If you're from Poway this is the bar where you will always run into people from high school. Â Not the ones that used to shove my head in a toilet, give me wedgies, laugh when I peed my pants, or made fun of my shorts and high socks... the cool ones. Â The old owner was kind of a tool but the atmosphere was great. Â Since then one of the bartenders who has been there for years is an owner and the bar has finally gotten the leadership it deserves. Â Rob offers drink specials, something the old owner had no understanding of, and has brought a brighter and much more lively atmosphere to the joint. Â He still brings in some of the more talented live acts in the Poway area and has kept most of the kick ass staff that made the place so great. Â He has even brought in some new faces and tapped into his family to make the place feel more like one. Â
Poway's has established itself to have some of the greatest washer players in the world... don't believe me? Â Just challenge anyone who is playing when you walk in to a game and no one will shy away from it. Â
It is still in Poway, nothing you can do about location, so watch out for the Poway Sheriff's Department who like to hang around and check out the vehicles leaving the lot since it is one of the only bars in the City in the Country. Â Best designate a driver or call Big Mike... I'm sure he'll be waiting to take you home as well and he's way cheaper than a cab.
Be sure to eat some of the delicious and greasy food off of the menu, the deep fried Paddy Balls melt in your mouth. Â
This is a Poway staple and Rob has treated it as such and has immortalized it into the history of the little city in the outskirts of San Diego.
Really cheap stuff here and I their really long happy hour. I came in at around 11am...no, not because I'm a drunk or anything, but I needed to kill time and I've been here before, and as such, I just felt like coming back.
Their happy hour 10am-7pm everyday with $4 you call it's, and appetizers, 2 for $4 or 3 for $6. Yah, so I got a plate full of mozzarella sticks, wings and jalepeno poppers for just $6.
And this place is one of the few that serve Firstone IPA and DBA. With $2 DBA pints, I was super happy and relaxed during this random mid-week, 11am lunch hour.
The staff here are super friendly too. They have a pool table and an electronic juke box.
It's an Irish pub but not really Irish in Poway...
The food is absolutely fantastic! Â Can't get enough of it. Â They have many beers on tap and their happy hour is good. Â The staff is very nice and they have trivia on Thursdays.
The only negative I have about the place is the people. Â Some of the regulars isn't my crowd.
Pretty good food there laddy's. Â Lots of good music too. Â My hubby and like to come in when we are in the area. Â I wish they would have cheaper drink specials because thats what I really appreciate about a good bar, when it doesnt cost you that much to drink. Â
Especially hometown breweries, they should have cheap tap prices and that would probably bring a lot more customers.
This place has really returned around. Patricks, or whatever the hell it used to be called, was a dump. The new owner took this place and made it into something well worth visiting if you're in the Poway area. Probably the best Poway bar.
The menu is definitely worth checking out. Get the toasties or the shepards pie tacos that aren't on the menu... shhh.... So good.
Poway Irish pub was packed tonight and I can tell they are really hitting their stride. Â
They had a great band (Bare Bones) and the place was hopping! Â In the old days before it was PIP you would have to wait to get served or brave the bar where the owner might serve you eventually but with a baleful eye.
Now you can get your beverage of choice and the service is spectacular! Â No baleful eye or long waits.
Yaye!
You are about to have a new bartender named Wendy start tomorrow 08/16/12 at 10AM. This was a very smart move on whoever does the hiring there. Wendy is by far one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. She will have your clientele loving her from the get go. Yes, she is a beauty but inside she is more special than you can imagine. Get to know her and find out for yourself. Bless you Wendy and best of luck on your new endeavor.
Review Source:Somewhat unassuming dive ish bar on the main drag of Poway. It's the kind of place you go to if you have no bar to call home. Not full of a bunch of strangers. Locals, but not regulars. The patio is curbside where most bars due to noise and disturbance the patio is in the back. You might be confused about the front door situation. There are 2 very close together. The first few times I came here was either day time or just off work up the road, but you'd always be able to find a few people inside it's never really dead. The last few times I've come on a Sunday and Monday night and it was packed. I usually come underdressed in gym clothes or lately overdressed it's a t-shirt and jeans kinda of place. A normal amount of taps with expected variety, pricing is about what a dive ish bar would cost. They ID here, so don't be surprised.
A funky looking orange felted pool table they have 2, but only 1 looks out of place. The classic low hanging lighting and bathrooms at the near end. Plenty of tables and some outdoor seating they have that washer toss in the back that can get annoying from the CLANG, but it's usually drowned out a bit by the ambient bar noise.
Going against my rule I've actually eaten here. Just appetizers, but be warned the Irish Nacho's have refried beans which as we all know is a staple to the traditional Irish diet. Potato planks seem more fried than baked.
I feel pretty comfortable here, but it takes a lot for me to feel uncomfortable at a bar. I kind of wish they had a fire pit though. The bartenders are pretty good and since most people drink beer here it makes all of our lives a little easier. They could use a little weed wacking in the back as the shrubbery is invading the patio space. It's well lit and especially during sunset you get this great ambient glow from the hills.
Well, where do I start? This is my first time. Went last Friday and had a great time.
I like  a place with strong drinks, pool table, dart board and a GOOD live band.
It also helped that the bartender liked  The Dodgers and The Lakers on TV nearby!
Ok, so now all of  you San Diegans are tuning out..SORRY. Boston Rob the other bartender was also cool.
This place rocks.
The band was super.
Very friendly atmosphere. Who needs the pretentious downtown with cover charges!
If you are looking for a good time check this place out you won't be sorry.......Just GO!
On one hand, this is your typical neighborhood bar, so no loss of stars because of that. Â Ambiance is what it is. Â If you are looking for a place that looks like The Field or a gastropub, keep looking. Amber is indeed a very good server and easy on the eyes. Â The guy behind the bar was nice and asked us if we needed anything.
Small negative was limited beer selection. I would have liked to have seen a beer list, but they did have Guiness. Â But no other stouts or porters. Â
I thought the food was average. Â Not bad, Â but not great. Â We had the fish and chips and it was a bit on the greasy side. Â Chips were okay. Â We also had the special burger and it was tasty, but not on the same level as many other burgers. Â
Negatives were the music choices. Â But that is me. And I am an old fart. Â But after a while I grew tired of the thumping beat. Â Also the patio area was really a smoker's area, so though it might have been nice to sit there, it was crowded with smoke. Â Don't sit too close to the door to the patio, because the smoke comes in.
So to sum up... not a bad place. Â If someone feels comfortable here and enjoys pub food, it's all good.
Love this place. The new owners have turned the place around. I love the traditional Irish food (it reminds me of home) and they are the only place that can pour a proper Guinness and coke. The live bands at the weekends are always a good time and people let loose and enjoy themselves. Go and check it out.
Review Source:Poway's Irish Pub is now under new ownership and the Pub has improved dramatically! There are multiple flat screen TVs, new games, new jukebox, new dartboard and much more! The food went from ok to AMAZING! I am really impressed with all the new changes. If you are looking for great atmosphere, quick and friendly bartenders, great live bands, and an overall cheap night this is the place to go! I would highly recommend this bar!
Review Source:Since the ownership change in Jan 2012, things have completely turned around. Â The staff is very friendly and attentive. Â They are serving tasty pub food, great drinks, and awesome live music (weekend evenings). Â Nice mix of all ages like a neighborhood pub should be. Â If you had a bad experience in the past (under old ownership) they deserve another shot.
Review Source:I bypass several pub/bars on the 7 mile drive to hang out here. Why? Because this is simply the friendliest pub bar to hang out in. Why?
1) The bartenders all of them are friendly. They mix drinks all sorts of drinks and will even let you try new ones that they make up. The last one I tried was a Fruit Loop Vodka shot that tasted like leftover milk in a Fruit Loops bowl.
2) The food. Sure it's pub grub, but my God it is tasty and full portions reasonably priced. The fish and chips here far surpass anything I've had in the county including Point Loma Seafood and The Tin Fish.
3) Live Music on Fridays and Saturdays. The new ownership is rotating all sorts of new bands in and thankfully bring some old bands back.
4) Ambiance, it's a pub. A friendly gathering place for friends and neighbors to meet, greet, hang out and enjoy each others company. This ain't no meat market or disco. Grab one of the ladies here against her will you will have bouncers, bartenders and a few patrons on you in a heartbeat and you won't be allowed back in.
* Bloody Mary's * Dina makes the best Bloody Mary's around!!
Unless I'm out of town I'm here most every Friday or Saturday night hanging with my friends.
------ One year On -----
Still one of my favorite places to hangout. The Bloody marys during football season are getting better and better. Jessica is now giving Dina a run for her money in the Bloody Mary department. See the photo of Jessica's Ultimate Bloody Mary with Beer Chaser.
Excellent place for watching those Packers games. If they had a breakfast buffet like Players it would be even better. :-D
This establishment changed ownership at the beginning of 2012 and things have been better than ever. Â You can tell the staff is happier since the change. Â Most of the staff is the same, especially behind the bar which makes me happy. Â Theres Amber who is about as hot as they come and another bartender(Rob) who looks like he could be the Rock's little brother. Â Rob gets in the weeds sometimes but always delivers your drink with a smile and a wink! Â Both are great and make the bar scene fun.
The food is awesome too! Â Their main chef (I think his name is Larry) is trying his best to make the best burger in San Diego. Â They aren't quite up to the quality of Rocky's, but they are close!
