Good food, even as it's too much!! Â Good prices. Â Perfect location for our stay w/my sister in Orland. Â I had a beef w/hot and sweet peppers. Â Not hot peppers, they are actual raw, sliced jalapenos!! Â Good, but not expected. Â Guess i was looking for giardinera. Â Very big sandwich!! Â Large fries was HUGE. Â Kids (my two plus my neice) had burger, hot dog, chicken sandwich, shakes and fries plus i ordered my brother-in-law a double cheeseburger to go. Â Not even $20 for all that and we brought home enough fries for B-I-L's burger. Â Great go to place.
Review Source:Have been going here off and on for many years, not a constant buyer but at least 6 times a year. Well, I stopped by there recently, and was thinking about a polish, never had one there, and asked if they can char grill. Yes they can! The manager or owner suggested I get the polish char, but its addicting, and it is. I have stopped now 3 times in 3 weeks and its great with mustard and onions. He also asked if I wanted the polish on a hotdog bun and its better on that. BTW they will char grill the hot dogs too! Nice change to the steam and a little more flavor that way. The only complaint is the fries, they just don't taste good, a cheap frozen quality. They would be better off going to a fresh cut like the great hot dog stands in the city and north side do. It's a good value too it comes with fries for 3 bucks and a drink all for under 5. With the economy the way it is this place has good values all over the menu.
Review Source:You're thinking, "Why is this dude giving Pop's Beef only one star?" My issue isn't with the food. It's more so how the employees act and their inability to understand simple requests. Those two issues, when compounded, make it increasingly hard for me to frequent this restaurant. They have great Italian beef sandwiches, and my mom loves their shrimp dinner. She's addicted, so there's that. They get one star for that alone, but you cannot have terrible customer service and expect people to come back, no matter how great the food is.
I procured a few gyros after they started offering them at $3.00 each. I once asked for light tatziki sauce, because they initially drowned them in it. Too much of a good thing is still too much, after all. Instead of light tatziki sauce, I received none.
They offer call-in ordering, so you can pick up your food quicker and be on your way. I ordered a shrimp dinner, a three hot dog special, and an italian beef sandwich with hot peppers. The employee on the phone asks me when I'd like to pick it up, and I tell them in 20 minutes. I arrive within 20 minutes, and the FINE employees at this establishment haven't even started making any part of the order. The employee I spoke to explains it's because they're wary of prank callers, and I concede but I ask why they even offer it in the first place if such is the case? It's irritating to offer it, but not actually. I also get to feel like an idiot, not cool.
Today, I come in and order a double hamburger special(Double cheeseburger/hamburger with large fry). I ask for no cheese on the hamburger. I clarified for the cashier, "I want everything but cheese on the hamburger, okay?" And I assume she understood. I want to pay with debit card, but jerk employee from the call-in experience is using the fax machine, so I pay with cash. Food is ready in about 6 minutes. My number is called and I grab the food. I leave. I drive 5 miles back home, and behold! They put absolutely nothing on the hamburger. That's fine with me. Mistakes do in fact happen. I call Pop's up and explain to the cashier who rang up what happened. Her initial response is insisting that I asked for it plain. I repeat, as politely as can be, that I asked for everything but cheese on it. She's the same employee who was snarky about light tatziki sauce. She requests that I bring the screwed up hamburger back. And I have difficulty accepting that, because I don't want to walk back into the goddamn place with a hamburger in hand, like some schmuck, but she insists! I concede, bring the hamburger back, and put it down on the counter and ask for my money back. She looks at me with disgust and says, "Excuse me?".
"I lost my appetite, I would please like my money back", and she's staring at fax machine guy, probably looking for him to intervene and tell me to get out or something as delusional as that, so he tells her to hit the coupon key and refund me for the price of the hamburger. Before walking out, again, politely, tell her that I didn't appreciate being treated as though I was trying to scam a hamburger out of them, and she smugly says, "Thank you".
So, hey. The food is great. I won't argue that, never will, but the employees here need to be trained in customer service(And I don't mean some nonsense along the lines of "the customer is always right"), I mean treating your customers with a miniscule amount of respect so they don't feel too disgusted to come back in.
And I won't come back in, unless I hear from management about this bullshit. Thanks for reading!
EDIT: I heard back from management, and another twist to this story! As I mentioned earlier, call in order jerk was using the fax machine, and my debit card didn't seem to go through, so I paid with cash instead. Guess what? My debit card purchase was in a sort of limbo. The payment remained pending for 5 days, which to those who are sticking to a budget, can mean quite a bit. Imagine you're buying food for a larger group of people, not enough for catering, but just enough to where you're spending $50-80, and their card reader decides to crap out on you and you opt to pay with cash, and it turns out that it went through just enough to grab the money out of your account and hold it hostage. That money is unavailable to you until you file a dispute over the transaction with your bank(a nightmare) or it releases the money back to you.
Tell me this: Can you, with the economy as bad as it is, afford to deal with that? I know I can't. And onwards to my chat with the general manager. Apparently it's very much so store policy to demand customers to bring fucked up food back in. They could be gracious and not tell you to bring it back in to have it swapped out, or refunded, but they think we, their customers, are a bunch of lying thieves, isn't that lovely? They must see the food and inspect it themselves, and grumble at the nerve of their lowly customers to claim their food wasn't made as requested.
I think I have over dosed on Pops this week. My second trip to this location in a week. I had the three dogs with fries and they were very tasty. The second time I had the gyros with fries. The pita was thin so you didn't get filled up on the breading. The meat was piled high and had lots of sauce on it. The fries are always a favorite in the big bag. They were geared up for the Super Bowl as one after the other, people were leaving with their catering orders.
Review Source:Been coming here since I was a little boy so I give it 4 stars for nostalgia. It's really nothing special but I'd always get the beef and hot dogs growing up. Decor is very outdated 90's with lots of sun-faded sports photos in the entrance, but will always go back if I want something super cheap!
Review Source:I have to completely disagree with the other yelpers on this one. I knew the Pop's name from Evergreen Park and thought I would get the same quality and service. I was wrong! The first time we ate here it was okay. Nothing special, but passable. The second time around, I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. I got my burger and it was COLD. As in not cooked all the way through. As in not pink, not raw, but STILL FROZEN in the middle. Not a place I will return to.
Review Source:I ordered the 9in. Italian beef and onion wings with honey mustard. Total came to under $10. It seems kind of like and Italian fast food place only better. Although nothing comes on the sandwich other than meat, bread, and 'the juice' (as the lady behind the counter called the meat juice) it was pretty good. The meat didn't have an out of this world taste but it was still worth it. I would eat there again.
Review Source:I have driven by here many times and finally decided to go in. Good choice indeed. I had the double cheeseburger loaded with fries. Good burger help soak up some of the booze from the night before. The fries came in a huge sack and were very good also. My friend had the 3 hot dog special and they were good as well. They have a big menu with a lot to choose from. They also offer catering and someone was picking up chicken and I wanted it. Smelled good. This is a must stop.
