Tacky, touristy - and tasty! Â An island paradise in the middle of classy classy Reno. Â Located on the walkway attaching Circus Circus and El Dorado to Silver Legacy, Rum Bullions is dead center near Silver's insane center spectacle. Â We hit the bar around 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, and were treated to friendly and quick cocktails by supercute bartender Cody, and great tunes playing overhead. Â My mai tai was YUMMY and went down quick, no thanks to TWO rum-soaked cherries on top - yowza. Â Drinks were delicious, a rum soaked good time was had by all. Â We also just had to sample their jell-o shots, served up cleverly in large plastic hypodermic needles. Â Photo op! Â Watermelony (I think - does it really matter?), and yummy fun!
A very fun escape from the casino chaos, and zero complaints about the cocktails. Â Stop in for a drink or 5, and continue to buzz your way through your day - I look forward to returning for the flaming kava kava, and some live music!
A bard dedicated to rum drinks, yes please. I noticed this place by the two life size Captain Morgan statues out front. I'm already in love. They weren't open at that time but I came back probably fifteen minutes later and they're open and I'm the only one in there. I ordered the Jamaka me crazy which has I believe three types of rum, pineapple juice, orange juice and sweet and sour. I started with the cherry and I swear that itself had me buzzing. The drink was amazing, it just needed to be served out of a coconut to be complete. Then my girlfriend shows up and we both have jello shots, except they were two gigantic shots. The bartender was awesome, the place was full of bright colors and just a good vibe. I'll come back to Reno for this place.
Review Source:Love the bands that have been playing here lately. Â They have been a blast. Â The music is always good and the drinks are fantastic. Â Some of the bartenders aren't very friendly and seem a little snarky. Â The cocktail servers are always very nice though. Â Great location and I love that there is no cover charge to hang out here. Â Love taking my out of town friends here.
Review Source:This bar is trying to be something tropical but it's not even close. It looks like an old warehouse with some colored lights. Drinks are okay but nothing special. Simple drinks like a Pina Colada are watered down. Then again, nothing tastes very good in a plastic cup. I'd rather pay another dollar for some class.
Review Source:Good place to come for food, drinks and entertainment.
We came here with a group of people about 10-12 and got seated in the back which was nice because it was great for large groups and you get the view of the dance floor. We got to be with our party and also listen to a live band while enjoying some cocktails.
The bar itself was fine. Â At one point we saw a really good band. Â There was a really big dance floor and they were a lot of fun. Â But...... the dueling piano players is what brought us in. Â Now, I have seen dueling pianists in New Orleans and Vegas and was VERY excited to share this experience with my husband and best friends. Â I slipped them my $20 along with my request and began to get really excited. Â I wasn't exactly sure of the official song title so I simply called it the "pussy" song. Â (cat reference) Â Btw, this is a very popular dueling piano song. Â Anywho, I was informed by the pianists that they couldn't play it because it was inappropiate. Â This was a family atmosphere. Â Umm, hello? Â It was 12:30 am AND we were in a bar in the middle of a casino!!! Â Are you kidding me? Â I was less than thrilled! Â Of course, they kept my $20 and gave me TWO other requests. Â Ohhhh, lucky me! Â Next time, we'll pass on the pianos. Â If you haven't ever seen a show, please don't waste your time with this one. Â I don't want it to taint your experience of what it really should be!
Review Source:We went on a Friday night, the live band was great and the staff was amazing. Very friendly and quick to fill our drinks (we went through a few). Â We tried the house "Island drinks" that were fun and full of booze! Prices are reasonable and the drinks were potent! Great place to people watch and just have fun. Bartenders are very friendly and Dre will make you a "special" drink for you lady....I'm all about that! All and all, a great time....and we are locals. We will be back to watch Avery, Nikki and the Asian guy that does the Tom Cruise bottle stuff....awesome!
Review Source:When I came here they were doing a duelling pianos thing and cracking the "men vs women" jokes. Kind of meh... Super crowded and my boyfriend couldn't flag down the bartender and finally some ladies at the bar did it for us but by then I lost my desire to order. Very disorganized.
Crowd is a little on the older side.
Pianists crank out the tunes nicely though. The vibe is overall very fun, but I wish service was better.
My tiki obsessed husband loved the flaming drink they served him. After 2 minutes he realized that there was no way he'd ever finish this drink. Way too sweet. Worth it for the picture of him with the huge tiki girl glass.
This place is perfectly themed and usually has some kind of music going on. Great place to people watch.
Not a big drinker, but my drink seemed pretty lite on the rum. Also, our waitress had to notice our 2 for 1 Silver Legacy coupon laying on the table when we ordered. Do you think she'd say something like, "oh, I'm sorry, we're not a casino bar and can't honor your coupon"? Nope. She waits until she gets back to the table with our watered down drinks to tell us. My bad for thinking that a bar fully under the dome at Silver Legacy WOULDN'T POSSIBLE BE A CASINO BAR. She never even bothered to come back after dropping off those drinks  I suppose she thought that giving me five ones in change would earn her a tip; think again sister. We WILL NOT BE RETURNING.
Review Source:Short walk from Brew Brothers, no real dancing, but very fun.
Slightly older, non-jersey-shore crowd, but perhaps just as drunk and having just as much fun.
Great service from the bartenders, dueling pianos were on their game, and did the best with a less than active string of shy audience participants.
Solid crowd on a Friday night. They didn't kick us out. I will definitely be going back. :-)
Friday night they had a live band. Country/rock type, two females singing and playing on the piano. Decent crowd, drink specials start at $8.
Watched the Niners game here Saturday, it was cool. Flat screens were not the best visually though.
The waitresses seem understaffed at times, and perhaps to that are forgetful? Also, dropped a bunch of cups on the floor ha. Sucks to be them.
I went to Brew Brother at El Dorado Saturday night and it was more crackin and also had a live band. Definitely would recommend that place over this place if you want to be around more people and dance more.
Came here on a Tuesday night, Gong Style Karaoke an A+
The place got backed after 8pm and from what it looked liked there were a lot of regulars. They seem to have a few different things that go on in there. They had a dueling piano set up in there but on this night it was all about the GONG and karaoke show. I like the gong idea, almost like a hook if your jokes suck! You don't have to sit and let your ears bleed to some bad off beat singing. You can walk up and GONG them and they gotta stop! One rule i think is, you have to let them suck for a minute before you can gong them.
The place on the inside is nice, just like any other island themed bar and the service wasn't all that bad either. The signature drink is a Mai tai style drink is a bowl with a shot of 151 lit on fire for you. I believe it was $13 bucks? Damn good but kinda small.
The place gets 5 stars for the entertainment value alone! =)
This is a cute bar. Â A little over-the-top with the whole rum-beach-bum theme, but then again, it's in RENO and not only that, in the middle of a CASINO. Â So in this case, bland just isn't the name of the game.
It's in the middle of the Silver Legacy complex at the edge of the atrium where you can peer down at the gamblers below (and contemplate spitting one them....okay I would never do that, but the thought of it did make my inner kindergartener giggle). Â The bar gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights, but it's worth a visit at least for the dueling pianos. Â Not that they really "duel" so much as collaborate....but they can be pretty entertaining regardless. Â For the price of a small donation, the pianists will take requests from the audience too.
During the day, it's a pretty chill spot to just sit and sip on a cocktail. Â Good people-watching, especially if you're sitting in the little "yard" area. Â Drinks are reasonably priced too.
Love this atmospheric bar situated in what would be the engineer's cabin of the mining rig. I don't gamble so this is my regular hangout when I'm staying at the Silver Legacy. The bar's patio is always a softly lit, starry evening underneath the casino dome (reminds me of the restaurant at Pirates of the Carribean, but more rustic). It's a nice place to people watch in calm amidst all the hubbub; the drinks are tasty and the service people are friendly.
Review Source:Sat down.
Pretty waitress came over and said she'd be back.
Pretty waitress never came back.
Ordered from the bar.
Got a Berry Blaster and Mojito.
Took the drinks to the casino.
Drank.
Not impressed for $7 drinks.
I think Smirnoffs flavored bottled drinks do more for me.
Typical bar atmosphere - loud, security/bouncer at the door, dark, sports games on TV.
Sidenote: Order from the Casino Cocktail girls ... they might make stronger drinks.
2 stars for the pretty waitress and my fruit punch drink.
A fun spot amongst the chiming bells and winning screams of the casino. I really enjoyed the relaxing feel of this bar while sipping one some very strong yet sweetly balanced run cocktails. The bartender's were very good; heavy handed with great personalities.
Go with the Kava Kava. A whole lot of rum with some 151 on fire. Pretty cool and quite tasty.
My absolute favorite watering hole in Reno. It does give off the Disney vibe with all the Caribbean pirate motif, although I like that. They even have crickets chirping on the "outdoor" faux patio and the surrounding gaming areas.
The rum drinks are great, well priced and strong enough to not need too many of them, although with the high levels of sugar, 2-3 should be enough for anyone. Dre the bartender is the best! If he is working, have him make your drink. It's rare that someone's natural personality fits a theme for a bar as well as his did.
They had dueling pianos which was fun, as fun as that sort of thing is, hearing the same 25 songs you always hear at any piano bar. Looking forward to going back during a week night for some of the other specials.
On a Sunday night (4th of July weekend) this wasn't a bad stop. Reno, while no Vegas, has its own "charm," if you will.
Rum Bullions is one of the better bars in Silver Legacy because you actually walk into it. Some of the other "bars" feel like just a bar counter in the middle of a casino, but not an actual venue you walk into. The atmosphere at Rum Bullions is cool - we went on a night where the dueling pianos were there. Oh snap.
Again, this is no Vegas show, but because it was mildly raunchy and funny and loud, and the piano guys were actually talented (they busted out a rendition of Red Hot Chili Peppers. What?!)
Oh, and the drinks were yummy, perfectly mixed. We were seriously undercharged for the drinks we ordered, not sure if that was on purpose or on accident! but that made me happy nonetheless.
Yo ho ho, and a bottle of rum!
I have been visiting Rum Bullions periodically since my 21st birthday (I'm 28 now). The main attraction here is the entertainment- duelling piano's. one of the piano players has been there everytime I go and he always remembers me. I highly recommend this bar if you are out celebrating anything, they will bring you on stage and sing to you- it will be embaracing but it will be for the good of the night. Bring cash so you can request songs and pay to stop songs (this usually becomes a battle of the sexes to keep one song or another going).
The drinks are great however it often takes a while to get one, this bar gets really crowded. Price is about the same as most bars. If you go with a few people try one of their island drinks that come in the big bowls. I usually get the kava kava.
If you go to Rum Bullions go to party, I can honestly say I've had some of my craziest nights there.
Why is everyone so down on this place? If you don't like the music or the themed bar, go someplace else! Yes, this place is aiming for a certain audience, like any good business, it's not for everyone. If you like the live piano, singing cheesy bar songs, and tropical drinks, then you'll love Rum Bullions.
I live three hours away, but once or twice a year I will drive up to Reno with the specific purpose of spending a night at Rum Bullions with a bunch of my friends. The piano players are amazing! for a small tip they will play just about anything you can request, so if you don't like the music, just request something different. Rap, country, rock, pop...you name it they can play it, and their singing isn't bad either.
The bar isn't that big and they do tend to get crowded so you want to get there early on the weekends. Years ago they used to have live music five days a week but now it's only Friday and Saturday. :( Â Drinks are a little overpriced so if you plan on getting hammered be prepared for a large bar tab.
I rarely go to bars to sing, dance or make friends. I usually prefer a quiet dive bar where I can play darts and talk shit with my buddies. But, on the rare occasion I want something more, I don't go clubbin, I go Rummin!
Fun place to go. Depending on the night it can be touch and go because they have different themes. Gets pretty busy but they have an area outside of the main bar that you can sit at as well. It's inside the Silver Legacy, so it's great if you're staying there, don't have to call a cab!
Review Source:Rum Bullion is what you'd get if you crossed Chili's or Apple-bees with a Tiki-Bar. It has the glossy tropical theme with a boatload of signature rum drinks at mid to high price points. If you like the safety and familiarity a restaurant bar provides, but want to feel a little more "adult" while on your Reno trip....then Rum Bullion is probably a good bet for you. I'm more of a dive bar guy at heart, but even I can respect a place like this when my wits are not fully up to snuff (I can't always be on guard to avoid a wayward knife strike from a random vagrant, right?)
The service was prompt. The drinks were strong. The location is good (Silver Legacy always lively) and the people watching is fantastic.
Pro-Tip: Try that flaming rum drink for two ($12.50). I came in with a light buzz and after polishing off a little more than my share I was ready to tell my life story to anyone willing to listen.
I probably would have rated this place higher if 1) I drank, 2) was 20 years younger, 3) knew the lyrics to Bon Jovi songs. Â So if I did 1) drink, 2) were 20 years younger and 3), knew the lyrics to Bon Jovi songs, I'd have given this four stars and done a fist pump too.
I had heard SO much about this place that I felt compelled to drag my friend here on a Saturday night around 11:30 pm. Â The place was full, but not packed. Â Lots of happy drunk people: men wearing cowboy hats and trying to look very serious leaning against the bar; girls grouped in inpenetrable tight little circles trying not to look too desperate; the requisite 60-year-old drunk gambler who wandered in by mistake and is trying to dance like a hippie to a Steppenwolf classic being bellowed out by the dueling piano players.
Entertaining for people-watching for sure.
Hammy says:
Have you ever dropped acid and wondered if you were ever going to come back to reality? Have you ever wondered if you even really wanted to? Hammy thinks Rum Bullions is the equivalent to the above two questions. Yeah!! Party until you cannot party anymore and decide that the partying time and impulse has ended!!!
This place is where we always start out our nights in Reno (since we always stay at the Silver Legacy). I'm not really a fan of the inside of this bar, just because the music they play is awful and I hate when they have a guy on the piano singing creepy, dirty songs to the girls in the bar... but I do like to grab a drink and sit on the either the front or back "patio." I have been hassled here a couple times because they thought my ID was fake (girls dye their hair!! come on!) but usually its not too big of a deal.
Review Source:Ugh! Instant headache... Just add Rum Bullions!
This place is DEFINITELY a tourist trap. Â The whole dueling piano thing... Â Enough already. Â Or at least get some new material. Â "I like big butts and I cannot lie..." Â SERIOUSLY? AGAIN?
I get dragged here occasionally, but every time, it's like having "deja-vu all over again"! Same songs over and over, same out of towners and douchey-frat-boy-collar-poppers. At least it's consistent I suppose.
The only redeeming factor is out back (if you can squeeze through the oblivious idiots in the crowd who won't move the F--- out of the way) where they have tables and chairs set up and you can sit around and BS with whoever you came with. Â Forget about talking inside--way too loud.
Skip this gaudy tourist trap and hit Art Gecko's instead, just up the way towards Circus-Circus.
This was probably the most fun we had during our weekend in Reno... We came here on a whim, just looking for a bar to chill at... when we first walked in, it seemed a little crowded at the bar but the tables were all empty... we sat in a corner table just people watching... when the bar cleared out a little we decided to sit up there which made it easier for us to order drinks... The bartenders were totally entertaining... they did tricks cocktail style throwing bottles and shakers in the air and catching them... trying to teach us to pour three different shots from stacked shakers all at once... and they just kept us entertained the whole night. Â They have great deals at the bar and different themed nights as well.
Review Source:My word...
There are positive reviews of this place. Frankly, the place only gets 2 stars from me on account of it's endlessly hilarious name. Rum Bullions. It's the stuff of legends. Only that it isn't.
First: This is a casino bar. Yelping on my phone for bars in Reno was hugely unsuccessful, and largely the reason that I've ended up at St James Infirmary both times I have been to Reno. This place might have had a chance of being interesting if it were not in a horrifying mall/casino. It completely lacks any character (not that there is much of that in Silver Legacy to begin with), and I kind of preferred hanging about the tables on the main floor the El Dorado, even though I do not smoke, and I do not gamble. Wow. Imagine.
Second: Each time I walked past, it seemed as though a different group of sullen young women were sat round a large communal drink looking as though their parrot had just died. Why so glum, with this overabundance of rum and cheer?
Fabulous name. Wish it were a bar out on the street with less of a Disney feel, and more of a degenerate tiki bar vibe. Â Now THAT would be the stuff of legends.
I had such high hopes for you Rum Bullions. Â I love rum. Any which way but spilled, perhaps. Â Being greeted by two huge statues of Captain Morgan was a highlight.
I'm finding it tough to put my disappointment into words. Â Was it the bartender's "you are a pain in my ass" comment? Â The lack of jello shots? Â The daggers from the waitress? Â No music, nor piano playing of any kind? Â I'm just not sure.
Maybe our large group of very friendly women was just too much for Bullions? It might have been because I enjoyed it much more when a friend and I went back at 1:00 a.m. I kicked my heels up on one of the tables out front and had a couple of great conversations with passer bys. Â I might give it another shot.
I usually don't drink rum, but when I'm here I turn into Captain Jack Sparrow. Â "Aaargh me maiteys, cares for anotha sip o me magic elixir." Â Actually my drink here is a Scorpion, a potent but not too sweet, light tropical punch. Â They used to serve it in a kick ass, thick glass, Â tiki goblet but they've done away with that and now it is served in a plastic cup (boo to economics). Â
They have different themes for different nights and drink specials to go along. Â I don't like dense crowds so I stay away Fri/Sat nights as this place is too uncomfortable for me. Â But on other nights, when we want to step away from the casinos, we'll drop in, order some tropical drinks and listen to the dj spin some reggae. Â Aw yah mon, dats how yah doos it right der. Â Scorpions + good company + good tunes = me feeling especially IRIE, real chill, mon.
After a long day of drinking Jack and Coke, and nothing else, while wandering around losing money in Reno I will pretty much hate everything. Â The taste of whiskey in my mouth and a sour stomach is a sure party killer for luis m. Â That being said this place was loads of fun. Â The dual piano show with the hyper enthusiastic performers cranking out one song after another, making the patrons compete for their love through the use of cold hard cash, and the witty banter, it was all a great way to end the day. Â Sure I only hung in there for about an hour before I broke down and went to my room to take a nap, but it was the most fun I have ever had while on the verge of puking and passing out.
Review Source:I've only been here twice, both times on the weekend for dueling piano nights. I don't like this place as much to watch the show because there are barely any tables available and they let in way too many people. I find myself either standing near the bar and just listening to the songs, or sitting in the back patio area, which is less crowded. The drinks are OK, but it's a nightmare trying to get drinks at the bar. Again, too many people.
This is a good place to retreat to when you realize that there's a $15 cover at Bubinga for men. My guy friends didn't want to pay that much, no matter how many skeezy sluts there were pouring into the place.
I'd give Rum Bullions another try.
