I ventured off my normal path to RedRock Bar to see a band called viynl tap. The band made the night....great stage and dancing area....very roomy. There is pool and darts and giant jinga. It is large and thank goodness smoke free. Beyond this, it is your average strip mall bar. The big negative which makes me question whether to drop them from 3 to 2 stars is the fact that their drinks came in super small glasses and were very weak.....I will give them a pass as maybe it was the bartender that night.
nothing special but with a good band and great friends....you can have a great night.
So far this unapologetically questionable joint has recently emerged as my pre-weekend watering hole of choice.
Thursdays are live band karaoke night, and I've witnessed everything from an inspired rendition of Purple Rain to a single stanza of a Poison tune, as ruined by the Fanny Pack. Â
It's admittedly bad form to offer my critique of the performances, as I've yet to take the mic myself. Â I suppose my stage fright would be reduced if the waitress was able to get the booze to me a little faster. Â Service was a little slow, but it appeared to be due to limited staffing, not the fault of the individual employees.
Despite the minor delays, our server was most excellent! Â A patron celebrating her birthday decided to grace my friend and I with a strip tease next to our booth. Â While we were certainly digging it, security put the leashes on the frivolity. Â The birthday girl revealed her klepto tendencies by walking off with my beer, which our server was quick to reclaim. Â Good save! Â As a side note, I'm hoping Tiny Dancer has a major hangover today as penance for ganking my brew. Â
So the basics? Â Full bar, expansive menu, close proximity to Casa de la Starchy and friendly atmosphere make this place a must, if even only for weeknight merriment.
So, I'm putting 5 stars on the board. Â Salud!
This non-smoking bar has been newly remodeled featuring numerous big-screen televisions, pool tables, extended seating, a covered patio, and best of all, a live band on Fridays and Saturdays WITH NO COVER CHARGE. Â The drink prices are great and the staff is friendly. Â On Thursdays, they have live band karaoke featuring one of the best bands in Dallas and some local singing talent. Â Also, there is no better place to watch sporting events. Â
If you haven't stopped in to see the changes, I highly recommend it. Â It's a great place to go if you don't want to fight your way up to the bar to get an overpriced drink, only to have it knocked out of your hand. Â RedRock is a bar that gives you the same live bands as the other bars, but in a comfortable, friendly, more relaxed atmosphere.
Driven by this place a hundred times and finally decided to check it out on a Friday night with some friends. We were surprised to find a live band and no cover charge...nice. Â Drinks were cheap and the place was decked out with plasmas, pool tables, and some arcade games too. Â Service was fine and even though the place wasn't packed we still had a good time. Â Will be back.
Review Source:Went last night with a couple friends. Â It is a dive bar for sure. Â The live band was decent at best. Â I am sure they would have all done well at karaoke but as a gig band, eh...
The cool thing was the people watching. Â There were some very interesting people dancing, singing along, fighting, etc. Â If you are bored and like to watch and make fun of total strangers then I absolutely recommend it. Â If you are looking for class, style, sophistication, then you may want to look elsewhere. Â It isn't white trash but it is on the line. Â
Service wasn't exceptional. Â Had better, had worse. Â One friend had his beer replaced almost instantly while my other friend about dehydrated.
As mentioned in the previous review, Red Rock used to be called Sterling's. Â We used to venture to Sterling's randomly for cheap drinks and cheap billiards. Â The other places nearby (Cape Buffalo or Fox and Hound) tend to charge $10+/hour for billiard tables, which is fine for people who play seriously, but we just like to have fun. Â So Sterling's was the place to go for cheap billiards.
Now it's Red Rock, and I recently checked it out on a Saturday night. Â They put up some nice patio awnings and a new sign, looks more pleasing from the outside. Â As we walked in, we saw that there was a live cover band and they were actually pretty good. Â There's a stage at the front with a decent sound system, lighting, and a dancefloor. Â It makes me think they are looking to be recognized as a live music venue. Â I was disappointed to see that they got rid of half the pool tables (was 6, now 3) and they combined the two rooms into one, and filled it with seating (tables, chairs, booths, and pub table with barstools). Â They pushed the remaining pool tables to the back left side and added a couple of arcade games (hunting, golf, etc.). Â It's not an ideal setup, everything is squished back in the corner and we kept bumping into waitstaff and other people trying to play games. Â With all that room, they don't need to fill it with so much seating. Â Only about 30% of it was even being used. Â
Drinks were cheap and strong, no complaints there. Â The crowd was interesting. Â All ages, all types and definitely a hole-in-the-wall type of crowd. Â It was great people watching. Â If cheap drinks and cheap pool is what you're looking for, this place fits the bill. Â If you're single and looking to meet someone, probably not the best place.
