Horrible! If you enjoy paying 10 dollars to get into a closet/ hallway. With overpriced drinks. Then you are heading to the right place with 960.
Why is this place even open?? Before entering fir the first time we asked the bouncers how it was inside and if we could take a glance to see how the vibe was. he told us it would be worth it and he couldn't let us peek because of security reasons?? Right..? 10 bucks. :/ really... we decided what the heck its 11:30PM on a Friday night things must be good. the music is booming from out here.
We walk in and it was like walking into a hallway.. Â 4 people on the dance floor. 2 people at the bar and then the 3 of us. WOW... well lets just wait it out see if it becomes better.
NOTHING. HORRIBLE. 10 dollar drinks and an empty closet space. We learned out lesson that night.
I sent 2 messages to the owner describing what happened that night I was there two weeks ago.
To sum it up:
1) The men's room had a clogged, filthy toilet with someone's poop water overflowing onto the floor
2) Both the male bartender and the bouncer did nothing about it for more than 2 hours after I told them
It has been close to two weeks since I sent the messages to him, and I have yet to hear a response.
If the owner replies to the message, I will remove this update, but if he doesn't, it will stay. Â It says a lot if a businessperson totally ignores issues that a customer had with their experience.
Haven't been here in years as I've been living in San Diego the last 2.5 years. Anyways, this review is not based on my recent experience but my experience as a whole since the place first opened. Was super excited when this place first opened as this is really now the only club in Hartford county that plays good house music. Love the atmosphere, and the people.
My only problem with this place is that I know this club has a lot of potential and it seems like they don't get enough big name DJ's for a place like this. Sure in a few weeks Gabriel & Dresden is playing...but that's not enough.
I'm used to places like Voyeur where everynight is a big named DJ and that's what drove people there. I'm sure if 960 did the same, it would be more popular.
Regardless of that, I love it and I'll be going back every week!
PROS:
-Nice atmosphere
-Decent sized dance floor
-drinks are fairly cheap
CONS:
-Place is kinda small
-Not enough well known DJ's play.
-Needs something else in it to make it stand out more..to make the place unique...there's still just something about the place that makes it feel generic still.
Generally, I stick to reviewing restaurants but every once in awhile there is a club worth reviewing. Â Room 960 is it. If you've never been, go. Â If you're picky about your music and your crowd, you'll like it here. Â It's upscale, trendy, chic and it's a great place to people watch if you're fortunate enough to get a table. The drinks are average priced and generally mixed well. Â There aren't classless sluts all over the place... everyone here knows their place in society and acts the part. Â Towards the end of the night a bad seed will get a little loose, but hey it's fun to watch!
Review Source:I drove down to Hartford, CT for a benefit show being held at Room 960 this weekend. Â I've been to plenty of clubs in NY, Miami, Boston, and overseas and here's why this club gets 5 stars (and I'll be honest, it might have more to do with the SHOW we saw than the club itself):
-No real dress code
-Small, which is code for intimate setting
-Cheap drinks ($6 for a Malibu/Cranberry; $4 for Bud Lite)
-Cheap cover charge ($10 for a benefit? Â I've paid more in NYC for resident DJs)
-Plenty of couches that still have an excellent view of the DJ booth
-Bar staff was really friendly (door guy, not so much)
We saw Randy Boyer (awesome) and TRITONAL - who haven't made it to New England prior to this. Â All of these guys were totally accessible, friendly, chatted with their fans and let us take pictures with them. Â No attitudes and they ROCKED the club that night. Â Seriously, this was the 2nd best show I've seen, second only to Armin van Buuren at The Roxy.
Now with all of that said, here's some other things to consider:
-You will probably get approached to buy drugs. Â This threw me off as it hasn't happened to me since I was in my early 20s. Â
-You will probably be surrounded by a bunch of people rolling. Â They're harmless really. Â
-For some reason, half the girls in the club had that bizzaro Kate Gosselin haircut. Â I am still trying to understand why. Â
-The other half of the girls looked like they stepped out of their Barbie Dream Houses. Â Ken was left home for the night. Â This surprised me immensely about Hartford.
-If you are unlucky/lucky (depends on your perspective) enough to be there on a night when "Sara" is there (some local, I presumed), you will probably be "treated" with imaginary pole dancing and likely get flashes of her underwear since she can't seem to keep her dress on for more than 15 minutes at a time.
-Otherwise, the people there were really nice - chatted with a few other girls who were there for the music, and it showed. Â The dudes were friendly, but not pushy or obnoxious
