Ever since some fellow yelpers took a westbank field trip and reviewed this place, I been coming here alot and I am a true fan! Â It is everything the other guys and gals have said and a tad bit more.
I remember this place from way back when I was a little fat kid eating next door at the long closed Pizza King. While playing Jungle Hunt and waiting for pizza, my Dad would tell us not to go anywhere and he would step into the Roaring 20's for a quick sip. Â I always wondered what was behind the black glass door with the buzzer......fast forward to now. Â A 40 something still fat, I found out and I love it!
Ok, dive bar...yes. Â But with class. Â Meaning it doesnt get too stinky or smoky in here. Â Majority red lights , check. Â
There is a very entertaining karaoke night on Fridays. Â The regulars are of the older set, but they are well versed in new music to sing to. Â Gotta see it. Â
All the bartenders I have met over the visits are extremely friendly. Â Make you feel warm and welcome. Â They even break the ice for you with the regulars. Â
There is usually some finger sandwiches or meatballs and lil smokies to grab a snack on. Â They like it too if you come in with some food for all. Â Like that a lot! ;)
I haven't been able to figure out the hours, I'm not sure if its 24 or not. Â I think if its a slow slow night they shit down, but will never kick you out.
I feel very privileged (and like i snuck in) when they buzz me in. Â Always look forward to who is inside and what's going on.
If there was a pizza place still next door, I would repeat the process with my daughters and go in for a quick sip
Y'know when I've gone to this strip mall before, I've only had eyes for Hi Do bakery, so I never even noticed the bar down the way.
If it hadn't been for Joi & John and the Party Bus Wank tour, I would never have stopped here. But y'know it was a pretty cool place. The regulars were funny and tolerant of our nonsense. The bartender makes a good drink and was very nice.
Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area and looking for a homey (if your home is somewhere in the timewarp 70s) experience.
This was an interesting spot that I visited for the first time on a Yelp pub crawl on a party bus. Â I had driven by this place many times on fishing trips but hadn't really even noticed it was a bar. Â I was impressed with the fact that I had to get buzzed in and that made me feel all happy as all the other bars I've ever had to get buzzed in are pretty cool places. Â The bartenderess was very friendly and tolerant of our group (as most of us stumbled in with our outside drinks still in hand). Â Most of what I remember in here was a frightening haze of red light that was much more intense than the red light in Snake 'n Jake's and when I was a child I used to have a nightmare about being trapped in a room with this same haze of red light. Â I have finally discovered that my nightmares as a child were all about the Roaring 20's in that their beer selection doesn't have any local Louisiana beers or special beers at all beyond Bud, Miller, and Coors products... nooooo I need my Abita Amber!!! Â Other than the limited beer selection and crazy red light this seems like a decent spot to experience on the West Bank.
