Mustang café is essentially the hippy 20's or early 30's crowd. A bit over crowded, the skillful DJs keep the place going with some great music mix and the bartenders are attentive and courteous. Also the drinks are reasonably priced by bar standards and lots of parking space too..

Everything looks great until you run into one of the steely security personnel though!  I guess with the young restless crowd at hand, they dont to take any chances and they weld their powers like pre-age matadors and trust me they do it with some vengeance too.
But if you can manage to avoid or perhaps ignore the routine insults from these muscle guys you should have a great time at this place.

I called the bar ahead of a Saturday evening and was told to arrive before 10:00pm to avoid long lines and  also beat the 10:30pm cover charge ... But then I met a couple of security guys with hugely visible police badges at the gate who immediately told everyone to stay out till its exactly 10pm because the seating inside is still being arranged ...so I just stood around....then the manager came and stood with the security guys... he suddenly noticed people being turned away and immediately interrupted the process saying there is actually no seating arrangement going on inside and people should be allowed to go in.. Well, I should have gone in with my luck right then, but I decided to stay back to finish a phone discussion with a friend.
By the time I was ready to go in, the manager had left  and another security guy already stepped up and stood like a rock at the gate again telling everyone to wait outside due to arrangement going on inside, his colleagues tried to inform him of  the manager earlier directives but he refused to be persuaded and insisted on confirming from the manager, he went inside and stayed for  like 5-10 minutes and eventually arrived back without telling anyone what happened, then after awhile and without notice another security guy stepped forward and started demanding IDs for people to be checked in...

As I got in and walked past an empty reception area, my phone rang and I paused to answer, I felt a tap on my back, another security guy has walked up to me and he goes  " Buddy you gotta walk in now...you cant stand here!''

When I got inside I asked the bartender where I could sit and he pointed out a seating area. I had barely settled on my seat to start enjoying my beer when I felt another tap on my back.  Its one of the eagle-eyed security guys again. He goes "buddy you cant sit here there is a birthday party coming up and the whole section is reserved you have to leave now!", I was going to protest about lack of any posted sign in the place, but he gave no chance "please you have to leave now!" and he proceeded to order everyone in the area to leave immiedeatly.

I decided to go upstairs and visit the VIP section, perhaps I could get some peace right there and enjoy myself. By now it was 11pm, I found the VIP area already barricaded with another security guy standing at the entrance blocking off everyone, I walked up to him and asked why people cant come in, he answered that the place is just not ready to be opened yet, we will have to wait. So I just decided to stand around and enjoyed the drink, the music and the beautiful faces around.

Later, i was just mingling with the crowd and I guess I must have strayed about two steps from the crowd standing right in front of me.. because the next thing I saw was a sharp blinding flashlight hitting me right on the face as I winced. It was another security guy... He goes "you can stand here please move now!"
I walked up to the scurity guy and told him that its my first time there  and that there was no sign to indicate what he just said, and moreover he could have just walked up  to me and inform me instead of using those sharp  penetrating flashlight on my eyes...well the guy just  raged and roared " well I got you exactly the way I am suppose to get you and if you don't like it f--k  off and please do me a favor just get off my face now!..."
By now I decided that I have had enough of the good time. So I stepped away quietly, finish up my beer and ready to go. I walked back to my last security friend; he stared at me, unsure of my next move. I just smiled at him and asked if the exit door is still the same or it has been moved. He nodded that it is still the exit. I took a sign of relief as I made for my car.

well I am still all new to Dallas and just exploring best places to hang out...I am gonna be checking out Slip Inn and Minc  next week...hope to keep you posted on the search for my great places to hang out ....
