Puerto Vallarta does not serve the best Mexican food you'll ever find. It doesn't even serve the best Mexican food that caters to American tastes. But it's great Mexican comfort food, and a great place to go for dinner in this town.
Some of the high points for me are the very reasonable prices, the different dining areas, each with a different feel, and the very quick service. Your food won't appear so quickly that you didn't get a chance to enjoy your complimentary chips and salsa, but I've been served more slowly at McDonald's.
You may find the decor cheesy or charming; same with the mariachi bands that occasionally play (it can be difficult to hear). Also, if you don't like dining in huge crowds, you'll want to eat a little early, especially on weekends. And again, if you're a foodie or Hispanic, you may say this isn't the highest quality food or necessarily very authentic. But, high quality or not, it's delicious!
I have brought many people here from out of town and I've never left with anyone who didn't say "That was soooo good!" Â For a fun atmosphere, an inexpensive evening, and Mexican dishes you recognize, this is a great choice.
This is a Ball State University student favorite !! I have come here several times with friends for their awesome margaritas. If you are looking to dine on a budget then this is where you need to eat. They have very low prices and it sure beats campus food. Food critics would be appalled but for college kids we love it. The service is always really good and you don't have to wait hardly at all for the food to arrive. I'm not sure exactly what that says about the food but you can't complain about not waiting.
Review Source:Whether it be for a celebration, a dinner with friends or for the simple fact of a margarita craving, Puerto's is your spot. Their margaritas -- my oh my. Full of power. I suggest coming with a DD after you indulge in one of their fine drinks.
I'm fond of Puero's "IT Special." So good. It has been a favorite ever since my freshman year at Ball State. I can't tell you how many times I went to Puerto's during my four years in Muncie. A lot. It seemed to be the place to go for any gathering. With it being on Tillotson, it's literally just a jump away from campus.
I'm not a huge fan of their most recent salsa option. It didn't used to be so spicy - but it seems that they turned up the heat. Overall, a wonderful Mexican restaurant worthy of your time. Yay Muncie! If Muncie has anything to offer, it's Ball State and Puerto's.
Not exactly authentic Mexican...as if I would necessarily know what "authentic Mexican" might be....after all...it is a large and diverse country with many different types of cuisines... Â which I just spelled quisine....thanks spell check !
what an idiot !
Tons of food for very few pesos... occasionally a gun mariachi band....very popular place in muncie....
Not bad...but not as good as some of the places in indy....however...their food has improved over the years....
i had the tamales. Â they were fresh but a little cool. Â dough was flavored with cinnamon but not as if it were a dessert. Â the complimentary chips were not seasoned with salt. Â the salsa tasted like crushed canned tomatoes that had chili peppers stirred in. Â not bad, but nothing special. Â it is also came with a side of refried beans and rice. Â the rice was a long grain that had been cooked with tomato and none of the grains clumped together so i guess they wash their rice really thoroughly before cooking it. Â dos equis was $2.29 on tap. Â i think the low cost will keep me coming back because the food is just average.
Review Source:Five stars. Â Not because it's the best Mexican food outside of Mexico. Â But because the food is good and really cheap. Â I used to come here all the time when I was a grad student. Â You can order things a la carte for under 2 dollars (one chicken taco was always enough for me), and if you get an order of their queso dip (which really, you must) it will be a perfect amount of food to complement your pitcher of margaritas and deep fried ice cream. Â Speaking of which, the deep fried ice cream is AMAZING. Â It's battered in some sort of corn flakes or something, fried, topped with whipped cream, honey, sprinkles, etc.... YUMMMMM.
The complimentary chips and salsa are also great. Â I've never had food here that wasn't tasty, quick, and cheap. Â The atmosphere is pretty true to any disney-esque mexican restaurant in the US trying to be what it thinks Americans want a Mexican restaurant to look like. Â But, that said. Â It's casual, comfortable, and always a good time.
My favorite memory of Puerto Vallarta was when a friend and I were having trouble finishing a pitcher of margaritas and they offered to package them to go. Â I walked out of a restaurant with a to-go cup filled with margarita.
Only in Indiana.
