Besides being a little pricey, everything tasted delicious. Vegetarian and vegan options. You could tell that the people who made the food cared about how it looked and tasted. Kind of a hidden gem in the town. Pita bread was great. Quality over quantity. Left me craving more but not feeling fat when i departed the place. The jalapeno chicken is delish. They had a few local beers  that were surprisingly weak. You have to ask for water because of their go green tactics which I thought was a little strange. The server leaves you alone for the most part which was nice for conversing but not when you are ready for the check and not trying to be rude. Cool art was displayed around the place.

I can't add much to the previews reviews except to report the the french silk pie is to die for.

If you took my advice and came here... You're welcome. Mmm mmm good.

Oh you don't think you have room for dessert....well you do. The bread pudding is a little bit of heaven in your mouth. If you're a chocolate lover, then check out the chocolate silk pie. Not quite at the bread pudding status, but hey to each their own.

For lunch-the Jalapeño line chicken is great!

Ate here while staying for the night on my way to Zion/Bryce.  Perfect restaurant to find!  Great food, attentive staff, delicious specials, pretty easy to find.  I was thrilled with everything, I'd absolutely come again if I was in the area.

Great food, fantastic, attentive service! We enjoyed our meals here (twice in one day!) and would definitely go back.

Portion sizes are good - not too big, and not too small. The prices aren't cheap, but the quality makes up for it. The deep dish enchiladas were amazing, and hubby said the fish tacos were delish. My salad at lunchtime was fresh and tasty, and kept me filled up. The lava cake dessert was okay, but clearly heated up in the microwave, not made to order.  The soups were amazing though! Homemade and full of flavor, and not too heavy.

The decor is funky and fun, and I wished we'd gone upstairs to see more of the art. We enjoyed the art that was on the walls downstairs though.

Only giving Rocking V 3 stars due to the prices!  For an appetizer we ordered the hummus for $9.  What we got was 1 piece of plain pita bread toasted and cut into 4 pieces served with a very small cup of hummus.  It also came with a dipping sauce that really didn't taste good.  For that price I expected some seasoned pita chips with a plate of hummus....served on a platter with some olive oil, olives, and maybe even a couple pieces of feta.  Definitely not worth the price!  The other food was overpriced but tasted good!  Excellent service and staff.

LOVE. yup, love this place. was in town for a hot second from chicago and grabbed lunch here with my lovely aunt who is a new resident of kanab! the food was phenomenal and fresh. waitstaff was great and was super helpful in letting me be sneaky and pay for the meal. how do you not treat you awesome aunt?? only complaint is the food is uber expensive for utah? maybe I was looking for a break from the SUPER HIGH prices of chicago but the food was just as expensive as the restaurant i work at (some items even far more). that was a bit surprising. no biggie and not a turn off, but definitely notable. still an A in my book and would love to return, especially to that great outdoor seating!

Chicken Escalante was an excellent blend of italian and southwestern flavors. It had a touch of cinnamon which worked really well. Filet Mignon for $29 was very good but not on par with a high-end steak house.

If you go, do everything you can (including wait) to sit downstairs. The atmosphere is much better. The upstairs area is awkwardly empty and un-restaurant like.

Amazing find-- stop here!!! I loved it so much that I wish I lived in town so I could eat here every day...it's that good!

Husband and I started with the tomato basil soup-- delicious with the perfect amount of "texture" - you could tell it was fresh made! House focaccia bread with an amazing balsamic dipping sauce as well, yum.

He had the bacon wrapped meatloaf with mole sauce and mashed potatoes. Mole gave flavor with out too much spice. Out of this world good.
I had the deep dish enchilada with chicken. Amazing! I thought the zucchini would throw me off, but it was an excellent addition. And, tons of green chilies! My fave.

Our soup and main course were so good that despite being absolutely stuffed, we had to try their bread pudding with whiskey sauce. YUM!!! So glad we did! Lots of raisins and nuts (walnuts?) and the sauce was divine.

Great atmosphere--- the owner greeted us and sat us, asked where we were from and checked on us multiple times throughout the meal. very attentive and fun guy! there is art on the walls and a little bit of exposed brick. Upstairs is additional seating and art work. Even the bathroom is cute!
Our server was sweet and very attentive.

    Highly recommend this excellent  restaurant!!

In reality I'd give this place 3.5 stars but I went for the 4 rating instead of 3 as the food is good which is a novelty around here.   I had a very nice pork chop.   The rest of the food was good if nothing spectacular.   Seemed slightly overpriced but considering they don't have much competition and you are in the middle of nowhere it's to be expected.   Decor, ambiance etc are also nice.   I don't want to sound harsh on this place as I don't really have any complaints but I think a lot of the 5 star ratings speak volumes about the lack of decent places around rather than the exceptional food.   You certainly wont be disappointed though.

What an awesome place! We got there pretty late at night, like half an hour before they closed, but were never rushed and were given all the time that we needed to finish our food. The menu is nicely balanced and offers something for everyone and ranges from pricey to reasonable, especially taking into account that all the entrees are served with a soup as well. We had the Thai Curry (which we had been craving for some time already) and it was excellent, as well as the Chicken Escalante which was super yummy as well. The Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert was SO delicious, we couldn't get enough of it. Also, the owner and all the servers that evening were super nice and friendly - so don't miss out on this little gem in Kanab!

This little place is FANTASTIC!!!  The service was great, and very friendly.  The owner stopped by our table several times to chat as well.  The tomato basil soup with the bread was delish!!  I had the Rocking V Shrimp which was perfect!  Nice large grilled shrimp over a bed of linguini with a light cream sauce, pine nuts, and peas....mmmmmmm.  I wish I could have finished it all, but I had to stop myself from eating because I has so full.

My boyfriend had the tomato basil soup and the greek salad and said it was superb!  Definitely the best place we have eaten at in a while.  He also had the oatmeal stout beer, which was very nice!  I even enjoyed a couple of sips of it.

    Would definitely stop here again!

The large ribeye was great for both of us.  we added a small salad and that was enough for both of us.  Very good taste and fresh meat.  We like this place.  Great location.  We loved Kanab.  Plus, you can save room for the bread pudding.  That was also very well done.  We arrived early, but it did fill up fast.

Wonderful treasure in small town USA.  Stayed near this restaurant and it looked pretty good, so we checked out the outdoor menu. LOTS of choices and a wide variety of meals.  I had Chan Masala with Tofu and my husband had Thai Curry.  Food was excellent, plentiful and the service was outstanding.  The quaint, funky decor gives the place a friendly and upbeat vibe that enhances the overall experience.

In the middle of nowhere, Utah, this was a gem. I was so sick of eating fast food everyday because there were just no options...until we found Rocking V Cafe.

    Tomato soup: hit the spot...
Roast beef: yummy...so soft and tender at the same time.
My family tried the avacado burger and the chicken wrap. They said both were pretty good.

The server was super nice...and overall just a good restaurant with good atmosphere. We came here after a day's hike at Zion. Ah, I miss it here!

Food was decent. Bread is good, the service is excellent. First time I had the enchilada. Not bad. But definitely not worth the price.

Second time I had the chicken marsala. Not really a lot of flavor to the sauce. Maybe too creamy? I thought it overpriced for the quantity and quality of the food.

The venue is pretty and decorated attractively with nature paintings and such.

In the middle of nowhere there is this sparkling little gem of a place. It's not cheap, but the food, the service, the bar, the location and the ambiance are all winners.

I had the white bean soup with sausage-absolutely killer, then I had the roasted pork with gravy of mashed potatoes and it was superb. Wrapped it up with a warm choc lava cake, also to die for. My vegetarian spouse was also very pleased, altho now I can't remember what she got (I guess I was kind of enraptured by my own meal).

    Try it, you'll love it.

I will always go out of my way to eat at the Rocking V. They offer a wide variety of dishes but I always choose their Thai or Indian dish since good ethnic meals like these are hard to find in many parts of the West.  This is a wonderful find anywhere, but especially in a small town.  Service is friendly, efficient and  knowledgeable. Deserts are enjoyable as well.  Nice art work as well.

    Here is my correspondence to the owner, which summarizes my visit;

    *******************

We are residents if Kanab and let me say I am not a letter writer, or complaint filer. I just felt compelled to relate a situation to you.

We went to your place of business on Sunday 7-22-12 for dinner. I know it caters to tourists, but we had heard a lot about it and thought we would try it.

I am a celiac so I appreciated having options on your menu.

I ordered the Mahi Mahi without the glaze, per your gluten free guide. It said 6-8 oz fillet.

What I received was maybe a 4 or 5 oz piece of fish that was so chewy I could not even get the first bite down. I kept chewing and chewing but no luck. I moved to another end of the fillet and my luck was  little bit better, but I could barely could chew it up at all.

The waitress was very nice and asked how everything was.
My wife said my fish was tough and the server seemed a bit flustered, not knowing what to do, or say.
The waitress went to get the manager who said what's the problem? I said my fish is chewy and she said oh, well what's wrong with it?
I said it's tough.  She said, oh....is it something wrong with the way it's prepared?
I said no,, it seems to be just a poor piece of fish.
Finally..... after hemming and hawing for a minute, she asked if I wanted another one.
They seemed a little disorganized when it came to customer service.

The proper thing would have been, instead of giving me the third degree, for the waitress to whisk it away at the first hint of a problem.

I saw my wife was half finished with her meal, so I said no, I'll just try to do my best to get through it. (My wife had vegetable lasagna and said it was good.)

The manager said, well you can have a dessert on us. Being a celiac, I can not eat most desserts.

I finished my meal and we got our check. That's when I guess my disenchantment peaked.

I looked at the bill and mine was $24.

$24 for a 5 oz piece of dried fish, 4 tiny broccoli pieces and 4 tablespoons of rice is just shameful!!

We have another home in Southern California, so we are used to higher prices and the value of that meal is off the bottom of the chart.

Have you ever thought about giving a locals discount?

Even $18 for that meal would have been too much, in my opinion.

I paid the bill and left thinking that $12 would have been about right for that meal, if it had been good.

Seriously, I could have gotten a better fish dinner at Golden Corral, or Chuck-A-Rama for $9.

If you want a example of how an excellent restaurant is run, go to The Spotted Dog in Springdale.
I had an excellent experience there a few weeks ago. I got a fish fillet that was over twice the size of yours with all the sides for a modest $15 and the food is excellent.

As of right now, I am not planning on returning to, or recommending The Rockin' V.

    **********************

The owner Victor, emailed me thanking me for my input, saying he was out of town.
He said he would evaluate my situation and get back to me.  I really didn't expect him to follow up with me and he didn't.

Bottom line, I believe this place gets a lot of local publicity, maybe even referrals from local inn keepers, but it is geared to tourists that probably will never return in most cases anyway. Therefore value and customer satisfaction do not seem to be a big concern of theirs.

The fact that my wife said her meal was decent, is the only reason I even gave it a two star rating.

Had the filet, 8 oz. tender and absolute perfection, perfectly paired with the meritage. Great atmosphere and a very sweet staff. All around a great experience. Snowed in this town for a couple of days, we'll be eating there tomorrow night as well.

In Kanab this weekend helping the gf.  after a long drive from vegas and some work at her house we break for lunch - we opt to go with a local place - Rocking V.  What a pleasant surprise !

I went with their "ham" burger ($12)- good stuff.  Char broiled burger, juicy, slight pink center, a mini slice of ham steak, cheese, avocado - it would have been a grand slam if it included grilled onions ! I opted for mac and cheese for my side - rich cheesy, buttery flavor, slightly dry but not a problem.

The gf went with some foo-foo chicken salad ($11) - nice lime flavoring with cilantro.

after her nutritious entree the gf could not resist dessert.  Key lime pie ( $7.50 ) and banana bread pudding ($7.50) with kahlua caramel sauce.  Holy cow, these desserts were top notch !  The key lime could have used a little more tangy-ness to it but man oh man, the velvety, smooth flavorful caramel sauce is still on my mind !

Yes, the prices are a little high but dang, i'm sure it costs a little extra to get the ingredients delivered here !

If i'm in Kanab again, I'm eating here !

Definitely the best little spot in Kanab! Everything we had was great. There were five of us and we all thought are dishes were worth the wait. I personally loved my wrap. It was fresh and tasty.

We  arrived to Kanab on Tuesday & didnt get to try it until Saturday due to their hours of operation. That's the only bummer but totally understanding being that the town is so small.

The  ambiance was cool. It kind of reminds me of the little spots and boutiques in Venice Beach, CA. Decor, music, etc.

    See you again my friend!

Having been chased out of our campsite by blizzard conditions, we drove up highway 89 through the mess to take refuge in Kanab.  We were ready to eat, and more importantly warm up.

As we drove through town, my partner in crime kept mentioning that he felt like eating soup, so we passed by the fast food joints in seach of something more wholesome.

From the outside, through the snow, the Rocking V looked like one of the few lively places in town, so we pulled up and headed in.  Though the restaurant was technically closing, the gracious hostess told us that we could be seated, but only for soup and salad.  PERFECT!!!

From that point on, we enjoyed the environment, the fireplace, and the general homey, welcoming, warm feeling of the people there.  The soup and salad was very good, the tomato soup in particular was fantastic.

Then came the coup de grace, dessert.  After watching the bread pudding emerge from the kitchen and land on a neighboring table, my buddy decided that we had to have.  And boy was I ever glad he did!  The triple-cocktail of whiskey, chocolate, and caramel sauces was to die for, smothering the warm, moist, rich bread pudding.  It's a desert I won't soon forget.

Thanks you to everyone there who went out of their way to accommodate us, and make us feel like family.  Great food, better people!  I can't wait until I'm back in Southern Utah again for my next visit!

I ate here at lunch the other day with my friend.  I ordered the Hoo doo chicken sandwich on the recommendation of our waitress and it did not disappoint!  The chicken was served on rye (homemade variety) with mozarella, artichokes, and some kind of aioli.  The potato side was creamy, egg-y, and flavorful.  My friend ordered the greek wrap.  She enjoyed it, though it looked a little plain without the feta.  (She is allergic to dairy).  Her side choices were limited to the bean/corn salad because of her intolerance to lactose.  Still, the salad was delicious.

The service was great.  She was attentive, informative, and more importantly, hilarious.  I generally do not give five stars for lunch, so I will reserve my complete rating when we try dinner!

I highly recommend stopping here if you are in Kanab or in any other place nearby.

    Holy find, Batman!

If you find yourself in Kanab - likely on the way to the North Rim or if you're staying near Bryce or Zion - the Rocking V Cafe is a must-stop. Incredibly friendly folks and truly delicious food here.

We had chickpea appetizer, fish and the polenta, wonderful wine and homemade soups. Warm and delicious. This isn't your mother's diner food, folks. This is real good cookin'.

And there is an art gallery to boot! Definitely winning.

If you can make a reservation, do so, I was surprised at how busy this place was. But it was worth the wait for a table.

Although it was a bit disappointing that by 7pm they had already run out of 2 of the 3 specials, but I guess that's a testament to how good this place is.

If you look up their menu online, don't let the entree prices dissuade you, they all include a bowl of soup and dinner bread. So considering the quality of the food, it was definitely worth the price.

I ordered the special, Tilapia Fish Tacos with Curry vegetable soup. All good and fresh, I think the Jicama slaw that came on the side with the tacos was my favorite part.

I'm so glad I found such a great place, I'll be back if I ever return to Kanab.

Great place. Been here a few times before. OK when I say as good as it gets it's because Southern Utah hasn't been known as a Foodie Destination Point. The areas scenery is one of the best in the world but finding a restaurant that compares to the Scenery is well, pretty well none existent.

How do I know? Been exploring this wonderful land for over 25 years.
This areas most notable dish is the Navaho Taco. A Navaho Taco is Fry bread cooked in some animal lard and filled with meat and maybe some lettuce and cheese. Gulp, no offense to the Navahos.

The Rocking V is Rocking out with Quality and Freshness. Also throw in great Service(thanks to Jennie our Waitress) but as soon as you walk in the door you feel at home. I had the Rocking V Shrimp. Perfectly done in a light butter/ cream sauce with the perfect selection of herbs served over Linguini and served with a delicious salad. Linda had a mouth watering Almond and herb coated Chicken Breast, served on a bed of Yukon Gold potatoes and the serving was graced with a perfect Marsala/Mushroom Cream Sauce.

Doesn't stop here. The Dessert, OMG!, a Carmel Pecan Cheese cake. You know there are your cheesecakes and there are CHEESECAKES! This was a CHEESECAKE(Kind of between New York style and Heaven)! Don't usually have dessert(they are usually not worth it) but we splurged so that we could enjoy the Homey atmosphere a while longer.

On top of it all, we were Entertained by some great other Customers who had just spent their day at sightseeing this Amazing Country(Zion for Instance) and other Fellow Volunteers who had just spent an amazing day Volunteering at the nearby Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Yes, the Restaurant is busy. Make reservations if you can. But just go if you can't. (Visit the BFAS if you can)! Our Best Friends need you!

Sorry for the Book. I don't give many 5 stars if any!
PS: Warning stay away from Calvin T's down the street.

When I'm on a road trip, I like to be the lone tourist in a sea of locals. But in a place the size of Kanab, the best joint in town happens to be one that caters to everyone, including and especially those passing through.

Rocking V is indeed rockin'. Walking into the small dining space you'll instantly get hit with a wall of conversation from the many patrons sharing the space. Don't be intimidated or put off, though, as you'll soon find the atmosphere to be very entertaining and the food as good as advertised on any of these review sites. The desert mojitos were the highlight of my meal, and the solid food ain't bad either. The real gem here is the attentive waitstaff and the owner, Victor, who is off the charts with energy and wit. Truly a man who loves his job and wants each person to have as much fun dining in his restaurant as he does running it.

    Buffalo steak!

We decided to reward ourselves after a long day hiking around in Zion National park with some Buffalo. I am a girl that comes from the land of beef, the buffalo meat was a refreshing change. It was delicious and was cooked perfectly to medium rare.

The service definitely has that small town charm and upstair is a gallery that is worth the visit. Each piece has a title that would make anyone smile.

If you ever pass through Kanab, you should stop by this place and stuff yourself silly with Buffalo meat (my opinion)!

Stopped for dinner on a Monday night in the rain at 8:15pm en route from Moab to Bryce. REALLY wished I had found a hotel in town so we could have relaxed here and eaten at our leisure - but we were eat-and-run, at least to the degree you can do this while eating delicious soup (tomato-basil or broccoli-gorgonzola) and then salmon tacos (the 16 year old), the enchilada bake (the 19 year old), the veggie stir fry with miso-marinated tofu (me), the smoked trout appetizer and Greek salad (the DH). Everything was DELICIOUS and we would love to go back if ever we drive through Kanab again!!!

Interesting that we heard Spanish, French, German and Russian then one couple from San Francisco (we are from Oakland). It's clearly a waystation at night for people in search of that delicious meal.

    Highly recommended!

You know what's a really big surprise? This place is in Kanab, UT.

The lady that runs this place would do very well in Southern California. The vegetarian options were great and everything just looked so good! The atmosphere is wonderful and the service was spot on. I really appreciated how much the owner's husband cared about the customers.

It might seem that the prices are high, but it's worth every penny. I had the quinoa, tomato basil soup, and key lime pie. They even made my Manhattan the right way. Everything was perfect.

This was, by far, the most wonderful and memorable meal of my trip.

Back quite late  from a long hike in the north rim, I decided to give a try to the place with such high review marks.
The place has a very nice ambiance, a lot of (expensive) art in display and a diverse menu.
The food was good, everybody enjoyed it.
A bit pricey though for a place like Kanab.

An oasis, not just in the Utah desert, but in the world of restaurants today.

Nearby: the "Grand Circle" of National Parks including Zion, Bryce Canyon, the Grand Canyon, Vermillion Cliffs, Moqui Cave, etc.

Vibe: Hip and cool without being uncomfortable. A sanctuary for everyone from the road-weary traveler to backpackers to highbrow elite. Art gallery upstairs is free to browse and is not pitched during your meal. Decor is tasteful and inspired. Seating is open and pillows are offered to keep your back comfortable.

Service: two waiters were on duty during my meal. Both were attentive and friendly with each table. They were busy, but not rushed; kind, but not unprofessional. It seemed like they knew **exactly** how to run their business. Kudos for excellent waitstaff.

Food: The price may seem a little off-putting at first ($11+ for lunch entrees), but I guarantee that I would have paid $20 for my meal. I ordered the Jalapeno Chicken upon my server's recommendation. This was a true gourmet experience (without the gourmet price): the perfect balance between hot and cold, sweet and heat, texture and creaminess. The chipotle black bean salad and the jicama coleslaw were an amazing compliment to the chicken breast which was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned.  It is rare that I don't find the need to salt or pepper my dish; this was the exception. Menu is diverse but concise, well thought-out. Dessert menu has 5-6 options, which I wish I would have tried. Serves craft beers, domestics, mixed drinks and your run-of-the-mill non-alcoholic beverages.

To be quite serious, this restaurant probably served the best dish I've ever eaten. It makes the decision (to visit one of Utah's National Parks again) an easy one.

Five stars. World Class. Bottom line.

What a great find in a small rural city - totally unexpected. Food was solid, but the service and proprietor were great. This was the busiest place in town and I can see why. I hope the place continues to thrive and thus the higher rating.

Verdict: a gem in the desert. Great place to eat if you're visiting the area's national parks.

Kanab UT is out past where the sidewalk ends. It becomes much more difficult to maintain quality and reasonable pricing when you are 100 miles from your supplier. In spite of the challenges, Da Vee delivers a quality meal at a reasonable price with a great atmosphere and stellar help.
Rocking V would be successful in places where there was plenty of competition. In Kanab and for 50 miles any direction, I have found no competition.
Unless I was looking for chicken fried steak.. my guess is the Vee would cheerfully forfeit on that competition.
