My boys have been participating in the Red House Band Summer camp for three years now-- this is our 3rd year.  They have always had a wonderful experience!!  The start of this years camp was a bit of a challenge, as sometimes it is tough to get kids/teens together  and all agree on songs to play, how to play them etc..., can be a bit unproductive.  After bringing this to the attention of Greg the Manager and Vince the instructor- that issue was resolved the next day and the band was really able to come together.  The Staff at Red House is amazing!!!   They really look out for the best interest of everyone.  I would recommend Red House to anyone.

Pretty solid place in WC to get your rehearsal on!  As a drummer who unfortunately lives in an apartment, Red house is my go-to spot to rent out a studio every now and again.  I have no experience with this spot as a  live music venue, but it definitely does the job as far as rehearsal studios go.

I want to give them all the stars because I went on Indie Thursday to support some friends and see Picture Atlantic play. There was room to dance and rage with the kids jell-o shots and 22 ounce PBR's my favorite.
But LADIES, DO NOT let the BAR HAG on thursdays night ring you up if you are easy on the eyes! I paid $5 dollars for my 22oz tall can and my male counterpart walked away from the bar with a 22oz PBR, 2 Blue moons, and a jell-o shot for $12....?!?! Bite me bitch! I tipped her too because I felt her life must be so depressing and her night void of crack her only savior, that she must need to rip me off on a beer.

I'll go back to see friends bands but no one i don't know unless I send males to the bar only

Red House does a good job showcasing local bands.  They had a loud soundsystem, a nice stage with pro lights, pro recording, and nice practice and learn-how-to-play rooms.   As a "bar" it is a little lacking.  They have beer and wine sales at the counter outside the music room and no wait staff - so if you want a beer, you go to the counter and wait.  If its a popular band, it can get pretty crowded - standing room only.  The times I was there, it was really loud in the room.  However, they give out free ear plugs at the counter if you ask nicely.

Played a lot of shows here. This place has a great sound system, good lighting and allows hardcore dancing.

We found out about this place from my friend Lauren.  My son attended a week long Rock Band Camp this summer.  It was four days of 1.5 hrs of practicing and the fifth day was 1 hour of practice and then the last half hour was dedicated to their GIG!  Yes they played what they learned during the week for all the parents and family.  It was awesome! My son is just 5 yrs old and this has sparked even more interest in music, he loved playing the keyboards of all the instruments.  So with that, we just signed him up for lessons. Unfortunately, we live over 25 mins from Red House so we are getting lessons locally.  My son will always remember his rock band camp experience.  Also, the staff was very kind and patient with the children...a big plus!

My son has been taking classes here for a few years - Kid's Rock, and now Explore Rock and Roll.  He really enjoys them, and I like that they are something different.  He also had his 7th birthday party there, which was a HUGE hit with his friends.  Watching all of the guests and my son actually play and sing a song together at the end of the party was so fun and a great memory.  I only take away one star b/c sometimes the place seems a little unorganized.  However, the staff is really helpful and they try their best to fix any issues that result of their dis-organization.  That says a lot!

A fun place to go and play music.  Clean, good PA.  The weekly jams are cool.  You don't have to be a particularly good player to have fun and get some playing in.  A really nice group of people accrues at the jam sessions.

Red House can be a little sleazy with money, though.  They charged me for my first and last month when I joined, and then charged me a second time for my last month.  I asked for a refund and was ignored.

Also, billing was done automatically each month, which is annoying.  I am going to make a point of not frequenting businesses that automatically bill my credit card.  The default seems to be getting charged extra.

Too bad about the money stuff, otherwise I would be more likely to go back.

I saw some awesome bands here and played decent shows with my band here. It USED to be really awesome. small place which i love for playing shows where everyone sings along (i have the mind of a hardcore kid haha) but after playing here i left a bag of cymbals here and YES it was MY fault but they didnt even return my calls not even to say they didnt have them. As a popular venue it didnt sit well with me made me to believe MAYBE one of the staff took em. Hell it could have been another band, but o well. Fast forward to now; its bigger, a little better, some staff is cool, other people arent. Last show i played we were supposed to go on at 9 but got pushed way back for them screwing up the lineup, a bunch of people who came to support my band had to work the next day so left. My advice, just go when a big name plays, if not then just go to a better venue.

Poor service, really bad organization, equipment problems (why do your Lexicon units have no power supplies?)  Please somebody open a better rehersal spot!

Red House was a fun spot to hold a 10 yo rocker-themed bday party.  The super-patient and friendly staffer set up instruments (drums, keyboard, guitar, bass, vocals) on stage and taught them all a Queen song (more of a repetitive phrase), then they took a break for cupcakes and presents and ended with a live performance for the parents, complete with stage entrance, lights, fog machine, etc.  It was something different that none of them had done before for a bday party, and all kids participated and seemed to enjoy making loads of noise (if you are a parent sensitive to that....move along this activity is not for you).

5 stars for creative, fun, different type of party that allows participants to become "rockstars" for a couple of hours.  The $250 price is on par with other bday party venues.  They provide their genuine main stage venue with cocktail tables and sofa seating, instruments, sound/lights and the music teacher.  They even passed out earplugs to the kids that wanted them.  No prior musical experience necessary for the kids.  You provide your own food/drink/treats.

2 stars for communication...you have to really be persistent to get to the right person on the phone and they rarely return calls.  In fact, I'd recommend just going down there in person.  They charged our credit card a month before our event and I couldn't ever get a phone confirmation in the days before the party...but once we arrived the on-site staff was great...so you just gotta trust that they'll be ready for you.

The kids had a little more down time than we were led to believe they would and they used the extra time to goof around on the instruments.  Some kids got a little territorial with the instruments, so a little bit of sharing encouragement was needed.   With 8 kids, each had his own station...although I was told if there were more kids than instruments, they could just take turns.

We took video to remember the finale performance.  It really takes parent love to listen to it.  :)  Kiddo would now like to take drum lessons (perhaps at Red House).  I can be down with that...but I think we'll get thru the school year with clarinet before we go down that path.

The place is pretty clean. The venue is a bit small and there aren't many seats when bands are playing. We sat against a wall until somebody moved =P.

I came here to watch a friend's friend perform lol. It was pretty chill. At the beginning, the lighting was kind of weird and repetative I dunno lol. Beers are $4. When we got our Corona & Sierra Nevada (Pale Ale), I noticed that they have those kewl bud-light beers in aluminum cans up in their fridge that I rarely see (maybe I need to get out =P).

All in all, the show was good and the place was chill.

My band played here the other night. The staff is courteous . The sound is great compared to other venues it's size. The sound guy knew his work well. Also the staff was willing to work with you when it comes to suggestions & stuff. I'd play here again for sure.

Red House Studios is an amazing establishment. Wether you are a skilled  musician or even just wanting to learn an instrument, this place has something for you. The staff that work here are very helpful and friendly.

Every weekend Red House is host to live performances by local bands. At these shows they serve beer, wine, water, pizza, hotdogs, etc.

The one flaw with Red House that I have found, one that they can't help, is with the piano lessons. They have recently had trouble with the instructors and are currently short staffed in piano so there are few slots available.

With all these great factors and one minor flaw. This is one of my favorite places to be. The atmosphere is great, the people are amazing and its just an all around good place to be.

I have to say I think the concept of this place is pretty genius. it's like a one-stop-shop for all things music related.

i mean if you want to learn to play there's lessons offered.

If you want need gear, there's a little shop there.

if you want your hyperactive kids to have a musical experience there's the band camp/rock school sort of thing where they teach a bunch of kids each a bit of a song to make coherent whole so they can show off: look ma, I drove my music teacher bat shit and now i can play Green Day!

if you know how to play and need to practice I'm pretty sure you can do it there.

if you know how to play and want to "take it to the next stage" and record, you can get it all done at their recording studio. And comparatively, it's pretty cheap.

and, lastly, if you want to hear live music, they've got a stage. The shows have been hit-or-miss but A) these are young bands and B) you can't get everything right right away. I think they'll fix the set-up as it goes along.

for being in WC, this place rocks pretty hard.

For music lessons, I highly recommend this place.  Also, it looks like the adults in the "jam" sessions are always having a great time.  Walnut Creek is lucky to have a venue like this in town.

i am not sure if 'Stung" sucked big time or the place. That being said, couches are uncomfortble, small room type of venue, speakers are too loud.if you're gonna go there, make sure to bring your earplugs.
    Otherwise, whatever..
I enjoyed Pearl Jam more than Stung and Def Zeplin was like fingernails on a chalk board (I'm too young to remember his glory days.. so i 'd like to think)=)
The funnest part was to watch this guy (in the audience) dance and shake his head. HE was on point!
Stung's main singer is more suited for "Prodigy' if you ask me. He would be perfect for it. HIs body language, stage presance etc is well suited for him to sing 'Firestarter" than  The Police.
Anyways, back to the venue, ..underage...bla, unsignificant..
I dont think i have any interest in going back there again...unless Michael (as in Jackson) comes back from his grave and concerts there.. then, yes, 5 stars and i'm there everyday!=)
Red House Studios is probably good for those local bands and recording artists..

I have rehearsed here and played a show at Red House. I found the staff to be really friendly and helpful with everything (also really funny). It's a great place to meet local musicians and music lovers too.  Some of the people at my show said they wished there were more places to sit but that was the only negative thing they said about the place. I thought the sound was great and the atmosphere was cool.

Bands Beware! Promises broken regularly. If this is the only place you could play your garage is still better.  Keep every piece of paper they give you and bring them to the show.  Or better yet just play some place else.  Drive another 15 minutes to blakes.

interesting little venue. like TINY. the pictures of the place on their website are very misleading; they seem a lot bigger in the picture. i hear this place is like a music school/ recording studio by day, and an all ages venue by night. because of the all ages thing, they only serve alcohol on certain occassions. pricing is alright for beer. it's about $4. the sound guy there is decent... at least he's not strung out on drugs like some of the other places i've played at. i'd like to see what the other venues around the area are like, though, that's not likely cause i don't want to spend more time in walnut creek than i need to.

on a side note, this is the only place i've been where the guy's line to the bathroom is longer than the girls. lame.

$10 cover. they better have a damn good line-up to charge that much and expect me to drive up there from campbell to go check out a show.

aside from that, i'm sure it's a great little music school?

I have mixed feelings about this place. Depending on what you are there for, you will have very different experiences. The practice rooms are nice, and come furnished with decent amps, a drum set, and a PA, so you just plug in and go. I can't remember what the hourly rate was offhand, but it was reasonable.

However if you are in a band and are looking to play here be forewarned that management is not easy to work with. They have a tendency to pit bands against each other, and kick bands off a bill if they feel the band will cut into a show's profits. I understand they have to make money, but I also believe it is important to offer support to bands just starting out.

Basically, if you are doing something at Red House that involves giving them money (renting practice space, paying membership fees, playing a show where a lot of people come to see you), the place will be good to you. Otherwise, watch out.

Also, if you're there to see a show, you should know the crowd is probably going to be younger than you and will make anyone over the age of 20 feel very old.

I loved how this is set-up like a swanky lil club for minors. Food here is okay. I loved the stage. My Friends played a gig here once. They band sounded so professional. It was great.

The Cover is 10 bucks but I'm ok with it.

I really didn't think it was possible for me to loathe a Walnut Creek establishment more than Spoontonics but this did the trick.

One star actually making me MISS the "good ole days" of shows at the Concord Vets Hall or Bourbon Street. And for selling "tickets" at the door by credit card. I hate carrying cash.

So I will be honest and start by saying I did not have high expectations of this place. Maybe it's hearing how a security guard chocked out my friend.

First off $10 bucks is totally out of hand. The guy selling tickets was to busy selling drinks to other people so I almost missed the band I went to see. They also do that skecth thing where they ask people who they came to see so they can "pay the bands apparently". Problem with that is if a band doesn't draw enough people they don't get paid. Sucks for bands on tour or bands just starting out. Or if they play with on really really really popular band.

On the plus side it is all ages with ins/outs which is nice for those who like to catch fresh air or smoke. Also free ear plugs is nice to offer (I'm a hearing advocate).

This place sucks. The staff is rude. The bar is an espresso bar, yes that's right they have a bar, but there is no alcohol served. The room where the bands play live shows is about the size of my own room (very fucking small). They charge $10 per show, which is outrageous considering I can go to Gilman St. and see just as good bands play for as cheap as $4.

Not to mention it's in Walnut Creek so most of the crowd are usually very young and scene as hell.

So I went here to hear my friends band play the other night.

    Pros:

Nice couches on the upper level to lounge in while you're waiting
Soda and water are a dollar even
They make sandwiches (though I didn't try them)
    It's all ages welcome
Free ear plugs at the bar
It's well located next to Pet Co downtown.

    Cons:

    Ten dollar cover charge
Since it's all ages, they don't serve liquor
The room that they have the band playing in is small
The acoustics are so good in the room you HAVE to use the ear plugs or you'll go deaf.
    The bar area is small

I'd go if a friend of mine played again, but a regular bar/club it is not. Plus the average age of the crowd was significantly under 18.

The band came here for the first time on Tuesday to practice.  For non-members they currently charge $20 an hour (2 hour min.) and the room is equipped with a PA system, guitar/bass amps, mics/speakers and a pretty nice Pacific drum kit.  There's a cafe/snack bar by the entrance and a little lounge area in the middle of the building.

It's quite cozy, the staffs are friendly and the rate's quiet cheap.  The walls are not as sound-proofed as you would imagine though; people can hear you play quite clearly from the hallway.  So if your band sucks, like ours, and people out in the lobby look at you with laughter in their eyes when you check out - you'll know why.
