampler of bourbons, or single malts etc)
Outdoor tables too
known for their burgers (we didn't get any)
You know those days when you really just want a juicy burger to relish in?
I've had a few of those lately since becoming a meat-eater again, and let me tell you, this place is the one besides Five Guys that really makes me so happy that I decided to start eating meat again. I go for the mushroom burger (this weekend I had it with caramelized onions, portabella spread and swiss cheese). Delicate delicious meat, fluffy rolls, hmm give me more!
I have eaten at Plan B numerous times throughout the years. There food has always been consistently great, and they have such a wide selection of beers to choose from. Every time I have gone to Plan B in West hartford there service is always fast and friendly. You do many times have to wait a while to get a seat but they always try to be accommodating to their customers.
Review Source:I had the blue cheese burger, the portions were larger than I expected. You know when a burger is made out of good meat it has this kind of loose texture to it. That is what I experienced here. The quality of the burger was very nice. I did think the sauce on the blue cheese burger masked the flavor of the blue cheese a bit. It seemed like a BBQ sauce of some sort.
It is a little spendy for a burger but it was a darn nice burger. I would go back.
I absolutely love plan B. This is always the place we go when we are stomped on not knowing where to go.. everyone ends up deciding to go to Plan B. * Honestly I think it should be called Plan A :)
The Burgers are always great!! Not sure what it is that they season them with but I know I have never tasted any burger like at Plan B.  and my kypronite FRIES! How  I love their fries. Perfectly crunchy outer layer with a nice soft center.
The only downside to this location is the size of the place. It's so popular yet so TINY! The wait for a table usually stretches to an hour (Thursday- sat. ) Â and the bar area gets so tight. Â They just opened up a patio so its nice they have additional seating outside but only in the summer months and then back to cram city when it rains or becomes cold.
If you aren't patient this may not be the place to come to during the weekend.
I've eaten at Plan B in Springfield near work. It is a gorgeous restaurant and the food is superb. I'm not quite sure I've had ground beef in a burger that was so flavorful and moist - even cooked well done.
Today, we took friends in from Texas to the West Hartford location near my house. The food was amazing and they were in awe of beef. Â
One person had the double meat, double cheese heart-attack inducing burger and proclaimed it the best he's had. The other two had the Blue Cheese burger and a Hawaiian burger special with mango chutney. There were no scraps on their plates and big smiles on their faces.
I had my usual Baja burger that comes with a chipotle spread and fresh sliced jalapeno peppers. The server forewarns you that it's incredibly "spicy" which is good for a lot of people. I'm from Louisiana and used to food with a mighty kick and this even makes me take a deep breath occasionally. It hurts so good! If you love hot, spicy food, it's a must.
Service was phenomenal.
The only one small complaint about the West Hartford location is the door into the kitchen. We were seated in the booth at the very back near the kitchen door. It had the loudest squeak and was literally every 10 seconds. We had to ask to be moved and were given a booth at the front that was perfect. With everything else in the place scoring a solid 10, please buy some WD40 or get someone to adjust the door. It's ridiculously loud, guys.
If you want a casual meal with great service, seriously good food and a huge selection of drinks, this is the place for you.
This place was in demand on a Wed night in May - clearly it's popular. Â We didn't mind waiting for a table because my friend really liked this place and we could wait at the bar. Â Everyone was very friendly, staff and other patrons. Â Joe the bartender makes an awesome filthy martini and has a very engaging personality, so the wait time went quickly. Â The restaurant would do themselves a favor to make sure they keep him around. Â We were seated and served by a very busy but very friendly server. Â The menu was fun to choose from and we got burgers and fries and a serving of onion rings to share. Â The food didn't come as fast as some like it to come but it wasn't unreasonable considering the place was packed and we each had a drink to enjoy (the drinks are pretty good) and good conversation. Â The food came and it was pretty good. Â I like the fact that they have so many options on the menu and the carb servings aren't over-the-top ridiculous like in some places. Â They focus on quality more than quantity, it appeared. Â As for price, it's not the cheapest place to eat, but it's definitely not unreasonable for the quality of the food and the service. Â And clearly, many people agree judging by the popularity of the place. Â I would definitely go back.
Review Source:As with many of my outings, I have been here only for their drinks! ;)
But, it was a beautiful Friday night, and I figured I'd finally see what all the rave was behind their burgers. Let me tell you, WOW - what a menu. I started off with the baked jalapeño poppers (which I must say is hands down the best poppers I've ever had)
I had talked to two of the bartenders to see what their "Top 3" burgers were. They undoubtedly recommended the "Special" Burger. Which essentially is their verified humane beef burger on whole wheat bun with bacon-infused jam smothered with peanut butter. Man, those guys didn't disappoint because the combination of the sweet bacon-jam and salty peanut butter was awesome.
I had followed the awesome-ness with more awesome! An allagash white and a smuttynose old brown dog ale (quite delicious)
My date had their spicy steak salad, and the Manhattan which she was very pleased with.
Parking is fair, crowd was awesome - if you're looking for a low-key spot to chill out and have a good time with good music CHECK IT
Plan B has a nice ring to it, but after my experience, it really is Plan B as I would not go back to it as my Plan A. Â First, parking is limited to the street only, so if you're lucky to find a spot, then that's great. Â If not, then that sucks. Â If you're lucky to get a table since there are no reservations, then that's great. Â If not, then that sucks even more because you may had just spent a lot of time looking for parking.
Anyway, onto the food. Â I only had the trio of lobster sliders, which came layered on top of a whole lot of fries! Â The sliders were good, but not really worth the ~16 bucks. Â There was also a large piece of shell left in one of the sliders, which left a bad impression on me. Â The sea of fries were so-so - sad to say, I'd prefer McDonald's fries.
Our second trip to plan b was every bit as delicious as the the first time. We can say that the 3shrooms and baja burgers are excellent. We ordered them 'pink', and while suitably good and juicy I do prefer my burgers more rare so we wish that was an option. But the fries and pickle were presented on a pleasing simple plate and everything was great. The raw cut halopenos in the baja were quite 'fresh'. Â We sat outside and the friendly waitstaff offered our dog a bowl of water. Lively and fun atmosphere for a saturday night.
Review Source:Went here for St. Patrick's Day. Â The seating availability wasn't there. However, they did have a paging system and I did not have to wait long. I killed about 15 minutes at the bar, where I was served the flattest Guinness I ever had. My waitress was nice and polite. I ordered the blue cheese burger with sweet potato fries, which were very good. The atmosphere was good. except for a loud mouth college kid at the next table talking about himself non-stop while his 3 friends never spoke. You know the type. Plan B was just that a plan b to other plans.
Review Source:I love Plan B West Hartford, my girlfriend and I go here once a week, it's one of our favorite spots in the area. The waiting area is a bit small so be prepared, and there is typically a bit of a wait, but I guess that means their popular at least! The service there is always fantastic, really knowledgeable friendly servers. Their appetizers are delicious as well, the baked brie and blue chips especially. Best burgers and beer in CT!
Review Source:A friend and I went to Plan B last night and had a great time! There was a 15 to 20 minute wait, which was totally fine with us because we were able to enjoy some beers at the bar. My friend is a regular at Plan B so all of the employees knew who she was and were very friendly . I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and my friend had the garden salad and both items were great. Our waiter seemed to forget about us for a little bit and kept walking by without giving out table any attention but other than that small situation we had a wonderful time and will definitely go back!
Review Source:I've been to other Plan B's around the state. The others pale in comparison to Plan B in West Hartford! This is the best, hands down. The burgers are always delicious, the beer selection can't be beat, and the staff is beyond amazing. Everyone is so super friendly and they go out of their way to make sure everything's perfect. Even on their busiest nights, they pay close attention to every detail. I refuse to go to other burger places since this is my favorite. John, Mikey, Tucci, Russ, Stephanie and everyone, thank you for making this Plan B absolutely THE BEST!
Review Source:I have eaten in the Milford one several times, but went to West Hartofrd for the first time today. Food quality was amazing, burger obviously fresh and excellent. I had a Bleu burger only with no BBQ and no onions, but with mushrooms bunless. It was excellent. I also had sweet potato fries that when I asked for maple syrup, I wasn't looked at like I had horns. Also had the B Cup for dessert...it was excellent. This location is significantly smaller than the MIlford location, but still a good experience.
Review Source:Even a vegetarian will love this place!!!! The veggie burger is the best I've ever had!!! Salads are great as well as the many choices of sides- The service has always been great, especially Jon the bartender, always willing to explain what's on tap & make recommendations. The restaurant is small & packs in quick on weekends & after work, but it's well worth the wait. Last summer they extended their outdoor seating which is a great spot to sit with a drink. Great service, great food, never disappoints!
Review Source:C and I have only eaten there once and it was a great time! We had a lovely server who was very helpful and patient with us (as C is indecisive).
C ended up order a local beer (Plan B's beer is, apparently, one of the most extensive in the state. The waitress talked with C for a good long while about the beers the restaurant had stocked. C was impressed.) and a West Coast Burger. He absolutely loved his burger and raved about it to all his friends and family. I ordered the Squeeler- yum!! My meat was extremely well-seasoned and juicy. For dessert, we had a seasonal dish (like vanilla wafers with ice cream)... and it was just ok. Nothing special and it was disheartening after such a delicious night of burgers. Ehh, oh well.
I will note that it was so crazy busy when we went on Thursday night. I couldn't even go to the restroom without being shoved by someone at the bar (BOO!).
I met a friend at Plan B in Hartford last night for dinner. The place was packed, but we were seated within five minutes of arriving by a very friendly staff.
For an appetizer, we shared the organic portabella fries. If you haven't tried these, they are a must! The breading that surrounds these thick cut bella wedges is crispy and flavorful, and enhanced by the delicious chipotle ranch they are served with. They also come with a garlic horseradish aioli, but it wasn't garlicky or horserashishy enough for me to forget it was a condiment I normally despise. However, if you're a mayo fan, I bet you'd dig it.
Both my friend and I ordered the homemade veggie burger (minus cheese on mine), Baja style, on a pretzel bun. Be forewarned, you MUST love a crazy amount of heat to be able to weather this burger. The chipotle spread is literally straight chipotles in adobo, and the flavor is amazing! On top of that, there are huge slices of fresh jalapeno atop the lettuce, tomato, and avocado. It's a perfect combo.
The homemade veggie burger is good, but has that squishy texture to it that many black bean burgers are infamous for. It was also enormous. Due to it's size, and the smallish nature of the pretzel bun, it appeared my burger was wearing a fancy pretzel hat. Amusing and kind of awesome. The pretzel bun itself had a fantastic texture that's definitely worth the extra 79 cents.
I ordered a side house salad instead of fries, and I am so glad I did. The house dressing was perfectly oily and tangy, and the lettuce was a much better companion to this already hearty burger than fries would have been. I usually get phenomenal truffle fries when I am at Plan B, but trust me, the veggie burger is a lot to handle, and a salad balances it so well.
Overall, the portion size was generous, and the food delicious. And quite honestly, for the meals we were served, I felt that the pricing was perfectly appropriate. I look forward to my next visit!
I've been on a burger kick on my recent visit to Connecticut (The Counter, Max Burger and now Plan B) and feel I can give a good assessment. To give a fair one of Plan B, I went back a second time solo (I know - a tough life).
BOTH times service was top notch - three servers total who all seemed to really want to provide good customer service, which is rare. I commend them on keeping their spirits up, especially with the table next to me, which was filled with three "Stepford Wives" from West "Haaartford." PLEASE do not get your panties in a bunch (even if you're a guy) and your server doesn't visit your table every two minutes to hold you hand - some of these women (I didn't see any men servers) can really get cooking (ba dum) when the heat's on (thank you, I'll be here all week. Tip your bartenders and try the pâté).
The first time out of the gate, I had the Cheesy Burger (okay, I know I'm forgetting the name, but you'll know it when you see it!). Cheese in the middle, cheese on top. Yes please. The second time I had the Double Burger, which was a massive undertaking - however, for the sake of this review, I finished it.
Both scored HIGH marks for presentation - this is definitely one of those places where you stare at plates meant for other patrons as the servers walk past you. A +, all of them!
My experience with the double burger was not as good as the cheesy one - the patties on the second burger were definitely "reheated" and were unnaturally hot, so much so that I had to wait a good 20 minutes before I could start eating it. Also, that "crust" was starting to form which is what usually happens when hamburgers are pre-cooked and left to cool before being reheated to fill an order.
I love a place that includes fries, and Plan B delivers. To not include fries with a burger is goddamn fascist and should be against the US Constitution.
I love beer, but admittedly. I haven't delved into what looks like a very good selection at Plan B. No, for me, it all about business when I enter a burger bar and/or hotel room - I want maximum consumption without alcohol to soften my bun.
I think four stars is good - however, I plan on returning next week. If the burger is reheated again, I may knock it down a peg. However, if I receive nirvana, I shall, on the words of a not-so-great philosopher, "bump up."
I have been to establishment a bunch of times. Â I have to say it is hit or miss depending on your server. Â During my recent visit, I was there at 12:00PM and it was very quiet. Â It took over 35 minutes to get a burger and fries. Â The burger was dry and not at all what I expected. Â
The services was lack luster at best. Â When I got my food 35 minutes later I asked for a to go box because I had an appointment. Â It took over 10 minutes to get a box. Very disappointed by the service and quality of the food. Â
On the bright side, they have an amazing bar, which I have ordered from in the past. Â In all fairness, I was happy with the quality of the food in the past.
To sum it u, it may be worth a visit to Plan B, just expect the worst and hope for the best.
Cool spot. The burgers are great, as many others have confirmed. Parking is terrible.
Very classy atmosphere, but casual enough to chill out with a glass of wine and some good friends. So, it can get loud in there. That may be a good thing though, it means they are busy and people like it there!
I didn't get that "wow" factor, but still a very cool spot!
Delicious food! I love the buffalo chicken burger. Very flavorful and it has the right amount of spice and does not overwhelm your pallet. Â For more of a kick, try the "insane" heat level. I also enjoyed the music very much. There was a nice variety--something for everyone.
The parking situation wasn't  too bad when I went, but I did have to park on one of the side streets. If possible, I'd like to see a bigger parking lot.
All in all, great place to eat and hang out!
I have reviews on two issues: service and food.
Service: It was great. Â The server was friendly and professional- two things I look for in restaurant service. Â I also appreciated the management who changed TV channels so we could watch a particular basketball game. Â
Food: Subpar.  I asked for truffled fries with parmesan cheese. They came out cold and truffle-less.  The server took them back to add truffle oil, but still.  Getting truffle fires without truffle is like getting a burger without meat.  Also, they looked and tasted like fries from Burger King.  If you don't eat the fries when they're hot, they taste barely mediocre.  I also ordered a burger- rare.  How did the burger come out?  Well done.  This is the problem.  I told the waiter that it was WAY overcooked, and he offered to take back the food.  However, I HATE throwing away food.  I rather eat what I didn't order than have it thrown away.  So I ate  food that I didn't want.  I also think the quality of the meat was not very good, especially in comparison to other local restaurants. Â
I had heard so much about the food here, but I must say that I was disappointed. Â I am not sure I'd go back, given the other options in the area. Â I would like to give Plan B another chance- if someone else pays.
Smaller than the Glastonbury location. About the same size as the Simsbury spot.
Like all Plan B's they refuse to make the sensible decision to write an up to date whisky list. They have a nice selection, if not a tad overpriced, but you'd think they didn't want to actually sell any of it. Unless you have eagle eyes and/or really know your whisky, you may not even realize half of the drinkable goods they have here.
Man, there's something about Plan B where they refuse to cook your fries correctly. If you ask for them well-done there's a 99% chance they'l come out normal. I wonder what the cooks are thinking when they see it on the check.
Watch you bill, too. We ordered a small glass of an expensive rye and were charged $30 (which was what they charge for a heaping "three-finger" pour). We were leaving in a rush but when I asked the bartender on our way out how much it should have cost he was at a loss and couldn't even look it up for me.
Service here was as bad as the parking... which sucks. Drive the extra fifteen and go to Glastonbury if you really must have an unsalted, overpriced burger.
the great:
-The burger. Wow! I've of the best I've had. They cook them a bit differently for other places, but very flavorful and juicy.
-the combinations and toppings. I had cheeseburger sliders, a bacon burger and my favorite, an Apple cider donut bacon cheeseburger. All delicious.
-the sides. The fires are terrific and i got locally sourced veggies last time. Well cooked and delicious.
The good:
- the service. I've had the same waitress all 3 times and she is very nice. The others I've dealt with are also very pleasant.
-very good beer selection
-the chili was very good. I think it was beer infused and it was flavorful without being overpowering.
The bad:
- beer prices are hit or miss but are usually a bit high. The prices on large beer bottles are downright awful.
I highly recommend this place for dinner or lunch!
I am writing an update for some reasons:
1.) I hate seeing that my last review of this place was 1 star, when clearly my overall ratings of this place were 5s at best.
2.) this is my last review of this place. Any more than this, i'd be perceived as a maniac or fanatic.
3.) In my opinion, they make the best burgers.
4.)This place has an ever changing awesome beer selection.
I see that they pride themselves on their beef, beer and bourbon. The service is always exceptional. The bartenders, especially, are one of the nicest, professional, well versed food and drink specialists i've seen in any part of Connecticut. This place provides such a cozy atmosphere that strangers eventually feel welcomed and admired.
That is all. Plan B is awesome.
Case closed
*gavel hits*
Oh plan b. the convenience of being right next to the hookah bar. The burgers are pretty decent, the truffle fries amazing, and the drinks just so-so.
I've had good nights of service and nights where service just didn't exist. Which totally blows the star review for this place. And you can't just sit on the patio and have drinks after 8, only at the bar, and anyone who ever goes here knows that you can't find a seat at the darn bar anyways. Way around that rule is to order a simple appetizer.
I know there are now Plan Bs all around Connecticut, but I've only been to the original. Â I've been coming here since it opened and have tried pretty much everything on the menu. Â It's all delicious. Â All of it.
In addition to the the killer food, they have a great, ever-changing beer selection and play excellent music (90s alternative, thankyouverymuch.) Â It's one of my favorite places in Hartford.
Our Sunday Funday Crew is from the shoreline, so after tubing down the Farmington River, a group of us headed over to Plan B for some eats before heading back down to the shore. Â I was a little nervous b/c we've been to the Milford location a few times with pretty horrible experiences...but we went anyway.
Half of us got there and grabbed a table. Â The upstairs section was packed, but they have a whole lower level which was really cool...so we grabbed this huge 8 person round pub table for all of us. Â (Awesome table) Â
The other half of our crew was about 40 minutes behind us, so we just ordered some drinks and apps to get started. Â We got the stuffed jalepenos...which are so good there (I don't like the normal ones you get that are all fried and filled with grease)...they back them and put some really great ingredients together. Â We also got the mussels...which had an amazing sauce...and I've been craving since that visit.
My husband and I were the dd's...so we weren't drinking that day and opted for Arnold Palmers...which were great there! Â :) Â Everyone else seemed to enjoy their drinks though.
Everyone at the table ordered burgers, and every single burger came out just as ordered. Â We had an amazing server who went way above and beyond and dealt with our crazy friends so gracefully! Â She made sure we had everything we wanted and then some...she just rocked.
We were overall happy with everything here from the food to the service, and are even talking about doing another tubing trip before the end of the summer...which I'm sure after we'll end up back here!
My boyfriend and I met a couple of his friends there a couple of weeks ago. Â I've been to the Glastonbury location and thought it was overrated, and thus, I was a little apprehensive. Â I didn't like my Baja burger I ordered.
This time was different. Â Unlike the Glastonbury visit when we went on a Friday night, we visited the Parkville location on a Saturday afternoon. Â Luck was in our favor that day and we were seated immediately.
I tried the West Coast burger - a burger with a fried egg, avocado & kalamata olive mayo. Â I've always wanted to try an egg on a burger knowing that I wasn't going to get my cholesterol checked. Â It was divine! Â Instead of fries, I had the mixed organic greens on the side and they were good. Â My boyfriend had the truffle fries and I also recommend those as well. Â To wash it down, I had a blueberry beer.
One of the people at the table had gluten issues, but the waitress knew exactly what foods were gluten free and helped her select a meal.
My second Plan B restaurant experience, this time in the diminuitive West Hartford location. Despite the puzzling wait for a table at 1PM on a Saturday afternoon, the meal served was positively on point.
I had the three mushroom burger with truffle fries... I guess that makes four mushrooms? Anyway, if you like mushrooms, this is the way to go. The burger was cooked absolutely perfectly. The bun was bulky, and stood up to that enormous, dripping patty. And the truffle fries were very good. Also to be recommended here are the sweet potato fries and the disco fries, which have cheese and gravy.
I wish I could talk about the non-burger menu, but how can you not order a burger when you're at Plan B BURGER bar? That said, the one peripheral I can comment on is the beer selection. Lots of unique choices, including one called "Sofie" which was an ideal match for the meal provided.
A pretty good value too for the level of service provided. I'd call this a solid mid-level dining atmosphere, but you'll pretty much pay Applebees prices for it.
Its places like this that SHOULD be putting Applebees out of business :).
Tried to go in on a Saturday night, 40 minute wait. Told fiance it wasn't worth it because it was so loud in there that we wouldn't even be able to hear each other. We decided we'd try this place another time when it was less busy.
Next time we went it was at 3, so no crowd or wait. I ordered a burger with pink, there was no pink. The burger tasted like I took some ground beef at home, made a patty with no seasonings, and cooked it a little to long. It was pretty much bland and over done. The fries were similarly bland... I can't say they were bad, but they were so lame tasting. You can get a better burger and fries pretty much anywhere, I even recommend mcdonalds over this place.
We had been trying to go here for months, but are only in the area on Friday nights when the wait is at least an hour. We decided to wait it out yesterday, when to our delightful surprise a table opened up in less than 20 minutes!
The hostess and our server were both very polite, bubbly and courteous.
If you like Pickles and Peppers as much as we do you HAVE to try the pickles and peppers appetizer! It was so good I almost ordered an extra one to go : )
I ordered the Burger Flight (mini samples of classic beef burger, salmon burger, and italian chicken burger) and was very pleased. My fiance ordered the Baja Burger (jalapenos, avocado, etc) and said it was one of the hottest burgers he's ever tasted (a plus for him)!
They have more types of beer to offer than I've seen in a while. All in all a great Friday night!
