Sometimes when I re-read one of my negative reviews, I think to myself, "wait a second... am I planning on ever coming back here?"

Despite the fact that Ryan's is not my favorite bar by any stretch of the imagination, forces inevitably conspire in the universe that bring me back here. Unlike other dive bars I like, where a knife fight or an ass-kicking is just one glance of the stink-eye away, something's just off here.

Maybe it's an East Brunswick versus Spotswood thing that dates back to high school rivalries. Preps versus ginkers versus soccer jocks. Whatever it is, I always sense some tension in this bar on crowded weekend nights. (Yes, I'm aware Ryan's is not technically in Spotswood, but trust me, Spotswood is in the house here, and no one under 75 actually lives in Monroe Township.) Or maybe there's just something about me that people don't like and I can just sense it. It certainly wouldn't be the first time.

Of course, I'm a big guy, and rarely do I find myself the first choice of aggression in an establishment like this. Perhaps I'm secretly disappointed by that. Maybe deep down I just want to summon my inner Patrick Swayze and act out scenes from Roadhouse.

The food is not very good here in my opinion. I love great Irish pubs, as they typically have great Irish fare. This one neither has great Irish fare, nor does it feel particularly Irish. A few strategically placed shamrocks does not an Irish Pub make.

Service is mostly friendly, though. There was actually a decent band last night. And two beers and a Diet Coke cost $7. So there's that.

Food is awesome!!!  Never had anything I didn't like.  Drinks are fairly priced.  Bathrooms are clean.  The crowd gets a little douchey on Friday nights, but for the most part, people are pretty nice.  Bartenders are friendly, too!

This is without a doubt a neighborhood bar.  They serve food and booze.  You can buy beer to take home, too.  I personally do not fit in with the crowd in this bar, but at the same time, I have nothing bad to say about this place.

Stopped for a quick bite to eat. Not pleased. Place dirty, restrooms were filthy. Bartenders couldn't be bothered taking order. To busy talking to friends. Asked to speak to manager and apparently (Gina) was to busy doing nothing. Time to hire another manager and get bartenders who care!

Run of the mill local pub.   It's a stretch to call it a "sports bar."  I don't care for the fries they serve with the sandwiches.  I've been there twice and the female bartenders sported a disturbing amount of ink.  On the plus side, the men's room is very clean and modern.

This place has some amazing fish and chips!  Probably some of the best I ever had.  Local dive with a lot of personality and all your standard brews on tap.  On certain days they do dollar mugs on certain beers which I should of took advantage of.  I opted out for Guinness on tap and it was really good and poured correctly.

Everything on the menu looks pretty good.  I was watching what other people ordered and all the grub seemed to be on point.  Great place to eat some greasy bar food, watch sports, and kick back with a cold one.

The only downfall this place has is the bartender.  She always has this surprised and frustrated look on her face that will make you feel uncomfortable.  I'm not sure if that's just her expression, or if she hates her job.  If you go on a busy day be prepared to wait for your drinks.  They also have a jukebox that works.

If your in town, check it out.

decent pub that we swung by after the BBQ place. the outside looks a little beat, but the inside looks to be fairly new so far as renovations.

fairly standard sports bar taps: Bud, Miller, Coors, Guinness, etc. a Guinness is five bucks. they have a house tap (I think it was called Ryan's Ale) which is made for them by Leinenkugel. decent beer, I wasn't a huge fan of it, but it was also $3.50.

my cousin Joe ordered a Crown Royal on the rocks and he was convinced it wasn't Crown Royal. but he drank it anyway. it set him back eight bucks.

digital jukebox, food, live bands and karaoke. seems like a legit little pub to hang out at if you're in the area. also, we smelled popcorn.

The restaurant/pub states:  "Our goal is to re-create the rich traditions of the great pubs of Ireland here in America.  We present and authentic pub house experience to our guests based on the craic of Ireland, a fun, friendly and exuberant atmosphere."

Pretty cool local hangout.  Renovated from an old dumpy bar that used to be on the premises.  Dining room separate from the bar and has a family atmosphere.  Both bar and dining room have flat screen tvs showing games.  Offers a good selection of appetizers, entrees and burgers.  Bar pie too. Has different specials and fun events every night of the week.  Karaoke and bands certain nights of the week as well.
