I was here recently, (my second time here) and it was a whole lot of fun.
Going with fun people is important, if you wind up with some negative Nancy's like some of the previous reviews here, then you will likely not enjoy it, then again you can always just lock em in the trunk of the car until which time you are ready to leave.
Its funny about the Debby downers...they would go to a bingo hall, and complain about "annoying talking over the PA the whole time"...or go to the beach and complain about sand and water...oy vey!
Ok I think we get the just of it, two pianos, people singing along, the performers mix a little comedy with a bunch of old songs and you have a dueling piano bar.
The cool thing about Pub 13, they have a sports bar upstairs and a connecting doorway to Club Divine, which gives you plenty of entertainment choices, so if your still not able to have a good time here, maybe old reruns of Matlock and a bag of microwave popcorn are just your ticket!
Love Pub 13. Â
Great Dueling Piano Show Wed.-Sat. Â Different pianists all the time, but all are very talented, and very personable. Â
Staff is great, very friendly. Â Decent priced drinks! Â
Crowd is a mix of college students, and middle-aged folks. Â GREAT for people watching, and fun with a group. Â Not somewhere I would head for a date or quiet night out. Â Birthday and Bachelorette party heaven!
Downside is...it's always busy on the weekends. Â If you don't get there by 8 or 9pm, you probably will have to stand and hope that someone decides to leave so you can take their table. Â
The Best Damn Sports bar is upstairs. Â Crappy version of a sports bar. Â Pool tables (most are falling apart) dart boards, small bar, and TV's.
Club Divine is next door connected by a small door. Â Divine is pretty crappy, and a little shady. Â
Pub 13 is one of the best in Ypsi if you are looking for somewhere to go that isn't your typical "club" atmosphere!
Went on a Friday night and saw two pianos on stage and each piano had a guy playing. Yes! at the same time! We had beers all night and we ordered most of the unhealthy items on the menu: nachos with meat, pub poppers and mozzarella sticks, and chicken tenders. Nachos are huge, stick with the half order. Pub poppers were tasty. Mozzarella sticks are meh. The chicken tenders were probably the better of all. After drinks and food we went over to the other side of the bar where we all danced. Oh, there was a cover charge to enter Pub13, I think it was only $5.00. Also, go with a group of friends, or you'll think it's lame.
Review Source:You have to know what you are getting into and with that said, you must be with the right group of people!!! I recently went here with a bachelorette party and it was VERY fun. Â The two acts that rotate are pretty talented and usually pretty funny. Â The bar is decent and the drinks/food are reasonable...and not served in plastic. Â The age group was mid 20's to late 30's and everyone was having fun drinking and dancing. Â The pianists take music requests, so there is that option. Â We had a great time and the bride loved it (all that mattered!)
Review Source:I don' t know why someone who doesn't like the whole dueling piano phenomenon would go to Pub 13 and then complain that dueling pianos is dorky. If that's not your scene, you're not going to like Pub 13.
However, if you're open to the experience, it can be a lot of fun. I went here with a friend who was celebrating her birthday recently, and we had a good time. The drinks were reasonably priced, and the bar is set up well to accommodate a large group like ours.
The guys on the piano are excellent at what they do, too. They were good sports about trying a few songs they weren't sure about and launched into some fun tunes when they were asked to play whatever they wanted. They were also good sports about playing songs they get requests for all the time.
One downside is that it's so loud in there, it's not much good for conversation. It also got very smoky in there after a few hours. However, in nice weather, they usually have a few tables and chairs set up just outside if you want to drink somewhere a little quieter and less smoky.
Can you give zero stars? Â (Nope - I tried)
If dueling pianos is your idea of a good time, this is your place. Â And they never take a break - two acts were rotating when I was here. Â My definition of bar hell.
My drunk friend insisted there was a good sports bar on Washington Street - unfortunately, he meant in Ann Arbor, not Ypsilanti. Â Good Lord.
So, you pay cover, you go in, sit down, and hear two people on stage belt out 70's and 80's hits interspersed with improvised songs about sex, small genitalia, and the sexual orientation of various audience members. Â The real highlight of the night comes as the piano players get audience members in a bidding war over which college fight song to play. Â
But seriously, screw paying cover, I am automatically suspect of any bar that charges it. Â There's a decent selection of beer, but last I checked, they were serving it in PLASTIC glasses. Â The drink specials are nothing to write home about (especially when compared to nearby bars). Â And the entertainment is severely lacking, unless you're someone that thinks calling people gay is the height of entertainment.
