A good place to watch a big sporting event since Buffalo Wild Wings and other large chains can get annoyingly crowded, unreasonably early, before the broadcast. Â Rusty's may charge a nominal fee for a PPV event, but it's reasonable and well worth avoiding large crowds, of course don't expect to be let in if you're running late as even this large establishment can fill up if the event is popular enough. Â As for the food, it ranged from mediocre to OK. Â The Jalapeno Cheese Poppers "Rusty Poppers" were disappointing, as they used a low quality jalapeno with no tangy bite at all. Â The Sirloin burger sliders were plain but it's hard to go wrong with little burgers and the toasted bread they were on was a nice touch; they came with a side of pretty good fries. Â The highlight of the sampler platter was the popcorn shrimp which was particularly crunchy. Â The chicken/cheese quesadilla lacked seasoning on the meat and could've used more cheese, but was toasted OK. Â All that being said, only appetizers were sampled not main courses, and the food quality isn't critical when watching a much anticipated game, so I'd return.
Review Source:I use to come here a lot when I lived on the west side & always had a good time. The staff is very friendly and they have great happy hour specials. There are a lot of TVs, this is definitely a great place to catch the game.
Food wise, there is a great selection of bar food, burgers & sandwiches and some bigger entrees. I love the nachos which HUGE and a great sharing item. I dont know if they still do it, but they use to offer the choice of shredded cheese or a cheese sauce. I find the cheese sauce makes the chips soggy and prefer the shredded cheese.
Recently I ordered a Bleu Boy (Bleu Cheeseburger) and it was outstanding. Any place that allows me to order a burger MED RARE and actually does it right, I auto love!!! The burger was prepared perfect and had both crumbled bleu cheese & bleu cheese dressing in addition to a slice of swiss cheese. Also, Rusty's has joined the tater tot revolution and that makes me smile with glee.
The only bad meal I have ever had here was years back when I ordered the Bistro Medallions. I found the medallions a bit stringy & chewy and the mushroom cabernet sauce was not very good.
All in all, Rusty's is a great sports bar. Good food & great service goes a long way!!!
I had a Southwest Chicken Melt; melty cheese, peppers, and chicken between 2 pieces of Texas Toast. The food was not great but not bad. I did, however, really like that I could get tater tots on the side (made me reminiscent of my school cafeteria lunches, which I'm not entirely sure is a good or bad thing). The service and people were very friendly, and if you bring kids they will surely love the mini-TVs that are at each booth.
They have a family dining area and a bar area (I think). I'd say a bit on the pricey side for what you get, but no complaints overall.
We come here with my parents, who are west-siders. As the three stars say, I'm a-ok with Rusty's. The service is friendly, accommodating, and pretty fast. I'm not a huge fan of the booth TVs, but I'm probably the odd man out on that one.
I find the food fresh and well prepared. I've had the salmon, a couple sandwiches, and fish and chips, but have seen a variety of the other items - never seen anyone disappointed by what they ordered. I had the fish and chips most recently - the fish was white and fluffy and the "chips" were almost like a battered fry? Not sure exactly, but they were tasty - especially doused in the malt vinegar.
I don't think my husband and I would come here by ourselves, but it's a good family spot, for sure.
We got settled in to our rental casita out on the west side and wanted a quick bite that evening. Â The nearest thing was Rusty's, so we thought maybe we give it a try. Â We were pleasantly surprised by their quasi-Mexican offerings. Â I had the chimi and it was really good (big too). Â My wife was delighted with the fajitas - made with shredded beef and bacon.
We had enough left over to make a great lunch the next day.
I never really thought I would find myself writing a four star review about the food at Rusty's...but hey this was a pleasant surprise! Sad to say I lived on the west side of town for about three years collectively and never gave Rusty's a try. I mean it's a sports bar so not exactly somewhere you'd want to take a friend or date for some eats!
Well this past weekend, after leaving an event near that side of town, a friend suggested that we head over to Rusty's for some grub. I figured...why not? Give it a try. I'm glad I did.
I took my friend's suggestion and ordered the Bistro Medallions. They were tender as promised by the menu and  topped with a DELICIOUS mushroom cabernet sauce. They were SO YUMMY! The side of rice and vegetables were quite tasty as well. Not at all what I expected from a sports bar!
Our food came out quick but the service was ehhh. We arrived around 9pm right as they were setting up for their "club night" so tables were being cleared all around us and we were the only table left on the floor at the time we left. Kind of weird, but our fault for arriving so late I suppose.
All in all, I would go back with friends. Still not somewhere I'd take a first date or a friend looking for a culinary adventure!
Despite the Lilliputian pool tables upstairs in the rather bizarre gaming loft and the mediocre bar fare, I used to like this place. Sadly, on this side of town the choices are limited and Sam's next door is even worse. Now not only is the food barely edible, but the portions are so scant that we left hungrier than when we came in. My friend the hungry firefighter ordered fish and chips, and had to ask the waiter where the second piece was. It was there all right, hiding under the first piece even though the heavily battered little piece on top was so small this seemed like an impossibility. We also ordered mushrooms and zukes for $7 and when the basket arrived it contained maybe a quarter of a zucchini and 7 or 8 tiny mushrooms, several already soaked in the ranch side which had tipped over and slimy inside. Instead of refilling our teas, the server would pick them up and return. The servers are friendly but inattentive. West Grant is already cursed with too much industrial zoning, and Rusty's just adds insult to injury
Review Source:Rusty's is my visit once a year and promise never to return Restaurant. Â It never fails! Â
I used to love Rusty's. Â Living near Grant & Silverbell, I would visit at least 2/3 times a week for drinks and bar food. Â I would get prompt service by a good looking waitress and be happy.
I go this past Saturday and end up walking out after being ignored for 11 minutes.
I have a $10 Groupon, so I try again this past Monday. Â Food was so, so. Â I give my unhappy waitress the Groupon and she upset stating that I have to spend a minimum of $20. Â This is not a term of the Groupon Certificate. Â
Long story short, I end up purchasing an additional meal to go, just to use my Groupon. Â Maybe I will give Rusty's another shot in 2012?
"Bar and Grille" is never the promise of good food and it would never be a draw for me. However, our youngest sold $20 Booster Cards for the Marana High Baseball Team. We ended up buying 9 of the 15 he had to sell. There were some nice discounts for Rusty's and 11 other businesses. Â I recall a friend raving about Rusty's years ago when it first opened, but I never went. I also recall that Rusty, the founder, passed away in his 50's shortly after opening the place. Time had finally come to learn more. And to use our pricey discounts!
I was relieved to find a well appointed and comfortable dining area well segregated from the bar, especially after seeing some of the motley peeps we did go into the bar. (We had two children with us.) It was self service seating. There was no greeter and a "Seat Yourself" sign, which was a bit weird, but not so weird as to scare us away.
TVs everywhere! On all the walls and even at each table. Odd, but not scary. Hey, they have an On Off Button so how bad could it be? Then the staff arrived. Were they going to be unfriendly as the sign perhaps suggested? Not! Friendly and  humorous actually. Even joked with our kids.  An even bigger surprise was the menu. It wasn't bar food! Lots of options and some tough ones to choose from because you can only eat so much.
We ordered both types of tacos (chicken and beef), a burger, and grilled salmon with a lemon caper sauce. Wow! All of it was great; we all want to eat there again. Not only to enjoy again what we did, but to find what other treasures that Rusty may have left for us to discover.
Went in and walked out. No one greeted us ~ sign said 'Seat yourself' ~ no clean tables to sit at ~ used the restroom ~ not clean ... paper towels all over ~ went back out to wait for a table ~ noticed how dusty everything was ~ thought 'life's too short to eat at a place like this' ~ walked out ~ no one noticed. :(
Review Source:It's been years since I first stepped into Rusty's and, over those years, I've been several times and, each time, saying that it would be my last. I've been anticipating this place closing down for years, because this area could use a decent bar/restaurant, but have been long disappointed.
Rusty's is really two places: the bar and the restaurant. The bar gets crowded and rowdy, especially in the early evenings and on weekend nights. The parking lot is tiny and, particularly during those times, don't even bother with the main lot and just park down the street a little bit and walk. That is, if you really want to come.
My first experience was with that bar, which is a two-story loft style structure, features a pretty mediocre draft beer list, no happy hour (at least, not that I know of) and, probably because of the high ceiling is LOUD when there are a lot of people in there. The bar, honestly, is not that bad, but this would probably be my 20th or 25th choice of a place in town to spend an evening drinking with friends.
The restaurant is really what sucks here. My first time inside, I was shocked with how many TVs there are in here. I mean, holy crap, how many do you need? Not only are they pretty much in every, available space, each table has its OWN INDIVIDUAL TV. I guess if you like that, then this is your place, but I think they would do better with keeping a couple of table TV-free (if possible).
The food definitely sucks. Lots of frozen and Sysco stuff with a really generic, uninteresting menu. It's not expensive, but definitely not particularly cheap either.
I've always had terrible service here, but maybe that's just luck of the draw. I came here years ago as my good-bye lunch from my employer at the time (not my choice) and can recall being annoyed that it took almost an hour for our food to come out, even though there was really nothing complex about it. And, yeah, it was terrible when it came out.
The next time I went there was a couple of years later (like I said, I really dislike this place) as part of a group of 6 or 7 (again, not my choice). The waitress was unattentive until she randomly came up to us, crying, saying that she had to leave because so-and-so had been in a car wreck or something. Weird, but okay... But the replacement waiter never showed up. The food took well over an hour and we could never get more drinks. This may have been because of the mandatory gratuity. I didn't stick around to hear the ensuing argument though.
I came back a year or so later, with a group again, and had a similarly bad service experience when cordoned off in the back room. We were put there and then forgotten about. The food, again, took a ridiculous amount of time, and I was just reminded of why I hated the place.
The most recent time I came here, there was a UFC fight going on. The first thing that came back to me when I walked in, that I had forgotten about, was the douchebag bouncer. Sure, it's often just comes with the territory, but they're just such jerks here. Why is it necessary? I don't know. It's not like they get a bunch of frat boys in here.
So, anyway, the bar had a $5 cover for the UFC, but the dining room was free. In a group again, we were again sent to the back room where no less than three TVs were BLARING the UFC fight. We were jammed in there with two other parties, so there was no just turning the TVs off. If you really like the whole sweaty men dry humping each other, that's cool, but it's just not for me, nor was it of interest to anyone in the group. Again, the food was slow (although not as slow), but the service was a bit better, and they actually had an interesting beer on tap. The waiter also gave us some free nachos, which were pretty bad, and were the only food that I ate for the night. I got out after one beer and now am, again, vowing never to return.
I'd like to point out that there is a Famous Sam's location maybe a block away, on Silverbell. I'm not exactly big into Famous Sam's but, as far as food, atmosphere, bar selection and service go, they've got way more over this place, which is the main reason why I've always been confounded as to why Rusty's remains open. I'm okay with sports bars, but this place just sucks.
I live nearby, so I end up here often. I don't like loud music, so I try not to go when the dj's there, that's not my scene. We usually sit in the bar, and the service is inevitably slow. The food's ok, it's fried bar food for the most part. There's usually a decent drink special, especially on beer. Happy hour is a good deal, get your order in before it's over. So even though Rusty's is just ok, it's the only decent bar west of I-10 without going far north, and for it's location only, I'll be a return customer.
Review Source:This place is close to my employment and have eaten here often. Â The food is always great. Â I love the atmosphere, perfect place to go to see any game, especially since there are small LCD TV's in the booths. Â If you are not into the hectic bar atmosphere, there is a nice quiet dining area in the back with plenty of seating ( with LCD's in the booths). Â The service is fast and friendly about 80-90 percent of the time. Â Perfect place for a beer and a meal.
Review Source:My favorite sports bar in town. Â Hands down.
It's never clubby (even when it gets crowded). Â I *hate* clubby meatmarkety sports bars. Â They should be about, well, the sports... and beer. Â With multiple large screens, including small ones at each booth, Rusty's keeps it sports-centric. Â
There's a 2nd floor with pool tables and dart boards... I think I've only been up there twice, but I'm glad its there because the loft story gives the main floor high ceilings resulting in a more open feel. Â (That open feel isn't as important now as it was when smoking was still allowed in bars in Arizona.)
Friendly patrons and wait staff. Â I've never felt uncomfortable coming with a big group for happy hour or alone to watch a fight. Â Actually, I think it's the only bar in town I'm ok with going to by myself.
Go for happy hour... there's 2! Â I almost always get the hot wings... enough sauce to make it tasty and spicy, but not too much to make the wings lose their crispyness. Â Yums.
