I'm a regular at RTC, and go everyday at around noon because it's walking distance from my office. Â I am most definitely not bothered at all eating there 3-5 times a week because the food never lets me down. Â The menu is extensive and every changing, which I like. Â Also, the staff is very accommodating to changing up menu items to your liking. Â The portions are HUGE, and you never ever leave hungry. Â The staff is great, everyone is nice as can be. Â They've become a little family to me since I've been there, and I've interacted with the owner, his son, and his daughter. Â All are great people, keeping the diner business alive and kicking!
Also, FYI to everyone, the restaurant is called Round the Clock because in the past it was open ROUND THE CLOCK, however, now the owner doesn't find that profitable. Â I could definitely see why, Valparaiso isn't really "popping" after 10 pm. Â :-p
Round the clock has the best breakfast around! Â I love to go here for breakfast and I can get it at any time of the day or night. Â I usually get the french toast combo which consists of two texas toast size french toast, three strips of bacon, hashbrowns, and two eggs.
There is a small koi pond with goldfish at the entrance. Â Whether you're a regular or a first time customer, everyone stops a moment to view the pond. Â
The waitresses are usually very friendly and efficient. Â The restaurant has always been clean. Â I love the old Hollywood photos at the Valparaiso location. Â Great place for casual dining. Â
The turkey bacon club is another favorite of mine. Â The portions are more than generous. Â If you leave hungry, it's your own fault. Â There is a vast menu and something for everyone.
Round-the-Clock is your typical Midwestern restaurant. Â They have just about any Americanized food that one can imagine on their menu. Â Then, in addition to all of that, they have a selection of Greek food. Â As is true in most restaurants in Indiana, the portions are huge and the food is high on the comfort list. Â Â
It's not really what I'm into but it's nice for an annual comfort food fix.
I am giving Round the Clock a solid 2 stars:
One star for the small but pleasant fish/turtle pond by the entrance featuring a plastic alligator head.
One star for solidly OK food.
I do have a list of complaints....
Round the Clock Restaurant is not open round the clock...I was led astray by their less than subtle name.
Our server was nice, attentive, and friendly to all tables but ours. I am truly confused why that happened. I went with two friends, we were polite and friendly.
We were there for Saturday brunch and their "Greek" menu items consisted of old fashioned American food with feta. Feta does not equal Greek. Period.
