We went here for a Mother's Day lunch with my partner's mother. It was pretty empty, I think there were more staff than customers.
This place isn't bad, I've had way worse, but it's definitely not great or the best either. Obviously it's just a cafe/ bar so I was not expecting anything that was going to wow me.
The portions are very generous, we had the fried calamari which was pretty good. The mushroom Swiss burger I ordered was supposed to be medium rare but I got medium well, but other than that it was ok. My partner had a pulled pork sandwich that he enjoyed. His mother had meat balls and linguini and I can tell it was over cooked, and didnt really look appetizing. That was enough to feed 2 adults!!!
Now what I could not stand was that the staff were all sitting around at the bar watching tv....they require A LOT of training.
Now what I thought was beyond ridiculous was their martini list!!!!! Holy crap....$8 for ALL martinis. But here's the thing some was made with absolut, stoli, belvedere, makers mark, effn vodka yet they were all the same price! Who in their right mind would pay $8 for a martini at a place like this!? They might want to look over their cocktail list....,SERIOUSLY....
Just wanted to send my props to The River Café for having a decent (and Vegetarian) salad on your menu!  Being a vegetarian, I never expect much from salads when I eat out.  The vegetables usually aren't that fresh and the salad dressing is chemically laden goo, yuck.  When I ordered the spinach salad with balsamic dressing, I really wasn't expecting much but when it came, it was fantastic!  The veggies were fresh (red peppers were a deep red), it was big and the dressing was actual balsamic dressing, made with balsamic vinegar, olive oil and spices.  It looked like the kind of dressing I make at home.  The rest of the food I saw come out of the kitchen looked and smelled great too.  Thank you!
