Wish I could say more. A friend chose this spot for lunch...With all the choices you have in Key West, I wouldn't waste my time here. The service was awful. I felt really terrible for some of the employees as their was a manager or employee who was yelling at them. Everyone who worked there looked so miserable. If management was better, I bet this place would be wonderful. The food is what you expect for a fried seafood kind of restaurant. One of my friends had hair in her food. I'm sad to say, this is my first poor review on Yelp!
Review Source:Visited on 6/29/2013, Waitress was Yanet C and she was friendly. Â Service was extremely slow at the table and it was not crowded. Â The server did not know product information of the menu for allergens. Â She had to get the manager on duty to assist and he did not much about the food prep for allergens. Â If you have food allergies, eat here at your own RISK! Â Indoor climate is open air with fans and it is NOT truly air conditioned. Â Food was good but nothing special.
Review Source:With so many options for dining in Key West, I would avoid this place. The place wasn't overly crowded but it seemed like the wait staf was overwhelmed. Our waiter was friendly enough but was either flustered or just thoroughly confused. After a very long wait for our food, a couple of our orders were mixed up such as bringing out the wrong chowder and getting side dishes wrong for the entrees. Additionally the assistant server spilled half of a bowl of chowder on one of the members in our party. I understand that it was an accident but there was zero attempt to make up for the mistake for the conch chowder bath. Finally, there is no AC in here like a lot of places in Key West and I would have enjoyed the dining experience more if they had more fans to circulate air. I guess it's really not an issue as I don't plan on coming back.
Review Source:Went to the key west aquarium and decided to stop by this place for lunch with my bf's family. I ordered the burger which was tasty with fries. I also shared the dolphin sandwich and it was great. Nice and crispy. Sandwiches were huge and for dessert we had key lime pie. Place is had fans on because it was in an outdoor setting.
Review Source:We came to Red Fish after searching for a non-touristy, good seafood restaurant. Red Fish has a great location near Mallory Square and close to our hotel. Â We were very pleased. We got seated right away (we went early on a Wednesday) at a window booth, which allowed us to feel a nice breeze and over look the street scene. Â My son had the stuffed lobster which he enjoyed very much. I had the broiled snapper - fresh, well done. The crab cakes were tasty - more like fish cakes than the Chesapeake crab cake - but delicious. Also worth noting we're the Mojito and the key lime pie. Â We came upon the restaurant by accident due to a mix up with another reservation. We are glad we did.
Review Source:YIKES, the service. I waited with three family members outside in the street, in the long line to the entrance...there was no one at the hostess booth for a good ten minutes and one waiter finally ran by and grabbed the first two people to sit down.
We were waiting, after the initial ten minutes, for THIRTY MINUTES (I timed it) before a server came by and yelled out to the line of about ten customers, "It's a minimum thirty-five minute wait for all tables." I responded, "Well, ma'am, I wish we could all have known this thirty minutes AGO when we all arrived." She said, "Well it was a thirty minute wait then too."
......Okay well thanks for not telling anyone that and just leaving people in a line outside. I had been once before and had similarly terrible service, though I enjoyed my dinner that first time. This time, we didn't stick around to find out.
Service was horrible. Waiter seemed to always be in a rush even though our party was there at 4pm. Out of our 9 dishes, 4 dishes were wrong. They also told us there were no oysters for the day even though another table received a dozen after us.
The "dolphin" sandwich (mahi mahi) was very bland with no flavoring at all.
The chicken sandwich was over cooked and tough.
Their corn crab chowder was flavorful but did not have the consistency of chowder but more of soup.
Overall this place should be avoided for dinner.
It was our first night in Key West and this place was right next to our hotel. The food was so so. I had fish & chips while my wife had the flounder. We each had drinks, nothing special and the place seemed a bit un-kept especially for the prices they were charging. Tasted like frozen food, conch fritters were bad.
Review Source:The Yelp app led me to this Suess-elicious restaurant on my first evening in Key West. Â A few other spots on the water had long waits, and we were hungry and didn't want to deal with a pseudo-frat-party scene. Â This place ended up being perfect. Â We were seated right away and ordered the fresh catch of the day special, which ended up being grouper (a huge plus for my dining partner since we were on a grouper mission). Â The portion was huge and came with rice and steamed broccoli. Â Neither of us finished (though wanted to because it was so good) and had enough leftover for lunch the next day. Â Plus, it didn't cost a fortune and the atmosphere was mostly calm and mature. Â Our waiter was also personable and down-to-earth.
So if you are looking for red fish or blue fish, or just a tasty fish, come here to eat a fish instead of drink like one. Â
"Today is gone.
Today was fun.
Tomorrow is another one."
Stopped by to try and grab a few drinks and a light dinner after watching the sunset on Mallory Square. Â Sat at the bar. Â Service was terrible. Â Bartenders had a "we don't care" attitude. Â Aftter waiting 45 minutes for an app, we gave up. Â With all the other great options around here, don't bother.
Review Source:I visited Key West during low season and discovered many restaurants were closed for the month of September. Â So, I decided to just eat wherever I found myself, which is how I discovered Red Fish Blue Fish.
I stopped in for dinner and ordered the fried seafood platter. Â It was awesome and I was impressed by the amount of food, over 30 pieces of shrimp, scallops and fish. Â A little lemon, some cocktail sauce and an ice cold draught beer were perfect complements. Â Service was efficient and friendly.
Red Fish Blue Fish, just steps away from the dock at Mallory Square, is a great place to eat before or after watching the sunset.
I went here on a recent visit to Key West hoping for some great fresh fish. I was craving my favorite, Mahi Mahi. They had a Mahi sandwich, which I ordered and it was decent, but nothing I'll remember for much longer. I've had better fish in Florida for sure. The servers were good, food ok.
Review Source:Enjoyed my visit here. It had been raining heavily that evening and the place was pretty dead. The service was good and the food was great. I'm not a big fish plan but due to the name I decided to try the fish and chips. Great choice. They were perfectly cooked and the portion was sized for a giant. Our large party of 8 passed our food around and everything I tried had great flavor. Â Reasonable prices and good food. Not the best in key west but a good choice!
Review Source:I was at Key West and looking for a late afternoon snack and stumbled on this place since it was near my hotel.
I order the Mahi Sliders and wife ordered the Beef Medallions.
The service was very friendly and quick.
The Mahi Sliders were awesome.
The Beef Medallions were good also. They didn't taste like Filet to us but they were still very good and cooked exactly like we ordered them, medium rare; red warm center.
If this review were on the food alone, I'd give it five stars. Â However, there are a few things that I have to criticize about.
The waitress, while very attentive in the beginning, seemed disappointed that we didn't want to drink alcohol. Â She took our appetizer order, that we clearly stated was going to be for our meal, and then walked off before taking the kids' order. Â We had to track her down to get their meals ordered. Â Then, our meal came out a good 10 minutes before theirs. Â We had to wait a very long time for refills on our drinks. Finally a bus boy came and took care of us.
Also, I was quite disgusted to find a pubic hair inside the stack of extra napkins that were brought to us. Â It was really gross. Â I would have complained, but at that point, we were almost finished, so what was the point.
The food is very good, on the other hand. Â The kids really enjoyed their chicken fingers and fries and we devoured the mahi mahi fingers and buffalo wings. Â
We may try again, but hope to get a different server! Â And definitely don't want the pubic hair again. Â I was dining with my family...not Clarence Thomas! Â LOL!! = )
I was planning on hitting Margaritaville and devouring the Volcano Nachos for lunch this one particular afternoon but I was hot, needed a stiff drink, and stumbled upon Red Fish Blue Fish. Â It was a great accidental lunch spot. Â
Hands down THE BEST chicken sandwich I think I have probably ever had in my 31 years of existence on this weird planet of ours. Â I was so sick of hamburgers and sandwiches but I needed food so I ordered the chicken sandwich with coleslaw. Â Even the coleslaw was good, that's when you know a place doesn't suck!
Sat at the bar and had a touristy drink, which I hate to do, but it was a pina colada with a dark rum floater. Â It was amazingly rummy ;) Â The bartender was friendly but busy and surprisingly the restaurant was jam packed but there was ample seating at the bar. Â Not sure what it's like at night as far as the bar scene but I would definitely go back for the food. Â When you get sick of hamburgers and sandwiches and wings and blah blah blah try their chicken sandwich here it'll have you cluckin' all day. Â Just watch them roosters trying to sneak attack on you they are very determined!
We needed a place to cool off and have some good food before we headed to the airport, and Red Fish Blue Fish fit the bill. I had grilled Mahi Fish Tacos which were pretty darn good. My teenagere had mahi fish and chips which were more than he could eat. The atmosphere was nice with high ceiling and lots of ceiling fans. The staff were all very helpful and polite. Our waiter kept the iced tea coming as long as were wanted. I can't say this is the finest food we had all week, but we enjoyed the place and will come again next time we're in KW.
Review Source:I was visiting in Key West this weekend and was wondering how the place would be in such a tourist area of KW but i saw it on Yelp and looked good and had a decent rating so i thought id give it a try.
i was very impressed that the quality was so high for the price and location!my son was happy getting a boat shapped dish for his hot dog meal too,lol
I had a great salad with Maui Maui and the waiter Dennis was so acomidating when i asked him to change something and he  had a busy lunch too  lots of tables and still managed to check in and make sure we had a great experience! Hope others take a chance on this place even though its in a typical tourist spot very good!!
Disclaimer: Only had drinks here with loud rowdy Miami people.
Came here in a big group of 10 of us in what I will consider our own version of a pub crawl. We sat outside and ordered a ton of drinks, beers and shots. The waitress looked at us like we were degenerate lushes.. (blushing). After our binge drinking in the patio ended we moved it inside. This is where the real fun began. Our bartender was amazing he was very "colorful" and I loved him! He was cracking jokes with us, took a shot and made us feel right at home. We were able to watch the UM game there so the boys were very happy. I can't speak for the food, we didn't eat. But, great little stop on your way to Mallory Square.
Being the Dr. Seuss fan that I am, I went for the name and stayed for the food. Eating here was my first Florida mistake.
Red Fish Blue Fish is situated just outside of the vastly popular Mallory Square. After having eaten here I can only now assume they stay in business because of proximity crowd flow from the square of people who don't know just how mediocre the food is.
The restaurant was a mix of varnished dark wood, bizarrely positioned dramatic track-lighting and beer regalia. The servers and hostess were pushy about alcoholic drinks but fairly stingy with the water. The food was delivered by the busboys and the waiter acted like he was doing us a huge favor by wandering by now and then to offer us drinks. We got the crab and artichoke dip to start with, and it came as a huge greasy oil puddle with some dip at the bottom. The chips that came with the appetizer dip were brightly colored but too flimsy to actually scoop the dip with.
The jambalaya was recommended to us and praised to have quite the spicy kick, but when it came it was just a puddle of tomato sauce from a jar with rice and meat bits floating in it. The server offered some Tabasco sauce to "kick it up another notch" but when you start at notch 'zero', there's only so much vinegary Tabasco can do for you.
The Southwestern Salad was the blandest non-entity I have eaten in a long time. It literally did not have any flavor, despite promises once again of a "flavor kick." It had more of the same flimsy tortilla chips on top, a scoop of black beans and a few pathetic shreds of cheddar cheese accidentally strewn about.
The best thing I can say about Red Fish Blue Fish is that we ate food. We did not get sick. It is close to Mallory Square. If you are deathly allergic to flavor, spice, and good service, this place is for you.
Loved this place!
My parking meter was about to expire in 30 min so I ducked in here to grab some conch fritters and my first key lime pie slice.
They were very understanding that I was in a hurry and very accomodating. The fritters were really good especially with the sauce they gave. Somewhat spicy but not too much.
The pie was SO GOOD! I'm not a big lime fan but this was awesome.
The service was great! I dined alone and they came and talked with me and made sure I was taken care of.
Great!
The name peaked my interest so I decided that my friends and I would go in. Â Over all the food was over priced and a little bland and the service was poor. Â When trying to order a drink the waiter recommended some house drink but then said I should pay for top shelf liquor. Â I asked him if the rail liquor was any good and he said he didn't know.
I don't think I will be back here again as there are much better places around.
The service here was not the greatest and was pretty slow. Â The waiter forgot my daughters drink and did not bring it out until quite some time later. Â And when the dinners came out, they forgot one of them and it took quite a while to find someone to tell about it and then another long time to get it! Â Also, now that i think about it, we were never asked if we wanted seconds for our drinks!!
The food was ok, just sort of average. Â My fish would have been decent I think but it was overcooked so kind of hard to tell.
Oh, yeah, and there were pigeons flying around which buzzed one of our table mates...love wildlife but a little worried about one of them crapping on our food ! LOL!
Stopped in here after sunset one night.
Food is ok. I had the calypso shrimp pasta. It was tasty but nothing they don't do as well at Olive Garden. My partner had pecan snapper which I don't like but he thought it was great. His came with garlic mashed and broccoli. The broccoli was fresh and not over cooked which was nice
Service is very good, quick and efficient.
You can do better in KW, but you could also do worse
Fried everything!
Red Fish Blue Fish is your local tourist-y restaurant. Not too shabby, but not too fantastic either. It was a bit on the expensive side for what it was, but it was filling and relatively tasty.
We tried the famous fried conch, but it was all cornmeal and very little conch. My fried haddock was good, and my sister and dad split the fried shrimp po'boy, which they also seemed to enjoy.
However, the price was pretty expensive for what it was, and their were pigeons walking around everywhere. In short, the meals were good, but I felt that we could have gotten a better deal somewhere else.
Number two son and I stopped in here on Friday, July 16th, 2010, while visiting Key West during our cruise. We had skipped all excursions and taken ourselves all over the place seeing all the sights on our own. We walked several miles going from one end of town to the other and back and back and back. We really didn't have a plan other than eating key lime pie at Kermit's, which I will mention in my review of Kermit's later. Since we didn't know anything about Key
West, we didn't realize we would want to see so many things. You see, Â the Bahamas on the two previous days were awful. We almost stayed on the ship and played mini-golf instead of touring Key West. But, I had to try the pie. It was recommended to me by a friend from work.
Okay, so we worked up quite an appetite with all that walking. Keep in mind that we were on a cruise, and used to eating every hour or so. When we looked at the listing of goodies at the door of this place, we were sold. I'll be perfectly honest and say that it was the "cold beer" that got to me. Number two son was intrigued by the thought of eating "dolphin". I tried to explain that it wasn't a "Flipper" dolphin, but I don't think he believed me.
Anyhow, both of us ordered the dolphin sandwich. I have to tell you that I have eaten a lot of fish sandwiches in  my long chubby life. Not one of them could touch this one. It was quite simply the best fish sandwich I have ever had. The fish filet was HUGE! It tasted really fresh and wonderful with just a tiny little bit of lemon squeezed on it. I didn't even bother with the tartar sauce, although I did put some of my fries in that. Speaking of fries... They gave us enough fries to feed a whole deck on the Conquest! They were perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I had to draw a  line in the middle of the stack and literally force myself not to eat half of them.
We also had an order of conch fritters. They were very good. I could taste the conch, but didn't see many pieces in mine. Then again, I had never eaten them before. Maybe they don't put many pieces in them. I enjoyed a bowl of conch chowder, too. It was tomato based like Manhatten clam chowder. I Â wish you could buy it from Campbell's. I would have it often. It was fantastic.
I chose a Key West Ale as my drink with lunch. I also chose one for my dessert. We decided not to have real dessert  here, because we were going to grab another piece of key lime  pie at a place by the ship that said they sold Kermit's.
When I move to Key West (OH PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAASE let me win the lottery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), I will dine at Red Fish Blue Fish every day!
i enjoyed this place very much! Â the blackened catch of the day was amazing! super fresh and greatly seasoned. Â
we also tried the oyster shooters.  3 out of 4 people did not enjoy (but  i think it was more of a reflection of the idea versus the quality).  the on1 person LOVED it and had 2 more.  definitely interesting, oyster with vodka, horseradish and cocktail sauce.
I usually try to avoid the restaraunts right in the heart of Mallory Square, but we were all hungry and the menu looked good, so we went in for lunch. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of food. Wifey and mother-in-law had philly cheesesteaks and fries which they both thought were some of the best they have had. Father-in-law had a shrimp po-boy which he really enjoyed. I had the blacked grouper sandwich, which had just the right amount of heat encrusting the tender grouper. We come to KW often and we'll be back.
