Before I begin I would like to state that I am more of a Chipotle fan. This being said I have no bias against Qdoba.

I was in Peoria for an appointment at one, and not wanting to be hungry during I swung into Qdoba for a quick lunch. If you've been to Qdoba before, they are all about the same. Big menu boards with burrito combinations, Subway style topping tables for you to select from, and a fountain soda machine to serve yourself from.

I went in at lunchtime and as I expected it was very busy. Under these circumstances I was not annoyed by the long wait in line. The first guy in the burrito assembly line was an obvious vet. He mentally took down the first few toppings for your burrito and passed the info down the line. Things were great until it came time for the salsa. There were about 4 employees standing around staring and a line was backing up. Out of nowhere a female employee appeared and got things going again. It was weird, because it wasn't for a lack of stock that the line stopped. The same employee also had the vision to man a second register, thus increasing the speed of the line.

It is an ok place for a quick burrito, but unlike my fellow native Peorians, I do not see what makes it so "addictive."

Tasty and inexpensive, but I wish they had other sides besides chips and salsa.

Let me start by saying that part of the reason that I disliked this restaurant is because I really do not like salty shredded beef (usually sirloin) in my mexican food.  I like ground beef.  I know, I know...that isn't truly Mexican!  However, if I wanted TRUE Mexican food, I wouldn't be eating at some chain in the first place, no?

Since I don't like the meat offerings, I ordered a cheese quesadilla.  It was the blandest thing I've eaten.  I make better cheese quesadillas at home with kraft shredded cheese.  I also ordered their chips/queso.  The queso had a funk to it.  I can't quite put my finger on it, except to say that it was gross.

    Ick.

A former coworker once told me that the he absolutely despised Qdoba, and always preferred Chipotle any day.  I never really saw a huuuge difference.  That is, until I had all Chipotle/no Qdoba for about three months.

Enter the Q today for lunch.  They've got some pre-determined burrito combos and a few extra things to sell, some of them on a "budget" price point.  I opted for the Street Tacos, three small double-corn-tortilla'ed tacos with shredded pork, red onion and cilantro.  The pork was juicey, but pretty flavorless at the same time.  The spicy habanero salsa was pure hot, but again lacking flavor.

I'm still giving three stars for a few reasons.  The chile ancho pinto beans on the side were poppin'!  Smoky and delicious, it was the grace-saver for an otherwise boring and uninspiring meal.  Also, I know there are better options out there, and I now know never to stray from my tried and true favorites.  Not saying it's better than Chipotle, but from here on out, I know how to roll.

If you like a burrito that will fill you up, than stop by. You have options on how they prepare your food in front of you, fresh ingredients, they cook the meat right there. Wish the salsa had a little more spice seemed a little bland for me. They have a good selection and you can get a combo for those that want to try little something different. Vegetarian and meat lovers are also avaliable. Good staff and they help you if its your first time to decide on something good.

A definite upgrade from Taco Bell without getting away from nicely Americanized "fresh-Mex" food. I have enjoyed everything I have tried here and the staff at this location has been very friendly thus far.

Craving the flavors of my adopted home, Southern California, I stopped by this quick service Mexican place with my younger sisters.  I had the tortilla soup and both my sisters ordered cheese quesidillas.
The tortilla soup was a very small portion, and not the salty, spicy flavor that I expected.  More of a tomato base.  Not spectacular.  The quesidillas were good and a generous portion.
Next time I'll try the tacos or a burrito and skip the soup.

    Chipotle, I am so sorry.

I will never cheat on you with your inbred, backwoods cousin again...It made me feel so dirty...

    Will you ever forgive me?
