Go twice, they know you're name. Go three times they remember your bev of choice. Went almost a year not going there and when I came back, they knew what I wanted from memory. Pretty cool. highland square gem for sure. Small patio that we all get snowed/rained on for a quick smoke outside in bad weather, but it's cool like that, kinda a 3 minute bonding experience with a shiver and a wink cuz ya just get it. Is what it is. Small, simple, cozy, the anti-barley house joint. Shot and a beer place where you know everyone but maybe you don't know their name. Just a wink and a nod, cuz you're a regular. Too cool. And talk the Tribe with the bartender Timmy. You'll have an instant friend. Out.

Ray's pub will always hold dear to my heart. I used to go there all the time when I lived in the Square. During the day, sit outside and enjoy the sunshine with a nice cold, cheap beer. During the night, it can get a little busy, but the decor comes alive with the black-light mural of Highland Square on the wall. There are darts you can play, and booths to sit in, a jukebox to play and plenty of weird and interesting people to get chatting to.

Ray is such a sweetheart, be sure to buy him a shot!!!

From the Guide to Being Drunk off Your Ass in Highland Square, Revised and Updated Edition, 2012:

Annabell's is the punky dive bar, Matinee is the cool hipster bar, Square is the stylish gay bar, and Ray's is...well, just a bar, bro. Its adjective-less nature makes it the least pretentious of them all, so points for that, but it's not a particularly good basic bar and generally falls to the back of the pack when compared to the area's other drinking establishments. It has neither the food of the Matinee nor the fun of Square, the beer selection is crappier than Annabel's, and all three of those other bars mix their drinks way stronger than Ray's does. Still, the clientele can be pretty interesting at times, serving more as a melting pot of various different Akronites than the other places do. Of course, there's also a fair amount of douchebags. All-in-all, Ray's is best used as a nice change of pace when you're out booze cruising through the Square and you need a respite from the other bars' see-and-be-scenes.
