Excellent place for breakfast! Â No super crazy long line like Mad Batter or rushed service like at Uncle Bill's. Wonderful choices - I recommend the Crab Eggs Benedict! Â Drinks early if you want them - I recommend the Rusty Mary. Great choice of you have the kids with you. $5 meal and it comes on a cute frisbee to keep and use on the beach.
Review Source:We had lunch here yesterday. The menu was diverse with a lot of seafood. The service was great and the atmosphere was good. I had a burger which was great. My son had the kids macaroni and cheese which was excellent. Clam chowder was very good as well. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is a bit pricey. $11 for a burger that did not even include fries was a bit much.
Review Source:I can't say enough good things about the atmosphere at the Rusty Nail. The live music, fire pit, beach views - all fantastic. HOWEVER, the bartenders are by far some of the worst I've come across in a long time. I understand that they are locals and dealing with tourists on a nightly basis is a "chore" for them but their behavior and service is unprofessional and inexcusable. Between palling out with their patron friends and regulars at the bar (mind you, they point and laugh at tourists with their regulars), not giving correct change or only giving bigger bills as change to solicit larger tips and blatantly rolling their eyes when they get asked for an order they don't prefer to make - these guys are the worst. Especially the he gentleman with with black hair and beard who we had the distinct displeasure of dealing with all night. Â Forget the fact that I've been coming to Cape May for 30 years, was a guest at the attached Beach Shack hotel and have 12+ years as a bartender - these bartenders were bad enough to make you never want to come back.
I support what the Cape Resorts group has done to revive Cape May and its historical landmarks. However, their hiring managers need to put more of an emphasis on who they hire to serve the "shew bees" that seem to be such a nuisance to their oblivious bar staff.
I want to love the Rusty Nail, but it never wowed me...and I tried it for lunch (twice) and breakfast, plus some bonfire Miller Monday beers. The service was slow and inexperienced, but friendly. The portions were decent and not too overpriced for the Cape May beach adjacent location. But the food was average and the Cape May Vice I had was too much Pina Colada and not enough Strawberry Daiquiri.
Review Source:Rusty Nail has by far the best fish tacos in Cape May. Call in your order from the beach then just walk over to pick it up.
The food is consistently high quality and very fresh ingredients. At night there are fire pits and live music to enjoy across from the beach. It's just good food in a good location. There's a reason Rusty Nail has been around so long, they do things properly. Enjoy!
We had lunch here because we stayed in Beach Shack and we were starving when we arrived there. The food was decent but a little bit pricy for the quality. I was pretty content about the Nail Wrap that I ordered. The fried fluke (or Mahi?) was juicy and tasty. The clam chowder my friend got was too salty. I highly recommend the peach and banana smoothie there. They may taste plain, but it's only because they are made of real fruit-- but from concentrate or anything..
Review Source:I've been to this place twice and have really enjoyed myself both times. Â Both times I had key lime pie and coffee. Â That's it - so if you're looking for a review of the food read someone else's review. Â While the pie was expensive ($8), it was delicious. Â I like this place for the atmosphere. Â When I was there this past weekend, my friend and I sat at the fire pit and enjoyed the live Reggae band. Â If you go early, you'll find al ot of kids running around and keep in mind that the outdoor seating is pretty much in the sand.
Review Source:Great casual dining experience in Cape May. Â The location, across from the beach, can't be beat. Â The outdoor area was perfect with live music and a fire pit. Â The food was very good. Â I had the fish tacos and my wife the crab-cake sandwich. Â The service was quick if not warm. Â The prices were fair. Â I plan on returning.
Review Source:If negative stars I would. Â All I need to say is SOMEONE SHOULD CALL THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT! Â When our appetizers got to our table we were immediately swarmed with flies. Â At one point there were 6, yes we did count right 6 flies in our appetizer. Â This does not count the flies that we were swatting off of our arms and legs. Â Needless to say we immediately told our waiter to cancel the rest of our order and he dropped off the check. Â They actually charged us for the 2 appetizers and 2 beers that we barely touched because of the fly problem. Â
Oh and the menu also says that in 2009 someone tested the local beer and they have the "coldest" beer in Cape May. Â Someone needs to test this again. Â We were there on a very hot day and the beer was cold, but it was warner than the beer I have in my fridge at home.
Needless to say, I will NEVER go back.
Really cozy! This place is great for a Saturday with friends. Come hang in the sanded area, or chill under an umbrella while the local artist sings covers of Bruno mars ... Such a good time. The service is great. Happy hour specials only include beer, which is disappointing. I'd come back here again, why not?
Review Source:While I do not typically heed the wild ravings of the insane, the promise of a perfect rum-runner did pique my curiosity. Tell me more, crazy lady...
"Rrrrarrrr rrrrarrrrg! Rusty Nail! Rum-runners! Rrrrarrr! Make sure you get em from Bobby, he makes the best rum-runners! Get em from Bobby! Rumm-runners! Rrrarrrrg! I'm crazy!"
We lived in Cape May for a couple of years and not once did I ever visit The Rusty Nail, right there across from the beach. I'm glad that we finally did, on our last trip back down the shore.
It was true, there you can find a deliciously strong rum-runner or five... Pull up a chair in that sandy spot around the fire-pit on a cool early-Fall night. The Rusty Nail is closed for the Winter but keep this place in mind for next season. Take a tip from a lunatic.
Typical overpriced beach bar. Â Many disappointments throughout the night. Â Biggest one was finding a piece of metal in my spaghetti alla vongole (which at $21 the bartender didn't take off the bill, just comped some drinks for us instead...) Â Definitely many better places to go to for a miller lite and some nachos while you're down the shore. Â Very unorganized but I'll give them one extra star for the outside area and having the Eagles on.
Review Source:First time eating here and pretty happy with the experience. Waitress was friendly and attentive. The breakfast burrito was one of the best I've eaten in quite some time. My wife had the bagel and lox which she enjoyed. The kids were served there food on a frisbee, which was creative and made them happy because they got to keep them. Â We ate on the patio situated about 100 yards from the ocean so needless to say the view was spectacular. The prices were more then reasonable given the location and quality of the food. The only negative thing i have to say is they charge way to much for their juices. $4 for apple juice is a bit much. I Will certainly return again, next time to try their dinner.
Review Source:The first night I came here I had one of the best Lemon Drops I have ever had the pleasure of consuming. Â The second night I felt like I was drinking rubbing alcohol. Â It was so bad I didn't finish my drink. Â I'm not sure why everyone likes their special orange drink slush thing because it's worse than crush soda. Â Their Margaritas, on the other hand, are standard. Â Service can feel very rushed especially when it's busy, and towards the end of the day on a beach day it gets busy. Â It is, however, very nice to sit outside in their sand area, but come 10pm, everyone must go inside. Â People staying at the neighboring hotel do need to sleep after all.
