Arrived at 6 30 on Friday evening during a heat wave, the A/C was not working very well. We were seated and informed A/C was just repaired and is starting to cool the room. Stale bread was placed on the table. The waiter announced there was no shrimp when he came to take the order,so I then needed to look at menu again because I wanted shrimp. When the waiter returned to take order he said the shrimp just arrived and was back on menu,I decided to stay with my second choice of hamburger medium. When I ordered a second glass of wine they had run out of my selection. The quesadilla appetizer arrived without sour cream, when I requested sour cream I was told there was none. My hamburger was well done when I pointed this out to the waiter he offered to bring it back, but I declined and told him we would not be coming back, and that I was not upset with him,but the management and that he should let the manager know. The waiter returned with check and did not charge for my hamburger. The manager never came over. I will be surprised if they remain open .
Review Source:This restaurant is beautiful. My girlfriends and I went there tonight and couldn't figure out why it was so quiet. The ambiance is perfect for a girls/guys night out or date night. The food was Delicious! Between the six of us, we had the special tuna quesadillas and an artichoke app- to die for! For dinner we had lobster Mac n cheese- amazing- steak frites- Delish and chicken and penne- so tasty. The staff is young and professional.
Rainwater Grill was a very pleasant surprise and I'm so glad we ended up there- do yourself a favor and check it out!
Went for a Mother's Day brunch the service was good, waiter was attentive and on his game. I ordered the eggplant rollatini and it honestly wasn't very good at all, the sauce seemed to be from a jar and the inside of the rollatini was cold. Everyone else I was with couldn't stop talking about how good their entrees were so I'm thinking it was a bad selection on my part. I'll be back to see how their dinner is
Review Source:This is a great place to get a nice meal in the Rivertowns, and a nice place for happy hour or drinks.
The menu is unique and everything I have tried is delicious. First went there with a Groupon for dinner but would definitely go back with family and friends!
Bar area is clean and friendly with decent happy hour specials and a good bar menu. Definitely a spot to hit if you're in the Westchester area!
Friendly service, but food just isn't very good at all.
The prices are somewhat norm, three people with entre's, a couple of glasses of wine and an appetizer was $98 plus tip.
Sadly, it's the food here that left us wanting more, or less as the case was on our second and likely final visit. The steak frites two of us had were char grilled and cooked pretty much to our request, but tasted as though they were soaked in brine for a days before grilling; one of those things you wanted to continue eating while trying to ignore the overwhelming over-salted meat, but I just couldn't finish. I thought it was just me, but the other friend having the same thing failed to finish hers as well due to sickening salty taste.
A fried calamari app came somewhat over-fried but the third friend's burger had no complaints. Hey, it's hard to screw up a burger.
Staff was friendly and we LOVED our waitress. Attentive and willing to slightly modify my order to make it more low carb friendly. Rainwater takes reservations but doesn't seem to be too busy, even on a beautiful Saturday night before a holiday.
Okay for a quick dinner or lunch perhaps, but not a place for a special meal or to impress friends.
The food can be tasty, but it is laden with fat. If you are at all calorie or health conscious, stay away
Overall, I love coming to the RWG and I've been there at least 10 times since opening night.
The main draw for me has been the atmosphere, the look and feel of the place. Â Wine by the glass is reasonably priced.
The dishes are varied and all tasty. However, almost every dining option contains something with a lot of fat and for people who are trying to eat healthy there are almost no options. Â On a visit in January we ordered a turkey burger and a salmon burger and had all sources added fat put on the side; two aioli's and avocado. Plus we asked them to skip the cheese.
The food was pretty good although the turkey burger had an unidentifiable crust on in that was unnecessary. When you order a turkey burger, you want a turkey burger. Â We also had the tuna tartare that was very good. The salad with goat cheese had a dressing that was pretty bad and tasted bottled.
I actually went back recently with friends for drinks. We sat in the bar area, nearly 8pm Friday night. We were the only ones there or maybe there were 1 or 2 others. Â We perused the menu to see what we might order to eat and could literally not find anything that did not seem to come with multiple sources of added and unnecessary fat. Hamburger stuffed with blue cheese and bacon? Really? Â Apple and spinach salad looked promising but it also contained blue cheese, candied walnuts AND molasses. Â We realized we could eat much better for cheaper around the corner and walked out before ordering. I think I am done with this place for good.
Rainwater Grill has become a wonderful watering-hole for my husband and I, my family, and friends. Â We frequently eat and/or have a drink there. Â I often bring my service dog with me and we sit either in the bar or the dining room. Â We are always welcomed warmly and we love the food and attentive staff. Â Last night was no exception. Â After being turned away at a different restaurant because of my service dog, we had the opposite experience at Rainwater Grill. Â My husband and I AND my service dog were welcomed and we got our choice of a table. Â The waiter was friendly and very accommodating: he asked if we wanted one of the chairs removed at this table for four, which we did. Â THEN he asked if the dog wanted a bowl of water, which I declined. Â My husband (the dog) and I had a relaxing and delicious meal. Â We have never been disappointed with Rainwater Grill and we shall continue to go there with or without the service dog.
Review Source:I've eaten here several times, usually with my family. The food is solid, though not particularly memorable.
But I'll try to provide some details. A few weeks ago, I had the potato-crusted salmon a few weeks ago and it was pretty good. My kids had the steak frites, which was very good--especially the fries. Back in November, I had a great burger, but made the mistake of ordering the fried avocado, which I thought was a waste of good avocado.
I like the casual atmosphere and actually watched most of the Super Bowl in the bar this year. It's a good place for hanging out. I'm probably going to stick with the red meat in the future.
This review is for the catering side of Rainwater Grille. I recently planned a large corporate event (125+ people), and we had Tony and his staff provide all of the food and beverages for a cocktail hour with passed and stationary hors d'oeuvres. All of the offerings (and there were MANY!) were absolutely delicious, and I have received nothing but high praise from the attendees. Tony was wonderful to work with, as he was patient with my questions, covered every tiny detail, and was willing to work within our limited budget. Based on the final product, no one would have guessed what an amazing deal he gave us for the entire day. To top it all off, he even had a local choclatier make individual truffle boxes for each guest with no extra charge. I cannot speak highly enough about the whole experience, and we will definitely be using his services again in the near future. Again, I can't speak to the overall restaurant experience, but based on the food we had, I wouldn't hesitate to go there for a lovely meal.
Review Source:Our visit started off very iffy, started to redeem itself, but still ended up flat.
So, we walk into the place and it's fairly dead. Â There are maybe 3 full tables on the restaurant side and 5 patrons on the bar side. Â Despite the fact that it was not busy at all, no one even turned their heads when we walked in. Â We walked back and forth from the bar to the restaurant side with no host or hostess in sight. Â Finally, after close to two minutes, we were able to wave down a waiter who told us to sit wherever we wanted. Â We sat down and waited another few minutes before the waiter came over (we still don't have menus in our hands) and asked what we would like to drink. Â When we asked for a beer and wine list, he said, "I can tell you what we have" and proceeded to take a while to think of the 5 or so beers they had on tap. Â We waited a while before we got our drinks, and still had no menus.
After we finally got menus, placed our orders, and our appetizers came out, the server was more friendly (though hard to understand because he was basically mumbling) and someone who I would assume was the manager came over to ask how everything was and was very nice. Â So the servers slightly redeemed themselves.
The rain drops (boneless wings) were very flavorful and had a great sauce, but were a little mushy and not as crispy as they could have been. Â I got a burger which was over cooked, dry, and not well seasoned. Â We also got sweet potato fries which looked delicious, but were not cooked.
The prices aren't bad, and maybe some things on the menu are better than what we ordered, but overall, I was very unimpressed. Â The service to begin with was not good, but they became more friendly as we were there, so they slightly redeemed themselves on that front. Â The one thing I'll give them is that it's a cute place with a nice ambiance, but we weren't there for the ambiance.
Maybe it's a good neighborhood place if you live in Hastings, but there are so many other grills and American restaurants that offer similar types of food at much better quality all over Westchester, so I'd pass unless they step their game up.
PIcked this restaurant from Yelp because the location was convenient for a large family gathering at an off-peak time (3 pm on Sunday). Â Worked out great -- we pretty much had the restaurant area to ourselves, which was good considering two toddlers were in our party. Â Shared a bunch of apps -- especially liked the eggplant and tomato dish and the mozzarella with tomato sauce. Â The beet salad with balsamic reduction was also a hit. Â The food was good, not great; the service friendly, attentive, and helpful, and the prices fair. Â Everyone had a good time.
Review Source:We went there for a quick bite and ate in the comfortable, and relatively quiet (compared to the restaurant on a Saturday night) bar. There are 4 (no sound and not too intrusive, thankfully) sports screens; at least one is tuned to soccer- thumbs up. Â Wine by the glass was very good at $9. The Margarita was better than average in terms of strength & average taste. The bar is welcoming, clean, and pleasant, but perhaps a little under-stocked. They had no mint that day and no sherry.
We had a plate of very good mussels and good grilled chicken chipotle-mayo sandwiches with fresh avocado and tomato. The chicken was very good; overall the sandwich could use a bit more chipotle kick. Fresh pepper certainly helped. The fries were good. Overall the food was good to very good quality, but not memorable or spectacular. Serving size is generous. Service was friendly and attentive. In the summer they have a few outside tables. closer to a 3.5
We went with a Groupon and told Rory once we were seated. Nice space and we liked the decor, music and lighting fixtures. Food was above average and yummy. Deconstructed Cesar salad and fried avocado app were really good. She got the lobster grilled cheese which was served on Texas toast. Big sandwich to eat and she could not finish it. I got the steak frittes which was delicious but maybe a lil skimpy on the portion size. (I had 4-5 sliced pieces) It was Sunday evening and we were there on a Groupon so we factored that into the meal. Service from Rory was great. Desserts were also good: Key Lime tart and Espresso Creme Brulee. We will return again for sure.
Review Source:We recently went on a groupon. They couldn't have been nicer or more responsive. The waiter was a delight, and the "manager", a women, was extremely forthcoming and pleasant. We both had the NY strips, and enjoyed them. We easily had enough for another meal each at home. The only slight caveat: The chocalate cake was not worth the 30 min wait; it was good but nothing special.
Review Source:Someone should inform them that the purpose of a groupon is to get customers in and have them want to return. Â The service was terrible (took 40mins for them to deliver desert) and we were told " sorry, the kitchen is back logged and because you have a groupon, other customers are the priority". Â Between this, and the noise level which made me feel like I was sitting in a school cafeteria, I would never go back. Â Not to mention my Mahi Mahi was still frozen in the middle. Â Even with the groupon I felt like I spent more money than this place was worth.
Review Source:Seriously I don't know what all the negativity is about.
Rainwater Grill was Godsent. Â I booked a graduation party for 50 people at another place. Â Four days before the party, the other place called me to let me know they were closing for renovations and that I was basically out of luck. Â With 4 days and 50 people scheduled to come, I was in a bind and luckily was able to book Rainwater Grill at the same date and time as my original party. I called them at 10:00 on a Monday night for a party that coming Saturday. Â Â The manager (Anthony) was very accommodating and was able to put the perfect party together in just 4 days! Â Even though I was desperate, he didn't take advantage and basically charged me the same price as what I would have paid at the other place.
The menu he put together was fantastic. Â It included chicken, fish, prime rib and a pasta. Â He even threw in mashed potatoes, spinach and salad which I wasn't expecting. Â The desserts were passion fruit mousse and espresso creme brulee. Â Honestly, the food was top notch and everyone enjoyed it. Â The prime rib was tender, the pasta was nice and creamy, and the chicken and salmon were perfectly cooked with a great sauce. Â The Caesar salad was crisp with fresh grated cheese. Â Several guest came up to me during and after the party to tell me that they are glad that the original place didn't work out as Rainwater Grill was a much better place. Â
Service was impeccable with friendly waiters, and the atmosphere was perfect. It was a nice day and several people sat outside with their drinks before lunch. Â Honestly, we couldn't have picked a more perfect place and will definitely use them for future parties.
Although my review was specifically about my experience with my daughter's party, I would also like to note that I've eaten here several times for dinner and have always had great atmosphere, great food and an overall pleasant dining experience.
I've had a great experience each time I've gone to Rainwater Grill! The staff has always been very pleasant and polite. The food has always been terrific - my favorite the chicken avocado BLT, my boyfriend raves about the lobster mac-n-cheese and the lobster grilled cheese. Plus, the bar/lounge area has a great vibe to it. I think Rainwater Grill offers a different experience than most of the other Westchester restaurants... and another plus, they deliver which is great if you work/live in the area!
Review Source:Okay so we go here for dinner and sit in the bat area as the two piece acoustics sets up. We later move to the bar before the food comes out.
I would come back for drinks as they also had a yelp deal of $3 beer and $6 well drinks.
I order the crab cake sliders and they were tasty. For my main dish I ordered the lobster mac and cheese. I have ha better. Very little lobster and no taste of cheese at all. Very bland and even my friend whos a regular said it's been better.
There are plenty of other places to go for a really good meal in area.
I had a super dinner. I was immediately greeted by a lovely young lady. Our waiter was delightful and engaging. The food...Wow! My wife and I shared two delicious appetizers. For our entrees, she had the salmon and I ordered the tilapia special. Delish! Sophisticated preparations and fresh ingredients make this place stand out. We can't wait to come back.
Review Source:This review is just for the bar side- I've only had apps & drinks here.
Rainwater has friendly, although not particularly knowledgeable bartenders, a decent selection of appetizers, and probably too many flavored vodkas behind the bar.
The TVs are pretty good quality and are easily viewed from any seat.
Hastings really needed a place with a clean bathroom that stays open late. Thanks RWG.
The menu was intriguing, with a variety of dishes we wanted to try. Sadly, the execution was lacking. The red sangria had too much brandy and not enough sweetness. The mussels came in a generous portion to share, but the broth was undersalted. The roasted beet salad was delicious, but the vinaigrette on the greens was far too assertive (and I like a sharp dressing). My steak frites suffered from a flavorless sauce on the steak, and unseasoned spinach. My boyfriend's lobster mac'n'cheese was absolutely bland; it tasted like cream sauce, with no identifiable cheese flavor.
To top things off, our server was clearly uncomfortable serving a gay couple; he was brusque almost to the point of rudeness and couldn't run away from our table fast enough.
We were sufficiently interested in the food that we will probably give this place one more try.
Horrible, horrible, horrible!
First, I'll start with the service. ...
I went to Rainwater for lunch one day cause I was in the area for business. Â When I arrived, there was a large party (maybe about 12-15 people) and a few other tables of 2 or 4. Â I stood at the front of the restaurant for a good 2 minutes before a host/server even acknowledged me. Â Okay, fine...maybe they overwhelmed by the large party? Â Well, that should have been my first clue. Â
When I finally got a table, I waited another 4-5 minutes before the server came and got my order. Â I put in my drink and food order at that time. Â I ordered a grilled chicken wrap. Â About 20 minutes passed, and I saw the table next to be (who arrived after me) get served. Â Hmmmm.... Should I go? Â Should I stay? Â I decided to stay. Â The chicken wrap HAS to be coming soon, right? Â I waited another 10 minutes, and I told the server to give me the bill for my drink cause it was taking way too long. Â He assured me that it was coming "right up." Â I finally received my food a whopping 32 minutes after I initially placed my order. Â
Now the food...
WORST.FOOD.EVER! Â Seriously - the worst food I've ever been served. Â My "chicken" wrap came with two small pieces of tough grilled chicken. Â The pesto on the inside of the wrap was tasteless which made the wrap extremely bland. Â The slices of avocado were HARD. Â I actually thought I bit into a cucumber it was so hard. Â The actual wrap was soggy from the salad dressing on the side of mixed greens. Â And the side of mixed greens? Horrible too... How can you mess a salad up, you ask? Â Smother it in heavy vinegar (not even a vinaigrette).
If this were the last restaurant in New York, I'd starve before going back. Â Disgusting...
Pricey and nothing, nothing, nothing special. I've been to many similar restaurants w/ food just like this one, but food isn't bad, so I gave it a 3-star rating (just b/c millions of other restaurants have done it before them, doesn't mean that they should be deducted stars, right?). Kids menu was actually priced well for a "restaurant" (although I never understood why restaurants don't serve children's menu dishes w/ any vegetables!?!?!?). One dish that we all enjoyed was their $15 appetizer called "Anthony's Plate", which 4 of us shared. Highly recommend it.
Review Source:I used to come here when it was Blue Moon. Â Honestly I've been dying to try it, but hadn't until last night.
We were seated right away, and decided on drinks. Â The drink menu has some really interesting and delicious choices.
We were given bread and olive oil. Â It was very good. Â A little kick in the oil, nice flavor. Â The mussels were also very good. Â Not too salty and enough for 2 without being too much.
I had the Inside-Out Burger. Â A beef burger with gorgonzola cheese inside, topped with bacon, lettuce and tomato. Â The burger was very good, but I was a little disappointed with the roll. Â It was served on a ciabatta which seems to be a trend these days, but the roll is a little tough and it's too much bread.
All in all though, it was a great experience and I will be back much sooner.
- beautiful bar with great beer and wine selections
- wonderful staff in the dining room and behind the bar
- parking lot next door and on the street (HUGE in this little town)
- tuna was fresh and seasoned perfectly
- salad was crisp and veggies were tender
- dessert was warm and the ice cream was cold - nothing sat around. It was prepared & delivered immediately.
I will return!
They have a new city-quality chef and it knocks this restaurant into a new class. Â We had a party of four that had a range of dishes, and they were all demonstrably above average, way above the suburban norm. Â
The service is always friendly, the bar area a pleasure and the liquor choice and martini choices excellent. The prices are reasonable, the layout intimate and nice tones. Â There really are no downsides. Parking is convenient, and on the unlikely chance that the restaurant is full, there are other good choices nearby.
There are two ways to look at this place. Â One is as a resteraunt, the other is as a bar. Â
As a resteraunt it is fairly good.  They have a nice selection, with  lobster mac-n-cheese being the highlight.  The service is good and the prices reasonable.  My only complaint, and this is a big one, is that the food is underseasoned.  I am not sure whyt, but every dish needs a dash of salt and/or pepper in it to liven it up. 3 stars
As a bar it is top notch. Â Great selection of wine, vodka/bourbon/scotch/tequila and beer. Â The decor is inviting with a lot of wood and subdued tones. Â The bartenders know how to pour you a proper drink. Â My friend nick and I made the mistake of ordering double Gentlemen's jacks on the rocks the first time we went. Â They brought them over in pint glasses. Â Wait, what was i complaining about. Â Kenny the bartender always does a great job. Â 5 stars
recommended.
I would give Rainwater 5 stars but for their desserts! Having said that, the restaurant was terrific. Very warm ambience, comfortable seating and table size, and knowledgeable staff. The fried avocado appetizer was unique, just zesty enough, and delicious. Tuna burger was moist, full of flavors and topped with crunchy goodies. The lobster grilled cheese with three cheeses was satisfyingly greasy but perfectly crisp. Lobster really came through! I would have preferred more crisp on the duck leg but the glaze was delicious and not too sweet. Boring spinach - not a trace of garlic or salt but who cared :) I was eating it with duck a l'orange! We were a party of six and not one of our plates disappointed.
Review Source:There aren't enough pleasant, pretty affordable restaurants in the 'burbs. So I would like to see Rainwater survive. I tried it when it first opened, when it was just meh.
Went back the other night for drinks with a buddy. Happy to report that we had a nice time. We went there at 4 p.m. and the bar area wasn't quite set up yet. So the staff was a little frazzled -- but very pleasant and eager to please.
We split the generous pitcher of white sangria, which was tasty. And we ordered two vegetarian appetizers: a flatbread with cheese and mushrooms, and homemade potato chips with a blue cheese dip. We were also given a breadbasket with Italian bread, which was pretty good too. The bill came to $35 plus tip.
Everything we were served worked fine for a carb night. Nothing was spectacular. But if I was in the neighborhood and wanted a place for a drink with a friend, I would definitely go back. (But not sure I would go here for dinner or lunch.)
Rainwater Grill is a great spot for drinks with friends, coworkers, and looking for someone across the bar/lounge atmosphere. Â Nice televisions to watch the games. Â Big place for Yankees and NY hometown football teams.
Apps: Â Mac and Cheese, Sliders, and Beets: Â all really solid
Brunch: Â Frittatas or Crabcakes. Â Can't go wrong
Dinner: Â I love the hangar steak
Staff: Â There is always a friendly face behind the bar and food is delivered on time. Â
Decor: Â What a nice place to go to. Â Bring the kids or for an non expensive option in Westchester or bring a date for a very good wine list and a very intimate place to enjoy a night out.
Summertime: Â They open up the doors to the sidewalk and parking is never an issue with a parking lot steps away.
We love spending time here.
My husband and I went here for a late brunch a couple of Sundays ago. The food was pretty good. The service was not so good. We were in the bar area because they had a party going on, so the bartender was our server. The problem was that she was swamped, so it was a little bit of a struggle to get any attention. I'm not docking a star because I was told that they were under staffed and that wasn't a normal scenario. Â I would definitely come back here on a Sunday to watch football. They have a lot of TVs, so no complaints.
Review Source:Save your $$$. Do not go. 2nd time in less than 3 months. Â Service is good and attentative. Food was not good. Salty and Separated for some strange reason. Calamari (small portion) was overly salty and lost among the hot peppers. Â Similarly the special mozzerella (fried) was way too salty. (Get the picture). Yellowfin tuna sandwich was okay and side salad was not mixed and had little dressing. Â My wife had a tuna salad and the salad which not mixed together. the penne-like pasta for the kids had no flavor whatsoever. They cannot even oversalt their dishes consistently. Â Sad. We had hoped for better.
Review Source:I ordered the mushroom ravioli. It was pretty disappointing. It was a ravioli the size of an individual pizza stuff with thickly chopped mushrooms... and that's it. The pasta part was almost cooked to al dente (just not quite there yet). There are so many good things you can do like make a decent ravioli stuffed with ricotta and portabellos in a broth, I was surprised.
But everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. Maybe I just ordered wrong. Bummer.
Fantastic restaurant, lounge with an imaginative dinner menu and a really tremendous bar/sampling menu. The homemade chips with blue cheese fondue, and hot and sticky wings are off the charts good. Sliders are hit or miss, with the miss still being quite good, I'd avoid the grilled calamari, it was very much over-cooked when I had it, despite the flavor being very good.
The drinks menu at this bar is also very fun-many sweet and very original mixed drinks are served in martini glasses. Be wary though, as they each cost $10, which maybe the norm in manhattan, but cannot be fully justified here.
The staff are beyond attentive and courteous; phenomenally helpful and knowledgeable-genuinely enthusiastic about the food/drinks.
