The southside has Bourbon Street...we get QBar! --
A little more on the divey end, but that's usually how I like my bars. ;) --
This little mega complex has something to keep everyone happy!
Good setup of pool tables, areas for dinning, free bag play, playback some serious karokee going on last night!, and the section where they feature live music is great! Great sound and lighting! Love the tall booth seating! They get some good bands in here! And the price is right! $5 cover (free if not seeing the band) - decent selection of beers. Have the 2brothers on tap ;) -- good prices on booze.
Very interesting and friendly people! -- got pranked when we walked in by a regular who checked our ids and wanted to charge us cover..until the doorman seen what was going on, called him out. Definitely not the place for stiffs! Told that guy he owed us a drink btw! --
Had a great time with some off the wall people!...close to home..or close enough when you get that bourbon st itch! ;) -- Do believe we`ll be back!! --
Our waitress, was slow, and didn't really check on us at all. Â It took 20-30 minutes to be acknowledged, and another 15 minutes for one pitcher of beer. She also overcharged us for beer, the specials board said it was 6 bucks and we were charged 8. Â She even confirmed that it was 6 bucks!! Â
I don't know what happened there, it seems like it could be a fun place, and I'll come back, but I think next time, I'll pregame a bit.
This place is under new management, and has improved quite a bit. Finally, no cover charge!! At times, I just wanted to hang out and maybe watch a game on the weekends, but there was always a cover charge even if I wasn't interested in the band. Now you only pay to get in the separate band room if there is a special act playing. Much better. The food is decent, and a lot of cute waitresses.
update: 5/6/2013
I was in to watch the Bulls game and ordered the quesadillas. The quesadillas themselves are just average and I only order them because the salsa they have is homemade, authentic and amazing! NOT ANYMORE!! The salsa has been changed to what is clearly commercial grade out of a can. When I asked the manager what happened, he said he had too many complaints. WHAAAAT! I wasn't born yesterday, and clearly I was given a line of BS on a decision he made to cut cost. I get it, making fresh salsa takes time and requires fresh ingredients which costs more. Just tell the truth next time, it goes a long way.
My husband & I went there with some friends to shoot some pool. The parkinglot is always packed on the weekend so we thought we'd see what this place is like. So, its a typical sports bar but what I enjoyed was that its very spacious. There are several TBd viewable from most areas. There was a $5 cover bit there were some live bands playing which were pretty good. The atmosphere is really laid back. A nice place to hang out once in a while. We'll definitely go back.
Review Source:i just left Q and I can't think of anything more important than posting their yelp review. First.... they get 2 stars just because it looks like they are trying to improve the place. Good job with the expansion and the updated booths. Looks like it will turn out nice. Unfortunately Q books some of the worst music ever. Reckless just played there tonight and it was the worst band I've ever heard at a bar. They were out of sync, out of tune, and sometimes not even playing the same song. I've heard games of Guitar Hero that sounded better. I don't mean to dump on the bar for a crummy band but they booked them and had the nerve to charge a $6 cover. Come to think of it I take back one of those stars. For a bar with live entertainment you get 1 star. Save your money and go anywhere else.
Review Source:Q Billiards looks like an amazing place as you walk in and see everything that is going on. Â There are pool tables, lots of tables to sit at and drink, a couple of separate bars, and a back room for bands.
We went here to see Local H: Â Local H was amazing but we were really disappointed with the bar and the employees. Â The place was packed and there were only one or two bartenders behind each large bar. Â It took nearly 40 minutes to get a beer and I was standing AT the bar- not even in a line!
Some areas are not well thought out in terms of space. Â In other words, there is a lot of bottle-necking.
Well, what can be said about this establishment? I've only been here a couple of times, but that's enough to observe that this place is pretty cool.
This establishment is rather large and offers a multitude entertainment options: bean bags, darts, Foosball, arcade games, pool and watching sporting events.
I've noticed that the college-age kids stick to playing bean bags, which is free to play. There are 4 stations at which to play, and I can only assume that the game becomes highly amusing after a couple of drinks to test one's dexterity. I have to admit that I played a couple of times, but stopped in germaphobe disgust when I noticed a huge plume of dust escaping a bean bag that had hit the floor beneath a lamp. I don't know how often they replace those bean bags, but judging from the dust, I'd have to say never.
Just adjacent to the bean bags, they have a row of electronic dart boards. I don't think it's much fun to play darts because I didn't see anyone approach that gaming area. Perhaps it's not as fun to play if there's no danger of accidentally impaling someone.
Completely across the room are the Foosball tables. They have 3 Tornadoes in really great shape. They have doubles Foosball tournaments every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. Your partner is picked randomly with a deck of cards, so it's difficult to win time after time. The tournament coordinator even brings balls so the tournament isn't played with crappy ones. The game isn't only for guys as I've seen a couple of gals playing in the tournament.
Next to the Foosball tables are the arcade games. They have games like golf and a punching bag and a hunting game and a couple more, but I've never paid attention to these games; however, people do play them.
This place really caters to pool-playing, and it doesn't disappoint. There are about 20 pool tables in great shape. The pool tables draw in a multitude of players from Asian business men (well, I can only assume they were business men because they arrived and played in dress shirts, slacks and loafers) to skinny hipsters and their paramours--oh, did I mention this place is great for people watching? Maybe I'm just easily amused, but I digress. They have pool playing specials, but you have to inquire when they are or check their website.
You can watch sporting events like baseball or mixed martial arts at the bar area or near the bean bags where it's projected on a large screen. These sporting events are not obnoxiously playing, though.
Apparently, there is live entertainment here once in a while--though it's not really advertised.
This place does a great job of separating the areas so people don't having bean bags flying in front of their faces as they're taking a pool shot. Also, there are many tables and ledges quite cleverly placed around the establishment where you can lay your pitcher of Bud Light or your purse.
As for the food, I've only tried a couple of appetizers. They're tasty, but don't expect freakish portions. I reckon you would have to get a couple of appetizers to get full. They do have sandwiches, wraps and wings, but I haven't tried them yet.
Overall, I would say this place is great. I give it 4 stars because there's lots to do, everything is adequately spaced out so there's no crowding, and it's where I discovered Bud Light (yay!). I need to taste the sandwiches, etc before I can give it 5 stars.
My only beef with this joint is that the music playing overhead is either all right or boring. I'm just glad they don't play "trendy" music . . . actually, nevermind. I guess the music is pretty good. I think I would go insane if they played Katy Perry or whoever the heck is "in" right now.
They have added live music on occasion, usually Saturday nights. Â I have seen two bands there and both were heavy metal - made me leave and go next door to cornerstone which has much better tastes in music. Â
Check out the Sunday Bloody Mary bar - about 30 different condiments to make bloody marys with.
On Thursdays, the place turns into "Club Q"/ Ladies night so guys have to pay a $5 cover and girls get in for free. Â Thursday nights also feature $1 domestic bottles and well drinks so it makes for a rather popular night for the younger crowd. Â However Thursday nights also features a DJ straight from a junior high dance.
The place has a lot of elements that I would look for in a bar including: pool, darts, foosball, bags, Â lots of tvs for sports, good wait staff, and decent food and drink prices, but the bar itself just leaves something to be desired. Â At times it seems like the bar is trying too hard to be something that it is not, and cater to a younger crowd, particularly on Thursdays.
Although it's not a bad bar it isn't one that you would go back to out of anything other than convenience. Â If you are looking to just go out for a casual drink during the week it would not be a bad place to go M-W, and if you are looking for a place with a decent amount of people on a Thursday there are usually a pretty decent sized crowd, despite the DJ ($1 drinks go a long way) it's not a bad choice. Â However I would avoid on Friday or Saturday.
