Old school hole in the wall bar.  Dont expect much in the way of amenities.  But, GO THERE!!!  Tremendous burgers with old school value.... Great prices and huge burgers.  For lunch, it's pretty much a one person show at the bar, on the tables and in the kitchen.  Its a low overhead operation but, well worth the little extra wait.  I AM TELLING YOU!!!  STOP IN FOR A VISIT.  The person working there is a hard worker, very friendly and one heck of a cook. Looks like a dive bar.  Is a dive bar.  But it's a friendly dive bar with cheap GIGANTIC mugs of beer.  Lots of stuff on tap.  Also, the Garlic Burger is one of the biggest and best burgers that you will find anywhere - and it's cheap too!  Pretty sure it's cash-only, but you won't be spending much to get a lot.  Phyllis, the owner/bartender/cook is cool too!

This is my new spot. Old tin roof, long old bar, juke box, uneven old pool table, and the right attitude. Burgers are huge an amazing. Classic good food. Cold beer in 3 sizes ranging from normal to massive.

This place is the epitome of a townie bar, at least on the surface. Can't always read a book by its cover though. Small, dark, almost eerie, this place would not normally rank high on my lists. I soon realized after watching my other halves downing a huge ass cheeseburger and $5 mugs of Edmund Fitzgerald that this place was a diamond in the rough. Not many bars come to mind where I've grabbed steins of quality craft beer and not had to stop at the ATM for fundage (Word?). It's unheard of. Combine that with one helluva good, fat cheeseburger, the remote to their flat screen TV, and you my friend have an enjoyable night ahead of you, assuming you brought some friends... Don't be fooled by the lack of laser lights and disco balls, this place has just enough going for it, especially the junior pool table! Grab a burger and a stein, you'll be happy you did, and so will your stomach and wallet...

After checking out the lighthouse in Michigan City, we needed somewhere to eat.  Wandering into town we found this place. It looked a bit like a locals-only spot, but after we grabbed our table, the waitress was right over with menus and soon after with cold pints from the Great Lakes Brewery.  My friend and I loved the tin ceiling, old school bar and strange antiquated windows in the bathroom. Once our food came, there was an amazing amount of pickles and the burgers were two-handers. I believe I finished about 60% of mine while my friend finished about 35% of hers.  The burgers weren't large in place of taste either, I wanted to finish 100% of mine, but just couldn't.

Quite possibly the best burger I have ever had.  The burgers are fresh, handmade and HUGE!  We split one, along with the MASSIVE order of homemade waffle-style fries that come with it.  We had the garlic swissburger with grilled onions. The meat was very, very fresh, and when we told the proprietor that we were only having one burger between the two of us, she cheerfully (and rather quickly) brought out two plates -- each bearing a HEAPING half burger of the highest quality!  All of this at the bar of Michigan City's oldest tavern, stamped-tin ceiiling, pool table and all, with the game on the TV.
P.S. This place is close to the lakefront and to the outlet mall, if you're hungry after a day in the sun and/or shopping.
