Ugh, why can't this city do anything cool in terms of the gay scene? This bar was nice, but it seemed more like a cheap shiny import than a legitimate establishment. And what about the retail crowd? Everyone I met was a cashier or some twentysomething with no goals in life trying to find any reason to go out and save himself from the misery of the day.
Perhaps this is the type of guy this bar attracts?
And I knew something was bad when the place started emptying at about 12:30-1:00am. It was literally mass exodus the likes of which hadn't been seen since the Israelites in Egypt.
And how tacky is it that the owner comments here and gives 5 stars?
I was in Albany recently and decided to go out to see what the gay scene was like, and I have to say, I am totally shocked. Â I walk into this place around 5p, there were about 10 to 15 people - who ALL said hello to me. Â I sat at the end of the bar and started chatting with a few guys - little did I know one was the owner, the others were employees. Â Peter, Alvin & David made me feel right at home...they were funny, witty and just all around nice guys. Â I ended up going back the next night, walked in and everyone was like "KEVIN"..nice! Â It was underwear boy night and the place was packed...and FUN! Â I had so much fun at this place, that I would fly back just to go there again.
Review Source:I went for a hotboi auction last weekend and it is what you expect. Lots of naked bodies, PDA (but where aren't you going to get that at a gay bar??), sensual dancing and drunkness. I'd say it's not as chill as Waterworks but this isn't that kind of place and it wasn't that kind of event anyway. It was definitely a solid time, and I'd definitely come back, although most likely, I'll hop back and forth between here and Waterworks again.
Review Source:Rocks is located across the street from Water Works, in a location that used to be called, at different times, Players, Club 77, and Billy Jacks. Â Peter and Lance, the new owners, did a *major* rehab of the place (gutted it and started from scratch), and they've come up with a fun, neighborhood bar that caters to men of all ages. Great bartenders, fun party nights, and a large deck out back - what more could you want?
UPDATE: They have now purchased and renovated the building next door into "Club Rocks", with a beautiful new bar, huge dance floor, stage, and game room with pool tables and darts. The club is usually only open on weekends, but it's definitely a welcome addition on the party nights when the bar gets crowded!
