We are traveling through Nevada and are having an overnight stop in Reno.We selected this restaurant based on Yelp recommendations. We  ordered the pork chops with some trepidation. We are Iowa natives and know good pork. The pork available where we live in Monterey, CA  is not up to the standards of Iowa pork.  We were amazed to find  really great chops in Reno at The Gas Lamp Restaurant and Bar. Our chops were perfectly cooked. They were more then 2 inches thick. juicy and succulent. We have never seen chops this thick served to such perfection.  They were served simply over the potato mash with a grilled peach on the side.  We chose to pair them  with a Chalone Pinot Noir from our home area in Monterey County.  The other Pinot Noir on the list did not pass the taste test.
This was an  excellent meal. The waitress Jaimie was personable and entertaining and the service was great.  The chef Danny shared his "secret" for preparing an excellent pork chop.  No pork chop in the Monterey/Carmel/Pebble Beach area compares to this.  The only downside was a limited selection of Pinot Noir that would be worthy to be paired with this chop.

Visited tonight on the basis of previous Yelp reviews.  I was with my son in Reno for one night before he begins summer courses at UNR.

The restaurant was not terribly busy at 8:15 on a Friday night; we had reservations but they would not have been necessary tonight.

We started off with the Caesar Salad (with homemade dressing) served in an ice-cold bowl with big shavings of Parmesan and delicious croutons. With this, we ordered an appetizer of Bleu Cheese Garlic Bread; the salad was huge and delicious, and the bread was homemade, crunchy, and had a great flavor combination of garlic, butter, and bleu cheese.  We were glad we ordered these starters.

We enjoyed the piano player, the candle light, and the outgoing personality of our waiter while we waited for delivery of our main course: the famous pork chop. When it arrived, we sort of knew what it was going to look like from the Yelp photos, but we were unprepared for the size: 14 oz of juicy, delicious boneless pork, served with mashed red potatoes and a grilled peach half. I've never had pork this delicious! Folks, do yourself a favor and try this; there's no way you'll regret your decision. What was particularly amazing was the way that this two inch thick chop came out perfectly cooked, seared on the outside but still moist throughout and without a hint of pink.

After conquering this massive meal, it was time for desert; ordinarily, we would have called it quits after such a main course, but we wanted to try the highly recommended ice creams. So for the sake of completeness, we soldiered on. We ordered the almond roca ice cream (made with unbelievable homemade almond roca) and the mint chocolate chip (made with actual mint leaves; no commercial extracts or colorings). The mint chocolate chip ice cream, in particular, will be a taste you'll remember for a long, long time.

The chef came out and made the rounds of the tables, as did the bartender all to make sure that the patrons were happy and enjoying themselves. The warmth of the staff and their pride in the quality of their product was evident, and certainly well founded.

We're only in Reno infrequently (last time was a year ago) but this is my new favorite. It is so far ahead of everything else, that there might as well not even need to be a "Plan B" when we're in Reno.

I had the zinfandel braised steak. This is a fancy way of saying that it's a boiled steak. It came with mashed potatoes and a tomato brisk sauce. Basically it tasted like stew to me, not really what I ad expected. Oh well my bad.
