After walking in circles looking for coffee Friday night we consulted Yelp and found Rendezvous! I'll admit I was a bit hesitant to get coffee from a bar on a Friday night BUT I'm so glad we did! Though pretty busy we got our drinks fast, the bartender was friendly and the coffee is SO GOOD!!!
Since we were in Flag to get a break from the heat in Phoenix we opted to sit outside in Heritage Sq BUT I would absolutely recommend hanging out here. The ambience is nice and they have window seats perfect for people watching!
Diiiirty martini please :)
I've become more of a fan of this bar recently. Â I think it's because I've stopped being afraid of the bartenders there. Â They always seem to know better than me and take it as a chore to serve me...sorry to inconvenience you with your job.
I held off on reviewing them because, honestly, I don't like giving bad reviews. Â Anywho, I don't know if they had a staff change over the past year, or if they just took some happy pills, but the last 2 times were much better. Â I appreciate the change!
Thanks for the booze and the people watching windows. Â I also appreciate the dimly lit ambiance and the music selection. Â You guys got it goin on.
Experienced this gem as a visitor to Flagstaff, first time on an early morning walk through downtown and later the same day, stopped by after a day of hiking, lunch and shopping with the kids. Â Â GREAT mocha, GREAT latte, and I love the corner location with the big wrap-around windows to view the world (or at least Flagstaff).
Review Source:As a guest of the Monte Vista Hotel, I have often begun and concluded my day at the Rendezvous. Â For a fresh start in the morning, a hot mug of java and a muffin or bagel got me moving. Â At the terminus of the day, a drink at the bar before retiring for the night made for a perfect, usually quiet ending.
Perfect bookends for the daily beast.
This is a great place to grab a drink and hang out. It can get very busy on the weekends but there are a lot of places to sit so it's not hard to just hang out.
During the day they serve coffee and pastries and sandwiches to go. It is very convenient for those staying in the haunted hotel it's attached too.
A great and cozy place to enjoy your favorite drink. The ambiance here is great! It appears quite small when you first walk in, but there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy a beverage. One of my favorite aspects is that a lot of the seating faces large windows looking outside, so you can check out the downtown happenings as you relax.
I've been here in the early day when many people are enjoying coffee and reading newspapers, typing on laptops, and so on. I've also been here later at night when it's a bustling nightspot that's considered among the best by locals. They makes some very cool drinks and carry some very impressive top-shelf bottles that you might have wanted to try but avoided the expense of buying an entire bottle--for example, Midleton Very Rare Irish Whiskey.
Rendezvous might be the perfect place to waste an entire day. It sits on the corner with giant windows perfect for people watching. There's ample seating, a fairly quiet atmosphere, and a wonderful staff. I live in Phoenix but always make time for a vanilla latte when I'm driving through Flag. Â What I previously declared on Yelp to be the perfect latte (from Cartel Coffee Lab) Â I'm going to have to edit to second best. Rendezvous takes the cake.
Review Source:This place is so lovely, day or night, when you can sit at the windows and people watch in the perfect spot. At night it is crowded, but definitely a nicer bar to meet up with people. I think the best part is the day-meets-night menu-- the spiked coffees and teas. I got a whiskey chai last time and it was huge (like, they basically served it to me in a soup bowl) and so good. Definitely the ideal combo before you step back into the freezing cold winter!
Review Source:We were hanging out here on New Years Eve and I loved it. I like being able to get a drink and finding somewhere awesome to sit. The bar is pretty big and then they have a bunch of tables along the walls. If you need even more space you can wander into the lobby of the hotel.
The bartenders were nice and pretty efficient considering how busy it was. I had a mojito that I really enjoyed.
I'll definitely visit again.
For a hotel bar I was really impressed. They had an hot eggnog whiskey chai that was absolutely heavenly. It was a great way to warm up when it was in the mid 20s this weekend. The bar staff was fun and engaging and the place was really packed on a Sunday evening. I will definitely be coming back here next time I visit Flagstaff!
Review Source:Our favorite place we went during our weekend stay. Great atmosphere that allows you to sit at the bar, at the window, or at a tucked away table. Service both nights (Saturday & Sunday) was fabulous & quick. I'd recommend ordering a Dark & Stormy or any of their boozy coffee drinks. Definitely worth stopping in to get a cocktail!
Review Source:Even though the service was slow (and it took 10 min. before the bartender took my order), this place is worth checking out. It's classy!
I very much enjoyed the atmosphere and my drink. Also, the volume of the music playing in the background was perfect, so you are still able to have a conversation without yelling.
It's the bright and inviting portal to the Hotel Monte Vista. Coffee bar during the day - martini bar by night. Looks and feels authentic, very urban and European. Great draft beers - they have Spaten! - and the classiest wells encountered in a long while.
You'd think we had a fabulous experience - it was so-so. The latte took too long. The Earl Gray came in this displacement brewing contraption that I found out was a displacement brewing contraption after trying to pour the tea - liquid and loose leaves - into my mug. The slightly-more-competent barista noticed my ignorant transgression with a combination of horror and astonishment. She was forgiving enough, replacing the order and giving a demonstration of the advancement in tea technology completely lost on me and my better half. The vegetarian sausage and egg muffin was neglected on multiple occasions by completely-incompetent-and- probably-hungover barista - when it did finally arrive it was quickly dismissed as 'fucking gross'. Fair summary from my nearby perch. SMC barista did delete it from the bill. CIAPH barista still doesn't give a shit about it. The muffin from Sugar Mama's was decent - cherry I think. We never made it back for a delectable cocktail. Lingering embarrassment from the tea thing and all...
Most of the time I really like this place, but they can be SO inconsistent. I will have an amazing experience one time that will leave me craving the coffee or cocktail I had for weeks. Finally I will decide to splurge on one again and it will taste completely different. This has happened to me so many times with one of there specialty coffee drinks that I have had to stop ordering it at all. When it's made right it is the most amazing thing to ever touch my taste buds, but other times its so overly sweet or strong that I have to toss it in the trash before I even make it back to my car. Â If they would just work on their training/consistency it could easily be a 5 star place.
Review Source:This used to be one of my favorite bars in town. The bartenders have become egotistical, are not as friendly, and do not make the best drinks anymore. They have also moved in some new bartenders who don't really know what they are doing. The atmosphere is great, the location is amazing, but what I really miss about the bar is the humble attitude.
The specialty drinks when made correctly and consistently are great!
Food selection is poor. The pastries in the case are nothing to get excited about, look old and dreary. What they need is good food because when you have coffee in the morning, you really want a delicious pastry. I did get a moldy bagel one morning. After I had already taken a bite of it and realized there was mold due to the off putting taste, they were apologetic, and made me pay for and eat a stale, hard bagel without mold instead. It is best to pick up Pato Thai for lunch or dinner or a snack even which is right next door and eat it at the bar.
This place is a great little coffee shop. We recently spent a wonderful weekend in downtown Flagstaff and spent Sat & Sun mornings here for their Irish coffee, Americano coffee and some Oolong tea. All were delicious. The young ladies working there were very friendly and offered up some good suggestions for hiking that we were glad we took. It's very clean and has huge windows with bar seating facing outside which is a great way to spend a nice mountain morning nursing a hangover. We'll be stopping here again.
Review Source:The Husband and I made a pact this past summer : spend one day in Flagstaff every week. When it hits over 105 in the Valley, I can't speed fast enough to get to the high country.
Rendezvous is ALWAYS our first stop. We love downtown Flag, and this little coffee house, with it's big windows, open space and historic influences from the Hotel Monte Vista make it so unique. They also have a great selection of teas, coffees and cocktails.
You MUST visit here.
Just stopped in for a quick cup of coffee while getting our day planned out. The quick and skilled baristo served up a latte and cafe au Lait, but unfortunately the 'pastry' case looked as parched as some of the other hungover patrons nursing it that Sunday morning. Maybe its just me, but if a place is going to be labeling itself as a coffee house, please offer more than one choice of pre-wrapped and slightly deflated pastry and an unlabeled bundt cake under a glass dome.
Wish we had stopped in the night before when it's evening alter ego was out to play. It looked to have a nice, mellow vibe and a great bar to get a cocktail. Just don't be fooled by the 'soft' booth in the back. It's not as comfy as it looks!
It's a coffee bar. It's a cocktail bar. DOES NOT COMPUTE. I was overwhelmed by the drink menu, and was very tempted to start my day off with a buzz. They had some interesting takes on "Irish Coffee", like some beer from that ska brewery with a shot of espresso. Sounds gross enough to be awesome.
I ordered a mocha, and it was definitely a 3.5-star mocha. They know how to make coffee, and the concept of this establishment rocks my socks. When I come back, I'll try some cocktails.
I love this downtown bar! It has a very low key and relaxed vibe.
Whether you're there with your family during the day for a pastry and coffee or at night for drinks, it's a really casual and friendly atmosphere.
The decor is inviting and the bartenders are always friendly. Even late at night when it's a "martini bar," it's still accommodating to people who want to drink coffee and use WiFi.
They offer pretty decent specials like $2 french press of Intelligentsia Coffees (between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) and $2 pints of beers on tap after 11 p.m. I believe they have Guinness, Ska Steel Toe Stout, Oak Creek Amber and some craft beers.
Their chai is my new favorite. They offer a bunch of creative cocktails.
I am pretty sure they have Caked cheesecakes and other pastries (with vegan options too) which are pretty good too.
Parking is downtown so obviously it's not easy to find a spot and I would never ever recommend parking at the Monte V Hotel as they boot cars constantly.
Overall, it's a great little coffee house/bar and definitely reflects the downtown Flagstaff vibe.
Great service, even better drinks. I love this place for a casual hang out-- although the music is usually pretty loud. That being said, it's good music, a lot of newer indie stuff, not typical bar-garbage that places like Collin's play. The staff here are great, and they clearly know what they're doing at the bar. If you're feeling adventurous, ask for a surprise: they make a lot of good drinks that aren't "on the menu."
Even better? Cheap drinks.
Super cute place with amazing decor. I love that it is a coffee shop in the AM and a Martini Bar at night. That is just plain hot. People were cozied up to the bar w/ morning papers, laptops, & large mugs of delectable espresso drinks. My kind of place.
We ended up here when we were not able to get the infamous breakfast burrito from the down the street. Hoping that Rendezvous would satiate our burrito craving...
My complaint was that the Red Chile Breakfast Burrito I ordered was promptly removed from a ziplock and microwaved... ugh. Â (I could just picture Gordon Ramsey on "kitchen nightmares".... "You DONKEY!!! You're going to microwave it in front of the customers!!!")
Also, I asked the counter guy what was in it, since i am trying to eat healthy & cut down on my dairy intake. Â He said just chile's, veggies & eggs. Â I thought... i can work with that.... even though it has eggs.
After I paid and left, I opened the bag and saw the sticker on the wrapper that listed the ingredients: POTATO, CHEESE, eggs, TOMATO's (which i do NOT like), & chile's. Grrrrr... i did not want the cheese or potato. Â Not because they don't taste good... but because i am experimenting with a new diet. Â
On the other hand...my soy latte was made to perfection. Â Just delicious.
I will definitely be back if I am ever in Flagstaff again... but it won't be for the breakfast.
Rolled up after the wedding. Great great vibe. Kinda reminded me of places I go to when I am in Echo Park/Silverlake/Los Feliz. Locals looking for a laid back place to grab a drink and chat.
Had a choco-espresso martini which was perfect. Any liquor drink with chocolate tends to be cloyingly sweet, but the ones here were strong (WHOO they got heavy thumbs those Rendezvous bartenders/baristas!!!) and just sweet enough to please but not so much that you couldn't taste anything else in the drink. I also had a chai whisky, which is kinda like a hot toddy - but it is a hot chai tea with whisky in it! It was incredibly delicious, and not too overpowering on either the chai flavor or the whisky. Again, also a strong drink!
Had the pork and green chili burrito (they have limited food items), and it too was delicious. They even heated it up for me.
The only issue I had with the place was for a Guiness and a Choco-espresso Martini, I paid $14! What the hell! This is Flagstaff! NOT LA!! Eh, even then, it didn't stop me from ordering more booze and food!
Sidenote - while not a gay bar in the WeHo sense of the label, it is def where the LGBT community seems to congregate (confirmed by a lovely gentleman who we conversed with for most of the evening).
One of my favorite late night places in Flagstaff. Â Nice people, fun bartenders, good drinks. Â Their Mango Mojitto is the best there is.
If you are more of the morning type, they also serve delicious coffee! Â When I worked downtown, I spent many mornings enjoying coffee and chatter at Rendezvous.
Classy, classic looking place with interesting beverages.
My coconut vanilla mango Chai was really unusual. Or maybe we just don't make 'em that way in Texas? It was extraordinarily creamy, sweet, foamy and tasty, though I honestly like a bit of tea flavor in my tea, which was about the only thing it was lacking! The glass it was served in was a nice touch. I thought it was odd that they offered a shot of one of various liqueurs in their Chai, till I tasted it. I could see any number of sweet alcohols complimenting it well.
Fella seemed to like his Americano, also served in glass.
We sat at the bar hoping to read our new books for a while, and unfortunately there wasn't a lot of alternative, comfortable seating.
Rendezvous seems like it'd be far better as an early evening bar than a coffee shop for cozying up with a good book, but it's still miles ahead of the average in-hotel cafe! If I were local, I'd love meeting here for a pre-dinner drink with friends or my man.
Probably one of the best bars I have ever been to. Fantastic drinks. The bartenders are extremely knowledgable and creative. Just make sure you sip slowly and drink lot's of water--they are very generous with their pours!
I haven't had any of the espresso drinks, but they always smell and look outstanding.
Rendezvous adds class to the downtown Flagstaff bar scene.
I highly recommend their mojito with raspberries. Also, you can't go wrong with an espresso shot to keep you energized for the night.
I wish they had vegan options in the baked goods, but otherwise this place is great!
Swanky cocktails, fun window seats that let you look out at people walking around downtown, and a classier ambiance than most of the other places you could go drinking in town.
Great place for drinks and sweets! We went there twice in a long weekend in Flagstaff - once for martinis, and once for coffee and cake.
The Mint Passion is AMAZING. Do try it. The gin shaken with cucumber was a little strong for my tastes. The lemon sexy (their version of a lemon drop) is probably the closest to the actual candy I've ever tried.
In addition, they make a mean cappuccino and a delicious chocolate cake! It can get a little loud, but it's a fun place to head after dinner!
Being from the SF Bay Area in CA - the prices (as the other reviewer mentioned) did not shock - as a matter of fact I thought they were a bargain! $8 for a HUGE Makers Mark Manhatten. I mean HUGE. This thing had to have had 4- 5 shots in it easily... anywhere else $12 bucks in CA and probably about $15 in NYC. So really - one drink and you have had about 2 - 3 drinks of typical size. That is the value.
The ambience was lovely the evening we were there - the bartender was friendly though not overly so. We sat at the window (pretty much every seat is a window seat except right at the bar).
Definitely a great place to start or end an evening or start a morning (with the coffee not the bourbon :) )
Best drinks in Flag!!! A bit on the pricey side, but being from Scottsdale, they didn't shock me too much. The atmosphere is great and they have great music. The crowd is a bit older, which I like, and the cocktails are amazing. Great to come on a cold winters night for the hot chocolate or angel butter. Come early cause seats fill up fast. Great mojito, too.
Review Source:I really liked the atmosphere here and the barista was a delight. Â The french cafe inspired decor is warm and welcoming and the layout with counters along the windows is a great setting for people watching or warming up while you eye the weather.
Like a true European cafe, they don't have brewed coffee. Â I had an americano, which was very good. Â This place should be high on your list of places to sit and chat in downtown Flag.
Charming coffee shop and bar in old town Flagstaff connected to the Monte Vista Hotel.
We ordered a Latte and Americano and watched at one of the large windows facing the street as a "monsoon" came in and scared the other tourists. Â The female barista was not overly friendly which I found curious in a tourist centric part of town but the beverages were good.
Old town Flagstaff is definitely worth a side trip. Â Be sure to check out the lobby of the hotel.
