Hidden gem!! It's literally a neighborhood restaurant but newer owner (of Carlucci's fame) has elevated the menu to something usually not found in a pub dropped in the middle of a subdivision. The shrimp tacos were tasty with just enough spice. The pico de gallo was fresh. The Niçoise salad was a refreshing change and was served with a lemon rind vinaigrette that was clearly homemade. Kids meals were on a portioned plate which we love and came with fresh pineapple. You wont find processed, frozen chicken nuggets here. Theirs are real chicken breast pieces hand battered. Obviously they understand that kids matter, too. Looks  like  they have some new hires so service can be sketchy. Our server was replaced with a veteran and she rocked! Can't wait to go back sans children to check out the inviting bar and order one of those giant pretzels I saw being delivered to another table. It must have been a foot high and had 3 dipping sauces. Yum! Owner came out to greet us and to see how everything was. Always a good sign!
Review Source:Went there for the first time last night. Â Was very disappointed. Â The service was very slow. Â We waited 35 minutes for the fish fry. Â House wine was $7 and they charge extra if you don't want French fries. Â Our friend is on a special diet and ordered the blue cheese burger with no bun or fries and asked for vegetables. Â It came with no blue cheese and they charged her extra for the veggies! Â I don't think we will be back.
Review Source:Bring a fly swatter. Â Good food but omg flies. I'm talking about flies to the point where it's probably a health code violation. I understand that this is an indoor outdoor, country club environment. But there is a health code and these guys could use screening or something to prevent the infiltration of flies to the point where you end up having to move tables and constantly wave your arms in the air.
My server said that the flies were released in order to "combat the West Nile virus. " Are you kidding me? I never heard such a lame excuse in my life.
I will return and enjoy this place once the weather turns cold. But if I were the owner, I would figure out how to avoid losing thousands of dollars of patron business in this manner.
That being said, if you go on a flyless day, enjoy the Flat Iron Steak...a very generous cut of beef on an ironically skimpy bed of french fries. Flavorful and nice. Terrific selection of wines by the glass with a generous pour. I really want to give this place another star or two, and I will upgrade them as soon as I go on a non-infestation day.
This is a nice place, but ... There's no other way to say it: we had a pretty clueless server who, frankly, could not get an order for a glass of ice water straight.
My wife ordered a Kahlua and coffee. Â He brought her a -- I'm not making this up -- a cup of coffee and a shot glass of Kahlua. She had to explain to him what a Kahlua and coffee was. :-/
I asked him what kind of single malt whisky they had. Â He said "I don't know, but I can find out.". OK. I have no problem with that. But, came back and says "we have Chivas, Crown Royal, Jim Beam ... ". I cut him off. "None of those is a single malt whisky".
I wouldn't expect most people to know what a single malt whisky is, but a server in a pub should. Plus, he should know what a Kahlua and coffee is.
To cap off our experience, he dropped off our check and then proceeded to disappear. Â We finally gave up waiting for him to come back and so we went and found the cashier and paid ourselves.
I still can't believe my wife left this knucklehead a tip. Â :-/
I really wanted to be blown away - the building is nice, view of the course is great - beer selection was very good but the food was just average. Â I have visited several times and it's always the same to me. So so. Â The entertainment on the weekends is a nice touch. Â I also consider myself a fish fry specialist and this fish was too much bear batter and greasy.
Review Source:Gosh, I want to love Porter's Pub, but it really was just so so.
The atmosphere is Awesome! The space, the golf course and the bar are just great.
The location is perfect for us.
However, the menu is just average and the waitress we had was sub par. My husband got the beef tips, way over salted and he added a salad which was nothing more than bitter greens with dressing (and the ranch dressing was not good, how is that possible!).
I got the fish taco appetizer as my meal. I asked how many tacos it came with and she said "about three". Well if about three means two, then she was right. I thought about complaining, but she was so slow, I couldn't imagine waiting to sort through that debacle.
I think we'll go again, like I said, it's beautiful and convenient for us, but we'll probably stick with what they are known for...burgers.
First off let me just say the place looked like it had a lot of potential. Â Nice setting, nice looking interior. Â
The host did say they were "backed up" as well but that did not cover the poor service we received. Â After bing seated we waited about 20 minutes to see a waitress. Â It was another 40 minutes to recieve our appetizer (some chips). Â During this 1st hour we only saw the waitress once, never got drink refills, or even a sideways glance. Â Another 45 minutes later and we got our 3 hamburgers (no special requests). Â 1hour 45 minutes to get 3 burgers is quite extreme. Â The food was mediocre although the presentation of the appetizer was decent though. Â I think we may have been able to overlook all this if at any time the staff had acknowledged our long wait. Â Like I said the host did warn us they were backed up but 1:45 to get 3 burgers and some chips with no attentiveness from the staff in the intervening time made this a bad if not infuriating experience. Â Really hard pressed to consider given them a 2nd chance.
I was very pleasantly surprised with my recent vist to Porter's Pub. It was much nicer and larger than I had expected. The bar/restaurant overlooks the golf course and the decor is English Pub style.  The bar itself is quite large as well as the actual dining area. Also there is a small banquet room in the back. We were there for Wed $5.00 burger night. We were surprised to find that the burger was fresh made (not a frozen patty) and  price included steak fries and lettuce, tomato, & onion on the side served on a nice pretzel roll. We also ordered a basket of onion ring appetizers which were very tasty and made with real onions.  Cheese was only .50 additional for the burger.  The craft beer selection was also surprisingly varied. We felt the beer was on the high side ($6.00), but since we only had one beer with the burger special, it was still reasonable.  My neice ordered the chicken tenders, but refused to eat them after just one bite. We initially thought she was just being picky, but after we tried them, we all agreed they were the most tasteless & bland chicken tenders we had ever eaten.  Apparently she was happy with her steak fries and ate all those.
All in all it was a nice neighborhood pub and would come there again. Â Recommend the Wednesday Burger Special & onion rings. Do not recommend the chicken tenders.
Porters is nestled in a community off Bowes Road Gulf Club. Within the last year, it's been taken over by new management that also runs Carlucci's. I have to say it's come a long way since it was built. The menu, style, and execution is much more cohesive and exciting.
I love the food and drinks offered. The last time I dined there was a Saturday evening before Valentine's Day. If you order an entree you can have  three glasses of wine (on the selected list) for THREE PENNIES! So obviously, I just had to go with that option!
Mom and I ordered the same (which is typical) the Vday Entree. They ran out of the soup, which was fine, but the backup soup was cabbage soup. Ew, no thanks. I'll pass. The second course was a mixed greens salad with a pomegranate vinaigrette. Our entrees was heart shaped seafood ravioli in a vanilla beurre blanc accented with a heart-shaped beet and grapefruit segment. It was adorable and delicious. The combination of flavors was tantilizing. Our finale we decided to get one of each of the desserts and split it. There was a creme brulee and also a bread pudding with a nutella sauce. I can't remember details because I was literally in a sugar induced coma. YUM!
Our waiter, D, was such a doll. Please go and check out this cozy spot.
I will be adding to Poter's Pub 5 star rating!! I came here last night after my handy Yelp app found it for me. I had an amazing experience here from start to finish! We walked in right as the Bulls game was starting and was a little worried we wouldnt find a table in the bar area, but we sure did have one open, almost like it was waiting for us. As soon as we sat down our waiter came to ask us if we wanted a drink...well the beer menu is huge and I had to look it over for a few minutes before I could decide on which one I wanted. While we were trying to figure that out he brought us waters, super nice I thought and at that time I had picked the doggie style ale.....and I even said it with a straight face;) For dinner I ordered the Turkey burger and fries. OMG the burger was awesome, I would for sure recommend it, BUT it does not come on the pretzel roll...which I will be asking for next time cause they are yummy. The fries it came with are steak fries and usually Im not a fan cause they tend to be mushy....O no not at Poter's Pub!! Crispy Steak Fries= amazing!
After Dinner we decided to hang around a little bit and have a few more beers, I tried the Two Hearted Ale, which was also really good!!
a side note they did not have pickles to put on the burgers....I was kinda bummed....until our waiter came back with a plate of cut up pickels for me. I thought that was really nice of him. I will for sure be coming back here and cant wait to buy a day pass to try the course in the Summer!!! : )
