I agree with Max J.'s take; I'm just not as strict in my star giving. Players has lasted; it is PV's diner. It's been around since before I was in high school and the writing is literally on the wall.
Breakfast is their sweet spot. Nothing is really ever bad, but they know how to do breakfast. And while the menu options may seem a little simple and straight forward, they'll let you change it up as much as you want. Add cheese, add mayo, take out the tomato and add bacon. Do whatever you want and they can more than likely make it happen.
Yes, it's a "Southern diner"...had brunch there last week while visiting PVB. Nice, big omlettes with yummy biscuit and my friend had "cheese grits"--NO, not a trendy version, but a portion of grits with a slice of good, ol' American cheese placed on top!! Â BTW...anything you order with "cheese"...American cheese is what you get!!
Local hangout (we were heading to another restaurant next door, but it was closed by tax foreclosure!!) for sure. Â Good for what it is!!
Players Café is a great spot to eat if you enjoy breakfast at all hours of the day. When the previous reviewer wrote that this is Ponte Vedra's diner he was right. After a long night of drinking there are few things better then pancakes dripping with butter and syrup and black strong coffee and Players delivers. I would skip their lunches, they aren't bad, just not anything to write home about. The breakfasts on the other hand will leave you happy and full. Don't come to players looking for anything special what they do they do well. Make sure to check out the walls where cartoons of locals and celebrities are on the wall.
I would give players 2 stars, skip their lunches and dinners and go for their breakfasts. Don't get me wrong, its good food, but there isn't anything unique about Players other then the fact that it is just about the only local breakfast spot like it in the town.
If Ponte Vedra had a diner this would be it. Â Growing up in high school this was my favorite "roll out of bed at the crack of noon and still want breakfast spot"
Pretty sure you can get breakfast all day long but they also have lunch stuff like sandwiches and chicken fingers.
While it's certainly greasy, its that make you feel good that you are eating it kind of grease. Â Whether you are recovering from a hangover or just trying to fill that bottomless pit you call a stomach, this is your spot. Â The food comes out fast and you get your drink filled before you can finish the last one.
Where else can you get two omelets, 1 pancake, a coffee, and a lemonade for $19.80 Â Don't try and decipher the recipe they give you before you pay, that's waitress code that you won't understand.
Oh player's cafe how I will miss thee when I return to NYC.....
